Absolutely disgusting food 🤢 first and last time paying for the worst Chinese food I have ever had, so bad I'm leaving a review. I never leave a review but this terrible experience needs to be shared to warn others of how bad this place is. Ordered crispy shredded beef chicken chow mein, beef and black bean sauce, salt and pepper ribs with egg fried rice, not one dish was edible the whole lot has gone in the bin. Honestly this was so bad I'm amazed anyone would go back to this place for food. NEVER AGAIN

Absolutely horrendous! Staff was extremely rude. One of the staff rushed my order and didn’t bother giving me options of how I like my food (spicy or plain which is usually spicy ). And it looked very different this time. It was plain fried rice which I never get. I tried explaining it to the staff who works at the front. She had no patient with me. She didn’t refund me or bother to give me an option to remake the food. She said something in her language to her friend thinking I didn’t understand. She was talking behind my back. She also said she doesn’t need to give me any options because I should have known. Irony is she works at the restaurant who knows the menu inside out. All the staff are kind except that one staff who works at the front. Not sure if she is new. Unfortunately I am never coming back to this restaurant. Disgusting behaviour towards their regular customers. No one should be treated like this. We live in a respectable community and I lived here for a while. Never had an awful customer experience.

Well this is our favourite Chinese. The lovely lady always cheerful and always remembers me and my partner. She knows what we like and has never got our order wrong. We do always get take away and it’s always ready quickly. Lovely and hot and very tasty. This is by far the best in the area and we’ve tried a few.

Fantastic food over and over again. Normally eat in the restaurant but have recently had takeaway and still fantastic quality. Friends we have taken to eat in also say it is the best Chinese food they have ever eaten. Staff really nice and polite and excellent value for money. Would not get my Chinese any where else.

The menu choice was excellent and the portions were plentiful. Our choices were tasty and well cooked. Our meals were all served by a polite and attentive waitress.

I regularly order from happy house as this is probably the best in the area. I have never eaten in the restaurant but the take away food is always lovely.

Ordered Chinese last night from here as I have done before. Since it has reopened all I can say is how disappointing it was. First off it was expensive for what you get. Most Chinese takeaways round here you get rice with your curry. Ordered and paid for a large chicken fried rice for my two kids to share yet It was the same size as my egg fries rice. Beef curry was so chewy that I couldn't eat it. Roast pork chowmein tasted horrible. Chicken balls were chewy too and even the chips were rank and some not even cooked properly. Spent over £35 for a disgusting Chinese. Wont be ordering from here again.

Lovely local Chinese restaurant

We usually do take out as we live 20 minutes away but tonight fancied an eat in and we were not disappointed. Lovely meal as usual with very accommodating staff. Extremely good with our little man. Thank you

OMG, I'm totally shocked. The manager was totally rude. An elderly gentleman entered the restaurant at 10pm asked If he could order a meal. instead of the manager saying of course take a seat etc etc. She said we close at 10.30 you can have 1 course. Omg how rude. A nearby table were totally shocked on how this gentleman was treated. He did worry because he had booked his taxi for 11.30. They helped him telephone to change the time he would be collected. This gentleman said wow my wife and I (whom died in February,) would come here often we knew the owners Ray and Maria and even the grandparents. This used to be called The Happy House. What Happened. I totally agree, the food isn't all that good either. The atmosphere in there is not nice. She clearly doesn't want to be there. She can't wait to close the blinds when you leave. Would never have happened when Ray was there. Wouldnt matter what time it was Ray made you feel welcome. Won't go back, this really effected me tonight, how this Gentleman was treated.

The service was poor. Our side dishes and main dishes were being served up at different times. One of our guests hadn’t received her main meal, we asked and the abrupt response ‘what did she order’ and we told her, she then said ‘oh yeah, that’s coming’ – which wouldn’t be that bad but by the time she did receive her main dish most of us had eaten half of our meals – no apologies from the waitress. When we booked I said it would be 6 people and possibly a seventh. The man said no problem could we come to the restaurant and pay £60.00 deposit. When I attended to pay the deposit the lady took £70.00, which wasn’t a problem as this is deducted from our bill anyway. A party of four people came in, sat down, no one attended their table and they left about 10-15 minutes later. There was a very nice lady and gentleman sitting on the table next to us, they were in the restaurant when we arrived, but they did not receive their meals until after we had received ours. The food was okay, no way near worth what they charged for it to be honest. The service and attitude of the staff (well the one waitress who seemed to be doing everything) was poor. We felt that we couldn’t ask her anything as when she responded she was very abrupt in her manner. My husband asked her for chop sticks and she just ignored him and walked away. Only 6 of us actually attended the restaurant. When we received our bill, we noticed only £60.00 had been taken off for the deposit. When we asked the waitress she said, ‘Manager said as other person didn’t come then £10.00 deposit non-returnable’. This was a shock to us as we had spent nearly £200.00 in the restaurant that night and at no time when I was asked to pay a deposit was I told it was non-refundable because quite frankly I wouldn’t have booked and would have gone somewhere else. When my husband protested to her and told her of his disappointment she just brushed him off. Said she would tell her manager and then just kept saying ‘thank you, have a nice evening’ which is very very patronising and extremely poor customer service. We will never eat in or order food from this restaurant again and have advised friends and family of our experience, which is unfortunate because a number of our friends have used this restaurant and actually recommended it to us.

We hadn't intentionally visited here we were going to another restaurant which was shut. We passed this on the way home and decided to give it a try. It's clean the food is hot an fresh and the staff were very friendly. I would definately recommend this as a place to go and I'm sure we will visit again in the future.

We are out of the delivery area for this Chinese restaurant but we drive here to collect our takeaway. Lovely, tasty hot food, quick response time to takeaway orders,10% off for cash payment on collection orders and efficient staff who know my name. This is the only Chinese we use now. Great!

Definitely the best Chinese food i have ever had. We normally have a take away and it arrives quicker than they say. We also go in for a sit down meal. Big portions and really friendly staff. You must try it.

Went there for a family meal to celebrate my son's birthday, there were 6 of us. I had 3 dishes from the a la carte menu and the rest of the family ordered the set meal for 5 people at £21.50 per person. Everything was OK until the "main" courses arrived for the set meal. The amount of food we got was pathetic - one beef dish, one prawn dish, one chicken dish and 3 dishes of rice between 5 people. There were so few prawns that we basically got one each ! When the waitress came over we complained and were told that as they had given us large portions, this was OK. We complained again and they eventually came out with 3 more dishes, making it enough for the 5 people. We have been to this restaurant many times before and never had a problem like this - they appear to be cutting down on the portions to save money (lots of vegetables & not much meat) - not happy when you are paying premium prices.

Excellent definitely recommend. Everything at the right pace and good to boot.

As a restaurant it is a bit expensive but very good and consider it worth it. They also provide a take-away service which is great and which I have used quite a few times.

Not enough food to feed everyone. Prawn balls weren’t prawn balls and the kung po chicken was not very flavourful at all. Not coming here again sorry.

Been a while since last visited The Happy House but always a warm welcome from boss Ray Wong. Food and service very good with prices just being above average. It is the drinks that also push up the cost but still worth a visit.

Just had dinner at the Happy House Chinese restaurant for the first time, and my husband and I are well impressed! A small, intimate place, the food was first class as was the service. It was lovely not being rushed through the meal as some places make you feel, in fact we were asked if we were ready for our main courses. Liked the double layer tablecloths of snowy white linen, and the discreet music too!

This restaurant has between 200 -300 hundred takeaway orders a week my wife and I have been coming here for years. The food is first class. I would say this is the best Chinese restaurant with in miles. I've been to so many chinese restaurants and this restaurant beats them all. Staff are very welcoming. First class service and the clientele iber the years in this restaurant is excellent. People that read negative comments on TripAdvisor about this restaurant need to pay a visit and judge for themselves. They won't be disappointed.

Reply to Natalie B I'm shocked you are saying this about this restaurant. My husband and I have been coming to the Happy House for years the food is first class. We have tried many other chinese restaurant but you will never beat this one. Food, Staff and service First class.

Nice friendly staff, but thought the food portions were small and very over priced, soft drinks were flat.

The food is of a decent standard but the take away delivery times are terrible....30 mins late is considered acceptable to the manager who is constantly surprised that the restaurant is busy on a Friday and Saturday night.

Found staff to be rude over the phone and they just put the phone down after they found out the road my nan was in

If you are looking for a good Chinese then look no further Happy House is the best around the food is first class. Very welcoming staff there is not a dish you won't enjoy very good prices. a must visit Excellent first class you won't be disappointed.

Very pleasantly surprised at the ambience and quality of food in this small restaurant. Ideal place for an evening out with friends.

Had a takeaway from here as it was late and others were closed. The restaurant was empty so the order was taken quickly and food cooked straight away. Very much usual Chinese fayre at a good price.

I have used this place for 3 years and it pains me to admit that the food is just awful now. It's expensive and refuses to take card payment.

Went to this restaurant for the first time on Tuesday evening. Had to ask if it was open as it was completely empty. Ordered starters and they bought mine first. Told my husband his was on it's way. It took 10 minutes for his to finally arrive. I asked for some fish sauce only to be told by a very arrogant man that they didn't have any and that the dish had lots of flavour so didn't need it! I asked the lady for some soy sauce instead. The food was very bland and tasteless. Even for our main meals we had to add plenty of salt to get any taste. The boiled rice was stale and an off colour. I had to ask for some chilli oil for my black bean sauce as they forgot to put any in the dish as stated on their menu. Everything was too much trouble for them even getting me a knife. They had a sign in the window stating they were open 7 days a week. All I can say is that hopefully someone will take over the restaurant who knows what they are doing. If we could leave no stars we would as even giving 1 is too much. We couldn't wait to get out of there!

I booked this restaurant for a friends 70th at the beginning of September all was ok name taken phone no given and time and date confirmed. Booking was was for 23rd you can imagine my anger when i turned up on the date to find that it was closed and had been for at least 2 weeks. No reason on the door. I got no phone call to advise of the closure which you would think they would have known about its not something you suddenly do. I can only summise the reasons for the closure but will definitely not be returning. Grateful to the pan oriental in chafford who saved the day.

Friendly local restaurant with good lemon chicken 🍗

Ordered a delivery, but as they were busy elected to pick it up to help ease pressure. When we got home there was 2 items missing. We rang to get them delivered to us. We got shouted down the phone by the manager saying that their driver was there. As we were standing outside the flat we knew that wasn't true. After 30 minutes of tooing and throwing we finally got a refund but only after having to go to the Chinese 3 times and having the driver out twice. Still with an incomplete order. We got shouted at over the phone, in a car park and in the Chinese by the manager. Would never go back and would advise no one else did either.

One of the best Chinese around. Can't do enough for you. And the food, it's just wow. We always go there because they never rush you. Once you sit at your table you can stay all night if you want.

I have been visiting happy house for years but will never order a take away again. I paid almost £30 for cold food which took almost 2 hours. Lovely food, just a shame about the service and the temperature. I was offered no apology apart from that it was busy

Newly decor look nice, Food was average for a Chinese in this area. We had aromatic crispy duck like this one, it was good! The egg fried rice was fine, service was alright.

Usual chinese fayre in average surroundings. Dishes aren't priced badly by you get caned on the drinks.

Having stumbled across Happy House a few weeks back I've dined in a couple of times and had takeaway once. The food has been excellent everytime. The food has been made (it would appear) with fresh ingredients every time and the sauces don't have that gluggy plastic taste of a few other local takeaways

Decided to go to happy house for a sit down Chinese. Nice and clean place, and great menu. Food was lovely, and served with a smile. My only criticism of happy house was cause it was so busy, the only waitress was run off her feet, and we had to wait a while for our drinks. All in all a great place.

have been a few times have not been since they refurbished i think the menu is the same.cannot eat Chinese or spicy foods i now have a intolerance to spicy foods. but i used to like going there and enjoyed the food.

we were going to visit The Ocean Chinese Chalkwell.but we decided to drop into this establishment as is closer to our home ...it has been recently refurbished and looks very nice .the food was mmmm just above average no real complaints about food ,i do like my wine cold ,whilst the wine was chilled my wife and I like to have a bottle of wine chilling in an ice bucket .My pet hate is those so called wine chillers !!!as usefull as a chocolate mouse trap...so was slightly dissapointed when they couldn't rustle up a ice bucket of any kind and had to have bottle of wine in this plastic cooler that wasn't even cold..to finnish of the bill came in slightly more expensive than expected ...

It has been closed for refurbishment, unsure what they have done as front of house is now clinical, bare and without atmosphere.Bright lights, wooden floor and bare walls make the main room noisy and unbearable, conversations from other tables boom around the room, footsteps spoil any chance of intimacy, old style toilets and wash rooms are still evident.Service is haphazard and clumsy. due to space, hot plates of food placed at angles of top of each other at the table, on collection empty plates collected carried quite precariously, cutlery dropped, the noise reverberating around the room.Food was tasty, good in fact, my wife enjoyed her meal, my starter and main course was cooked well, would we go back, no, would we have a takeaway from here yes....

They have just refurbished and I'm telling you the five weeks they were closed Grays area suffered for it in regards to good food but thankfully they are back with a vengeance. Venue looks great and the food is just as good maybe better. Price has gone up a little but still value for money in my eyes.

Happy House used to be the place to go, it really went down hill for a while and i stopped eating there,me and my girlfriend made an order for delivery today due to lack of a decent chinese in Grays, it was very good i`ll be ordering from here in future.

Rung to make an order on a Sunday night, lady seemed nice on the phone made my order and gave a phone number, 10mins later they rung my phone which was in my bag and couldn't hear, rung them back only for the lady to say the number didn't look right and wouldn't put my order through as my phone number looked dodgy and asked me why I hadn't answered my phone she was VERY RUDE!!!
