The hospitality here was second to none. I felt like I was in a family owned cafe, off the beaten path on the Continent. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and they were some of the best I evet had. I'm frustrated that we didn't discover Luscious until the last morning of our stay in Edinburgh. Well worth a visit.

My partner and I had just arrived off the plane from Ireland and were looking to start our trip with a simple breakfast fry with orange juice and ice. Problems started right away when the juice arrived without ice despite having asked specifically. I could have forgiven that but then the breakfast itself cane..both were missing the hash browns but the most unforgivable and shocking part was the toast. The waiter actually served us black charred burnt to a crisp toast with zero shame whatsoever. To top off this travesty, what was barely worth £10 altogether, came to over £36’ absolutely ridiculous, would advise everyone to stay clear!

This cute diner had the most welcoming staff, even procuring gluten free bread from another restaurant when they didn’t have any. The meals were good and plentiful at a reasonable price. I had pancakes, bacon and an egg, my husband had a ham and cheese omelette. So much ham I gave away 1/3! Nice large cappucino rounded it out.

My mum and I were standing outside this cafe, reading the menu, deciding whether or not to go in, when an elderly couple of tourists told us that we had to go in because it was so good. They were right :) The manager was so welcoming and sensed that I had sensory needs, so without drawing attention to this, advised that we sit in the corner in case it were to get busy. He gave us some great recommendations of places to go, particularly the Museum of Childhood and Calton Hill. Calton Hill in particular was a brilliant recommendation, as it was not too busy and offered amazing views of the city. The food was lovely. It was our first time trying haggis, so we were slightly apprehensive, but it was amazing and much better than black pudding! Thank you so much for having us and for being so lovely and welcoming!

Popped in for a late lunch with my partner, ordered panini, coffee and a veggie burger. Food was pretty low quality but served the purpose and the coffee was fine I guess. I was most irked when I came to pay to discover that these 3 items cost £29.40. I recalled the prices being expensive on the menu (£10.50 for a panini with a few salad leaves, £13 for a veggie burger) but it didn’t add up to £29.40. There was an issue with payment, card machine wasn’t working so I had to pay cash but when I asked for an itemised bill there was a 10% service charge. This is moderately standard these days but the prices were already high, it was taking me over 5 minutes to pay due to the card machine so I asked to take the service charge off. I was then informed that it’s mandatory and truth be told the text “a 10% service charge will be added to your bill” is in small text on the bottom of the menu. I wasn’t going to argue more so paid up but frankly the prices were already high and at 10% extra I would’ve rather gone elsewhere. Overall food was low quality, service was fine but prices were extortionate.

Stopped in here yesterday with my family for lunch after wandering the royal mile. We were all disappointed with the service we received and the quality of the food. Less than a minute after sitting down the hovering began. We hadn’t even had time to fully look over the menu let alone settle in and the guy serving us, I’m assuming the manager, was standing at the head of the table with pen and paper. He didn’t say anything just stood there and waited. We told him we still needed time cause we hadn’t even passed the first page of the lunch menu and it was making us feel uncomfortable. He also at this time over explained for the second time that they were no longer serving breakfast which is clearly stated on the menu as if we were all dumb. We all ordered paninis and wraps which the menu states comes with a salad. What came on the side of our lunches was not a salad. It was garnish at best. It was honestly three leaves of frisée lettuce with olive oil drizzled on it. Just because you put some oil on a couple pieces of lettuce it doesn’t make it a salad. The lettuce hadn’t even been properly washed as mine still had visible pieces of dirt on it. I ordered the hummus, tomato and roasted red pepper panini. It had one slice of tomato (cut in half so one for each side of my sandwich) and about four pepper slices. We’ve been in the UK for almost two weeks now and I’d say, compared to other places, it’s a little overpriced for what you get. Around £7.45 for some toast with hummus, a couple veggies and “salad” that left everyone still hungry. The moment we all took our last bites the servers which had been hovering to the side of the restaurant cleared our plates. As soon as all the plates were cleared all our glasses were cleared without even asking if we wanted or needed anything else. I’d like to point out that two of us at the table work in the service industry, one at a steakhouse and myself in the lounge of a 4 star hotel, we would never dream of completely clearing anyone’s table without checking that they didn’t need anything else (ie. dessert, refills etc.) This leaves people feeling rushed and it was very obvious that we were being rushed and we were not wanted there. When we went to pay at the counter we presented the manager with a Canadian credit card his response was “oh you’re Canadian?” His whole tone began to change when he realised we were Canadian. It’s pretty safe to say he assumed we were American and this was a big factor in the poor service we received. Would not recommend stepping foot in this establishment especially if you are from North America as you will be poorly treated by a judgemental manager and meals are a mediocre snack at best. Through reading other responses to one and two star reviews of this restaurant on trip advisor it’s just a further examples of the managers poor, unprofessional attitude.

I really wish I had actually read these reviews before I entered this establishment as I would never have gone there. The owner is incredibly rude and this is blatantly evident in his responses to early reviews of his obnoxious behaviour. My husband and I had been ambling along the royal mile and stopped in here for breakfast - we sat down and ordered two full breakfasts - the waitress asked if I wanted something to drink and I said no I was finishing the takeaway coffee I had grabbed higher up the street. Off she went - 2 min later I took a sip of the said coffee and the man behind the counter shouted across the whole restaurant - no consuming of things not bought here - I pointed out that we had ordered two full breakfasts and was just finishing my coffee. He continued his rant - luckily we hadn’t consumed anything produced there so we got up and left immediately! No matter the quality of food - I would never set foot in an establishment run by that man!

Lovely friendly staff. Great breakfast good coffee. Loved the little table lights. Serving breakfast until 2pm and good choice of light meals. The scones look amazing just a shame I filled up on breakfast.

Lovely and accommodating service. Serves food all day (no lunch break). Right on the royal mile not far from the Holyrood end. They helpfully tailored a meal for our picky child. Nice vegetable soup with yummy home baked bread. We really enjoyed the Edinburgh Tea.

En descendant la rue principale face au château il s'agit d'un tout petit restaurant avec quelques plats bon mes petits en portion éviter les rolls qui sont loin d'être exceptionnel

We popped in here for lunch and were really happy with both the service and the food. the staff were very friendly and efficient and the food just perfect. As a vegetarian I sometimes struggle to get anything inspiring (Scotland seems to think vegetarians eat only macaroni cheese) and I ordered a baked potato with peppers and cheese, not really expecting much. However, what the chef had done with simple ingredients should serve as a lesson to all others. The potato itself was perfectly baked, the red peppers had been baked, skinned and marinated in something very yummy. and the salad was finely chopped and contained a good amount of fresh coriander. Mixing the potato, peppers, salad and cheese together made every mouthful a real delight. Best baked potato ever.

Met a family member for a coffee and a chat. After paying was surprised to see I'd charged for a 'tip', a 'service charge' whatever., but I'd paid before receiving what if ordered. Good customer service should be 2nd nature and not because the staff member has been paid extra to do so, up front! If the customer thinks it's been a good experience & feels the staff member deserves a tip then that would be at the customers discretion. I get it, it's not a well paid job so tips help a lot. However if the staff you have are the type you really want to be the face of your brand then they should make every customer feel special, Happy customers breed happy reviews online, to friends, workmates, tourists etc and help you grow your business with positivity. The coffee and everything else about the visit was great so don't take above as a criticism, it's merely an opinion. Money is tight all round so paying extra without prior knowledge can have a knock-on effect.

Young white guy with blonde hair was so rude the moment I walked in. He was the only one at the counter and took forever to take my order even though he was doing nothing. I ordered a pastrami on rye dine in and got it toasted. After patiently waiting 30 whole minutes at my table, no sign of my sandwich (which was already made and all he had to do was toast it). I walked up to him and asked where it is and he looked like I was an inconvenience to him. He asked annoyingly “what did ya order again” and then took a sandwich from the bar and started toasting it. He then rudely plopped it on my table with no real care. Not once did he apologise or admit his mistake. The sandwich itself was okay but definitely not worth the price. There were barely any pickles and it was toasted so poorly - it was as if he put it on the toaster for only 10 seconds. While I was there, I also witnessed another incident where an older woman politely told the same waiter that her food was served cold and he didn’t apologise and begrudgingly took it back to the kitchen. He brought it out again and the woman complained that although her food was hot now it was a mushy mess that looked inedible. He looked so annoyed but thankfully the manager took over and apologised repeatedly with great professionalism. In summary - average and expensive food, extremely rude and uncaring waiter, but manager was empathetic and caring.

Hanams was one of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh so I was excited to go back. I assumed it was going to be the same as the menu hadn’t changed much. It appears to be run by different people now who aren’t from the Middle East. The food is nowhere near the levels it used to be. The lamb was overcooked and the chicken didn’t have the authentic clay oven charring. It was almost like it had been cooked in an air fryer or oven so seriously lacked flavour and not what I was looking forward to. We ordered prawns for main which arrived with no bread and a small amount of salad. Not really what you expect for a main meal, especially given it was about £20. The Halloumi fries were quite nice but nowhere near as good as they used to be. The place was empty on a Friday night which I think tells you this place has went downhill as it used to be difficult to get a table at the weekends. Despite being empty we had to go up and ask for the bill as the service was poor and the staff weren’t very attentive. I’m afraid I won’t be going back, which is a shame as I used to love this place.
