Not been for 2yrs and sadly still not impressed. Menu still very basic and small. Still no return of dish of the day. The place was pretty busy but none of the food looked like it was saying ‘try me’ to either of us. We did say shall we go somewhere else but decided to stay. Food arrived, light bite scampi & chips which consisted of 5 extremely small pieces of scampi, a dozen chips if that and about 20 peas. Cheese & onion toastie was very greasy and appeared salty. Crockery had big chips/cracks in them which is off putting. Sorry but today was our absolute last visit

Really friendly staff, polite, quick service so nothing to complain about there. Unfortunately the breakfast let it down abit, the sausages were really overcooked, very dry so nearly didn't eat them, not very pleasant. I'm guessing they had been cooked then warmed up? The scrambled egg was very milky and tasteless. The rest of it was nice but just a couple of improvements needed because it's not cheap. £10.95 for a breakfast I don't mind paying, but just needs abit more love putting into the quality to reflect the price, main thing the sausages, maybe it was just a one off.

Arrived at 3:15pm Saturday. Attempted to order bowl of chips but informed kitchen closed at 3pm. Ordered two cups of tea and two scones. 25 mins later my wife chased up our order as we were still waiting. Our order was sat behind the counter whilst most of the 6 staff busied themselves with cleaning duties (obviously preparing for a quick getaway at 4pm). The tea and scones duly arrived but no milk. Tasting the scones they were dry and powdery, tending to disintegrate as soon as they were touched. We’ll be seriously thinking twice before returning which is such a shame. To summarise: it wasn’t busy but the service was poor with staff more prioritising cleaning before customers, little concern for our order and poor quality food. 😤

I decided to come for a spot of brunch and was not disappointed in the slightest. The breakfast burrito was an absolute taste sensation, and a must try if you get the chance. The cafe seems to have a real buzz behind the counter as all you can hear is laughter and singing which makes the experience more enjoyable.

I popped in here whilst having time to kill. I had to check I was in the right place having read the last couple of reviews. I couldn’t have been greeted and served in a more welcoming and friendly manner. The same reaction from all the three ladies who interacted with me. Service with a smile. I like to think I know my scones and this one was an exceptionally good scone. I also appreciate the price of an exceptionally good scone; ironically I found it very reasonable. I could quite happily have sampled any one of the cakes there - looks like someone sure knows how to either bake - or source quality baking. Either it’s completely new staff there, they have learned from recent feedback - or people need to appreciate the cost of things, the size of a normal portion and that perhaps their own attitude needs an honest review. All in all, time very well spent.

First time here for a while and it used to be better. I think nearly £17 for a flat white coffee, lighter bite Quiche with around 8 chips added for an extra £2, and I thin slice of cake is expensive compared to similar places. The toilets could do with a spruce up too

Whilst out walking in the area my wife & I decided to visit Lucy's Coffee Shop for some refreshments. We have used the cafe a number of times previously & have always been impressed. On this occasion we both ordered a bacon butty, my wife's on gluten free bread, gluten & dairy free mince pies, an americano & green tea. The ladies in this cafe are always very welcoming & friendly. Our order arrived quite quickly, even though they were busy. The bacon butties were delicious, plenty of bacon & not too crispy. The mince pies although small were excellent with a good filling. The coffee & tea were also very good. My wife said her coffee was the best compared to other cafe's we have been to lately. The premises are very clean, well maintained & the cafe is really popular. We would have no hesitation in recommending Lucy's.

Had a bad experience today Firstly they over charged me and when I corrected them they didn't even apologise, Very expensive for average food £1.50 to add cheese to your chips baring in mind the chips are £3.50+ My husband then went back up and orderd a sausage roll which never came so when we went up to find out where it was she brought it in a bag and said in a very sarcastic voice they couldn't find the ticket for the order but you can have the sausage roll anyways making out like we didn't pay for it and we was trying to have them over! Checked my bank to double check and the money had come out for it! Very poor manners from the staff none of them are approachable. I will not be returning.

After visiting the coffee shop for many years, it used to be one of our favourite places for a coffee and cake, unfortunately after visiting the coffee shop recently, my in-laws and myself will not be returning! I will say that my only compliment towards the new look of the coffee shop, is the name badges because I was able to identify who the abrupt and impatient workers were! We were seated straight away, we did ask for a bigger table but was denied! When going to the till to place my order, I was served by the manager who made me feel like a chore to serve. The girls who brought my food and served my drinks thankfully made up for our rude encounter. We used to love Lucy’s coffee shop dearly and now we are not sure if we will ever return.

Our order was taken & we were seated only a short while before the order arrived. My wife had a sultana scone & americano & I had a sultana scone with a latte. On arrival at the counter we were warmly welcomed by a lady & asked what we would like. My wife ordered a mocha with a cherry scone & I ordered a latte with a fruit scone. The coffee was very good & served hot which many cafes seem to struggle to achieve. The scones, home made, were served warm. They were soft & very tasty. The cafe & toilets were very clean. We were looking for somewhere to go on Saturday as we knew the weather was not going to be great and our Mum has not been good recently so really feels the cold and cannot walk too far. I did a google search and found Southwood Garden Centre and that they had a lovely coffee shop called Lucys. The pictures looked nice and so we thought we would try it out. When you first enter it is nice and cosy (and warm) and going to our table we could see all the lovely cakes on the display. The menu had plenty of options and as our Mum isn't eating as much as she used to and my sister has gallstones and cannot eat bread we were able to find food that was suitable for all. I had a jacket potato with cheese and beans, my sister had a jacket potato with tuna mayonnaise and our Mum had a fishfinger sandwich. All the food was freshly made and with generous portions too, so much so that we didn't (sadly) have room for cake. The coffee's were very nice too and they had skimmed milk which was a bonus as not all places do. The staff are also very nice and helpful too. We would highly recommend paying a visit and we will definitely be going again (this time to have cake!).

The noise was unbelievable sitting in Armageddon a child screaming in shrill high pitched intermittent shrieks that we moved tables as the food was served to be as far away as possible from it. The "barristra "on the expresso machine expelled the water grounds with such "venom and spite" that we had to pause our conversation when the pile driving hammering occurred. Then deep in conversation around rhe table a voice " I'll take these away then " the coffee and tea was gulped down and after removed. THEN tables around us had chairs placed on them a mop and bucket arrives and a strong solution od bleach permeates. We fled closing time 4.00. Time of going 2.30. Do these people want to stay in business? If they do they won't at this rate and a good job too. Just don't go .

We visited with my daughter and (almost) 3 year old granddaughter to have supper with Father Christmas in December. We had booked the Christmas dinner option for the 4 of us and were not expecting anything special, thinking that the kitchen was probably too small to cater for mass Christmas dinners. However I was quite surprised and impressed with the meal, it was hot, proper turkey slices (not turkey roll as in many establishments doing mass festive catering), chipolata sausage, sprouts, carrots, roast potatoes. It took quite a while to bring out all the meals which is only to be expected and they brought the meals out on a first come, first served basis which was fair. There were no drinks or puddings included in the price. I did feel that the children at least should have had ice cream or something.

I had cheese and tomato sandwiches and they looked lovely! They came with a salad garnish, coleslaw and crisps. Very good value for money, a plentiful portion! My 3 year old son enjoyed sharing with me. They were just as lovely as they looked! Very friendly staff - even though they were extremely busy, none of the many staff looked stressed. Calm and friendly, greeting people as they arrived and ensuring that they could be seated at a table. The cleanliness was outstanding throughout. I am not anti kids as I have several of my own but the noise was so great we were thinking of eating elsewhere. We eat out every day but this was terrible. Really wanted to love the food here but was pretty disappointing in reality...As we walked in we could see the lovely salads and homemade coleslaw accompanying the meals and were looking forward to our lunch. Lovely menu and all homemade food but service not great. We ordered the homemade quiche which for an additional charge you could get with chips. We asked to substitute chips with a jacket and pay any additional charge. Girl was slightly confused by this (which on face value, would seem to be a straight forward change request), but eventually decided it was ok and put it through. When she had passed orders to 'kitchen' a lady then came over and told us we 'couldn't have jackets with quiche as there weren't enough potatoes'... The lady behind in the queue then asked if they had run out of jackets as they were going to have them, to be told that wasn't the case but we couldn't have them with quiche as there weren't enough...Despite being slightly baffled, I explained calmly that we had paid extra and the girl who served us had agreed to the sale and she couldn't really 'refuse' to sell us them, but allow people behind to have them. Most bizarre and she wasn't very friendly, but we were eventually 'allowed' this off menu choice. When we received the food, the presentation was lovely and without doubt, the salad and coleslaw is lovely and fresh, but I would stick to cold food as they clearly have an issue with food temperature. Jackets were luke warm at best and whilst the quiche was undeniably tasty, it was warm in some places and completely cold in others.Coffee was mediocre and not hot enough and children's food was ok.All in all, not a great experience which was a shame as I think it has the potential to be lovely.Garden centre is lovely and big and Christmas 'stuff' is amazing but it's very cold so wrap up as if you're going to be outside!

From the time the waitress came out to say they where short staffed we knew it would be awfull. Terribly run, they have no idea what they are doing. You never tell customers you are short staffed whos running the place needs to be sacked. We waited and we waited and we watched meal after meal come out but no chips for us. Half hour for our drinks and eventually after we where forced to nearly go in the kitchen ourselves did we get our chips. Never again, my advice is to avoid at all costs unless you have all day to wait for your nothing special food. Felt so sorry for the waitresses, who ever was in charge you should be ashamed, your obviously out your depth.

Visited this morning with my 4 year old daughter to buy a few things in the garden centre and decided to have some cake and drinks. We shared the most delicious lemon cake I have ever had! My coffee was spot on! My daughter got just a fruit shoot as the milkshake price was a bit high, it was 'luxury milk shake' but at £3.50 it was too much knowing my daughter would likely not drink it all... Will be returning with my other kids to try the Ice Cream Parlour next time

First visit but not my last. Found this venue by searching TripAdvisor. Found that the venue was carefully hidden behind a housing estate but with lovely views out over fields. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. The food was fresh, ample portions and well presented. Prices were most reasonable. Lovely kids play area overlooked by the outdoor dining area. An excellent lunch and I can recommend the Ploughman's Platter. Must be very healthy and happy ploughmen in Cottingham!

Lovely cafe. Our 2 year old loved all the toys, we enjoyed a coffee and sitting in the sunshine was a bonus. The little barn, in the carpark, was nice too- our son enjoyed seeing the goats, duck, pig etc. Their rocky road is the best ever- you have to try it to believe it!

Love going to Lucy's café within the garden centre at Southwoods. Because once you've eaten you can then shop! What better combination. My friends and family have been coming to Lucy's for years and it has now more than doubles its size but the food and service is as good as ever. My daughter loves the quiche which is homemade and everyday they offer a variety. I love the cakes, especially the coffee cake, I usually take slices of cakes home with me to enjoy later. They've now opened an ice cream bar with lots of different varieties and you can have various sundaes. The service is always excellent. You now order at the counter and the food is brought to your table. The café caters for children, toys books etc. are available, I'm already planning to bring my great granddaughter to have tea with Santa at Christmas. They do a pensioners lunch on Wednesdays, haven't sampled that yet! My favourite is the paninis which come served with a lovely salad. And speaking of pensioners is 10% off in the shop on a Wednesday.

Have been here on numerous occasions and never disappointed. Since the extension it is even better. It was a very sunny day and we sat inside but next to the open bifold doors, so got plenty of fresh air and a bit of sun. Great play area for kids and views across to the Humber Bridge. It was packed but it was pensioners day, so had to wait for our sandwiches/paninis but excellent , as usual. Well worth a visit.

We had a very nice weekday lunchtime meal with our grand-daughter. We were surprised how busy it was, especially with mums and children. There is a children's playground with wooden climbing tower/frame and plastic play-houses and slides to entertain the young ones. The main cafe seemed quite dark so we sat outside on the decking with the high-chair. We ended up moving to another table when the sun came out (short lived unfortunately) as our table did not have a parasol and a recently vacated table did. No-one came to clear the table so we did it ourselves and I used baby wipes to clean it before our meal arrived. You order and pay for the food inside and it is brought to your table when ready. We did not investigate the specials board but both ordered the scampi and chips with garden peas off the main menu and our toddler had beans on toast. All were very nicely cooked and tasty and we did not wait too long. The café has had an extension built since we were last there and I believe it has toilets now but we did not use them. There are French windows from the extension onto the decking so it is quite bright and open on a nice day. The bill came to approx. £15 in total (we had free drinks with our Wednesday pensioners special). We will visit again I am sure as it is child friendly.

Called in for lunch. Menu had a decent range of dishes, plus a few specials. The cafe was fairly busy but food arrived quickly even though it was prepared to order. My young granddaughter and I were able to fill the short wait that we had by visiting the pleasant adventure playground next to the outside eating area. Food was very good and the staff were really friendly. The garden centre and cafe are of a decent size but more homely and relaxed than some of the chains.

A good spot for a pleasant lunch, has daily specials board and also several different quiche on offer. It has been much improved with the extension that includes toilet facilities. The approach to the garden centre is a little uninspiring but it is worth a visit, there is a small area with animals that my grandchildren love to visit, they also love the play area which is fenced off and accessible through the cafe.

As you drive in, this place looks dull, & boring, big grey sheds. DO NOT DRIVE AWAY!! Venture in and be amazed. A very large Garden Centre, well laid out, with lots of interesting products. But, we had come for lunch, so we went into Lucy's. Nice large seating area, with indoor play area for kids, and a large one outside the side door. Handy when you have restless child with you, as we did. We ordered our meals, but were told our choices from Specials Board, had run out. OK, but a damp cloth, to update the board, would have been good, as it was unchanged 2 hours later!! But that is a niggle. Our revised choices, arrived within good time, and were enjoyed by all, & the child meal for our 18 month Grandson, was soon devoured. The food was of good quality, well presented, & tasted good. Prices were reasonable, & staff very helpful. I was tempted to knock the score down to very good, due to the sheds, & the Specials Board, but the food quality, & helpful staff, prevented me.

I needed some gardening items so popped along to Southwood garden centre, while we were browsing plants etc . we decided to have a coffee in Lucys coffee shop which is part of the garden centre. We could see customers eating Sunday lunch so I thought why not have one each. I won't have to cook for us -so more time in the garden. So glad we did, we had a huge, delicious home made Sunday lunch with fresh veg for a reasonable price, in fact we liked it so much we went back a few weeks later just for lunch. There is a nice outside patio area with a childrens play area. It does get quite busy on Sunday but we always managed to find a table.

Although we didn't have anything to eat, other tables did, it looked delicious and their plates were empty X

This was my wife and I's second visit since the new extension. We always like to come here for a snack, as the service is very good and the food tasty. There is usually something new and interesting on the specials board and this time I was nearly tempted by the chicken fajitas but instead plumped for the cream cheese and smoked salmon bagel, which was very nice. My wife was happy with her choice as well, so we are looking forward to our next visit.

Have visited here lots of times over the past few years & usually enjoy a nice snack & hot drink. However, popped in for coffee & cake at a relatively quiet time but were only served with our cakes/scones. After waiting some time, we mentioned to staff that we had not received our drinks but still nothing arrived. After 40 minutes (half hour after eating & feeling pretty parched) we paid and left. There were not that many customers & plenty of staff so no real excuse for this. They just didn't seem bothered & when we pointed this out (so we didn't end up paying for drinks we hadn't had) they didn't even apologise. Did not feel that our loyal custom was appreciated at all and we won't be returning.

We went on a quiet Sunday afternoon out of season because the previous review said they allowed the dog to go inside. I asked if we could take the pup in and sit out of the way in the corner. The lady said no sorry I don’t allow dogs in at all.

We had lunch at The Potting Shed with family. This was a return visit, and we think it’s the best garden centre restaurant in the area. Soup was carrot and coriander (delicious, could’ve eaten more!), sandwiches were very fresh, and the haddock and chips were delicious. Restaurant is very clean and well laid out, tables not too close together. I’m sure we’ll be back!
