Lygon Arms Hotel in Cotswold

1 glass of wine, 1 pint, 2 lemonades and a trio of crisps.....£28!!! I live in the village so I'm used to the over inflated sense of superiority associated with the 'Beige Village' set of the area but this is ridiculous. It's not even that nice of a bar (you have to pee in a freezing outhouse), grubby tables and the staff were very course and cold. They have perfected not caring about customers.. Tried to contact the business to get verification that there hadn't been a mistake with the bill; never received the courtesy of a response. Obviously. When all the old folks with more money than sense dissappear this place will be lost.

A friendly gem in Chipping Campden. I have just stayed at the Lygon Arms with my best mate for her birthday. What a lovely place, run by wonderful, friendly women who clearly know what they’re doing. There was a chap there too, but the women stole the show! We stayed in one of the Courtyard rooms. First impression-it smelled good! Clean, fresh, obviously looked after. Very comfortable and attractive room. They had remembered that we had asked for twin beds. Very generous number of towels, fresh each day. Complimentary (decent) chocolate, and cheese biscuits, plus plenty of tea and coffee, and water in the large fridge. Beautifully clean bathroom, loads of room, I really can’t fault it. A cliche, but nothing was too much trouble. We would always stay here if/when we come back to the Cotswolds. Special mention too for the incredible breakfasts. Very high quality fresh fruits and juices, yogurts etc, plus well-cooked breakfasts of all varieties. We had dinner here one night too. Quite frankly, one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten. We really appreciated the friendly atmosphere and the care taken. Very helpful with local information too. Thanks to all!

We were staying locally on holiday and were recommended to the Lygon Arms in Chipping Campden. We enjoyed a fabulous family meal where we all thought the food delicious and very generous portions. The ladies serving that night were so friendly and welcoming and nothing too much bother. In fact we enjoyed our meal so much we returned for a second visit - have to say the steak and ale pie was amazing!

What a great place for Sunday roast! Excellent Yorkshire pudding roast beef, potatoes and seven other vegetables. The carrots were perfectly roasted. The roasted potatoes were incredible. The broccoli was exactly right. It brought back find memories of Sunday family meals at my grandmother's house. The atmosphere was excellent and the service couldn't have been better. We hadn't planned on being in Chipping Camden, but we had a blowout. We took rooms here and couldn't have been more pleased with the rooms and the dinner.

What a cozy, warm and welcoming place for a delicious meal! We stopped in on a rainy, windy Monday evening and Jo greeted us warmly and treated us like family the rest of the evening. What a lovely experience. We started with a delicious creamy vegetable soup that was served with warm homemade bread. One of us ordered the most amazing lamb shank that came with four incredible side dishes…vegetables, creamy cheesy cauliflower, salad, red cabbage. The sides alone were a meal! And I had the Ploughman’s lunch…another incredible dish, filled with vegetables, four kinds of cheese, breads, chutneys and on and on. The lamb was cooked to perfection and and the Ploughman’s was presented beautifully. And the local ale was wonderful and the wine list plentiful. Between the wonderful service and the incredible meals, Chipping Campden has a real gem here!

We had a lovely evening meal here recently - we both ordered the steak, ale and Stilton pie and thought it absolutely delicious! There weren’t many other diners that evening (Tuesday) but everyone was very friendly and the waitress was very chatty and knowledgeable. We would definitely come again!

The Hotel has charm and character, it was warm and cosy and inviting, with beautiful spa facilities. It’s right in the heart of the village on the high street. We had received the night in this wonderful hotel as a Christmas gift from our daughter and what a pleasurable experience it was. The restaurant was fabulous, and both my husband thought it was one of our favourite meals to date .

A few of my friends went down for an evening drink, immediately after being unable to open the door we were greeted with sarcasm and blatant rudeness by Jo. With two designated drivers with us we were harassed with questions of purchasing drinks when over half of our group was buying drinks. The couple of us who were not planning on drinking since having drinks previously in the night were spoken about rudely for not purchasing drinks. We left very quickly after recieving nothing but unwelcoming behaviour and being shunned for refusing our designated drivers to drink. Would not recommend at all.

service was extremely rude and horrible i have never experienced a business ran so poorly as someone who has worked in hospitality myself i would have never treated my coustmers in such a terrible manor it is appalling and disappointing will not be coming again, how hard is it to cook chips?

Ignore the review from Zoe S below this place is fabulous! The food and all the waitresses here are absolutely superb- some people are not happy unless they are repeatedly complaining and causing trouble! The food and service here is brilliant, generous portions and all freshly cooked - if there are any dietary requirements or special requests I am sure that they would accommodate you as the food is cooked to order. The staff are wonderful and work incredibly hard to ensure your visit is special. I ordered the Stilton mushrooms whilst my husband had homemade soup both were excellent, for mains we ordered the salmon fillet and gammon which were all cooked to perfection. I cannot praise the Lygon or their staff highly enough it is outstanding, I never hesitate to recommend this place to others because I know whatever they order will be perfect! We went for dinner last night. The waitress overheard my friend saying she couldn’t eat mushrooms. My friend ordered the chicken curry, because it was a safe bet and mushrooms aren’t usually in a curry. (Who puts mushrooms in a curry?!) The chicken curry had mushrooms in it! The waitress admitted she’d over heard my friend saying she couldn’t eat mushrooms but instead of apologising and fixing the issue, she went on to blame her for ordering the curry! It was ridiculous. Up until that point the staff had been quite friendly, but after that we were practically thrown our food. We had spent £180 up until point but were so horrified at the awful service by this one waitress (not the blonde one) we paid up and left. Whilst the other food was good we definitely wouldn’t go back. There are far nicer places to eat, like the 8 bells pub just up the road.

I stayed here with a friend for two nights prior to our walking trip of the Cotswold area. We both loved it! The staff made us feel welcome immediately, and we settled into the beautiful garden area for a delicious lunch. Just what we needed to ease our jet lag. The breakfasts were sooo good, as was dinner. I had a salmon dish that came with 5 different mini-containers of vegetables! While the decor of the rooms may be a little dated, you will feel like you are part of the family.

Great menu choice and specials really enjoyed the steak and kidney pie with that home cooked quality. Friendly and welcoming pub for us and especially our dog Charlie.

Three women, college friends for forty years, closed our Cotwold adventures with dinner here. We were warmly received and happily sated by the range and quality of the food and drink we were served. Highly recommend!

I have been trying to contact the hotel to make reservations, but this is proving very, very difficult. Phone calls, emails and messages via their web site are ignored. To me this indicates that, if I do get there, I am likely to be disappointed. I think I will look elsewhere.

Seriously - Answer the phone!! We stayed at your hotel last year (September) and was a very pleasant experience, so much so we wanted to stay again. As you can't book on booking.com I tried to ring - multiple times. Why do you never answer the phone? The amount of business you must be losing must be incredible. I left two voice mails - no reply. I sent to emails via your website - No reply. So I've given up!! Good luck to all those also trying to ring!

Really BAD attitude of staff. We walked in and my friend wanted a light bite to eat, I only wanted a coffee. It was as if we had asked the lady behind the bar for something outrageous. She gave us a filthy look and practically threw my coffee at me. We were sat in the bar and she was perfectly friendly to other people. It was awful- avoid!!

Well let me tell you. It’s the place to eat. Steak and ale pie fantastic. Roast lamb the best and roast chicken dinner ti die for. Dorothy the owner was great. She couldn’t do enough for us.

If there is ONE place you want to visit while in Chipping Campden, this is it! The food is absolutely delicious - honestly the best food we had during our 2 weeks in England. Just don’t make the same mistake we did: Make a reservation if you want to enjoy a Sunday roast at this pub. We did not, and I’ll probably spend the rest of my life dreaming about just how good their Sunday roast must be. Friendly staff, excellent food and charming atmosphere.

Stopped off in Chipping Camden for an hour whilst visiting the cotswolds. Two very welcoming beers,one being a real ale which is served directly from the barrel in the cellar and was of excellent quality. All served by chatty friendly bar staff.

It was an OMG experience! 10/10 for their Homemade Steak, Stilton and ale pie. (Served with mash and peas). The setting is also pretty special- dates back to the late 1600’s. Tastefully restored. Lovely atmosphere.❤️

Reservamos en el último minuto un domingo por la tarde, e hicieron un gran esfuerzo para acomodarnos a pesar de estar muy ocupados. La señora de la tierra y el resto del personal fueron muy amables y el lugar tenía mucho encanto y carácter. ¡Teníamos rosbif y cerdo asado y estaba delicioso! Las porciones eran enormes, un plato lleno de carne, papas y chirivías y luego muchas verduras deliciosas al lado. Definitivamente lo recomendaría si busca una deliciosa cena asada estilo cocina casera en un ambiente acogedor.

Excelente estadía en Lygon Arms. Desde el momento en que entramos, el saludo en la recepción fue fantástico, todo gracias a Jo, ella nos hizo sentir muy bienvenidos y pudimos decir lo mucho que valoran a los clientes de inmediato y ¡nada demasiado para ellos! Nos alojamos en la habitación Owl y era absolutamente encantador, muy limpio y tenía todo lo que necesitábamos para nuestra corta estancia. El desayuno también era delicioso y estaba incluido en el precio. ¡Recomendaría mucho que valga la pena cada centavo de principio a fin!

Lovely old pub. Came for evening meal with family and dog. Great choice of food on the menu. Huge portions all round! And the food was fab, especially the faggots. Would Highly recommend a visit here.

A lovely building full of charm. The ground floor consists of many interconnecting rooms with cosy places to have bar snack for lunch.

My husband and i decided to pop over to the lygon arms for Sunday lunch, and i have to say its the nicest we have ever had! we both had the beef and was asked how we liked it! the cauliflower cheese was wonderful and very tasty.Not forgetting the wonderful staff. thank you ladies keep doing what obviously your doing right!we will return very soon :)Bev & Alanxxx

A very popular place, we managed to find a small table tucked away in a corner.The bar was busy but there seemed to be only two staff so service was a little slow but the local ale eased the wait for the food.We only wanted a sandwich, ordered the thick bread and what came was huge and included a small side salad. Given more time we could have settled in for a lot longer. Definitely would return to sample more local beer, good food and ambience.

Though it is a typical tourist place for people visiting a old cotswolds inn, is that such a bad thing?.the food is very average and the service is very friendly. Very dog friendly.

We stayed three nights (suite). Room was large and well appointed. Excellent Inn with lots of charm, alongside modern amenities. Enjoyed fitness center, spa and hotel restaurant. Only negative was breakfast—not same standard as room and other services.

Dropped in by chance for a beer on a Sunday afternoon and found a spare table in the bar and decided to have lunchHow fantastic it was from the welcome to the service and being doggy friendly was a real bonusHowever the food was incredible we had the roast beef and also the gammon and both were utterly superb I think the roast beef was probably the best roast that I have ever had and when it came out accompanied by all the bowls of vegetables it was a really generous portion but the beef itself was plentiful and really thick cut but also very tender and utterly fantastic The Gammon was also superb - would recommend wholeheartedly

We went to a quiz night event in the back room of Lygon. There is also a bowling alley. Bar rather slow but a good hearty meal was produced (ordered in advance)

Came here for lunch and much enjoyed the hearty (gigantic!) portions, and friendly service. Didn't have space for dessert but it looked great on the neighbour's table :-) so will certainly be back for that.

We visited this pub based on a recommendation from our host and we were not disappointed. We were made to feel very welcome and loved how warm and cosy the restaurant was. We all thoroughly enjoyed our steak pies and would highly recommend them.

Optamos por ir aquí en base a las revisiones de TA y debo decir que no cumplió con el estándar que esperaba para las críticas decentes de TA. El servicio fue inferior. Para ser justos, solo dos mujeres estaban trabajando, por lo que estaban estiradas, pero no estaba abarrotada. La comida era completamente inferior a la del pub y ninguno de nosotros estaba satisfecho con nuestras comidas, que incluían: cordero, pescado y papas fritas, un pastel de carne y dos aperitivos para la 4ª cena. We decided to try a home cooked food type pub whilst visiting Chipping Campden for a few days and the Lygon seemed a good choice.

Nice surroundings but am unable to rate food as even though we asked at reception and were told someone would come from the bar with menus nobody did. Not to be defeated we went to the bar where the gentlemen half heartedly gave us menus and said someone would come to take our orders - after 10 minutes nobody came so we left and found a lovely tea room in the village.

After travelling down from Yorkshire to the Cotswolds ,we called in the Luton Arms for a late lunch. We were warmly welcomed by a young lady and seated in a nice corner seating area. I had a pint of the local IPA , which was very nice and my wife had water. For food , my wife had the scampi ,salad and chips and I had the steak , stilton and ale pie with chips and vegetables. Both were delicious and well presented. It's a nice relaxed atmosphere in the Luton Arms and nothing's too much trouble. We'll done

Had a weekend at the Lygon arms with our whole family, took over the private dining room and we were treated so well. Lovely staff and lovely food, honestly could not do enough for us. Warm friendly bar area really nice to relax in and they make the best G&T;'s!

Great comfortable pub with locals stopping by for a beer. Wait staff was excellent and the food was very good. I had the steak which came with amazing vegetables, potatoes, peas and mushrooms. I ended up taking the steak home for our dinner the next evening. Good choices of wine, beer and whiskey. Definitely recommended.

We’ve stayed here a few times now and we have noticed a deterioration in service. On reading other reviews regarding staff being at times rude this is what we have also found.

I’ve lived near Broadway all my life and have never been to The Lygon Arms, I’d always considered it a bit too fancy. My partner and I decided we’d go for our 10th anniversary, along with our dog. We arrived and, eventually, we caught the attention if one of the 4 or so staff on hand at the bar. They didn’t ask for our name, which was a shame as on the phone they had asked if it was for a special occasion, naively we were expecting a little something on arrival as it was a big anniversary for us. I say naively, but why would you ask if this wasn’t the case? So, we were seated... and we waited... and waited, with absolutely no attention from the staff, no drinks and no menus. At this point, I just know this is going to be hugely disappointing meal and I’m regretting everything. Eventually, we were seen to my hugely incompetent young lady who seemed so nervous, didn’t know the answers to our questions, almost tipped a drink on us... she kept telling us she was having a bad day and I felt for her, I did, but it made us feel completely on edge. Anyway, I ordered the roasted cauliflower. It came. I could of cried. I was served a barely (seriously, it was almost raw) cooked slice of cauliflower with a bit of broccoli. No sauce, no seasoning (or I just couldn’t taste it), just a bit of almond faff on the tiniest section of the cauliflower, which did give it a nice taste, there just was hardly any of it. I don’t worry about the cost of good food, but at £17 for a fraction of a cauliflower, with seemingly little-to-no preparation, I was gutted. Thank god I ordered a side of chips, which were lovely! The vegan pudding was really nice too, I had the mango and coconut cheesecake. A month on and I’m still gutted that was my 10th anniversary meal and I’ll always regret my decision to choose the Lygon Arms for such a special occasion. On a plus, there was a member of staff, a gentleman, who fussed our dog to within an inch of her life, showering her with treats (to the point where I didn’t need to feed her that night!) so that was really lovely!

Fantastic place in the most beautiful location with the best Courtyard for outdoor eating and gardens that are beautiful to walk through whilst the kids discover them. Highly Recommend this place.

This place has lots of character and a convenient location. The service was great as well. But the food was on another level. Maybe the best meal I have ever had in England. I could not recommend it more highly on a visit to Chipping Campden.

On a sightseeing trip to Chipping Camden my friend and I were hungry and spotted the cafe associated with this hotel. Upon entering we were given a friendly greeting along with the menus and subsequently had an untrusted and very delicious lunch in a lovely little cafe before we were on our way. The prices were quite reasonable, the establishment was cute & quiet, and there were a large variety of options from which to choose. Delightful in all respects ...

Huge portions and a delicious roast meal with Pimm's. Excellent service and classic English food including Yorkshire Puddings and delicious cheese plate.

We enjoyed our meal here in this warm, inviting space. Good service, tasty meals, including gluten free options. After finding no openings our first night, we reserved for the second night.

I’m a solo traveler from another country and felt like I was an outsider here. The locals were getting the 5 star treatment and I was “being serviced”. Normally don’t comment on things like this. Good beer and food was okay.

Me quedé esperando unos 5 minutos en su heladería. Finalmente, se le preguntó al personal de un pub que se apresuró a servir el helado de lujo llamado "Bennett". El lugar parecía poco higiénico y los helados en su mayoría parecían sobras (incluso para el día ocupado era con los juegos). Pregunté si podría probar si no servir una cucharada de helado Honey Comb. No hubo respuesta o disculpa (igual que cuando fui y la saqué del bar). Me sirvieron una cucharada de 2. 50 - sin duda, la cucharada más pequeña que he visto (incluso en comparación con una primicia para niños) y ha tenido un sabor decepcionante. Tenía un malestar estomacal - no es sorprendente. Nunca más.

Visitamos como el punto medio de una caminata dominical de 8 millas. Reservamos una mesa que me alegro, ya que estaba llena (en su mayoría con clientes que no tenían reservaciones) y muchos otros fueron rechazados.

Wir waren hier im Pub. Traditionell, serviert auch Essen. Hier gibt es eine gute Auswahl lokaler Ales und Lager, die Auswahl an Weinen ist auch gut. Hier brennt an kalten Abenden ein Feuer. Probiert mal das lokale Shagweaver Bier, schmeckt ganz gut.

What a treat - mid-week out got dinner in Chipping Campden & we managed to secure a table in the Lygon Arms it was busy it was school holidays but what struck me as a Great sign was that there appeared to be a huge amount of regulars there too known by name to the waiting staff.

We greatly enjoyed our Saturday lunch at this friendly independent hostelry in the beautiful town of Chipping Campden. The atmosphere was busy and 'fun' and the food bore all the signs of highly competent home cooking. Good selection of real ales and wines as well. The only downside was that we had to wait a while for service but this was no doubt due to the understandable popularity of the place - everything was worth waiting for! Prices are reasonable, much more so than food at the more illustrious namesake hotel/restaurant in nearby Broadway. So, if you book, as I hope you will, please remember to call the Lygon Arms at Chipping Campden and not Broadway!

Nice food, very friendly (I think the owner) and good service! Very enjoyable evening. Gluten free dessert was very tasty!

We'd eaten here a few times a couple of years ago while staying in nearby. Blockley & been particularly impressed by thereby generous portions of high quality local asparagus. Too early for that unfortunately but we had a good meal - starters of scallops followed by fish & chips for one & red onion & goats cheese tart with salad & sweet potato chips. Portions are generous - a good appetite needed to do justice to the food.

We didn't eat here but did see the generously portioned food.Lots of gins to choose from.It is small,friendly and a cost pub.Preferred this one to any other in Chipping Camden

Last night of our trip so we looked at all the menus outside of the eateries, this place seemed to have a wide variety so in we went. Loverly building inside and a very friendly landlady welcomed us, very soon my wife and I were both laughing. We both ordered a starter and main, all the food was excellent. Would recommend if you are in the area.
