No complaints at all. Great food and wine, friendly staff. Had 7 dishes between two of us, all excellent. We will definitely return!!

Excellent food, great service, typically Spanish environment. This was a birthday gift - We had a wonderful time! Dan was brilliant.

Our first, but definitely not our last, visit. From the warm welcome from the very friendly staff, we had a brilliant experience. The food was excellent, the service was great and each and every dish was a big hit. We will return soon to try some of the other dishes. Go for it and enjoy something special.

Amazing place. We love it here. Food is always amazing. Chorizo is the best! The team always very pleasant and would fully recommend a visit.

We had a warm welcome & we throughly enjoyed our food - we loved the fact it didn't all come at once it was nicely spaced out & every dish we chose was delicious - some were slightly small portions but we still were pleased with our choices - it was busy for a Wednesday night & the atmosphere was lovey & the staff all friendly - we would definitely recommend & look forward to returning.

This was our second visit to Lorentes in Derby and it did not disappoint! Service was friendly and kind, and the food of high quality. The menu has a good choice, supplemented by a specials board. The staff really make you feel welcome. It's such a relaxing atmosphere, I'll be sure to return again.

Great tapas restaurant.. we didn’t book and they managed to fit us in late on in the evening. The staff were friendly and the food was amazing. We’ll be back even with the 3hr drive just to come back would be worth our while 😋😋

Fabulous tapas - as good as I've had in the UK. We had the menu for four which brought plenty of variety. It was all good, but the croquetas were particularly delicious. Good drink options, nice atmosphere and great service. 5 stars all round.

Beautiful place and the food is nice but first our food is forgotten about and told it will come out ASAP for it to then come our 1-2 dishes at a time we had our first dish an hour ago and still waiting for our last which we have just told them to cancel because what’s the point …. Ruined it to be honest was recommended to here as well… disappointing

Lovely food, but very rushed service. A tapas meal for four finished inside an hour, despite the restaurant being quite quiet. Would have much preferred a more leisurely delivery of dishes rather than them being delivered in a rushed manner

Bread a 10 in Spain 90% do not have this bread The tapas are very very good better than 60% of bars in Spain..

Great food, a variety of sangria at this cute little restaurant. Plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options. Good value for money. Only criticism would be the size of the table for six of us. It was a bit squashed.

I’ve been coming here for many years, but after a 2 year break I decided to come back alone. Even though I’m a young person covered in dirt, tattoos and piercings, absolutely no service was spared of me. The staff were not only attentive but incredibly friendly and personable. I had earphones in for my meal and they still continued to provide me exactly the service I would’ve received without them. The food & drink was served promptly and was exactly as described. There is no salt and pepper on the table as the food simply does not need it! Everything was perfectly seasoned and left me waiting to book another table. If you’re new to derby or simply haven’t tried Spanish food before (coming from a Spaniard) I would definitely try this restaurant out, it’s not one to miss at all (even if it is a little hidden!)

Really friendly and welcoming staff. Made sure we were happy and had everything we needed. Food was excellent - really tasty and decent portion sizes. I am coeliac and the menu was clearly marked with what was Gluten Free and the staff even made sure i was aware what dishes others in my group were GF or not. Would happily go again!

8 work colleagues and we are a pain. A vegetarian, a vegan, a pescatarian and I’m gluten intolerant. Not just that but we have to work within a budget. The waitress was fabulous. We chose a set menu but she tweaked it to fit our requirements. All the food was excellent. White wine sangria was a new one on me but was lovely, if potentially a recipe for a hangover! So much quality food for the price. Cannot fault the service. Just excellent.

We enjoyed our food, with excellent waitress and warm atmosphere. Food good, if a little pricey I thought. The special scallops failed to arrive, despite several 'there on their way' updates, which was a real shame.

Enjoyed ourselves. Just let down by lack of the special scallops option appearing. We waited 20 minutes after all other dishes finished before giving up. Waitress serving us was lovely and couldn't be faulted.

We don’t know why it’s taken us so long to leave a review. We come here at least once a month. The food is amazing, the tapas and paella. Drink choice are also brilliant. The service is always spot on, the staff always remember us and make so much effort - even finding you in the bar next door to say there is a table ready. Well recommended - we can’t get enough. After being diagnosed a coeliac I have been looking for a restaurant that serves gluten free food. My visit toLorentes for filled my mission. .Very helpful staff who helped me with menu there was lots of gluten free options and best of all no reaction from cross contamination. I have always loved this place so glad I can continue to enjoy the food worry free

Great tapas restaurant, lovely staff, quality food and great experience. Good choice of foods, wines, drinks and fantastic specials. Also have to mention the lemon posset dessert, top drawer!!!

We couldnt fault the great food and service. The chorizo was outstanding as was the paella. Would recommend, however the drinks I thought were a bit pricey. £9.80 per glass!

The food was incredible, completely surpassed our expectations and the service (and suggestions) was excellent. Go here if you can.

Visited on Easter Sunday for a birthday celebration. Only found out about the place online the day before. How have we not been here before? This is a little gem of a restaurant. Although fairly small, and quiet when we arrived late afternoon, the restaurant had a nice feel from the moment we arrived. Service was excellent all the way through even as it got busier, and all our questions about the menu were answered by the manager who obviously took great pride in the restaurant. The food was excellent as we shared 5 tapas between 2 of us, which was more than enough, although we were tempted by dessert. The selection of wines was good, and the Spanish beers were interesting and varied. Overall an excellent meal, and good value when taking into account drinks as well. We’ll be back.

Beautiful little spot with a great selection of delicious food! The honey chorizo especially was reordered for our table multiple times! The staff were also friendly and attentive even with the place mostly full.

I took my mother out this Saturday evening as a late mother’s day meal , we had been to Lorentes before up in Darley Abbey and we loved it so we gave the City centre restaurant a try too . We absolutely enjoyed everything about our evening. The male waiter (unsure of his name) was amazing and conversed with me in Spanish. Really nice guy and lovely waitress Phoebe too :) Would definitely visit again.

Had some great food here today with some old work mates. Had the set Spanish menu which included paella and tapas starters, really top quality. Sangria by the jug was good too. Staff lovely well recommended

We've been twice to eat and sat at the bar both times. I really enjoy sitting there. There is only space for one couple to eat. Staff are very friendly and helpful with the wine and food menu. All the dishes we've had are tasty. The blue cheese croquetas are lovely, and the cheesecake is the best I've had. We are definitely going to be frequenting this place.

First time & thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Staff were very informative & attentive & the food was superb. Nice bottle of rose cava to wash it down. We often visit derby & can't wait to book again.

Lorentes Friar gate is one of our favorite restaurant to dine in Derby. Service is always great, we love the food here thats why we keep coming back. I love ta sangria here, inexpensive but strong! We just wondering if there are some changes in their recipes or chef as delicious tapas became way too salty compare to our previous visits. we visited last night, my husband and i decided to stick with tapas without ordering mains. we ordered 8 tapas and all of them are really salty. It’s just sad as my husband decided that it will be the last time that we will dine at Lorentes because of that changes.

We were gathered to say goodbye to some family members, we were all super satisfied with the excellent Spanish food. The house bread is 10, good beer, the English cider we ordered is the most similar to a Spanish cider and a good white wine accompanied our tapas. If I have to recommend just one dish it would be difficult, the octopus, the mushrooms, the squid, the paella, the sweet chorizo, croquettes. We liked everything. We still needed to try the desserts but we were full enough to eat them. Another time, we will order less and try it.

Superb night out, the quality is consistent every time.

We had a fantastic selection of delicious tapas last Friday before going to the flamenco concert at the cathedral. We had the set menu, which was delicious and great value. They use really good ingredients & they paced the meal perfectly. The wines and service were excellent. Thank you!! 🥂

We were a group of 10 for a business dinner, so we opted for the set menu of most popular tapas and the veggie tapas. There was plenty of food, and it was authentic and very tasty. The service was friendly and efficient. Would recommend!

Turns out they wrote my name down incorrectly ("Fugh" ... !?), even though I spelt it out and had them repeat it back to me ... The whole experience was embarrassing. Rather than admit fault and make amends, the restaurant continues to try and find blame with me for not "helping" the situation.

I was looking for somewhere interesting for my husbands birthday that had good Gluten Free options. And what an amazing place Lorentes is. The atmosphere is very Spanish and the food and drink is very authentic and excellent quality. My husband tried all sorts of things he had never had before and loved it all. The service was amazing and usual tapas style with lots of small plates arriving as they were ready. The staff were polite and knowledgable. Attentive without being too much! My favorite dish were the almonds! My goodness they were so good!!!! We will definitely be returning!

Had a family Birthday meal here, it was a very cosy relaxed atmosphere, lots of choice and recommendations from the very attentive helpful staff, was not rushed and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, the food was amazing. Highly recommend but always very busy and gets booked up so reserve well in advance.

A friend and I visited last Friday evening for my birthday meal. I'd never been before, but had heard so many good things from friends and colleagues - we were not disappointed! We had a selection of dishes to share. All were so fresh and tasty. Our waitress was so lovely and helpful. Overall it was a great evening, and I'd definitely recommend.

This is a REALLY GOOD AUTHENTIC tapas restaurant, that also serves larger plates of food too. We had seven different tapas between two of us, and all of them were delicious. If I could improve one thing it would be to heat up the serving...

Lorentes in the town centre has gone downhill since the early days. Our paella smelt like salty harbour water had been poured over it and parts of the mussels were gelatinous and see through so we sent it back. We were told it was cooked fine and we'd only get the same again, even though I'd shown the waiter an obvious visibly undercooked mussel. Some of the tapas were very good but another cabbage, potato and black pudding one was really basic for the price. I won't be returning as the last time the Bacalao was undercooked too so I think there must be a replacement chef that is inexperienced with fish since the new restaurant opened in Darley Abbey.

The staff were incredible, very attentive, we sat on a small table to start and when another table left we were offered it to give us more space which was so thoughtful. The food was very authentic and bursting with flavour, really loved sangria options...

This area is truly stunning!! The employees were extremely accommodating and recommended the most popular dishes and dishes with the proper size for our party. Every single item we ordered was exceptionally flavorful, and arrived fast and hot from the kitchen. I'm sure I'll return!!!

Great! Never had tapas before so it was really nice to try all the different dishes and get a better understanding of the cuisine. Heartily recommend (not cheap though, if you’re ordering multiple plates, be careful not to overspend, the set plates were good value however).

We had a large group booking for my Husband's 30th Birthday and I honestly couldn't find anything to fault! Right from the point of booking the staff were very accommodating and helpful (from food intolerances to bringing our 8 month old with us) and this continued on the night, when nothing was too much trouble; the service was excellent! Food was absolutely delicious, we loved the chicken Paella. And there is so much choice on the menu, especially for those with a gluten intolerance, which was really important for our party. We will definitely be back!

Brilliant, lovely staff, great atmosphere and possibly the best vegetarian paella I have ever eaten. Great prices cannot recommend highly enough. Only negative is there were no Vegatarian desserts. If in Derby again will 100% comeback.

Tasty food however initially staff couldn't find my booking, then the waiter cleared my cutlery before my main meal arrived so had not checked my order properly, then staff took 25 minutes to clear my empty plates and bring the bill. However the food from the special menu only consisted of 5 mouthfuls which left me hungry especially at double the price of the other dishes to which the waitress replied I could order more food?! No offer of an apologetic free drink or dessert which is common practice in most restaurants either. And as I have worked in the service industry previously the excuses were poor overall. Overpriced and over rated. 2 stars is fair.

Came here for the second time on 30th June having been several months ago. Am not going to say too much except great food, great service, not too expensive and a nice restaurant. The staff were lovely. Will be back again in the future

Honestly, can't recommend Lorentes enough! The food has been incredible every time, service has always been friendly and fast. Depending on what time you go it can either be nice and quiet or have a buzzing atmosphere in the restaurant. If you've got 4 people, try the tasting menu!

Lovely experience, came in for a friend's leaving do. Wonderful customer service from Dan, food check backs from the lovely lady working as well. Food was absolutely delicious and came out at a steady pace, definitely would visit again!
