I’ve been here twice and it always seems to be a good idea until you are there.. both times the service have been very slow. I thought the slow service was due to it being quite busy the first time I visited but today, there were only 3 tables of people and it still took 30-40 minutes for my food to arrive. Secondly, the staff managed to forget that we ordered cake on both occasions so today, we ended up waiting another 35 minutes after our plates were taken away for the cake to come but it never did so we went up to speak to them and they just seemed to have forgotten despite putting it on our order. It was rather frustrating for it to happen on both occasions! Perhaps the staff need to be better trained and remember to walk around the cafe to see if the customers need anything rather than just staying behind the till.

A frequent visitor! The owner and her staff are very courteous and go out of their way to make everyone welcome, the food is delicious and well presented and the atmosphere warm and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble for them . Having read a few dissenting reviews, amongst the many favourable ones, we would comment in particular that the elderly and disabled seem well looked after, and every effort is made to accommodate mothers and babies too! It seems to be a popular meeting place for them- one must remember that it is only a relatively small establishment and prams etc take up a fair amount of space - so advanced booking might be a good idea to avoid disappointment. Even dog owners are well catered for with a comfortable covered outdoor seating area - complete with heaters! Would gladly recommend to anyone!

I cannot stress how much I recommend this place for an afternoon tea. Anyone who says to me they are looking for somewhere, this is the first place I suggest. My wife and three of her friends went to the lord Robert's for lunch with their newborns/prams. It was the first time they had been since the new owners had taken over. They were told that they only have one table that baby can be sat at, which was occupied by an old couple. With most other tables free. The male sever was hostile and unwelcoming and it really felt that they didn't want mothers and children. And just wanted us gone. The feel of the place has really changed with the staff sitting at the front table almost upset they to talk to customers. It's a real shame as this local gem has now lost its shine.

The owner was pressuring us to leave a good review despite the poor derives and experience we received. Such a shame to see how much this place has deteriorated. We used to enjoy frequenting here but the service under the new owner is very poor. The staff made quite a fuss when we asked to swap the egg out for a vegetarian meal. Staff were not friendly or welcoming - yet social media posts paint a very different picture.

Afternoon tea for 6 was a special treat given as a thank you gift. No welcome as we came in, barely shown to our table. Had to wait for someone for 10 mins and managed to ask for water. Finally food arrived which was very nice except for the overcooked mini quiches. The pots of tea were basically enough for two small tea cups per person. When we asked for another pot of tea we were told quite abruptly “It’s not bottomless tea” by the owner! Well… quite surprised but ok. At £28.50 per person ended up paying extra for two pots of tea!

Once you visit here you will be booking it up weekly like me. The venue is a pretty quaint cottage building housing a fantastic floral ambience - various eating areas from inside - conservatory - outside covered terrace and garden seating. I honestly can’t stay away with such a vast menu choice. It’s a menu I intend to work my way through. The venue is licensed so special occasions can be celebrated in style. There’s many mocktails to chose from to keep everyone hydrated. Plenty of beverages on offer hot & cold to wash the many cakes down aswell. You are served with much professionalism and not rushed to make a choice. The background music is such a delight and song choices will have you singing out loud!! I can’t wait to return and try a new delight.

Myself and my husband visited yesterday to enjoy some of their amazing cakes. The Stem Ginger cake was gorgeous - deliciously moist! Perfectly accompanied by chocolate milkshakes. Staff were really friendly and attentive. Lovely location - we say in the pretty garden looking out to the village green. Decor is pretty and chic. Socially distancing well adhered to. Super friendly owners. Well worth a visit. We will be back again to test our more of the cakes!

Very average food, grossly overpriced, poor service & rude staff. Caters for the mega wealthy residents of Woodcote Estate, not for lesser mortals. Plenty of better options in the area.

Have visited on two occasions over past few weeks. First visit staff were not very welcoming, however coffee and lemon drizzle were delicious Second visit I had lunch, avocado with smoked salmon on toasted sourdough bread. Positives, salmon generous portion. Not so good, plastic knives and forks to eat any type of toasted bread really is a no go. I struggled for so long had to ask in end for normal set, was given knife only. My friend had Julie's quiche which tasted of not much, quote. I must add, the young male adult that works there is great, it the more mature staff that need a few lessons. I will be back, but not for lunch, tea and cake.

Visited for the first time during lockdown. Lovely cakes and coffee. Looks so sweet inside - can’t wait for it all to be fully open again. Nice staff. Lovely green out the front to eat your cakes and drink coffee on. Cafe was also selling essentials to take home if you couldn’t get to the shops during the height of lockdown.

Visited today for coffees. When we walked in the staff failed to welcome us and were too engrossed in their own conversations to notice we were there. Plain rude when we served.

Not the best shakes, rather milky taste over anything else. Consistency very thin. I prefer a thick milkshake

The staff at Lord Roberts have been amazing during the lockdown. They have worked so hard to provide great support and service to the local community. They are always cheerful, helpful and they have brightened up our mornings with their positive approach and sense of humour especially Tina and Julie. Thankyou so much for all you have done for the local community.
