On a lovely sunny morning, had a great brunch and coffee in the garden. Very attentive service and food was great. Good to see this cafe thriving!

Amazing little coffee shop, friendly staff, very attentive and wide range of vegetarian, vegan & halal options. Had a member of the group with a strict nut allergy and they were really amazing with making sure all went well. Beautiful decor. Easy parking. Can go for a walk around the green before or after a visit. Highly recommend . Been many times for just coffee, or breakfast/ brunch. They do afternoon tea plus your can hire it on particular days for private events- have had weddings and the owner does a free Christmas lunch for those alone in the community

An awful experience. Disgustingly rude owner and manager. Pitiful portions, overpriced, and was even asked by the manager if I could ‘read English’ …. Disgusting manners and I will never return. No wonder it was empty.

I booked Afternoon Tea for a family 80th Birthday. From start to finish it was a great experience. When I booked I asked for a table with good access and space for our birthday guest. I was asked to choose three different sandwich fillings from a good choice. On arrival we were greeted warmly and shown to a very large table that met our booking requirements, plenty of space for three! It was in the conservatory in the fake floral decorated wall corner which added to the ambience. There was a fan for added comfort. Nothing was too much trouble the waiter explained what drinks were on offer and the choice of tea was impressive and unlimited throughout our afternoon. One of our party opted for the included Mocktail. The food arrived promptly and was displayed on a tiered stand It looked lovely and there was plenty. Sandwiches on one layer, quiche and sausage rolls on the next, macarons and petit fours with strawberries and blueberries on the last. There was so much we'd even forgotten about the homemade scones but our waiter came and asked us when we'd like them. They came on another plate with clotted cream and jam, again plenty. In fact there was so much that we sadly couldn't finish it all. The birthday guest thoroughly enjoyed it as did we. The staff were very friendly and keen to make it a good experience. The Lord Roberts is a hidden gem and well worth a visit. Do make sure to book in advance for a special occasion though as it's not a huge place. Good value for money.

We had a lovely lunch at Lord Roberts on The Green today. We were welcomed by the owner when we arrived. As we were leaving she asked how our lunch had been. The food was fresh, well presented and tasty. The restaurant and garden are a delightful place to have coffee, lunch or afternoon tea. We will certainly be visiting again.

I've been a regular customer of LROTG since it opened and have also visited many times since change of ownership. Sadly, the things that were great about it before, including the welcoming staff, have slowly been phased out. The quality of cakes is disappointing, with the original local bakers no longer supplying them. The Victoria Sponge has twice now been served with a frozen centre. The service is inconsistent and is also letting it down. The opening and closing times appear to change regularly according to demand, but without much warning. I was disappointed to visit on a Thursday afternoon, at 3.50pm, to find nobody serving at the coffee bar and the kitchen staff disinterested. I wasn’t even acknowledged so left without buying anything. As a local I used to love this place and have tried to give it a fair chance, but it continues to disappoint.

My friend and I used to always go here during a lunch hour catch up. Last visit the feta salad was miniscule and today we didn't even get to eat as the venue was hosting a wedding reception and we were told food would take longer than normal! Decided to leave and unlikely to return as feel its gone down hill since being taken over. Seems very disorganised.

I grew up and lived in Coulsdon for 23 years. After living in london for 25 years I recently moved back to Purley. I used to go to the Lord Roberts as a kid and play on the Village Green opposite, this is when it was a newsagents. The Lord Roberts is now a cafe and for old times sake I took a walk up there on the morning of 10th March……..and how I’d wished I hadn’t! I walked in and a young chap walked towards me and called me “bruv”. I’m 49 years of age so being called “bruv” is not only offensive to any prospective customer, it doesn’t befit someone of my generation. Nonetheless, I politely ignored that and he then asked if I’d booked. I told him I was just walking by and fancied something to eat. Hus immediate response was, “we’re fully booked”, despite there being empty seats and it was 10am. Again, politely ignoring his apparent inability to treat prospective customers with respect and dignity, I asked to look at a menu. The food looked good so I asked if there was a table free, and then another chap approached and said, “we do but as long as you leave by 10.30”, to which I jokingly replied, “I’d better shove my food down quickly then”………and he agreed (clearly not realising I was joking). Another chap came over and said, we have a table next to the front door. I looked over and there was a small table literally by the front door which would have been very cold and disruptive with people coming and going. In the end I left. To say I was offended would be a gross understatement. To be referred to as “bruv” was bad enough, but to be asked to sit by the front door was the height of rudeness. I could have ordered food and had less than 30 minutes to eat it, but I wanted to enjoy my food and by the time I would have ordered and it arrived I expect I would have had 5 minutes to finish, pay and vacate the table. I will NEVER come back, which is a shame because this wonderful place had great memories for me as a child, but to be treated which such disdain and disrespect means I will never come back and will only speak badly of this place to my friends and family nearby. I’ve moved back to my family home in Rose Walk so it’s handy as only a short walk too.

Given we were the only table there, I don't think many people are aware that on Friday and Saturday they open later for Lebanese evenings. The food was very good - shared Mezze to start. All cooked to order. Given there wasn't anyone else there, felt like we were sitting in someone's front room whilst they cooked, like a private dining experience! Very friendly. My only criticism is they don't serve any alcoholic drinks and it isn't cheap.

The Lord Roberts has long been a favourite place of ours for brunch, tea or just a cake & coffee after a walk around the Web Estate but they started to do evening meals recently so we gave it a try. The new owners (from mid 2023 I think) bring a Lebanese twist to the Lord Roberts and so it's not surprising that dinner is Lebanese only cuisine. The menu is quite limited, which we really like, but it's all home cooked and caters for veggies and meat eaters alike. Our visit was a Friday night and we were the only patrons (only been doing dinner for a few weeks so the word is out there much) but it didn't matter because the nature of the place is that it feels cosy and vert welcoming. The owners couldn't have been more welcoming and although they are just finding their feet they laid on a lovely meal and spent time with us explaining the origin of the dishes etc. I'm trying to remember what we had (the menu isn't online yet) - Tabbouleh (salad with bulgur), Baba Ghanouj (aubergine dip), Humus, Lamb Kibbeh, Lamb Kafta, Batata Harra and I'm sure there were a couple of other pastry things that wrapped lamb or cheese. All of it was great, portions were generous and the quality of the ingredients super fresh. The only thing to note: - there is wine, beer and cider available but it's all non-alcoholic and although we had a crack at most, it was all a little sweet. I don't know if they would allow BYO with/without corkage but I would suggest asking when you book.

I’ve been here twice and it always seems to be a good idea until you are there.. both times the service have been very slow. I thought the slow service was due to it being quite busy the first time I visited but today, there were only 3 tables of people and it still took 30-40 minutes for my food to arrive. Secondly, the staff managed to forget that we ordered cake on both occasions so today, we ended up waiting another 35 minutes after our plates were taken away for the cake to come but it never did so we went up to speak to them and they just seemed to have forgotten despite putting it on our order. It was rather frustrating for it to happen on both occasions! Perhaps the staff need to be better trained and remember to walk around the cafe to see if the customers need anything rather than just staying behind the till.

A frequent visitor! The owner and her staff are very courteous and go out of their way to make everyone welcome, the food is delicious and well presented and the atmosphere warm and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble for them . Having read a few dissenting reviews, amongst the many favourable ones, we would comment in particular that the elderly and disabled seem well looked after, and every effort is made to accommodate mothers and babies too! It seems to be a popular meeting place for them- one must remember that it is only a relatively small establishment and prams etc take up a fair amount of space - so advanced booking might be a good idea to avoid disappointment. Even dog owners are well catered for with a comfortable covered outdoor seating area - complete with heaters! Would gladly recommend to anyone!

My wife and three of her friends went to the lord Robert's for lunch with their newborns/prams. It was the first time they had been since the new owners had taken over. They were told that they only have one table that baby can be sat at, which was occupied by an old couple. With most other tables free. The male sever was hostile and unwelcoming and it really felt that they didn't want mothers and children. And just wanted us gone. The feel of the place has really changed with the staff sitting at the front table almost upset they to talk to customers. It's a real shame as this local gem has now lost its shine.

Afternoon tea for 6 was a special treat given as a thank you gift. No welcome as we came in, barely shown to our table. Had to wait for someone for 10 mins and managed to ask for water. Finally food arrived which was very nice except for the overcooked mini quiches. The pots of tea were basically enough for two small tea cups per person. When we asked for another pot of tea we were told quite abruptly “It’s not bottomless tea” by the owner! Well… quite surprised but ok. At £28.50 per person ended up paying extra for two pots of tea!

Once you visit here you will be booking it up weekly like me. The venue is a pretty quaint cottage building housing a fantastic floral ambience - various eating areas from inside - conservatory - outside covered terrace and garden seating. I honestly can’t stay away with such a vast menu choice. It’s a menu I intend to work my way through. The venue is licensed so special occasions can be celebrated in style. There’s many mocktails to chose from to keep everyone hydrated. Plenty of beverages on offer hot & cold to wash the many cakes down aswell. You are served with much professionalism and not rushed to make a choice. The background music is such a delight and song choices will have you singing out loud!! I can’t wait to return and try a new delight.

A busy sunny Sunday, we'd booked to treat our late parents neighbours who have been so so helpful as we clear their home. But had car problems, some of our party had to wait for the AA so didn't order for an hour. Inially, we...

So disappointed since under new ownership. Went there for a quick lunch, although they had problems with not accepting cards, service was not great. Had the smallest of sourdough toast ever with avocado with a measly side salad. Our latte coffee was not great too....

I recently enjoyed afternoon tea at Lord Roberts, my first visit. A wide variety of well filled sandwiches, delicious cakes and scones and unlimited pots of tea, but the icing on the cake was that it was delivered by such friendly and welcoming staff and...

We have had a remarkable and special afternoon for my mum's 85th birthday today. Firstly Julie has been amazing in sorting out our booking and requirements. Then I was slightly nervous to hear the tearoom had been bought by someone. Well my anxieties instantly vanished...

Three friends and I met for a coffee and found the staff snooty. Firstly, we asked a server to take our coffee order to a different table as we were moving to one with more space. She did it in an unfriendly manner as though...

First impression of the place was not bad. Lovely building, nicely decorated, good parking, and seemed to have nice homemade cakes on their photos. But this is just first impression. When we sat down, staffs were all in one corner and didn't really pay attention...

In light of an absurd recent review by an apparently deranged local clearly hell bent on leaving poor reviews whenever she can I feel moved to leave my own thoughts on this little gem of a place. We moved to Purley exactly 3 years ago...

Bad food. Loooong wait both for drinks and food. Waiter (owner I was told) got 2 meals wrong. Brought calamari fritti for my husband and I which he never ordered in his life and I can't stand them as they are like rubber in the UK so would never have ordered that. Waiter insisted I did, not once but 3x! My husband actually asked for whitebait! My husband ordered calf's liver as a main which is soft and succulent in France, Germany and Greec etc. It was thin and like shoe leather. It is supposed to go into a hot pan, then turned over after a few seconds and taken out of pan - served. This is what it should be like "A classic of British cooking, Calf's Liver is succulently tender and fine-grained with a deliciously mild, sweet flavour. More and more people are discovering the delicious flavour of Calf's Liver due to its place on the menus.« I took it home to give to the dog and foxes!! My friend next to me (we were 13) ordered meatballs which were so salty she couldn't eat them. Another lady didn't like how the fish was done. It was mediocre. MY mussels had anorexia. I have photos. They were non existent or if there was one in the shell, it didn't measure more than 5mm. 20 were empty and the sauce was not nice. Obvs they were not fresh mussels, they were cooked already and just heated up. Lots and lots of small broken shells in the sauce. Must have been the last dregs. Just as well I didn't swallow one of the shards. Will I go back? No, I'll go to a real Italian restaurant next time. Bragging about an Italian chef! He needs to go on a cookery course IN ITALY! I lived, ate and cooked there. I know what Italian food is supposed to taste like!!!!! And sooo expensive.

They cook the best skinless cod, away from the seaside, that can be found locally but the CHIPs!!! By the time you sit down to eat them at home, they become dry and shrivelled and there are just so many of them, that we don't have plates big enough. I recommend asking for lots of salt and vinegar in the hope the moisture sweats some plumpness into them while they are wrapped up. The Fish still wins out over the local competition, where some places are still cash only, a disgrace in this day and age.

What a difference. Just had the most lovely evening with a group of 12 people. The service was fantastic, with all orders coming out quickly and separate payments for each person. Totally went above the redirected. The portion sizes were very generous. Great brass band playing Xmas songs for a short while.
