Lovage Jesmond in Newcastle upon Tyne

Visited this beautiful restaurant for the first time last night and had a fantastic meal. The service was absolutely excellent too. The menu offers an amazing selection of locally sourced produce, cooked to perfection! Thoroughly recommend the lobster starter and the venison main course! Every detail about the presentation was superb and meticulously constructed. There was an excellent wine list to choose from, with a good selection of wines served by the glass as well which makes a change from only offering ‘house wine’! The ambience in the restaurant was warm and inviting but with a modern contemporary decor. A wonderful evening - we will be back!

We were on the waitlist and got our booking accepted last minute, so I guess that’s why we were seated at a table that was very close to the kitchen, right next to the stairs leading down to the toilets. We could see and hear the staff washing dishes throughout our entire dinner, which was very distracting and off-putting. I wish they hadn’t accepted our booking, and we could have gone there another time, sitting at a proper table—especially because it was my birthday. It was a Friday night, so I can understand it was busy, but we had higher expectations. Considering the service we received, it was definitely overpriced. The pistachio tiramisu was really good. We found some of the ingredients too salty, like the yogurt that came with the fritters. I’d love to give this place a second chance, but probably on a weekday when it’s less busy…

I can't speak highly enough about this place! I went on my birthday and they even surprised me with a birthday candle on my dessert. So service was exceptional just for that but everyone was very friendly and willing to help throughout the night. The food was divine! I had the duck as a main and the chocolate dessert and both were mouth watering! Highly recommended!

What an amazing restaurant! We visited for an early valentine's meal on a Saturday evening and were greeted by fantastic staff and even better food. The scallops & pig cheek combined with pardon peppers was a great starter, followed by John Dory fish and iberico pork for mains. All absolutely beautiful, some of the best food I've ever had. The highlight for me was the dark chocolate delice for dessert. We'll definitely be back!

It really was Lovage at first sight. I have wanted to visit Lovage since hearing about it a year ago and I am already dreaming about a return visit. It was the perfect location for a catch up with friends. The restaurant feels so lovely and welcoming and you instantly feel at home. We had amazing service from really knowledgeable people - a perfect balance of professionalism and passion. They helped guide our menu choices for food and drink, which we definitely needed as the menu covers everything you could want with so much choice. Our group chose oysters to start and although they aren’t my thing, one of our party is a big fan and said they were fantastic. We also had focaccia which was one of the best I’ve had, paired with Albanian olive oil hand pressed by the owners. If this isn’t a sign of a labour of love, I don’t know what is! We then had burrata, crab and tuna tartar to start. We chose sirloin steak and venison for main and both were incredible. Cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. With zero room for dessert, after looking at the menu we couldn’t not! The chocolate delice was incredible and the cheese board was a big hit. Everything we had was an absolute treat. The wine suggestions were also spot on and the cocktail list is great too. Also plenty of non alcoholic options for the drivers. All in all, an amazing experience and we can’t wait to go back. Thank you so much for bringing your passion and skill to the table for us all to enjoy.

Disappointing. Service was slow, we waited 5 minutes to be seated despite booking and waited another 15 minutes before being offered a drink. Food was all very well cooked and presented but a bit bland. Really nice decor but we won't be back.

First visit and will definitely return. Such a lovely evening with great food, service and atmosphere. Loved the seasonal, locally sourced menu. Wine and cocktails were great too. One of the best restaurants in Newcastle!

Visited on Sunday for Sunday lunch with my family, the customer service was lovely , very engaging . The owner was super welcoming and she made us feel very comfortable! Sunday roast was very tasty. Meat succulent ! Had a great atmosphere, felt very cosy and personable! Thankyou we will be back again.

I visited Lovage for the second time, and I was not disappointed. I spent a lovely evening with my friends who were there for the first time. The dishes, as usual, were delicious, from snacks, starters and main courses to desserts. For a starter, I had pig cheeks with breaded oyster and salmon caviar. The main one was duck, my favorite dish. I was not disappointed, delicate, juicy, golden skin. The additions of carrots glazed with honey, chicory and poached plums went perfectly with the queen of the plate. Additionally, the red wine sauce finished this dish perfectly. The dessert is a poetry of taste - tiramisu, unfortunately I didn't have time to take a photo because I devoured it in the blink of an eye. I had a chocolate and orange cocktail to wipe away my tears. All this was topped with a wonderful atmosphere and service that made us feel special. I will definitely go back there soon.

Wonderful Sunday Lunch in this fantastic new restaurant in the North East. We loved it so much we have booked for Christmas Dinner! Chilled vibe, great staff! X

First time at this restaurant with my daughter & I don’t think it will be the last . What a lovely place , staff were lovely & very helpful - fab food - my starter of Italian figs, prosciutto etc was fabulous - as was my main course of venison . My daughters starter of cauliflower & spinach fritters followed by monkfish was equally enjoyed . The deserts were fab & the cocktails 💋💋Altogether a very enjoyable evening .

Interesting restaurant, one of the good ones in the area. Value for money is good, though there's an impeding feeling that this place started on the right note and became "overrated" if slightly. I like the ambience and the service is good, so I will return, based on the couple times I visited. Last time, though, I noticed there were many waiters/waitresses (5 or 6 waiting for orders looking baffled and confused) and this indicates some issues with room mgmt (not knowing where to go next and what to do, even though clients were staring at them, waiting to be served). The food is well conceived and good quality, yet feels 'average' sometimes for price tag; the wine is better priced, I'd say, as is the dessert menu. I was told one item on the menu wasn't on offer, then my 2nd choice wasn't avail either, bc we had the wrong menu. Since I was already drinking red wine, I went with my husbands' meat order which would not have been my 1st or 2nd choice. Hospitality is a tough business: to get good ingredients at inflated prices and well trained staff won't be easy, I reckon! One thing that needs to be brought to the attention of Chef and the kitchen staff is that the olive oil (or oils) being used are 'corked up' (this can happen if left in contact with air too long or under heat and light). The mint/oil sauce placed on the puree tasted of this, so did the croutons and a gratin I tasted. My family used to have a tiny land patch where they produce olive oil and I can vouch yours needs throwing out and replacement, asap. I will be back to check in on this, no doubt, as I appreciate this restaurant a lot, overall.

3rd visit to this little beauty of a restaurant, the food is to die for, Kleo the chef is not only a food expert but along with his wife Lisa is an absolute champion as a people’s person. As front of house Lisa is as professional as Kleo is a chef. It’s an absolute must to pay them a visit before they move up to the next level. This was my last night in Newcastle so I wanted to have a really lovely meal......and Lovage Jesmond didn't disappoint. Absolutely beautiful food, I only had two small plates..... lobster ravioli and courgette flower, and both dishes were amazing, full of flavour and looked stunning....then a treat for dessert, the dark chocolate delice and orange sorbet, just delightful and again, amazing flavours. The restaurant was beautiful and the service was second to none, lovely, knowledgeable staff and compliments to the chef 😊 Could not recommend this lovely restaurant enough. I shall definitely be back when I next visit Newcastle!

The atmosphere at Lovage is wonderful, we felt relaxed the minute we arrived and we were so well looked after throughout our meal. You get a real sense of passion and commitment from the whole team. We haven't been this excited about food in a very long time! From the very first bite we didn't want it to end. It's rare to find a restaurant that serves such delicious, exciting and authentic food in a relaxed and friendly surrounding. Go to Lovage, you won't be disappointed!

Sunday lunch was absolutely amazing. Excellent food, not just taste, but presentation as well. The front of house team were also very professional and accommodating. We’ve been meaning to review Lovage since it opened in September last year. We have visited as a couple and also with friends and family on a regular basis. The food and service has been nothing but excellent. Our most recent visit included a starter of lobster with fennel salad and lobster bisque which was outstanding. On the main dishes the wild halibut and sirloin steak are particularly recommended. They also have an excellent vegetarian / vegan menu. Lisa is front of house and a fantastic host, and Leo produces Michelin standard food. The rest of the team make this a relaxed, but professional dining experience. Highly recommended.

Dined at this restaurant whilst visiting family who live in the area. I had looked at their menu (and prices) prior to the visit and felt that they had set themselves quite a high bar. If you are paying £37 for a monkfish main course then it really has to be good. I am pleased to say that all of the dishes we ordered (small plates and mains) were excellent. The halibut, monkfish and duck were superb quality and perfectly cooked, and portions were generous. The atmosphere in the restaurant was lively, as everyone was obviously enjoying their meals, and service was friendly and helpful. My only negative comment relates to the cost of the bottle of wine. We still enjoyed the evening because the food was so good, but £37 for the Primitivo was really too much.

Stunning food and exceptional value. The atmosphere is very relaxed but committed to making sure the guests are getting good service. Highly recommend this Jesmond gem. Oysters were too hard to resist before taking a photo. Short rib was delicious and the hispy cabbage was out of this world. My Dad had the sardines which were also delicious. Everything beautifully plated.

Different food. Good fish. Exquisite attention. The soft shell crabs and lobster ravioli are wonderful.

Friendly welcome to a lovely restaurant. Started with cocktails both excellent. My octopus starter was superb and very well presented as was my wife lobster ravioli starter. Although this is very much a fine dining menu a bit plus for me was the portion size. You definitely get a lot for your money. I had the duck which was delicious my wife had steak both were cooked perfectly. I finished with the chocolate delice which was rich and decadent. I have booked again for Sunday lunch I expect it will be every bit as good as the dinner experience.

I recently dined at what I can confidently say is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel welcome and comfortable. The décor was beautiful, creating a peaceful and inviting atmosphere that was perfect for enjoying a delicious meal. But it was the food that absolutely blew me away. The chef is a true artist, able to create bespoke dishes that were simply incredible. Every bite was full of flavor and perfectly cooked. I was particularly impressed with the vegan menu, which had a wide variety of options with ingredients grown in the chef’s own garden. And, to top it all off, the desserts were irresistible. But it wasn’t just the food that impressed me. The service was some of the best I’ve ever experienced. The waitstaff was knowledgeable and attentive, making sure that everything was perfect throughout the meal. It was clear that they were passionate about the restaurant and dedicated to making sure that every guest had a truly unforgettable experience. Overall, I can’t recommend this restaurant enough. Great spot with very friendly staff and an ever changing menu. Lots of seasonal ingredients which always makes it interesting. We visited this time for Sunday Lunch. Unfortunately they had run out of my first choice starter (lobster), but the aranchini was great. Good quality main dish of beef, but I did feel they portion size was a bit small - light on veg and a single roast potato was disappointing. Overall good, but not quite 5 stars.

My fiancé and i visited in Wednesday evening, the ambiance as we stepped in was welcoming and relaxed. Beautiful decor and fantastic service by Andrew and Shefali. The food was outstanding, i had the monkfish on the bone and the lobster ravioli it was the best seafood i have ever eaten. Fresh caught and prepared that morning, beautiful presentation. I would highly recommend to dine here as it is now our favourite establishment. Everything was perfect from start to finish and we had a really lovely night.

I'm always looking for a new top Sunday Dinner spot in Newcastle. This was nice, but didn't quite hit the mark. We had the oysters to start. The oysters themselves were beautiful, really fresh. The bloody mary granita was a bit jarring though, the texture didn't quite work for us. The starters were lovely, probably the best part of the meal and I think we'd be likely to go back for the normal menu and order a few of these as small plates. The beef on the roast was unreal. Probably the best roast beef I've had in a long time. Unfortunately, just as big a part of the roast dinner is the veg and these just didn't quite hit the mark. The best part was a charred cabbage which was delicious and quite unexpected. The rest of the veg was really bog standard, the mash was a bit tastless and the gravy was okay Not the new Sunday Dinner spot we were looking for, but some lovely ideas and flavours elsewhere

We have visited Lovage on a number of occasions, we have never been disappointed. The food and service is excellent and it has become one of our favourite restaurants. We love it!

Greatly enjoyed a special occasion meal here. There was no issue with street parking near the restaurant. The food was delicious especially the lobster ravioli as other reviews have mentioned. Steak and chips was also highly rated by my date. The service was to an excellent standard and we felt very welcomed. We would love to return again sometime soon. Pricing is very fair for what you receive in quality and taste. This restaurant has a high integrity feel that is appreciated among other options at this price point in the Newcastle area.

It was delicious. Fresh ingredients, pasta freshly made and the fish was fried to perfection. Of course we also ordered desserts. Honey mascaropone has since become my favorite dessert. Light, fresh ingredients, insane in taste. My friends had chocolate decile which melted in the mouth. This visit was a culinary adventure beyond words. You must visit this restaurant. Changed our table from a 2 to 4 without hesitation over phone- thank you. Sat on large table next to kitchen- smelled of the raw fish/food in the kitchen and then got smokey. Told we couldn’t move, but then promptly changed our table when told it was aggravating asthma. Cod cheeks were very generic Captain Birdseye. Nothing special & a bit disappointing. Unreasonably long wait between courses. Had to ask twice. Was told candidly, but not impolitely that we had ‘our answer the first time’ when we asked to check on the food again. People arriving after us had their food before us. Duck- nice tasting but shame wasn’t warm. Didn’t want to wait again so just ate it. Portions- small for the cost. Chips- best bit. But that’s the easy stuff! Shame as such lovely reviews otherwise. Guess just wasn’t our evening. Wasn’t bad by any means. Just not great.

We went on a Sunday and ordered all of the starters instead of the Sunday lunch. Every dish was incredible, especially the lobster ravioli and burrata. Service, food, wine and atmosphere were all 10/10 and they even let us bring our dog. Cannot recommend enough!

We went here for our Anniversary and Valentines Day and it was perfect. The food was exceptional, the service was great and it was just an overall positive atmosphere. We would definitely recommend and we will be going back!

A gem of a place - amazing food, calm and stylish interior, a lovely welcome

First visit , for Valentines Day, and we had delicious and imaginative food, Especially enjoyed talking to the chef / owner and his wife. A busy evening for them but we were treated well by the Lisa and Leo and their staff. My partner is a vegetarian and we both had carefully prepared dishes. Table no 10

Good food. Reasonable prices. Down to earth vibe. Some staff are quite new, but they’re friendly, which gives the place a rare homely feel. The (relatively) locally sourced ingredients are the stars of the show. It’s not pretentious, the plates are well presented and the prices are quite reasonable - with mains in the £20-30 range with small plates £8-10. Five small plates provides a fair sized dinner for two people and I enjoyed the sardines and the arancini. Tiramisu 👌 Will be returning to take on some of the larger plates.

What a beautiful gem of a restautant! We went for a New Years Eve lunch with our little 18 month old girl and had the most fabulous time. The decor and every detail of the interior is beautiful and carefully chosen. The food was divine and very reasonably priced. The best meal out we’ve had for ages! Couldn’t even say which dish we enjoyed the most as they were all so nice. They were also very accommodating given we had a toddler with us! Thank you :)
