Lu's Place in Kirklees

First, my satnav took us to a trading estate which is apparently the head office and not the restaurant which is on a hill going out of Meltham. The restaurant has a giraffe theme, the owner's mother's favourite animal? My family had a variety of the breakfasts on offer but I had the full English. As I do not like mushrooms, they were substituted with another item. The breakfast was very tasty with my bacon being very crispy and eggs with a runny yoke. We all enjoyed our food and the ambiance of the restaurant. The staff were friendly and attentive. This is not the cheapest place for a breakfast but ideal for special occasions. I would have preferred the choice of adding a tip rather than having a service charge added automatically.

After coming here for lunch with a friend and loving it! I decided it would be a perfect venue for my friends baby shower. From making the booking, submitting pre orderes, emailing queries to help with my planning to the actual day of the baby shower, Niomi at Lu’s Place was amazing! She was so accommodating, so helpful and just went above and beyond! All the guests of the baby shower loved the venue and everyone commented on how lovely the food was (big portions too!) The staff were superb, really helpful and thoughtful, and very quick at tending to people’s needs. The food was amazing, very well organised with a large booking of 17 people. It came out quickly, tasted amazing and as I said earlier was large portions. At the end of the evening the staff even helped us with taking decorations/presents back to our car. We were there right until the end of the afternoon, past closing time! And Niomi was still so kind as to tell us to take our time, we didn’t feel rushed at all. We love Lus Place anyway, the venue is beautiful, staff really lovely and food tastes amazing! But after hosting an event there I love it even more! If you are thinking about booking Lus for a special occasion I would highly recommend it. Cant wait to return again! This was my first visit and will not be my last. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with a friendly smile and treated like Royalty. The staff couldn’t do enough for you. We didn’t like our table position and they went above and beyond to find us a better position. I had been bought a voucher for a special birthday and I was treated very specially. The food was lovely and the brownie to die for. Looking forward to our next visit.

We have been to the last 2 bottomless brunch events at Lu's and I just wanted to say how great they are! As someone who treks to Leeds to do brunches, it's refreshing to have a great local place that offers the same, if not, an even better experience! The price for a ticket is spot on- you usually pay the same for an event in Leeds (plus you have to pay for travel) so being able to do a brunch on your doorstep is ideal. The level of service from the staff is always amazing, even when the space is packed out. Staff always ensure your drinks are full, your happy and are always participating in the theme of the event making sure everyone's having the best time. One things Lu's know how to do is an event! The décor, music and theme is always spot on! Included in the cost, you also get to order food from the brunch menu which is fantastic! It's exactly what you need to compliment the drinks and music. The kitchen do a great job to ensure good quality food is ready- even with a packed out space. Overall- I would highly recommend attending one of the brunch events. Great way to get out on a weekend with friends and have fun! Looking forward to the next one!

First we've visited and we'll certainly be back - it's a little on the pricey side but for that little bit extra in cost you do get great service, lovely food and a really nice dining environment. Really nice unique spot. Food was great (we had paninis and pizza) but were spoilt for choice on the menu. The children's menu was great and really well priced - especially as out little boy is 1 so doesn't eat the usual children's portions / food options.

Excellent spot for a coffee, milkshake or light lunch. We visited on a Sunday on one of the hottest days of the year. Lovely as usual. It's not cheap but if you want somewhere a bit different and special, then this is your place! Lovely staff too. Only criticism is the buzzer didn't work for us to order food. Keep up the good work Lu's !!

I have no problem paying high prices for good food but I have a huge problem paying high prices for poor food. The menu was disappointing, nothing interesting or special on it and it turned out to be one of the worst breakfasts we have ever had, on the English breakfasts the hashbrowns were cheap, bought in, frozen efforts, which for the price of the breakfast these should have been homemade Rosti, the tomato was under-ripe, under-cooked and cold, the half a rasher of bacon was cold and the black pudding was dry and hard. The huge thick slice of rock-hard bread passed off as toast was a joke, it was bigger than the breakfast. The eggs benedict were a ridiculous price considering the cheap muffins and bought in hollandaise sauce, I made the mistake of assuming that because the price was double anywhere else locally and £1 more than I pay at Fortnum & Mason I expected the hollandaise to be homemade! The children couldn’t eat their breakfasts they were so bad so I was going to order them a piece of cake instead but they had nothing homemade so didn’t bother. They couldn’t even have toast off the full breakfasts as it was so hard it was inedible. In addition to this the service was ridiculously slow, don’t know how they’d cope if it was busy, it all seemed confused and unorganised. So £120 later with hungry children, we left, to feed the children elsewhere, never to return. I will never go to anywhere based on on-line reviews ever again, we’ll stick to recommendations from people we know in future. When we asked for the bill (which has service automatically added) we were asked if everything has been OK, I said no and the waitress laighed and walked away. Looked like she thought I was joking, very unprofessional. There was also a strange thing, the café was very quiet whilst we were there yet everyone who came in as walk in were offered poor tables and were told the other tables were booked as they were fully booked, all we heard was 'fully booked, fully booked' but no one came in and sat at those tables, it looked like they were telling people they were booked to make themselves look popular. The whole time we were there it was very quiet so I don’t what happened to all of their bookings? As we left had a real 'what the hell was that?' moment.

Our new favourite place to dine either for Breakfast or Lunch. Firstly the service by all the waiters and waitresses is fantastic, Everyone is so welcoming and inviting. Lu’s place has a really great vibe with the beautiful decor, It is very clean and well maintained making it a real sit back relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. We have dined here on quite a number of occasions now mainly with my daughter and it’s by far our new favourite place to eat. The food is fantastic and we haven’t had a bad experience with any of our Meals. Hats off to the chef and kitchen team, Food is served in a timely manner, Well presented and tastes fantastic. We have tried a number of meals from a full English breakfast, The Chicken and chorizo pizza, Caesar salads, Burgers, Panini’s ect and it’s all been superb. The price of the meals is reasonable and justified for the chilled out dining experience you receive. We are becoming a regular at Lu’s place and look forward to many more enjoyable Meals and dining experiences here at Lu’s. Thank you and see you again soon 😊

What a fabulous afternoon.The choice of food on the afternoon tea was amazing, even the vegetarian option was delicious and so different from the usual food served elsewhere. We both brought a box home with the cake we couldn’t eat so a nice treat to look forward to later. The cocktails were such a nice add on and the staff were very nice and friendly. Such a relaxing atmosphere, we will definitely be back soon.

As a local, thought I’d make an impromptu visit to get breakfast with the children…on arrival, we was told we could only have high seats in the glasshouse, did ask if we could have alternative seats but it was ‘fully booked’. I do feel this was a subtle way to deter us given we probably wasn’t the usual calibre of customers they wanted to attract, I did note the cafe, in fact wasn’t ’fully booked’ throughout the duration of our visit so I’m disappointed with this divisive tactic Ordered milkshakes for the children: over £8 for milkshake is steep, even if the cow was reared in Lu’s sprawling back garden, ate premium Yorkshire grass and caviar, I could still taste the milkshake powder. Half an English breakfast £13, a bacon butty £8.50 and eggs Benedict (£17 for two poached eggs on muffins with some hollandaise sauce and a cress dressing) - even in inflation, these exceed London prices and really not justified, and as you say in your own words in previous review feedback, you’re not ‘fine dining’ so why charge Michelin prices?? The food, decor and service was ok hence the three stars but I don’t think the prices are representative nor do I want to pay £70 for a breakfast to feel like a substandard human with a clearly selective clientele; just make it private members only if you don’t want to include the average Meltham resident. The cafe has an ‘emperor’s new clothes’ vibe to it, it’s exploitative and no amount of excuses will rationalise the ridiculous prices they charge here. As Lu rightly points out, I don’t have to come back and after trialling it, fair to say I won’t be returning or recommending.

We recently visited as a group of 4 with two children and really enjoyed our visit. The decor and ambiance was spot on. Food was fantastic and staff very friendly and attentive. The only thing I would wish could be different were the menu choices for the kids, the only thing my two liked of the choices (pizza, ham & cheese sandwich or chicken wrap) was the pizza and when it came it was a deep pan style which neither of them particularly liked. Some fish/chicken bites, mini burger or thin and crispy pizza would go down a lot better with most kids.

The restaurant is a nice friendly with a relaxed atmosphere went on Saturday morning four of us for breakfast. 4 full. English breakfasts 2 teas 2 coffees £80.

It is the first time I have been here and it will not be the last. The place is amazing, beautiful decor. The staff are attentive and friendly. The food was so tasty and fresh. It isn’t the cheapest place to eat however it is a good example of you get what you pay for. Cannot wait to visit again.

Came here today for the first time. Decor is really cool and love the giraffe theme. I had the steak sandwich and my mum and Nana had the fish finger sandwich. We all really enjoyed the food. The steak was amazing and so tasty.

Popped in for a well needed coffee with our dogs after a walk close by & the service was amazing & so accommodating, especially with the pups! The staff were so lovely & went out of their way for us so will definitely be returning to try out the food :)

First visit here today and loved it!! Came for lunch, I had the fish finger butty and hubby had steak sandwich, both really good, such a lovely relaxed place, very unique, was very well looked after by the team , Sarah was friendly and efficient. Attended the Toy Story experience and first time at Lu's place. The restaurant is lovely very well decorated and staff welcoming, the Toy Story theme was a great idea and could see the kids loved it. Food was good too. However, I feel having to pay a £15.00 deposit each, which I was unaware of at the time of booking, just to attend this function is beyond extortion especially when you don't get anything for it (albeit the children do). Not even a free cup of coffee was on offer. When I questioned this later by telephone after seeing the amount of money which had been taken from my account, I asked "what do we get for the 15.00" to be told the Toy story experience. She also advised there was face painting and activities and a gift. Absolutely fine for the children. I was there for the breakfast session and it was packed, which is lovely to see, so I suspect the rest of the day was full too. For a 60.00 deposit for face painting and sweets doesn't seem good value for money in these economic times considering the meal was a further 68.00 + service charge. Maybe next time there is a themed event just take one deposit or offer free coffee for the adults.

It was our first visit to Lu's place, and it won't be our last. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted warmly by the staff and shown to our table. We had booked the Toy Story event so had our children with us. The attention to detail was incredible, there was even a specially prepared toy story themed menu for the day. We all enjoyed both our main and dessert courses and all the way through the experience, nothing was too much trouble and the gifts to take home were a lovely surprise. We really were blown away by LU's place and can't wait to visit again soon!

I've been to Lu's several times now since it opened and it is such a lovely place! Both breakfast and lunch menu's have a good range for a great value (for such high quality ingredients). All of the staff are so welcoming and happy to help with whatever you ask for! Would highly recommend!

Not made to feel welcome :-( walked in for breakfast with only one table having customers. Looking on computer to see if I can have a table for breakfast and then told you I can have it for an hour and 20. Not exactly friendly but I’m glad they’re doing that well to turn off paying customers in a near empty restaurant. My anxiety eating to a schedule simply would not coup.

Very expensive for what you get! But restaurant building and decor is really nice. Staff were friendly. You have to pay by card … no cash taken. Plus they add the service charge automatically onto your bill which I don’t really like.
