Wonderful aged steaks impeccably served. Old style panelled dining room hidden from the crowded bars of the Ned Hotel. Definitely an “in” place with live jazz on a central stage. We tried the sharing tomahawk while the other guest had a fillet. Faultless. A carefully decanted Amarone Tommasi to accompany it. As good as it gets.

Thank you Lutyens for another excellent lunch. My sister who joined me as my guest had a broken foot and the manager and staff were most accommodating in finding a box to stand it on so it was raised. The Dover sole is always very good but as a beer drinker could they stock Birra Moretti as well as Peroni as the former is much nicer and it's what the Italians drink!

We came for a celebration lunch, and were treated regally by all the staff we met. While our table was being prepared we enjoyed champagne and water in the wine bar, and they identified immediately that one of our party was not drinking alcohol, discreetly approached, and his soft drink of preference was there as if by magic. At table we were fussed over by the waiting staff and sommelier, and all agreed that the food was fresh and beautifully cooked. The wines, though, were nothing short of superb. This restaurant obviously caters mainly for City workers, and we could see that these guests were being served expeditiously. Our party, though, lingered long, and the staff of Lutyen's were more than happy to serve at our chosen pace.

I had been to the restaurant before with a group booking in a private room. On that occasion my request for a vegetarian option was well received and dealt with professionally. On this occasion where I had just booked a table in the main restaurant I was rather disappointed that the daily business lunch menu did not include a vegetarian option. The lady who served referred me back to the main menu where there was just one vegetarian dish, the risotto. However, I'm not a fan of Risotto, it seems to be the only main meal vegetarian option some restaurants offer and it is often over salted.

I can't say why this restaurant wasn't busy, especially with 50% off the food prices, but there being relatively few other diners didn't detract from the experience. This is an expensive city restaurant which is empty at night. The front of house staff were professional and it’s slick. The waiting staff were clearly bored at the end of a long day and surly. I deducted the service charge as a result. The food was mediocre. They need to decide to either close at night or up their game as it’s not satisfactory. Unless you are a big expense account don’t even think of going here. It’s not value for money by any measure. We have used it for business dinners for five years now, but this was the last. I don’t pay over the top to have stroppy French waiting staff sneer at my guests, leave plates and bottles uncleared. Not pleasant.

Salmon starter and pork main were excellent, no doubt but required extra vegetables though. Prices a little on the high side but that's the norm throughout Europe and this place is certainly a step up from a usual French bistro. Wine list is good and well represented and offers different measures. I was entertained to lunch here, and can only describe the occasion as "outstanding".I am having to use a walking aid, at the moment; and without my asking, a cushion for my back was provided for my already-comfortable chair. The welcome was genuinely warm and the service was excellent. We were not rushed in any way, and our lunch lasted or over three hours. The butternut squash and parmesan soup, dressed with cream, was pure poetry, and my pork (Gloucester Old Spot [always ask!]) was cooked to perfection. Personally, with pork like that or Middle White, for example, I always like to be given the fat, as that is where the true flavour lies, but it was all cut off, no doubt in deference to the fashionable (and incorrect) view that all fat is bad. I offer this as an observation, and not as a criticism in any way.I closed with a blueberry dessert which was excellent.I would have liked to propose a "Santé du Chef et du Service" because not only was the food excellent, but its presentation would have justified photographsI would rarely describe an establishment as "outstanding" - but Lutyens certainly earns that accolade.

I had breakfast here with 3 others at 8.30am on July 5th 2017. Upon arriving we were impressed and were seated promptly. A waiter took our coffee order and we waited for our clients to arrive. When the first client arrived, the waiter took her coffee order. 5 minutes later, he bought our coffees to the table but not hers. 5 minutes later, our other client arrived and the same waiter took her coffee order so I said "Excuse me Sir but we ordered a flat white for my friend here..." to which he snapped "It is coming!" Not an impressive start. We all ordered our food once our coffees had arrived but 2 of the orders were wrong. I ordered poached eggs on brown, my colleague ordered scrambled eggs on white. He ended up getting scrambled eggs on brown (one slice of bread) and I got scrambled eggs on white (2 slices). I told them not to worry and we just swapped things around to suit ourselves. The waiter brought a round of white toast to the tableas an extra as if to apologise. The food itself was very good but during the meal, not once were we asked if we wanted another coffee or more drinks, nor were we asked if the food was ok. I just don't think that is good enough in an average eaterie, let alone a supposed fine dining establishment. The restaurant itself is 5*. The food is 4*. Service was 1* so I am giving 3* overall.

I booked via OpenTable which advertised a special menu or 50% off food. On Fridays, we were told, the restaurant always offers 50% off the food in the evening - which meant we saved £111.Four of us had foie gras (normally £12) and gravlax (normally £13.50) to start. The foie was more a chicken liver pate but it was heavily smooth and tasted divine. The plate could have done with a little greenery to add to the attractiveness of the dish. For our main courses, we had pork (normally £27), lamb (normally £28) and turbot (normally £42). Each came with some vegetables but one of us ordered an extra portion of broccoli (normally £5). My pork was very tender and looked a picture on the plate. It came with some potatoes. My only quibble was it was not very hot. To end, we had a cheese selection (normally £12) which you could smell as soon as the lid was lifted off the trolley - wonderful! And a raspberry sorbet (normally £6). Two perfect bottles of wine: Montepulciano (£35) and Jurancon (£38). Four cover charges at £1.50 each presumably paid for the bread and butter provided throughout. The service was very attentive, but not fussy. The dining room is very attractive and, importantly, one could hear everything those in our party was saying to each other without straining over any music. The total bill, with service, came to £226.88. All in all, it was a relaxing evening and a gastronomic feast!

The muffins were firm, either over-toasted or stale. The filter coffee was £4.50. At that price I expected a freshly-made large cup of exceptional coffee. Instead I got a very small cup of very ordinary coffee poured from a flask. I finished the coffee and expected a refill. But at no point did any of the waiters glance over and offer more. We had a pretty good meal at Lutyens but even with 50% off the food bill it didn't seem very good value (wine's started at £36). The place was pretty empty on a friday night from when we arrived at 7.15 to when we left at 9.15. The atmosphere is odd as it's quite a formal room but there's a noisy open kitchen on one wall even with only 2 chefs on duty (presumably they knew it'd be quiet). The food was ok but seemed very formulaic and unadventurous. We had mackerel and tuna to start. Both were fine but pretty small. For mains we had Hake and Pork (fillet was ok, belly was good, lentils were horrible). Again nothing special and quite small. Ordered sides of chilli brocolli (overboiled and very weak chilli) and chips (good). Still quite hungry at this point then ordered puddings which were very large. A cynic might say it was a cheap way of filling people up at the end of the meal but I couldn't possibly : )

The food still felt a bit expensive despite the deal though the setting was lovely and food was very good. Wine is on the pricey side but they do have a couple for under £30 if you can bring yourself to ask for them since they're not on the wine list. We had a white Bordeaux which was excellent; the wine list is extensive and if we'd had more time (and money) we'd have enjoyed talking to the sommelier about his recommendations. Lutyens seemed tired on this (not our first) visit. The food's detail was marginally on the erratic side, with soggy leaves accompanying the monkfish, though the cold tuna salad starter had good texture and edge. I wasn't particularly wowed by the food (mackerel and lamb) given the price and the service was somewhat curt and not overly attentive; on leaving the staff were a tad surly : maybe it trades on this and some people like it : good luck to them. The service here is good and the food good without being spectacular. While I would recommend it for a business lunch, it is a little clinical and lacks atmosphere.Functional without being somewhere you would try and go again

Lutyens is an ideal venue for a business lunch. It is accessible around the corner from Fleet Street which already gives it an intimate, quiet air. The tables are far enough apart for quiet conversation and the service is discreet. The servings are not overly generous, but the food is delicious.

I had arranged for a party of 19 for a semi formal dinner in one of the private dining rooms. We were looked after by Giles who could not do enough to help. The event ran like clockwork and he was very receptive to last minute changes in instructions. The food was good and service excellent.

An organised meal after we had visited the Carol Concert at St. Brides Church. THis was the prefect location right next to St. BRides. Food and service were very good and rounded off a very nice day.

Great dinner on a Friday just before Christmas and the restaurant was surprisingly quiet. 3 course set menu was varied and great value. All food was tasty and well portioned. Very attentive staff.

For someone who flatters himself as being somewhat knowledgeable about food and wine (having run the Chaine des Rotisseurs in London) I can say that this restaurant is first class. The menu is varied (sadly, no middle white pork that day) with innovative touches to stimulate even a jaded palate. Presentation on the plate is attractive and, although the place was pretty full on this occasion, with a Christmas party to follow in the evening, we had space to continue our business discussions, and our lunch lasted for nearly four hours, with no pressure to leave (delightfully French, that!) Most warmly recommended to anyone who cares for their food and wine!

A very well organised and welcoming staff on a very busy day. The food was very good indeed and I should be happy to return there at the first opportunity.

Great place for a Christmas party. Very good food, very attentive staff especially Giles who was very helpful and welcoming. Evening ran very smoothly. We hired the whole venue.so nice to have two rooms one with a disco and a quieter room so you could talk. Also good range of food with self service cheese and biscuits, and chocolate fountain.well thought out and set up.

A good value business lunch but service could be better. Our pre-meal drinks took a while to arrive, and then our starters were with us before we'd had the chance to take more than a couple of sips. We had to ask for the wine list. In general, our food arrived a bit sooner than we would have liked, but it was very good. At the end, we felt the need to request that our coffee was not brought with desserts, but after. We were able to linger over coffee, but the restaurant was being re organised around us for a big evening event.

We enjoyed lunch. The food was good and the setting interesting. However, we felt very pressurised and rushed throughout. Clearly the restaurant is used to quick-turnover dining. Not a good choice for a leisurely lunch.

The attentive nature of staff was outstanding when the bar was very busy. Food was timely and very good quality. Great atmosphere for a wide range of occasions.

It's not often that you need a sit down meal with your elderly, impoverished aunt who has just found out that she's not getting her inheritance from her grandfather's eccentric estate. We definitely needed a white tablecloth and some decent service, and that's what we got. Thanks to Lutyens for their charming, faultless, high end service. Very consoling on a difficult winter's day and delicious. Lots of business men in suits, and us behaving badly. The wine menu was definitely priced for city types and yet the sommelier was not too proud to direct us to a delicious £23 bottle of white that did very nicely for our less opulent budget.

A little less hectic than most business lunch venues. The food is really spectacular and the prices are top end even for this crowd. Can also recommend the bar next door where I enjoyed a superb Pinot. You can also rest easy in the knowledge that a portion of cheese and biscuits here contains barely any calories at all.

My husband and I went to Lutyens for a date night. The food was just about ok although the desert lacked flavour. I found the service lacking - the staff seemed rushed and we had to wait ages to order or pay. The waiter's English was pretty limited and he struggled to understand and answer some of our questions. The restaurant seemed full of men having business meetings so I wouldn't recommend it for a date or special occasion. The only real positive was the wines that were recommended to us - they were truly fantastic. The overall experience was below average and made even worse by the fact that the prices were very high - you'd expect top notch food and service for that.

Bit of a time warp?? Maybe all slightly earnest? We were attracted by OpenTable's £32 for 3 club supper courses and a glass of champagne offer and overall it was pretty good.Crisp white table linen, helpful Sommelier, attentive waiter who allowed us to swop the apple crumble dessert on the set menu for a tasting plate of their fabulous cheese trolley. One of 2 choices for each course and the salmon tartare and hake with samphire were delicious. But it's all a bit subdued and restrained and I think if they did something with the too harsh lighting people might relax more and have more fun.
