Ate with family last week. Had never heard of the place before but we did really enjoy the evening. The restaurant is dripping with French Bistro / Cafe ambience. The chairs not that comfortable, cafe table type. I think on of the booths may be better. Service a bit slow and with a degree of French inspired laissez-faire. But it works. Bread, delicious. Snails good and garlicky. pork belly, excellent and the dessert, well I was a bit unsure about "Paris Brest" but it was delicious. Overall good food at a very reasonable price. The Prix-Fixe was perfectly adequate and the wine list straightforward.

Great place with really tasty food. We were lucky to get a table along one of the walls. As people and the waiters and waitresses move around the restaurant it made us realise that we were seated in a good place as we were not in the middle with all the foot traffic coming past. There is a rather intriguing table at the back which is in a glass box, presumably for quiet and privacy. Wine is on tap but they had run out of the merlot that

This restaurant has been consistently one of our favorite places. Unfortunately when we went there 9 days before Christmas we were sorely disappointed. We were going their with 2 members of our family to celebrate my birthday. We all ordered meals we had enjoyed before. Nothing really came out right this evening. The staff seemed under a lot of pressure and were difficult to attract to place our orders, then are orders arrived after a long wait and were not hot and in some cases barely warm. Our favorite dessert, the tarte tatin, was well below the usually fantastic standard. We left quite upset as it ruined a special evening. We were told when we spoke to someone that they had one or more large groups in the restaurant that evening that were consuming the available staff.

Have been to the Galvin, Baker Street several times. Their signature dish, the crab lasagne is to die for. Sunday lunches are a real traditional treat. The roast beef and Yorkshire pudding is delicious. The service is always perfect and the atmosphere is great. Very sad that it is closing as the location is very convenient.

Visited on a Friday afternoon and the restaurant was very busy, We chose the set menu of 2 course with a drink and I really enjoyed the starter of veloute with nuts. Very tasty and piping hot. This was followed by venison pastilla on a bed of couscous which was only average as the venison was wrapped in a spring roll and rather greasy. My friend chose the smoked salmon as starter and grilled fillet of sea bream which looked presentable. Service was friendly.

A very enjoyable meal at Galvin. Good and dependable French food, executed well enough but not more. A £9.00 supplement for a simple cassoulet on a £22.50 menu seemed disproportionate and wasn't worth the spend. (Could the chef not have offered an entree within budget?) The restaurant was full and buzzing, and had a good ambience; a kilted piper for Burns' Night celebration only added to the occasion. Service was sound but our conversation was disrupted constantly by one waiter who repeatedly apologised for his interruptions. He obviously knew what he was doing but didn't seem to care about his bad and annoying manners. This habit should be trained out of him. Galvin is a quality establishment and when this location closes it will be a loss for the neighbourhood.

Service that is seamless means you don,t notice because they are that good.My smoked salmon starter with cream cheese quenelles was good to look at and tasted really nice.Entrecote was cooked to perfection but why can,t you have it with saute potatoes? Our waitress who was relatively new thought that there must be a logical reason but that she hadn,t been told it? It seems you can only have them for two with the Cote De Boeuf? The tarte tatin was so good, melt in the mouth that I nearly ordered seconds but realised that would have deprived someone else of a piece! My only gripe was that the base of my wine glass had a large chip in it which none of the waiters or sommelier noticed! This place gets it right every time and is to be congratulated on maintaining such a consistent standard. No it,s not particularly cheap but it,s always a very positive experience to dine here.

No attempt to pour wine after the first glass or remove aperitif glass for the duration (I've never seen the latter in a restaurant spending £20 on built in service). Consequently the focus is on the food, which was good enough, rather than spectacular. Found the signature crab lasagne / lobster bisque starter good in flavour though a bit spongy.

I wish I could give this a solid 4.5 out of 5! This is an authentic French bistro with a well-deserved reputation. The 3 course set menu with amuse bouche & glass of prosecco was superb value at £25.00. The crab lasagne to start tasted fabulous, the layers of mouse with a bisque were out of this world, but sadly I had 2 big lumps of shell in the mousse. The pork belly with prunes was also delicious but the belly fat was not rendered down quite enough. The service was very friendly and relaxed as you would expect from a Galvin restaurant, and our waiter kindly ensured that my dining partner who was on a medically restricted diet could have a bowl of vanilla ice cream, which was not on the menu.

We're regulars at Galvin, but this visit had a few surprises. Don't get me wrong, it's still a good restaurant but,…. I am guessing that they are going after a different market/customer. We always order the Crab Lasagna and love the delicate flavours. This time however, we were surprised to see it served with a Lobster Bisque, but both decided to give it a go - The Bisque dwarfed the other flavours and so was a thumbs down for us. We also noted that the Somelier was no where to be seen. I guess that this is a result of the wine list being reduced from an excellent choice, down to one page on the back of the one page menu. I hope that the changes are only seasonal and for Christmas, and that Galvin will resume normal business and service in the New Year

We dined at this rather lovely French restaurant in Baker Street. We were warmly greeted and shown to our table. The interior décor is rather nice, and feels very much like a typical Parisian bistro type restaurant in it's style and furnishing. After dining here, we were impressed with the food that we had, as everything was seasoned nicely to give a lovely fresh. authentic, tastes and flavours. Our starters were quite wonderful, but the mains were really delicious to say the least. The ingredients used for the dishes were so fresh and wonderfully natural tasting, it almost felt as though we were tasting France from our plates. The aromas of the dishes were so beautiful, it felt as though France was in the room. The service was fine with wonderful, polite and smartly dressed waiting staff. The wines accompanying our meals were. as you would expect of French wines, amazingly good. Our overall experience at this restaurant with the food, service, décor and atmosphere, felt as though we were dining in Paris, instead of a rather cold London. We left satisfied with our dining experience here.

We went for lunch. The "Menu Gourmande" with wine pairings was very good. But our enjoyment was not what it could have been because the service was not what we have come to expect from Galvin. We had no complaint about the staff, they were clearly trying their best to manage at a very busy time. But the restaurant was packed (resulting in a pretty unrelaxed atmosphere), and the staff were overstretched. Shame. A couple of other niggles. The vegetarian option was clearly an afterthought; and the wine (very tasty) was served in small unattractive glasses, rather than the normal goblets.

Pleasant atmosphere overall, though too warm for our comfort. Nice short walk from Baker Street Tube - very convenient. Entrecote beef was our entree choice, wonderful sauce flavor, beef very tough at medium prepartion and not up to standard for the cost. The onion soup starter was the best I have ever had and the pear souffle with ginger ice cream dessert was remarkable. A better cut of beef and cooler restaruant temperature would have made the evening perfect. Great service btw!

Disappointed! I love french cooking. After reading the reviews, booked the table on the same day. We took the Menu Gourmand of 4 courses, my partner and I had invited a friend who enjoys a glass, went with wine pairing. All four courses were just average, the first course of salmon was really supermarket's standard, not even much presentation; 2nd course, venison was about Ok. 3rd course, the cheese with very dry & hard toast, not impressed at all (my friend didn't even touch it!); dessert was again pretty average. Waitress was trying to give out good services, being seated at the middle row, waitress needed to push over my friend's chair a few times to squeeze across & reached the table on the side! I saw my friend's face wasn't too enjoyed about the pushes! According to my friend, the pairing wine were not great, the oldest was 2015/2016....so, overall, I'm not impressed and I feel rather embarrassed to invite a friend to join.

We had previously enjoyed two other Galvin restaurants but were left underwhelmed by the Baker Street outlet. Upon arrival, we were shown to a downstairs bar that resembled a lounge on a cheap Channel Ferry. Undeterred, we ordered our drinks and then sat there for 15 minutes awaiting their arrival. We were then shown to a cramped table upstairs where the poor waitress was simply over worked and could not adequately cope with the frenetic trade. Yes, the restaurant was full but that it not my problem and in my view, no excuse. I shall keep to the other Galvin outlets in future

Booked for lunch, table in middle of the room & our guest had to get up twice during the meal to let the cheese trolley past (not good). Sold out of our selected wine and I had to refill the glasses myself. Got to the end of the meal & was told we had to leave as they needed to setup the table & was given the bill, no coffee for anyone. Previous time we dined here I wrote to Galvin's to say how wonderful the staff were & what a great time we all had, very different to this time. We also accompanied our lunch with the paired wines selection which was a good move as it perfectly accompanied all the courses. Without wanting to sound pedantic, however, the setting reminds me far more of a brasserie rather than a bistrot, but regardless the meal and the service were impeccable. This is really a tale of two visits, one mine, one a friend's. My friend went a couple of months ago, booked for 8:30 pm precisely because the set menu, which seems excellent value, is only available for specific time slots - in his case, as in mine, 8:30 pm. He arrived on time, was kept waiting for half an hour, and when he got to his table was told that the set menu was only available if ordered no later than 8:30. He stamped his feet and insisted on getting the set menu. In my case, I arrived bang on time, party of six, myself and some Italian customers, and we were shepherded to the empty and rather soulless bar downstairs for half an hour, then shown to our table, not offered the set menu option, and it was only when one of the party popped outside for a cigarette and saw it displayed, that I realised what had happened. On top of this, we had to ask for extra bread - I feel at this kind of establishment they should automatically offer two bread baskets for a table of 6, and refill as necessary. I asked for a dozen snails, and 6 arrived. I couldn't be bothered to insist on the extra half-a-dozen, as we were already running 30 minutes late. The food was good - not as good as the food I had previously had at their excellent Spitalfields restaurant, but good. The service was somewhat lackadaisical.

Visited for late prix-fixe menu lunch on a trip to the West End (about 10 minute walk up from Oxford Street) and were quite impressed. The main restaurant is not too large (approx 60 covers) and has an eclectic French atmosphere, with a mix of traditional and modern touches, so feels more intimate and comfortable than the 'sterile' environments in many big London restaurants.Chose from the reasonably priced set menu - mackerel and terrine starters, both had sea bream mains and a couple of yummy chocolate and toffee pudding desserts. All good and my main reason for not giving a 5* rating was the mixed service levels, which were attentive when we arrived but tailed off and, for example, I don't expect an expensive bottle of wine to be dumped in a cooler on the table and the guest left to open and serve it themselves!Overall very good but Galvin need to sharpen up their service standards.

Finding myself visiting London, staying in the Marylebone area, with no pre-booked dinner, I thought that I’d try Galvin as it looked warm and inviting from the street. The receptionist was polite and welcoming of a lone diner and my spirits were high as she escorted me into the dining room. Alas, I was to the back of a fairly full area and seated looking at an empty area which remained empty for the whole time that I remained. Depressing, especially as there were similar tables in the main area that stayed empty during my meal.Service was polite though a bit forgetful, my wine only arrived with the main course. Wine and coffee were excellent, but all three courses were rather mediocre, the product of an artless kitchen.Goat cheeses and beet salad, simple but tasty if well done, as it is at Brawn in the East End. A leaden “crispy” pork belly that I just couldn’t finish. A bland rum baba.If this is the standard at Galvin Bistro du Luxe (du Luxe mind) maybe, we are returning to the age of the Bernie Inn. Seventy-two pounds for one. There are an awful lot of excellent restaurants in the area that deliver much, much more for the same or less.

Great atmosphere, quiet, nicely-appointed room, excellent food, wine and desserts. Service ranged from excellent to horrible. We were seated right away and asked if we wanted an aperitif. The dessert-taker was excellent re: explaining the dishes, providing recommendations, etc. Pleasant and not snooty. However, our principal waiter was snooty, inconsistent and frequently couldn't be bothered with us. He failed to return to take our wine order, did not respond when we asked someone else to send him over, and we had to actually get out of our seat and go ask him to take our wine order! Also, when he asked us whether we wanted still versus fizzy water and we requested still, he automatically brought us BOTTLED still water. But when our guests arrived and they told him still water, he brought them tap water. I.e., he never suggested to us that we had the option of tap still water (as opposed to automatically bringing us bottled still water.)

Having enjoyed lunch recently at another Galvin establishment, we decided to try dinner at their original restaurant on Baker Street. The decor and environment are quite reminiscent of a traditional French bistrot. Service was swift, professional and attentive. The atmosphere was lively but not too noisy. The starter and main (fish) course, chosen from the Prix Fixe menu, were delicious and both the accompanying prosecco and house white were of good quality. The chocolate mouse dessert was a little disappointing by comparison - too contrived and rather messy in presentation - but nevertheless quite tasty. Overall, this was an enjoyable and good value meal. Our waitress was knowledgeable, very pleasant, and attended immediately to our needs, checking at regular intervals that everything was to our satisfaction.

We decided to go with the paired wines option alongside the Gourmand: 4 Courses & Aperitif. This deal is clever in the way it uses slightly cheaper ingredients, but produces a lovely meal for a fabulous price.
The service lacked specialist knowledge on either the food or wine which detracted from the experience somewhat... but they worked well to accommodate us with adjustments to the menu catering for someone with Coeliac disease.
All in all, I'd recommend this deal, but they did inadvertently over charge us by £72 which I only discovered on the train home.
I left a voicemail explaining, but no one called me back. however, when I called them myself the following day, the matter was swiftly resolved.

Escargots, the last grouse of the season (perfectly pink!) and a bottle of Mercurey (or 2), life is sooooo sweet! Thank you to Sassa for the great service!

I have been to Bistrot de Luxe at least 10 times and they have never failed to impress! I'd also recommend their loyalty programme.

Great value set menu on a Monday night. Very few places in London that will beat this deal. Great on price and consistent quality! A must try

Having eaten at Galvin Bistro around 3 times before we recommended it to our friends to celebrate their 40 th wedding anniversary. We went for the fixed price lunch menu which is good value for money. However we did not receive the free glass of processco as advertised. The head waiter did not make us feel very welcome and the standard of the food and atmosphere and service was definately not what we had experienced before. I had let the resturant know twice re the special anniversary and it was not acknowledged at all. Overall I was very dissapointed and felt very let down as I had arranged this for my friends celebration it was most definately not the standard which we usually get at a Galvin restaurant. We had decided to book for New Years Eve yesterday but then changed our mind due to this experience. We have always classed this as one if our favourite restaurants so we are now very dissapointed

Good food but waited 30 minutes for order to be taken then 45 minutes to be served. Explanation was that they were short staffed that day.

Cannot understand why I had booked through Open Table and had a confirmation, and my wife had also booked verbally and direct with the restaurant by mistake directly for a slightly earlier time and they had neither reservation.
Service to commence was really terrible , it was all going very wrong and we realised this had to be unusual, but eventually the manager was exemplary and fully made up for any shortfall.
We will go back again! Food was fantastic

Been here several times, this time wasn't as good, which was a big shame as we went with friends after telling them how good it was. When booking the restaurant online we were asked if was a special occasion but it wasn't acknowledge. Servise wasn't as friendly as other times, no complementary prossco, this was advertised on the on line menu. Over all OK but not what we usually say after having lunch at Galvins.

Took advantage of the £17.50 3 course lunch offer which is fantastic value. It came with a glass of prosecco and as our 9 year old son was with us they offered to make him a mocktail which he loved.Roast beef was no longer on the menu so for my husband who had ordered that, they offered boudin noir as an alternative. It was absolutely delicious, boudin had I think, shredded roast beef laced through it.For our son they offered to do him a steak at no extra cost after the excellent waiter/manager sensed that boudin noir might not be his thing. It was done to perfection and he absolutely loved it.Desserts were delightful and the service was personal and attentive without being overpowering. Our son felt that he had had a real treat, we felt that we had had a lovely family lunch without breaking the bank or resorting to fast food. The epitome of a French bistro experience. When we arrived, we were the first customers so it felt very formal and quiet with no music, but as lunch service got going the place was pretty full and the atmosphere changed to one of buzzy conviviality.Would recommend, particularly for this deal which we booked through Open Table.

Decided we had to have a traditional English roast dinner while we were visiting London and chose Galvin. It did not disappoint. Service was good and the price very reasonable. Overall the dinner was excellent. We chose the roast lamb leg with mint sauce, and the roast beef. Both came medium rare with a beautifully cooked selection of vegetables, gravy, roast potatoes and very light and airy Yorkshire pudding. The meat was very tender and extra gravy arrived promptly when requested. The only slight disappointment was the mint sauce accompanying the lamb which turned out to be a rather bland and lumpy mint jelly.

We visited on a Friday evening during a recent trip to London. The restaurant was busy, with a great atmosphere and the service was fantastic from start to finish. We went for the Menu Gourmand with pairing wines and the food and wines were extremely good. We felt that the well run restaurant was great value for money and we will definitely visit again.

My friend and I had the Gourmand fixed price menu and one of us had the paired wines. The food was exceptionally good with the venison being a stand out.The atmosphere is that of an authentic bistro and I praticularly liked the fact that the staff did not push either the a la carte or prix fixe menus. Instead, the service was relaxed but attentive. Although the restaurant was full, there was no apparent stress.I look forward to dining here again.

I love this restaurant chain, I often go there with my family and friends, but the service that was on Friday at the restaurant in Soho leaves much to be desired. Sluggish staff and a long wait, although the seating was not full. The restaurant manager served me partly. I was celebrating a birthday, a friend gave me flowers, I asked to bring water for them myself, because no one offered. The waiter brought water with ice. I asked to change it, he brought a bucket without water. And only on the third time he brought regular water. I also suspect that the bill indicated the wrong number of glasses of wine, more than necessary, but, unfortunately, this cannot be proven because no one offered me a receipt after payment.

Wonderful aged steaks impeccably served. Old style panelled dining room hidden from the crowded bars of the Ned Hotel. Definitely an “in” place with live jazz on a central stage. We tried the sharing tomahawk while the other guest had a fillet. Faultless. A carefully decanted Amarone Tommasi to accompany it. As good as it gets.

Came here after work today (30/09) at 5:30 pm and the service was very fast and the employee was very lovely. Will definitely come back for the amazing service, I unfortunately didn’t get his name! Pastries are super delish as well.
