They cook the best skinless cod, away from the seaside, that can be found locally but the CHIPs!!! By the time you sit down to eat them at home, they become dry and shrivelled and there are just so many of them, that we don't have plates big enough. I recommend asking for lots of salt and vinegar in the hope the moisture sweats some plumpness into them while they are wrapped up. The Fish still wins out over the local competition, where some places are still cash only, a disgrace in this day and age.

A very busy fish and chip shop. The fish was excellent and the chips were fresh and not dripping with oil. The staff were friendly and Theresa's a good atmosphere.

Entered and asked if they accept card. Waitress just said "No". No friendly greeting or anything. I was able to walk out, and another man behind the counter looked up from his phone and said I can use the website. He then looked back down at his phone. The website was very clunky to process the order. It took me the best part of 5 minutes to make a simple order, stood there in front of the staff twiddling their thumbs. Food was good, sure it's fine if you have cash.

I love the chips here. Very generous with the portions. They do a whole range of other food but I normally only get chips because I'm tight. 😀

Personally wouldn't go anywhere else, have been regular customer at our local Sanderstead fish and chip shop for the last few years. Have to say the quality of their fish and chips is excellent, huge portions and they provide a wonderful service for our local community. They also do home deliveries if required however at weekends are very busy so allow time to deliver/visit the shop. The staff were as always very helpful, friendly and give wonderful customer service. The fish and chips was utterly scrumpcious, beautiful tasty cod and batter. The huge portion of chips were crisp, delicious and went down a real treat along with a portion of onion rings which were tasty. Can't wait to return again very soon for our regular weekend treat.

The staff were as always very helpful, friendly and give wonderful customer service . The fish and chips was scrumpcious, beautiful tasty cod and batter . The chips were crisp, delicious and went down a real treat, also had a portion of onion rings which was delicious. Can't wait to return again very soon.

Hardy's had started running a home delivery service during the pandemic and it was fantastic if slightly more expensive than other local fish and chip shops. The extra expense was well worth it and the quality of food was excellent, large portions always hot and delivered on time. The fish was succulent and myself and partner had never had a bad meal. Sadly they have now moved onto using Deliveroo who are overpriced and no longer offer different sizes of fish and an option to have fish "without skin" hence the 3 star review. If they would start re-delivery themselves it would be a 5 star review every time!

I have never had a piece of cod so overcooked and dry and the chips are the worst i've ever had. One way to make customers not come back. First and last time. There was a lot of chips but would sooner have less and them be nice. Looking at the good reviews maybe its hit and miss. It should be good all the time if you want your customers to come back. Your in this business to make money surely!!!

Amazing portion sizes! First time coming here. Takeaway large cod & chips for £10 but it truly was enough for 2 people. The portion size for the chips was massive. Had McDermott’s before which is highly rated and this isn’t far off. You can’t sit in as it is just takeaway.

First time I've been to this place under current ownership because McDermotts was closed due to CV. Terrible and never again. Both chips and first looked good and generous portions but extremely poor quality. Cod wasn't fresh and was very dry and stringy, batter too thick. Chips were terribly dry as if they'd been refried. This place used to be quite good under the original owners but it's clear the new owners have dropped the quality. Customers aren't stupid and there is no hiding with something as simple as fish and chips.

Advertised on Amex shop small as taking American Express, but when you call they say 'our machine is not working' ie not intention of taking card payment - decide whether you do or come off the network !

When I went to the shop, I simply ordered chips in salt and vinegar. Simple, right? However it seems impossible for this bunch, where the chips were more like crisps, rock hard with no texture. Will never be returning, station fish and chips and castella fish bar still dominate over the south Croydon and Sanderstead area.

Popped in here for a quick late night dinner and it was a great choice the fish had a crisp batter though the fillet was quite thin it was still moist and not over cooked. The chips were very nice with a bit more crunch than most chip shops and the battered sausage had a bit more flavour than normal which I was pleasantly surprised by.

When I went in at 810pm last night the place was empty. I placed my order with a very disinterested server - who was more keen to know what was happening outside - he practically chucked the change in my hand. This is the real unhygienic bit - he perched himself up on the shelf in front of the hot cabinet where the bags for chips and paper for wrapping fish is - he sat on top of them and puts his feet up with dirty trainers on the shelf opposite and casually ties his laces and sat there until I pointed out it was unhygienic then he got off. He said "we don't prepare food on this bit" and failed to understand he sat with dirty jeans on the very bags and paper they serve the food in. There was no wiping down or hand washing done. Spoke to the 'manager' who would not give his name, he said "I did not see him do it!" The fish was so greasy it was not edible. Won't be visiting again but will highlight my experience to the Environmental Health.

Good sized portions.. Possibly too big for some, you can a;ways ask to reduce the size of the chips....or just eat them :-) Nice clean premises and friendly staff

Very handy place to have nearby for our "Fish on Friday" takeaway. Well cooked fish, crispy batter and lovely thick cut chips. Service courteous and quick.

I work very nearby so thought I would treat myself and go here for lunch, staff was friendly, I got a lunch time Special of a battered sausage and chips with a drink. It tasted great. I will be back soon

Eran dos últimas órdenes bañado en aceite, incluso cuando habían sido recién preparado delante de nosotros, parece que la dueña de un Nick ha tomado un banco para su imperio de desplomarse.Lo que sea que hagas, no pedir la salchicha maltratadas, gambas o las grandes cod ya que será insoportablemente disconforme.

A very small fish and chip shop.Take away only as there are no facilities to eat inside.I suppose this is a popular place as the day I was here there was a fairly lengthy queue.

Haven't been here for a while but fancied a spur of the moment fish and chip supper on walking past. The chips were a bit soggy, although a good portion....unlike the cod, which was very small and to much batter.

After a really disappointing meal last time I was a bit concerned about going back, but this time the portions were a good size, were fresh and all were well cooked. Congratulations on getting back on form

I have used the Village Fish and Chip shop for some years - before today the fish has always been excellent. Today, however, we were extremely disappointed. The two portions of plaice were tiny - one appeared to have missed the batter altogether and the other was more batter than fish. My "large cod" was about half the normal size. By contrast the large portion of chips was enormous!Not impressed

We loved this place! The portions are enormous and the price is low. Owners were very nice and friendly. The only downside was there wasn't any place to eat in. There was a steady stream of locals for takeaway. A very good sign.

People may moan about the wait, if so go to the other chippy shops where they buy inferior products.This shop clearly taste their products and should be proud of the quality they offer.Seriously high quality, well recommend this place

Quite simply the best fish and chips that i have had for 25 years.This is a traditional fish and chip shop. The menu is limited, opening hours are also limited (closes at 21:00 most nights) and it is quite pricey compared to what I am used to in NW England.But the Fish and Chips were truly excellent - the chips are cooked in sunflower oil and give a really tasty fluffy chip. The fish (I had cod but there are other selections)was also excellent - and was cooked to order.We also had chicken burgers which were much enjoyed.I thoroughly recommend this chippy!

good chip shop that wins awards and is a relatively new business. I would say this is new modern cooking, which i suspect is using healthier cooking methods. Chips firm and fish very fresh.Its cooked to order so expect to wait. Ids that a bad thing? heard someone moaning, which i think is unreasonable. parking ok.recommend

Why is it fish and chips take so long to cook it's supposed to be fast food but it's any thing but ??? My order wasn't complicated it was fish and chips I was told to wait ten minutes later my food was handed over to me it never used to take this long and the food doesn't taste any better anyway if you've got time on your hands this ones for you

Had to wait 10 mins for a portion of chips. Very disappointed with service. I was given no apology. They cool to order whichever great but it's a fish and chip shop so.you shouldn't have to wait very long. I won't be going back.

We often used to go to McDermotts for the best fish and chips around here, but now, no need. This is easily as good, if not better, and nearer for us. The fish is excellent and always fresh and so far for me cooked to order, so freshly cooked too. The chips are large and personally I like them better than any other - crispier! The shop's been re-done - modern and light, and the service great - what's not to like?!
