lotus Beijing & Cantonese in Thurrock

As I walked in, already greeted by a young man! Bright smile all the time, even quickly moving out from behind the reception and opening the door widely to let a electric scooter driven by a pensioner into the shop, very helpful. After we ordered, received a voucher and he explained to us what it’s about, shortly our foods is ready and we noticed free crackers as well, if you ordered over £20. Everything freshly cooked in an open kitchen, quickly and professionally. My favorite Wall Siu Chicken was lovely, sweet chili sauce over sliced chicken breast meat. Definitely worth recommending this place. Service is second to none!

Always rated this place, spotless and food while not amazing was decent quality. Now it is just a dump, had wide ranging takeaway and almost all of it was binned after a few mouthfuls. Not picky eaters but this was simply awful food. Angry we wasted our Friday night dinner on this horrible place.

I have been using this take away now ever since it opened, the quality and taste of the food was second to none, and I have never had any reason to complain about the food which was always fantastic and fresh tasting. Lotus Chinese take away was undoubtedly once, one of the best Chinese take always in the Thurrock area and to me has now lost all its credibility, which i personally think is all due to the new owner trying to save money. Since the take away has changed hands i think around mid 2019 and after several visits since, the food on each and every occasion has become pretty deplorable and I am afraid after tonight’s visit spending over £50, it is and will be my last ever visit to this take away and would never ever recommend it ever again to anyone else, as the meal was disgusting and the worst i have ever had from there, my whole family all said how bad it was and the taste was not like it used to be.... The prices have increased alarmingly, yet the quality and taste has somewhat deteriorated with substituted products of very poor quality and indeed taste.... They have changed the special fried rice and instead of putting in Chinese pork reddish in colour which added taste to the rice, it has been substituted by what looks like pork luncheon meat (spam) and tasted absolutely horrid soft and squidgy, and with minimal strips of chopped chicken and no little shrimps like the old owner used to, that along with only 6 peas yes 6 pea's in the whole container and 8 in another is an absolute bloody joke. Then the sweet n sour King Prawn balls, seem to have shrunk to small prawns and they were far to overcooked which made not only the batter far to crispyand slightly burnt, but the prawns inside were hard and dry as were the vegetarian spring rolls, more pastry then any veggies found inside like they used to be….Rarely do I ever complain, but this time I feel it is justified and literally everything we had tonight was of very very poor quality and indeed lacked taste and was definitely not worth the money paid for it... When food is good I compliment the restaurant/take away and would promote it to family and friends, so as for “Lotus Chinese” take away” a big thumbs down and goodbye. I doubt very much if the owner will read this or indeed take note, but unless you start to change what you have done, then I am afraid you will lose more and more customers who like myself will look elsewhere for better food reasonably priced and not with substituted poor quality spam…Anyone looking for decent Chinese food, my advice go elsewhere!

Excellent Chinese Food ! Best Chinese I've had in ages would recommend to anyone in the area, reasonable price and amazing food

This is a very nice Chinese very busy don’t do delivery which is a shame. Food is tasty. Quick to order nice little extras if you order over certain amounts friendly staff fairly priced.

This previously was arguably one of the best Chinese takeaways in thurrock. Tonights quality however without putting too finer point on it, was awful. The hot and sour soup was a cheap gravy filled with raw chillis, the vegetables in the sea salt dish were under cooked, the chicken with spring onion and ginger was of poor quality and extremely tough. What’s happened to our favourite takeaway. A bad night, change of ownership or judging by a previous review a marked and permanent deterioration of food quality and cooking skills.

I’ve used this takeaway for 6 years, it WAS the best around. Over the last couple of months it’s steadily got worse, it’s become tasteless soft mush. I’m sure tonight’s noodles were last nights re heated, and the curry sauce.... to say it was tasteless is an understatement, it was along the taste lines of bisto’s granulated curry sauce. It’s a shame as the staff are great but I didn’t even finish mine last night. It’ll be a while before I eat there again. Won’t hurt I could do with losing a few lbs.

People have been recommends the takeaway for years, but we never used them because they do not deliver. Well, more fool us because we have just eaten our first meal from here and it was delicious and well worth having to go and collect it! We have tried several Chinese takeaways in this area and this is by far the best. It tasted as if it was cooked fresh, not salty and not so ‘heavy’. I recommend the Shredded Crispy Beef with Chilli.
