China Phoenix in Thurrock

Just spent nearly £30 in there and I can categorically say I've been robbed. Definitely one of the worst takeaways I've had. Had em from here before and they've been OK but this was truly atrocious put me off going back only ate half the other half went straight in the bin. Maybe have a word with the chef the food was bland tasteless and sweet and sour was dreadful. Avoid until they rethink chef situation

BEST AUTHENTIC CHINESE FOOD IN GRAYS!!! Since we found out about China Phoenix, we cannot order anywhere else. First of all, we wanted to try them because of their beef Ho Fun which nowhere else sell it and it is amazing. You can tell they make their food with love and dedication as it is always fresh, flavourful, hot and very packed. The boy on the phone is always very polite, helpful and friendly. No other Chinese food delivery tastes like this. Super recommended and our go to are the beef ho fun, nasi goreng, Hong Kong style sweet and sour chicken, sesame prawn toast, beef in black bean sauce and special chow mein. Defoo worth a try!!

The quality of food here is terrible I ordered three dishes come to over £20

We went to china pheonix for a meal and was disappointed. We were the only people in there although it was early , it was also very cold an unwelcoming, no tables were laid even though I had made a booking. The young waiter gave us a menu and took our order without saying a word. The food came up separately and was cold the starters came up last , we were asked to pay even though we hadn’t finished our drinks. Finally I went to the ladies room only to find it very dirty, toilet and basin needed a good bleach and lots of things stored there , no hand towel or dryer , will not be eating there again or recommending it to anyone.

We ordered from here as our usual takeaway was going to take an hour & 20 mins. When we called this place, they said an hour. The food turned up an hour & a half later. When I called to chase it up there was no apology for the delay. The chips were cold, crispy beef was soggy & chewy, the sweet & sour sauce was like water & none of it was hot. We wouldn’t we use again

So of the menu items are Good some not, very pricey. Hard to understand the younger boy. Fast for takeaway

Great place and we'll priced even with people struggling with the bills. I have been to other Chinese restaurants in Stanford le hope and has dropped a lot in quality and quantity, these recipes are original. I have recommended them to family and friends over the years and even if the have moved they always order from this great place. Keep it up China Phoenix 🇨🇳 👏🏼 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Very disappointed realy not sure how this place is open the chief is cooking in baseball and puffa jacket! The adults in the kitchen left the poor girl to serve 10 people on her own there is still a christmas tree in window.the toilets are filthy and not fit for customer use looks like sink hasn't been cleaned and scrubbed same as bathroom for years I wouldn't allow my dog to eat there!

I ordered duck fried rice with gravy got the wrong when I called to complain I was told I have to come down to pick up another one after paying extra 2 pounds for delivery

Terrible, I got a special chow neon, got 1 prawn, 3 prices of chicken, the rest noodles, not even a bit of onion, I called them they was so rude, said because food has gone up, terrible terrible Chinese, never again.

After 2hrs still no food called them and was told they would call the driver and call me back that never happened either. Go elsewhere

I am happy with the food But toilets dirty and disgusting Loads of cleaning products in the toilets Try using them I did not even want to turn the light switch off as it was so dirty some bleach down the pan would go a long way clean sink and taps would be nice Maybe that would get rid of the smell they are truly the worst toilets I have seen Sort it Out I will not embarrass you further by posting photos

I had a set meal for 2 C the food was fresh and delicious 😋 it cost £14.50 what is great value for money I highly recommend it. I will befinitely be using these from now on 😋😋😋😋😋

This cosy little restaurant may look a bit underwhelming with it's basic decor and furnishings but the gift is in the delicious, freshly cooked food. We have never had a bad dish and always look forward to returning. Only soft drinks sold but you can take your own alcohol - glasses will be provided. Service from family run concern is warm, friendly and relaxed. I would recommend for family or friends or couples where you're able to enjoy your time unhurried while savouring the yummy food ...have a takeaway while lockdown is on so we can help our local businesses and keep this little gem ... We definitely don't want to lose it!

Long story short had mould on our pancakes what come with the duck was told to take back for a refund when I lady was going mad shouting off her head at me while there’s a table of four eating got my money back but she didn’t want to very rude lady FOOD WAS HORRIBLE RED CHICKEN WINGS ALSO DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY 😤😤😤

Went for a meal here, not sure if they want people to eat in, there are chairs and tables, but none laid up, no heating, and service not great, only a young girl, behind counter, answering phone, which seems to be ringing constantly, restaurant, looks tired and uninviting, needs a lick of paint , on looking at the menu, it was quite expensive, for such a shabby place, on the plus side, you can bring in your own alcohol, having ordered our meal, the food is tasty, just everything needs some tlc

Best Chinese in Grays we eat from here every week Never had a bad meal always quick with delivery with little freebies like prawn crackers never had to complain even when you eat there not great decor or furnishings but food delicious will only ever eat here now

To get a take away you need to order about an hour and 45 minutes before you want to eat as it takes ages to arrive. But when it does the food is lovely. If the delivery service could be a bit faster this take away would be perfect.

Been coming here for years, mainly for takeaway, but have "eaten in" twice. They pretty much know my order, and is always ready within the specified time for me to pick up. Tasty, hot, decent portion sizes. I won't go anywhere else; if they're closed I just don't have Chinese.

Over the years, many Chinese takeaways change their ingredients. This restaurant however, has never changed their authentic brilliancy, with regards to the quality of Chinese food they have to offer. I highly recommened China Phoenix as the first in choice, if you live locally to the area.

Reported a bad meal and was yelled in Chinese by the owner. They wanted the food, which was in the bin, to be returned to them. Rang up and was subjected to the chef yelling about me in Chinese for a few minutes. The customer is wrong in this instance apparently. Won't use them again

Place an order here at 17.57 order did not arrive until 18.10 even after being given a delivery time of 30-35mins phoned after an hour and still had to wait another 10mins... order was wrong when arrived and there reply was to delivery it next time... why would you order from there again when service and delivery is absolutely pants...and they can not get your order right... and then food like warm really do not recommend this place for a take away night.. and sauce on ribs like water.. Really not good at all... as said before pants do not order from here.

Always very fresh and delicious Chinese food. Very reasonable price and you bring your own alcohol with you, which makes it additionally attractive. Unfortunately, the deco is dated and old fashion. If some effort is made to modernise the site, business should be booming. Worth a visit. The owner will hire the restaurant out over the night for parties!!

All I can say is that this takeaway is one of the most reliable for quality of food in Grays. Good choice and price.

Always have our orders messed up, when i rung and complained i could hear them arguing in the background in mandarin over my complaint so i gave up with them and vowed never to order from them again try New World in Grays instead!

Standard Chinese menu but well cooked. We usually get our food delivered and that service is excellent. The restaurant is rather basic - don't take the other half if you're looking for somewhere romantic - but, if all you want is good food, this'll do fine. Very limited selection of alcoholic drinks.

the food is great value and even though our order got a bit muddled it was worth the wait . its great cause ya can take ya own drink and doesn't get too busy.. gorgeous food , full of flavour and deffo going back...

Have ordered takeaways form here on numerous occasions and ive always enjoyed it and would always say that's as good as any restaurant un beknown to me they actually was a restaurant. went last Saturday and the takeaway price was the same as eating in. The atmosphere is informal and the food superb. the bill came to 25 quid take your own wine. will be going back

Went to place an order with this restaurant as there food is normally pretty good, I paid by card to which a child had put through. They claim that my card had been declined. After this I had checked my bank account and money had been taken out.i called my bank to see where the money had gone, it was confirmed with an authorisation case from bank that they had taken my money. The restaurant had still claimed I had not paid for my order and would not accept authorisation from my bank to show I had. My order was cancelled and I now have to wait a week for the restaurant to claim my payment to be stopped by my bank. This restaurant has really poor customer service and refused to allow me talk to a manager.

First of all this Chinese is one of the best in the area...... but.... I was very very disappointed with the service I received today.... I ordered a home delivery and was quoted a price on the phone to which I gave over my card details to pay which was confirmed on the phone. When I received my food my receipt stated a different amount to which I paid for, also the delivery guy asked me to pay an extra £1.50 for delivery. I questioned this and was told that they had put the delivery charge into my bill and then processed my payment(without my knowledge). I explained that the driver had also stated that I needed to pay £1.50 cash. I also received two portions of the same item which I didn’t ask for but had been charged for... again without my knowledge. This was totally outrageous especially changing the amount and processing a payment without informing the customer first. To top it off they agreed to refund me the extra item and the delivery charge.... but.... I had to pay the driver £2 to bring the refund back to me.... absaloutly disgraceful..., advice is please double check your bill and amounts that get processed via card payments!!!!

Service not bad but when it arrived the order was wrong!! Phoned and told them and was offered to have the right order next time??? Husband said his was ok but not the same as it used to be ......... Will not be ordering again So disappointing

Food was good and very reasonably priced. Staff friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our meal and were very satisfied.

Been here several times for sitdown and takeaways. The food is always very good providing they get the order right which has gone wrong a couple of times. Sevice for sitdown can be a little slow even when restaurant is empty I guess they prioritise takeaways. Restaurant has inadequate heating so can be a bit cold in winter but they plug in an electric fire for you.No licence so bring your own drink they will supply glasses.

I have had several takeaways from this place and every time I have said "never again", only to keep giving them another chance. Last time was the final straw though. Not only was the order late, it was completely wrong. They got 2 out of 4 dishes wrong and it was absolutely disgusting. Since switched to the New World in Clarence Road which is really excellent.

Good, hot, freshly prepared Chinese takeaway food with a byob dine-in option. We've been going to this place for nearly ten years. It's changed hands a few times and we went off it for a year a couple of years ago due to suspected food poisoning but the new owners have brought it back to a good standard. The food is always hot, fresh, and tasty. There is a good menu. Sizzling dishes. They also do three kinds of dim sum. It's clean and basic. Basically they set up a take out but had enough room for some tables in the front. Best part is that you can bring your own booze and there's no corkage. Makes it a really reasonable meal out if you just want something casual on a Friday night but want to get out of the house. They do take out as well of course but we find it more fun to dine in their clean small front of house. Friendly owner who runs the place with his family. You always get free prawn crackers to start and a fortune cookie with the bill. Never had a bad one yet. Closed on Monday. Parking near by can be challenging.

Being a local the food is really good, chow mein to die for and dont forget to add the chillie oil its always been consistent.

in this restaurant, you have to bring your own alcohol, they supply glasses, and also bin the empties, with no charge, there is background music, but the phone is constantly ringing, and there is only one guy, who is serving, answering the phone and also serving people, who are coming in, for a takeaway, so if you're eating in, it could take quite a while, you are given a bowl of prawn crackers, while you peruse the menu, we decided on a set meal, and started with a plate of mixed starters ( spare ribs, sesame prawn toasts, seaweed, spring rolls, and satay chicken), which was quite nice and plentiful, next was duck and pancakes, which was delightful,my only criticism was that there was no water bowl, and you needed one, as it was quite messy, the last course was special fried rice, sizzling king prawns, honey chicken in a chilli sauce and beef and green peppers in a black bean sauce, all were hot and delicious, we asked for chopsticks, which we were duly bought, total cost for 2 people £30, you could spend less, by ordering your own dishes, another problem they have, is that there is no air conditioning, so summer, when it's hot, it unbearable, and winter it is cold in there, but they do put a small heater, near your table, if you're lucky,

Good food but the restaurant lacks atmosphere. There is no music and all you can here is the phone ringing and take away orders being taken.

Just had a take away first one never again food tasteless spring rolls soggy, seaweed soggy, chicken uncooked, dim sum soup no taste, could go on but won't read reviews as no decent chineses in Grays, people seem to like it they have not had...

Service was fast and very friendly, although did not receive a delivery time, also lemon chicken was still pink inside, and the beef in the beef chow neon was still red. Not happy about this.

Visited last Saturday with friends we all had a lovely meal. The food was hot and fresh with plenty of choice. The staff are very friendly and the service is good.You can take your own drinks as it is not licensed. It is very reasonable.Will be visiting again.

Be it a take away or sit down in the restaurant this is a great place to eat. We have had so many take always , always excellent but last time dropped in before a play. The staff are so friendly and the food fresh and tasty. I cannot recommend China Phoenix more highly and yes the prices are very competitive too. Thanks for such great service.

Don't let the décor put you off, nice and quite with fantastic fresh food. The service is friendly, but not over powering. They sell beer, but you can brink your own wine. As Chinese food goes, this is by far the tastiest.

Visited on a Tuesday between Xmas and New Year, we were the only people in the restaurant. Service was very good and food lovely as well.We were recommended via a friend who told us you had to bring your own drink, which worked really well and kept the bill reasonable Would visit again

Came here with my partner, quick and friendly service! Food is great value for money and high quality! We have eaten here twice since! And are going to try the take away as its Evan cheaper! You can bring own alcohol which I find great because u can have a cost effective night out! Highly recommended

A rare treat is instore when you try this place for the first time. In Grays town centre close to the theatre. Park outside for free after 6pm. When you walk in you are greeted by friendly faces, nice traditional wooden tables and chairs my 8 year old thought were so good because they were bouncy!!!The staff are lovely, really helpful and genuinely concerned that you enjoy your food, no fake smiles here you often find in other overpriced restaurants that serve mediocre foods.We had the set meal. £15 each for appetizers, crispy duck, 2 main dishes, rice and chow mein. All the food was lovely. The prawn toast and the chicken sattay were exceptionally good. The lamb with ginger was lovely, even their chips scored a 9 from our fussy daughter.Take your own beer and wine, the guys will bring you a glass, ice etc. They sell cans of soft drinks. Will definitely return, in fact not sure we will ever visit our local take away again, would rather do the 20 minute drive and return here.The set meal of £15 each, we ordered for 2 but its worth noting that there was enough food for 4 if you add an extra rice! Visited here on Saturday night, we bought our own drinks, which is great, they supplied the glasses, and also took away the empties, they did not charge any corkage as most places do, we ordered duck and pancakes for starters, and I can honestly say, the beat I've ever tasted, we had about 4 main dishes and you also get complimentary prawn crackers, all the food was hot, tasty and exceptional, the service was fantastic the only problem I had was that it was a hot day, all they had was 2 ceiling fans, that didn't work very well, and the front door open, I just melted, which spoiled the experience for me, otherwise everything else was perfect, you also received a fortune cookie, when you got the bill, which wasn't very expensive, I would definetly recommend this restaurant

Have ordered many takeaways from China Phoenix.I have tried most of the Chinese eateries in the Grays area and this is my favourite Chinese. I had the chicken in black bean sauce which was delish. Loads of fermented black beans, nice pieces of chicken and no peppers (I don't like them).My wife had mix veges in black bean sauce and she loved it. We then split some egg fried rice which had loads of egg in it. And Singapore noodles, which had a nice spicy kick to them. Prices are the same as most other places but...Portion sizes were huge! Great, cause it leaves you with another helping for the following day. Also had seaweed, without the bacon on top. You have to remind them, as it comes on top as standard- wife is a vege. Chilli oil and a bottle of cola. Comes with free prawn crackers. Came upto around £17. Very reasonable.The lady at the counter may sometimes sound abrupt, but she really is nice all the time. She's just really direct and being efficient at her job. I just wait for her to finish taking an order then crack a joke, she's really nice.If ever we are in the mood for a Chinese in Grays, I'll come here.

I ate here on Friday night with my friend. The food was delicious cooked fresh. We went in around 6pm before seeing a show at thameside theatre. The restaurant was empty when we arrived. We were asked if we had brought drinks. Having never been to the restaurant before we were not aware that diners can bring their own drinks including wine. Next time we go I will definitely take a couple of bottles of wine with me.

It's a quaint little restaurant, tucked in between big bulshy Indian restaurants.It's decor is simple but traditional.The staff are lovely, the boy and lady waiters are happy to help and serve with a smile.The food is amazing, hot, fresh wonderful dishes.You can bring your own alcohol here which allows you to spend more on the great dishes.This is by far our favourite place to eat.You can organise parties or corporate meals here and they are happy to help.

Some of the best Chinese food I've ever had, and I've been to china. I always go when I have the choice with my family.

We visited on a busy Saturday night and were grateful for a table. Our waiter was run off their feet but we didn't have long to wait for anything. The food was nothing special, have had better in Grays but it was at least edible!

I've tried a few chinese takeaways and nothing beats China Phoenix! Me and my family have been going here for a few years now and we are always very satisfied with the food and service. We have always had ours delivered and it's always hot and very tasty! I would highly recommend.

Sandwiched between 2 big Indian restaurants in Grays Orsett Road, one is forgiven to miss this Chinese restaurant. But make a visit, you won't be disappointed, the food is always fresh and well cooked, lovely portions too. It is not fine dinning, with very basic decor and furnitures, and it is not a license restaurant, but this is a benefit, as you bring your own alcohol, which keeps the cost down.If you are planning to have a dinner party, make contact beforehand, and they will cater for your needs.Highly recommended.

Average food for the are....customer service is so bad...I just hung up on the very rude lady who told me off for not advising that my contact number did not match up with address where I wanted th to deliver....my own address as ordered from my friends house on last order how rude!!! We love this restaurant. Great food and an inexpensive night out as they are not licensed so you can bring your own drink. My wife usually hates Chinese food but she likes this so much she arranges girls nights out here. Nice atmosphere. Good sized portions

Visited as part of a large family group with 3 children. No high chair, had to take our own. They don't have a licence, so had to take our own drink. Food is nice, when it arrives. Very short of staff. One girl answering phone, one waiter, one cook. Another table, who were obviously regulars, were consistently served before us, despite arriving well after us. Our dishes were delivered to the table in fits and starts, so at no time were we all eating together. Some dishes were luke warm and the crispy duck sent back as it was cold. Not somewhere we would visit again.
