We have had Sunday lunch several times in the last 2 years and the standard has definitely dropped. Soggy roast potatoes undercooked vegetables. Such a shame.

I went here with my mother and to be honest I'm not sure what the fuss is about this place. Do they own all the high st.? Food was ok-ish with some things being over priced for what they were. I didn't have the best time and I think I'll let my mother go there with her friends in future. Sorry not my cup of tea.

Very busy in this restaurant yesterday lunch time very clean inside and comfortable and friendly helpful staff. My daughter had a delicious prawn salad and I had a crab/avocado salad dish, with a glass of rose. ~The food was delicious and well presented. We were visiting a relative in a nearby hospital so hope to revisit again on our next trip

Went for my mums birthday celebration. Staff kindly picked up my balloons from nearby shop and decorated the table for me. Service was impeccable, we were made to feel special by all staff. Food was amazing as always was a nice relaxing atmosphere. Thank you

Fab place. Stopped off and had quick toasted cheese and ham sandwich and partner had sweet potato wraps and was overjoyed with quality/taste. Have been a few times for lunch, never book and always get sat in middle which is in everybody’s path way. Booked online asked to be sat near window. Arrived had lovely table by window looking out on a rainy Shenfield high street. Restaurant very busy. Food was great as was service from waiter. Only criticism is it does get very noisy

We all enjoyed our food and drinks in the bar area as we hadn’t booked and it was a busy lunchtime session. The service was a bit hit and miss - we didn’t seem to actually have a server assigned to us so we just had to grab anybody that was passing through from/to the main restaurant area. Next time I would book to ensure a table in the main restaurant and the service might be improved.

First visit for lunch, been for breakfast. Other ladies have tried lunch many times so decided to try. Service good very friendly and helpful. Restaurant was busy, did book. Raining so no outside dining today. Got choice of food, all choose off daily special board. Which was a good choice. Well worth a visit will be back

This is a relaxed atmosphere establishment with good outdoor seating area which is great in good weather and also indoor seating, great snacks and drinks, good service and family friendly. Popular with local ladies.

The trains were in pieces, I popped in for breakfast. Just little things like ensuring the toast and the preserves were well presented, had multiple knives and were in good clean order and fully replenished make this place look very professional. The chap serving had about 5 tables and 8 covers to attend to. The girl on the coffee machine was jovial and preferred a 'good morning' welcome as one walked in. Nice place, friendly service and very attentive at breakfast. Some of my fellow breakfasters looked to be enjoying more substantial entrees beyond my simple coffee and toast and their fayre, I have to say, looked very very nice. Thanks to the staff, the bathrooms were also clean, but the attentive staff helped me make my morning a little better. I'll be back guys, maybe not drinking outside in the summer sun with the lads but I'll pop back in one day to get to know you better, thanks.

My daughter took me here for a late breakfast. Vey busy restaurant but the service was good and the staff friendly. I had a full English with pefectly scambled eggs. The food was very good. Apparently it turns into a tapas bar in the evening. Nice smart looking place.

None of us knew Shenfield so walking from the station we found this place. Table for six available so we all had a lovely lunch. Waitress delightful and happy to take photos of us.

As we wanted to have a nice walk and dinner we chose Lot 73 very last minute. Walked in without reservation, could choose seat by the window which is always great. Manager presented today specials as we were taking our sear. I had Seabass he had steak. My meal should be served with rice and steamed veggies. I can not have onion a

Usually a fairly decent local restaurant with no competition and it's convenient. Very disappointed tonight. Crushed potatoes and kale were only just edible as far too salty. My partner had the special, the tuna steak was wafer thin so, impossible to cook rare, as he'd requested, and the samphire was totally inedible as far too salty. Definitely resting on their laurels and in a more competitive environment would definitely not have the regular custom that they take for granted.

We have eaten here a few times forLunches or dinners with friends. This time it was just the two of us. We had a good meal, 1 x starter, 2 x main, 2 x dessert + beer & Wine. Polite attentive staff. We were not rushed in ordering or in paying the bill. It's local to where we live so will use again.

To be honest, the bar in this place in the evening is not my cup of tea. The rest of the time, though, it's far better!The lunches and breakfasts are first rate! Good menu, top quality ingredients and good prices. 12 quid for breakfast, a decent coffee and a tea is very good, especially bearing in mind many of the inflated prices around here.

First time eating here for a Birthday meal. The atmosphere is busy and the restaurant itself looks clean and modern.Service from staff is attentive Food there is a varied menu and daily specials board tapas pizza steak chicken etc.Scallops were very small and only three and under seasoned. I had a special from the board of turkey which being near Christmas I thought I would try. The meat was fine but the vegetables were hard and stuffing very fatty and not nice and left an after taste and indigestion. So it was a bit disappointing. Didn't have deserts.It had the feel of food delivered from a supplier pre prepared and cooked on the premises Wont be rushing back anytime soon

Can't speak highly enough of the staff, they make a fuss of the children and the ice cream selection is off the scale! The food is top notch and the specials always surprise and live up to expectation. The lasagna is something I would recommend , truly delicious !

Really lovely food presented perfectly. I would recommend anything on the menu. We were greeted as we walked and everyone who served us were happy and smiling. The ambiance was great and not too loud which is unusual for a Saturday night. Even the ladies was nice. Definitely worth a visit as the price is reasonable too.

Service good attentive and efficient. Average selection of dinner options I had sea bass for £17.50 which was tasty but I was still hungry. It needs a side order as it comes with 2 asparagus and a small amount of potato rosti. Unlike my friend who had fish cakes which were ample and she ordered chips. The cheesecake was disappointing as it was made in a tall drinking glass so when you ate it you couldn't get down to the biscuit and eat it altogether.

This is one of the best cafe bars I have been to from the design to the patio seating to the menu and atmosphere The menu runs from breakfast through lunch to evening and is well priced with a wide selection of well presented tasty food It's interesting that they manage to blend bar with cafe restaurant very well it's also nice the way the place is split into 3 areas giving a more human scale I have tried this place for breakfast and lunch but will certainly be back one evening

Not been here before. A sunny Saturday early evening (7pm) and it was very busy but didn't seem overcrowded. Took a while to get served but not too long. Has large outdoor pavement seating area (2/3rds reserved for restaurant area next door) which helped make the wine / cocktail bar seem inviting. Mostly much younger, trendier folks than me and my friends (in our 40s / 50s) but we didn't feel out of place.

Went here with friends from football for a meal. Not been here before but had a great night out. Always enjoyed the food at The Lot , brunch, lunch, dinner or just a coffee the service from the staff friendly and efficient. Always a good fish dish on the menu and the lasagne great. Not cheap but good so we always return.

We've been here numerous times and the quality of the food is always to a very good standard. We had a large table on Sunday and the quality of the Sunday Roast Beef was as good as you will find anywhere - a quality cut cooked pink with well cooked veg. If you're not here for the roast then pick your meal from the specials board - they seem to go out of their way to find good fish and this is often on the specials board

Popped into Lot73 with just over an hour to spare for a quick dinner and we were seated immediately, served drinks and orders taken within 10 mins. Dinner was caramelised garlic and cheese bread, prawn linguine and fish cakes with sweet potatoe fries. All excellent quality and good value. Service was friendly and helpful with detailed menu information provided.Meal for 2 in 1 hour for less than £40 - not bad for a "local" restaurant. Definitely will be back.

We arrived into a full restaurant with brunch buzzy Saturday atmosphere. We were quickly seated and helped with highchairs. Unfortunately for us, but sensible in such a busy kitchen, breakfast orders finish at 12 and lunch starts at 12.30. It was 12.10; the black zone with a hungry 18 month year old.The staff were clear and explained the policy but were only too keen to help with our son and brought us a small bowl of fruit to keep him going. We had the odd snack too. As soon as our order could go in it was processed and the food was delicious. Dining with hungry children can be quite stressful in restaurants but this was a pleasure.

Sunday lunch here is very good and would recommend the roast. nice décor and staff. We stayed for the comedy night 'Funny Guys' in the evening, which was hilarious! we will definitely be revisiting as it is on the first Sunday of every month and finished nice and early by 9 o clock ish. I really cant recommend it enough, great to be able to see this sort of talent on your doorstep!

Yet another lunch at Lot, and dinner there last week. Consider myself very fortunate to have such a nice bistro locally and so close to Shenfield Station that friends can meet me there from London and Chelmsford without having to drive. It could do with a little brightening up and the level of service needs to be more consistent as the evening staff are exceptional but daytime can be erratic. The food however is always good. King prawn linguine, superfood salad or ham, egg and chips are all among the best of their kind and if steak or fish are on the menu then these are always of the highest quality.Don't be put off by poor reviews, the good far outweighs the bad.

I eat at this restaurant regularly with a wide variety of different friendship groupings.Friends are always willing to travel to meet me here from Chelmsford, Rochford and other areas which is a great testament.There is a good choice, and vegetarian friends can also have some choice which is great. There's always some specials on offer and I have had several excellent fish specials here. The carnivores can always get a good rib eye steak too. The wine prices are reasonable and the staff always friendly and helpful. There is a children's menu and families are often seen dining at lunch or early evening.Kim, the manager has really improved this restaurant since he took over and it shows.As someone who has been to. ' Lot' more times than I can actually remember I am very surprised to have read some of the reviews below so felt I had to record my appreciation of this excellent local restaurant, which has consistently served myself and my various friends very well and been the setting for countless excellent evenings and lunches.

Went here recently in a group and had a terrible meal with terrible service. Staff are unhelpful and bordering rude. We only ordered one course and took around 1 hour and a half to get to us and it was no more than a third full. Avoid this place.

We have never had a bad evening in this lovely bistro. Last night was a brilliant menu and the swordfish special was beautiful in presentation and taste. I cannot believe at just how appallingly a customer could be treated in a restaurant! The staff were so rude and belittling.We had to wait 25 minutes for a plate of scrambled egg on toast after everyone else's food had arrived. My sister had asked for a child's portion but had been charged for an adult's portion. The waitress then explained we weren't able to be given a child's portion but we should have been made aware of this when ordering as my sister would have chosen something smaller and cheaper. We were unhappy at having to pay full price after waiting 25 minutes but the manager told us she'd "never heard anything so ridiculous in her life".The staff didnt apologise for our long waiting time or charging us full price despite not making us aware. In a restaurant staff should listen to customers rather than ignore and belittle them. What an awful restaurant.Safe to say we'll never be eating here again!

I've eaten here on a few occasions , both business and pleasure, and I really like it.It's small yes, but I like the cosy atmosphere.The food is very good , with a good selection of wines. I found the service very good, and the waiters recommendations have always been enjoyed.I just booked our staff meal here, for a Friday in December, so hopefully it will be as good as my previous visits.

Went to Lot 73 for dinner on Friday night. The place was heaving as was the adjoining bar as it was a warm evening. Friday nights are probably a bit noisy for a quiet dinner for two but as a night out to catch up with friends it had a good vibe. Relatively short menu but interesting specials. Calves liver and bacon was really well cooked and the sauce was really deep and powerful in flavour. The risotto was also excellent. Service was quick considering the number of people and attentive. Looking forward to going back

Nice local restaurant, food always ok to good.Disappointed though in this day and age they were pretty clueless when asked for gluten free.For an Italian style restaurant to not carry even a bag of gluten free pasta is surprising to say the least! My wife is coeliac (not a fad for her) and when we can even go into Pizza Express and be offered a variety of gluten free, a restaurant that is considerably more expensive is not trying hard enough! A different fryer for chips would be a start, a practice that most decent restaurants do.

We dined at Lot last week on a Sunday evening. We were greeted by the waiter and shown to our table, the welcome was friendly.Having been here many times before we know the acoustics make conversation difficult especially when it is busy. The tables are too close together for comfort.The service as always was good, our waiter attentive but not intrusive, we had starters a main course, wine and coffee and every plate was cleared, my prawn linguine was delicious and my husband enjoyed his food too. The menus is varied and to date we have never had a bad meal, sometimes I feels it's a bit top heavy on the prices but they have no competition so until they do they prices will be what they are. The furniture is looking a bit tired but perhaps with the extension into the adjoining building it will have a bit of a facelift.It's a good restaurant with the bigger premises it would be good to see a more extensive menu but I think they might need a bigger kitchen as it is so small, but what comes out of that little kitchen is always good. I'm going back next week for another prawn linguine!!!!

I had dinner in lot 73 last Friday and the food was great. I found so much to choose from on the tapas menu and then went for the healthy option (fish) for mains. thus enabling me to have a scrumptious dessert which was home made and tasted first class. The manager and his team were also the perfect accompaniment to the excellent food. This will now be a regular haunt for me.

We used to go quite often and enjoyed our visits until one Sunday last July we left very disappointed with the quality of food, but we tried again on Saturday in the hope it had improved but unfortunately it had not, food had not improved, no way as good as it used to be which is a shame as we will not be back

Once again we enjoyed an excellent evening but this time we let our husbands come along too. So now they know why this venue is top of the list for a night out. Superb food with excellent friendly service.

Service was atrocious ... almost like they couldn't care less if we were there or not. Customers really do get in the way of their day here. Food was almost as bad. Pasta was actually stuck to the plate and tomatoes were straight out of the tin. Felt as if we were being pushed into having an over priced dessert which we declined and then was being sold the idea of going to their bar next door. Owner got almost stripy when we declined that offer too. Such an awful experience that we won't ever go back again and have advised others about our experience.

Amazing meal. Had the lamb shank special on the recommendation of Stacey the waitress who was first class. Will definitely be going back for more. Would love a cheeseboard to be added to the menu. Highly recommended !!

We live locally and visit this restaurant mid week on the way home from work and occasionally on a Saturday evening. The food is always of a very good standard with a good choice on the menu snd specials board. Tables outside are a bonus for warm evenings. The service has always been very good, with a special mention for Stacey whose customer service skills are first class! Overall a great local restaurant.

Sat outside on a warm August lunchtime. We felt rather neglected from the moment we sat down; having to fetch our own menus - the service was slow (despite being only reasonably busy & lots of staff). We were served by four different people none of whom could be described as welcoming, or friendly, despite my best attempts to demonstrate such characteristics. Two of the four hot drinks were cold, the toasted sandwiches were very tasty, nicely presented and much enjoyed. I had to return a piece of cutlery as it had food remnants from a previous user. All restaurants should be spotlessly clean - this wasn't.

I have reviewed this place twice before and left decent reviews. We had booked to go on a Saturday evening and received a phone call on the same afternoon telling us that a large table had called to extend their table so they had to cancel our table to make room for them! I am sorry, but I really do not find that acceptable. They did offer us a free bottle of wine 'on our next visit' - well that just won't be happening.

Early dinner at Lot 73 on a warm July evening proved a good choice. Caramelised red onion and cheese bread complimented our prawn linguine and salmon, prawn & avocado salad. The food, as usual, was spot on. Generous portions and delicious flavours. This was the second time I have had the salad in a week... Which goes to show how good it is! Living only just around the corner we have been to this little gem of a restaurant a number of times now. Not normally being a writer of reviews (for anything) I felt I had to in this instance as the food is just so good. For a very small restaurant they have a very good variety on the menu, which is mainly Italian based. One of the things that immediately marks it as different to the typical high street chains, is because everything is freshly prepared, you are able to deviate off the menu and have the dish exactly as you want it. The friendly and knowledgeable staff don't judge you for deviating either, there is no rolling of the eyes or reluctant asking of the chef, they are happy to just accept it.As for the food, it has no right to be this good in such a small restaurant in this location. There's always some good things on the ever changing specials board and based on experience, if the mussels or the roast rump of lamb are on there don't hesitate to order them!As some others have noted, it can be a little noisy as there isn't much in the way of soft materials to soak up the sound. But don't let this put you off, it has great food, great service and, for me especially, a great location!

By husband and I went here the sunday before last at around 4 p.m. There were a few tables occupied and we hadn't booked so were shown to a table near the bar. The waitress (the only one!) was very friendly and our drinks came quickly. I ordered risotto and my husband had a seafood pasta. I should know better than to order risotto when I am out, it takes a long while to cook properly and needs time. Mine, quite frankly, didn't taste of anything, I make this dish at home a lot and I had to ask for some parmesan to pep it up a bit. Apart from this it is certainly somewhere worth trying again but next time I will have some fish!!

We had dinner on a Saturday night, very busy and buzzy. Food is quite good, with a few specials on offer, mainly fresh fish. Service is very friendly and efficient. Three of us had fish and one a pizza. All of which were decent. The chips are lovely! The manager is a very pleasant Portuguese man, who I feel is a big part of making this restaurant successful. I thought that the wine list had a pretty good selection with fair prices.

We used to go in when it was Lot 75 but stopped as the tables were too close together and the food was just okay. That closed and reopened in new premises Lot 73. The food is delicious the tables slightly further apart and the Manager and staff are lovely The Manager even came to explain something on the menu I didn't understand. Really good service. We eat here fairly frequently and have always had good food and service. It is not a huge menu but there is a good range of food. They always have pasta, pizza and salads on the menu and the specials are usually some fish, chicken and meat dishes. They have recently started tapas as wellThe wine list is not huge but without exception excellent - thus far!In the early evening there are often families and they are well catered for with friendly welcoming staff but by 8:00 pm it is pretty much only adults.When full it can be loud as which might be a problem if you are a little hard of hearing. We went with some older friends and they struggled to hear us sometimes.

Lovely restaurant. I organised a surpirse birthday for my mum here & as the day approached I gradually realised it was 2 of her best friends birthdays in the same week, so we suprised all of them! I kept calling back and adding one more birthday cupcake - Peter was fab & nothing was too much trouble. I had the baloons delivered (still up 2 weeks later from Gaiety Balloons in Brentwood) & when we arrived they were sitting perfectly on our table. Everyone had a lovely meal. the cupcakes the birthday girls had were delish! Also great bar next door if you fancy a drink before or after dinner.

I eat and drink in both venues all the time and beleive it is the best in the area for value for money and service. My wife always meets me in Lot 75 and feels comfortable and safe. The staff are attentive and friendly. I feel so upset after reading the last review as it is totally untrue and feel they are unaware what a fantastic place it is.

Overrated - eaten in the restaurant 3 times in the last few months and myself and friends have vowed not to go back. Had to send food back as fillets of fish were not deboned. Rest of food was average at best. The cafe/bar next door, is nice looking, but staff on the weekend are a bit of a disgrace. Always overcharge and claim machine broke last time, all very suspect. We have a boycot on the place now.

It was like lets see how many people can we squeeze into a very small restaurant........ i had a stranger sitting next to me although on another table. lets were touching. very uncomfortable.The food.......... well the food that they didnt run out of was just ok nothing special at all. wouldnt bother going again even if it was empty and free. save your time and money and go mcdonalds

After hearing about this restaurant from friends it sounded like a good restaurant to try out. I went with friends had a good night and fantastic food! The restaurant was full, the service started off great and admittedly slackened off towards the end but the food was brilliant and very tasty! Loved it coming back for more!

The perfect night out!! Accompanied by the drinks first in lot 75 and then after!! Service was excellent, food was brilliant even ordered seconds on the tapas! Chicken skewers where amazing! The perfect evening.

I think this deserves a 3 and a half rating, it is between average and very good!! Four of us ate here and all in all it was a decent experience. Shenfield is crying out for a good brasserie and this hopefully will become that. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. I agree with the comment below that it is a little cramped, but we did not find this a problem. The menu is quite extensive for a small establishment, but not cheap. Plenty of fish specials and an adequate wine list. I hope this restaurant succeeds and we will return (especially as it is within walking distance!!).

After seeing and hearing glowing reviews on this place I decided to give it a try on Thursday night (24/05/12). We booked for 8:30 and were seated straight away. I immediately noticed how cramped the restaurant was, it wasn't busy but felt like it was partly because of the layout, and partly as we had to wait 15 minutes before even being asked if we would like a drink! The food was very average. The patatas bravas were awful. Soggy new potatoes cooked in dirty oil with a tasteless tomato sauce (was just like chopped tomatoes straight from the tin!) The chicken skewers tasted burnt but didn't look it. The garlic mayo with the calamari was also unpleasent. Basically mayonnaise with CHUNKS of raw garlic in. The specials on offer were the same as some reviews on here from last year said so it appears they don't get changed. The dessert menu was very limited and rather pricy (£5.95 for ice cream!!!) and the man (owner/manager??) was VERY rude when i said we didn't want dessert and was then very pushy to try and get us in next door (lot 75 bar). Overall a real disappointment, would not recommend and would never return.

My family and I use this restaurant frequently as the service is always welcoming and efficient and the food is excellent whether we need a multi-course meal or something lighter. The Tapas menu is fresh and choices abound, and the specials nearly always include something interesting. Having looked at previous reviews I can understand that, as it's a small place, busy times must be difficult as all food is freshly prepared and a rush on a certain dish may cause disappointment. We have never had a bad experience there. My husband and I often pop there for a meal on a Saturday evening when all our children are out on the town and we always find a warm welcome, personal service and faboulous fresh food. If something has run out we have always found the menu extensive enough to provide an alternative and the chef will adjust meals to taste too.The only negative for me in that the shop-front location can feel a little exposed but asking for a table deeper in the interior reduces this problem.With Lot 75 bar next door but seperate a drink before or after the meal is a useful addition if required and as both are within a stone's throw of Shenfield station, driving home is not a problem!I wouldn't recommend Lot 73 for a formal or special occasion but for a fresh, varied and friendly neighbourhood eatery it is hard to beat.It's also great for lunch and I have never been hurried out if lunch has turned out to be long! (unlike some other restaurants!)

I read through the other reviews of this place, and on balance, decided to give Lot 73 a try.This is a small restaurant with a rather limited menu, not all of which was available(?). The service was fine and the food is okay - I was neither "wowed" or dissatisfied.However, there is no ambiance or buzz about the place even though I'd say it was at least half full and then it struck me. The clue was in the reviews afterall, I'd just missed it! Apart from mothers day, nobody ever has any problem booking this place.Would I return........... I doubt it. It took me 20 minutes to reach this restaurant and there are plenty of other livelier places with more creative and extensive menus within the same timeframe.

After reading the review on mother's day, although it was a while ago, I wanted to write to say I was also there on mother's day. It was very busy but the waitress' were friendly and smiling all the time making sure everyone was still seen to. we also asked for lamb that by 8pm (I'm guessing more booking had came and had food) had all gone. The waitress was helpful and offered alternatives so that we could have, I ended up going for the seabass and my husband had el diablo pizza, everything was wonderfully served, our desert, sticky toffee pudding was delightful which we shared, one of the best I've had in years. Due to the fact it was busy and it is a small restaurant, they out done themselves, I think anyone is silly to leave without giving it a try.Will definitely be back.

Phoned a couple of hours before and was able to get a table despite it being St Patricks Day! Chose the Halibut from the specials menu which was delicious! Followed by the Sticky Toffee pudding. Took our two youngest children who chose from an excellent and generous portioned children's menu. Worth a visit!

Visited on Mothers Day.It was over half an hour before they took our order.By then all the roast lamb was gone.All that was left were three fish main courses and one vegetarian.None of the men in our group wanted these.No alternatives were offered.A shrug of the shoulders.Like it or lump it attitude.We left.Will not return.Such arrogance.So cavalier.Such a shame.

I have visited this brasserie on several occasions with friends. Never once have I been disappointed with the food. For starter I had bruschetta, my goodness so much food. The nicest bruschetta I have ever had! Main I had one if the specials chicken Milanese and again so much food and you could tell it was all freshly cooked. I have also had the sausage pasta and again delicious. A nice atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks and good service. Quite a small menu but in my experience this means all the food is cooked fresh to order. They have specials too which are worth a try. Can't wait to go again!

A firm, and local, favourite I have had 2 visits to Lot73 in February. One at the start of the month for my birthday with friends we enjoyed the tapas menu. The most recent was a last minute thing on a Friday evening. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived but had a lot of bookings for later that evening so although we were accomodated the manager asked if we could vacate the table early. This wasn't a problem for us as we were going out anyway. We each had a main course ... Carbonara and Prawn Linguine. For me, the prawn is a definite favourite and never disappoints. It was delicious. My friend said the same about the Carbonara. I would definately recommend the Linguine as a main dish. Also recommend the Calamare and Garlic bread with caramalised onion if you want something different.Lot73 is getting busy and popular especially at weekend evening so I'd recommend you book if you don't want to be disappointed. Really good food! STAND OUT DISH WAS THE MUSSELS! very fresh and very big.. the waitress was stacey and was very knowlegeable and acomadatinghighly recommend.
