After a long drive, passing through Woburn had us stopping for something to eat. Coming across this inn, we liked the feel about the place (it was like stepping back in time) and a quick look at the menu was enough to see just take a seat in the small restaurant. An old coaching inn, the place retains much of its original characteristics but serving food which the first customers would only dream about. A wide choice (see photos) which has something for everyone and at quite surprising prices (sirloin steak at under £20) had my wife and I deliberating over what to have. Settling for the steaks, we were delighted with the plates put in front of us. Lovely succulent steaks, cooked to perfection (1 x well done & 1 x medium well) with most adorable chips & grilled half tomato. Add a couple of drinks set off a brilliant meal. The service, not particularly speedy, was good and nice to have a waiter willing to have a chat with 'strangers'. Would certainly return again in the future to try some of the other menu items.

Fantastic afternoon in a cozy pub. The young lady from Sheffield (apologies I didn't ask her name) was absolutely amazing. Nothing was too much trouble, she went above and beyond for us and the others in the pub. She was multitasking like a boss and even lit the fire when we asked. Lunch was really well cooked, again nice and hot and chef took note that two of our party are on Keto diets and arranged the meals accordingly. There were a number of issues with the food supplied for our party of 8. Only 1 was sufficiently bad to send back-the (small square of) belly pork with a roast, was topped by a a rubbery skin, as opposed to an expected crispy crackling, and the Yorkshire pudding had an inedible taste and soggy, stodgy texture. We were told it was Gluten free, but that wasn't something we had requested. It was changed with an apology, for a roast beef dinner, which was much more acceptable. Generally diners found carrots to be undercooked, but that could be personal taste. The sausage and mash came in a bowl, swimming in gravy- a separate jug of gravy would have been better. Burger was overcooked and a bit dry. On the plus side, my stroganoff with pasta had tasty, tender meat and was filling, despite looking a smaller portion. It was nice to have red cabbage with the roasts. The staff were pleasant, but not overbearing. Previous visits, some time ago, were much better.

Longs Inn has a ground floor that is called Bedford Street Kitchen. We stopped by there for some food and although the place was very quite, in fact empty, we were well pleased with the quality of the food that we bought.First, a fish finger sandwich, now think Captain Birdseye fish finger between two slices of bread, is that what I got ?, no 3 fillets of cod cut to something larger that fingers by the chef and dipped in batter and deep fried served as a sandwich with tartare sauce, crisps and a salad. My wife had a home made red pepper and I can't remember the rest soup, but she said it was delicious !

Two of us call in on a Sunday lunchtime. We used to eat here a lot but have not been for the last few years and it looks like it had changed hands. We parked in their car park so entered by the side entrance. We did stand there for a few moments as the staff were serving in the bar area but as there was no other people in the restaurant and were seated fairly quickly. Within a short while two other tables came in. We both opted the same starter and main. Our starter was bubble and squeak with a fried egg. How disappointing this course was! We expected mash potatoes mixed with green cabbage, fried it with nice toasted brown bits, with a fried egg on top. What we got was mashed potato mixed with white cabbage (so it was all white) and did not seem fried at all, so no delicious crispy bits. Very disappointing. Our main were also disappointed as the roast potatoes were blonde, the meat chewy and the whole meal was not very hot. I think that it will be a while before we come back.

This restaurant is on the main street of Woburn. There is parking outside the door - if you are lucky to get a space. We had a Sunday Roast, which was good and the staff were excellent, kind and attentive, they couldn't have made our stop more pleasant. We opted for the 2 course option on the menu which was £15.95. A pint of Doombar came in at £3.30 but a glass of Merlot was a whopping £6.25! I'd asked for a large glass but it didn't look very large. If you have built in the time and want to avoid airport fare on your trip to either Luton or Heathrow - as it is an easy detour from the M1 - stopping here is an addition to your holiday.

I've been here twice for lunch and both times were equally good. I sat in the small restaurant which is on the other side of the bar. I guess it's the size and the way that its laid out that makes it feel quite intimate. Although both times there were families, couples and parties of friends which showed that it comfortably caters for all. The food was really good, not bland or generic as can so often be found. This was a really good experience with the dish being well cooked and fresh. I asked the waitress to say thank you to the chef and what was really nice was that she took her time to explain how the meal had been prepared. That was a thumbs up for me. I wish I'd taken the name of the waitress because I've seen her both times and she was really good, light, pleasant and caring. The other great point is that they have a really lovely outside dining area. I'd definitely recommend this place.

The staff were efficiency personified and everyone dining felt really happy with everything, the first time ever. The food was absolutely superb. Throughout the entire process from enquiry to completion they were fantastic. I issued them with instructions for various little idiosyncrasies that we always have and they got everything just as we asked. Again, the first time any venue has. Just happened to be wandering around Woburn village of a Tuesday lunchtime and fancied a bit of light lunch so wandered down the main street and came across Longs.Lovely little place that had real ales and proper coffee and that didn't try to force you into a "full on" lunchtime meal. The good lady had the soup of the day (Spiced Parsnip) and I had a nice wholemeal sandwich with proper hand sliced beef therein !Washed down with a couple of coffees (served in nice mugs with proper handles that I can get my fingers into - I hate the tiny cups with tiny handles !) the whole bill was just under £15 so very reasonable and not much more than "fast food".If you happy to be wandering around Woburn Village (and it's antique shops) then pop in - if you like the charm of an old village pub you might just like it too !

Our large collection of food allergies was no problem at all. Everyone said their food was very nice - my fish and chips was lovely. I had a Malbec by the glass and that was fine too. The meringue in the eton mess was a bit tough, but we'll forgive them. There were still empty tables when we left, peak time on warm Friday evening, and that's a shame because the restaurant deserves another visit. Good straightforward food.

We wanted to stay not too far from Milton Keynes and found Longs Inn; not quiet sure what to expect as mixed reviews. Our bedroom was newly painted (rather slapdash and smelt of paint) but clean and fresh. The bed was rather rickety but comfortable. The toilet had a saniflow which, whilst appreciating installing plumping in old buildings can be challenging, is not acceptable for £95 per night. And it's not the fault of Longs Inn, but this lovely village is spoilt by heavy goods vehicles passing through all times of day and night, and if your bedroom is at the front of the building will disturb you.We had a pint of Doombar in the bar which was okish, but the menu was pretty unappealing so went else where to eat.Now I am a bit of a breakfast fiend; I love my breakfast and could eat a proper cooked breakfast everyday without fail. But I avoid carbs, so instead of the full English I ordered bacon, 2 eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes, which were quiet nicely served but the portion sizes were on the mean side and the eggs over-cooked.All in all Longs Inn is okish. Can't get excited, on the other hand, if it suited I might stay again. I felt it was a little over priced but not a rip off by any means. So okish is the best word I can think of to sum up my review.

This is an ancient inn currently undergoing refurbishment. We had booked a twin room on the ground floor but were asked if we wouldn't mind taking a double room upstairs which we did. This was a mistake because access to our room was up very steep, narrow stairs as befitting an ancient inn but with no suitable hand rail. Would be very difficult for people more elderly than myself and those with limited mobility. Our room had just been painted and the smell of new paint very strong, especially as the windows were closed. Once opened the only way to keep the windows open was to use either a book or coaster! The room was very clean but basic and in my opinion over priced. The positives were staff friendliness and the food at breakfast good. Having other friends in the hotel with us made the stay enjoyable and fun but would I go again, sorry no.

Tables sticky and on the tilt, service ok but food poor didn't eat most of it and at nearlly £100 it was far from worth it.The grapes on the goats cheese salad were sour and the goats cheese was old, the chicken wings were greasy, the steak was very leathery and had no taste there really was not anything worth writing home about. There are plenty of other restaurants in Woburn that are worth the money so would advise anyone to look elsewhere it really really was not worth it. Left the restaurant feeling hungry and in need of a shower due to the lack of cleanliness. I think the thing that finished it off was one of the employees coming downstairs in their PJ's and helping themselves to coffee. Get a grip there is plenty of competition. Think we should have walked out again when saw there were only a couple of people in it.

Sat outside in the courtyard - iniitially no service out here but that changed when we ordered food. Staff friendly as opposed to professionally trained (not a bad thing). Eton Mess for dessert was to die forJust one minor comment (and mention as hospitality is my business). Watched with interest the staff cleaning a bedroom - very impressed with hoovering of doorstep. However windows above toilets have very very big cobwebs - I think just store rooms. The only reason I mention this is that if I was thinking of staying here, that would put me off - and certainly from the way we watched the maid cleaning, that would be an undeserved viewPUtting that aside which is more feedback for restaurant/hotel as opposed to important to the review, I would certainly come back here for a meal when next in Woburn - it is worth it just for the chips which are to die .....

Well when we returned at 7pm the chef had gone all out and changed most of the food already on the menu to accommodate us. I ordered calamari for starter and I wasn't disappointed - they were dusted in a light coating and were cooked perfectly - not always that easy to achieve! I then had ribs with chips and coleslaw - the ribs were really tasty and the meat was so tender - my only complaint would be that there were too many ribs - but the waitress had warned me that it was quite a large meal! My husband had steak and was pleased that the chef had cooked it just as he had asked - rather than cooking it how they feel it should be cooked! The waitress had told us that if we weren't too full we should try the chocolate brownie - she said that previous customers had said how nice it was. So we ordered one to share and it was delicious! A very nice meal in a friendly atmosphere - would definitely recommend Longs and am looking forward to eating there again soon!

This was an impromptu meeting up with family. The food was good and the staff very attentive but sadly it was very quiet and therefore lacking in atmosphere. Also it was difficult to understand with so few people in the restaurant that they had run out of one of the puds!

Lovely food and huge portions, would certainly visit again for the food which was excellent value. Service was very polite but it was chaos. They forgot the starter, food was slow coming. They had tables clearly marked s reserved but when the guests arrived they where not prepared and had not laid the tables. Not even enough menus to go round it seemed.....Avoid the coffee, great big cups but not that great if you are any type of coffee fan. So to sum it up, good food, good portions, polite service, nice venue but be prepared for some disorganisation.

Longs is a small pretty 1600's pub hotel that we've walked past many times but we're really glad we did finally walk in. We had a few good draught beers and snacks and then had thee different excellent value £7 main courses. The blue cheese burger with pickles and dill was delicious as were the pulled pork rolls and the chilli con carne. The extra crispy French fries were also delicious served in a trendy metal pot. The main was so good we shared a lovely home made brownie and tasty vanilla ice cream and had a super coffee and hot chocolate and marshmellows. The decor, service price and the friendly young waitress made for an excellent spur of the moment visit. We liked it so much we've booked for Christmas.

My parents were coming to stay for a few days and we arranged to meet them for a meal at the Longs Inn. I emailed first of all to arrange a table and ask if they did scampi and chips as this is my Fathers favourite meal and was told that they would definately hold a portion if it was not already on the menu. We ate in the bar as my parents wanted to bring their dog and we had a lovely evening, the food was really really good and the staff could not be more pleasant or helpful. Will definately be going back.

We needed to stop somewhere not too far off the M1 for an evening meal and stumbled upon Longs Inn on the High Street in Woburn. It was a little quiet for a Saturday night, but the menu looked good so we gave it a go.We were greeted warmly, encountered attentive waiting staff and the pub had a good local menu. Refreshing to find somewhere where the menu is seasonal, ingredients are sourced from locals and foraged fruits were used in the desserts.Unfortunately the last Venison Wellington had been ordered so we opted for partridge and a burger. The burger was happily enjoyed. The partridge came with turnip puree, savoy cabbage with bacon and a potato rashti. Everything was delicious and flavoursome. I would say that the partridge was a little overcooked; dry. The turnip puree tasted delicious but was cold. I would expect food to be served on piping hot plates, unfortunately these weren't. There wasn't enough gravy. We stayed for dessert and both enjoyed homemade raspberry sponge with custard. Again the plates were cold and the portion of custard was very small. Perhaps they could serve it in hot jugs to keep it warm?Overall we enjoyed our surprise impromptu meal after a long day out and would return if we were in the area. One other note, the music needs updating. There was a 90's compilation album that we heard three times on loop (!). Little tweaks to be made, but thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.A warm welcome, reasonable and delicious bite of local food.

After and action packed day at the safari park the Long Inn was the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing drink and some amazing food. Which we found out was all locally sourced and home made, the plum crumble was to die for. It was reasaonably priced and really good quality. It had a really nice and relaxed atmorsphere, the staff were very friendly. And I would defiantly go back again.

We stayed for three days (hotel reviewed elsewhere) and food was a real highlight. Don't go if you're on a diet! Great selection of loose gourmet nuts at the bar, measured out into a bowl, rather than the usual plastic packets. There are now ciders to choose from...beware the innocent tasting but lethal cloudy cider on draught! The breakfasts are superb, ranging from full English to Eggs Benedict to bacon sarnies in the best homemade bread ever, and the evening meal we had was just as good...rump steak which was lovely and tender despite being cooked rare at our request, and a pulled pork sandwich which was wonderfully tasty. I don't know where they source their food, but the pork products in particular were excellent. Afraid we couldn't manage pudding..sorry! There's a sausage and ale function this weekend (7 and 8 September)...seriously, get in there if you can. Their sausages and their bread will be to die for!

The breakfast was spot on everything cooked to perfection don't know where they source their ingredients but tasted fab. My daughter wanted something not listed on the menu and it was no trouble for them to do it for her. Everything on offer not only full English but eggs benedict, smoked salmon/scrambled egg, cereals etc.

called in for an inpromptue sunday lunch, what a dissapointment. staff didnt seem to know what eachother were doing ,got asked the same questions twice over and didnt listen to requests for extra gravy even though it was 30 seconds between checkback, tried to give beer when asking for a red wine and gave another lady customer a pint when clearly asked for a half. although the beef was tasty, the vegetables were few, the potatoes and yorkshires like bullets and the gammon overcooked . we didnt bother staying for dessert . very dissapointing.

The new owners have a solid plan for putting this business at the top in Woburn. They are making continuous improvements to all aspects. We attended a themed wine tasting, which was very well received by the patrons and this was accompanied by excellent food and attentive service. The 15 bedrooms, well stocked bar, pleasant restaurant, with good food, combine to make Longs a good place to just go for a drink, have a meal, organise a celebration or use as a base for attending weddings, " going on safari" or having a quite weekend break in beautiful Bedfordshire. Highly recommended.

At one time this must have been a traditional old coaching inn and in many ways still looks the part, but has also clearly had something of a contemporary makeover. It consists of a public bar to the left, a lounge/restaurant area to the right and a courtyard garden at the rear. It would appear that accommodation is also offered. It was very quiet on a recent Tuesday evening visit, and it looked as though all the punters that were there may have been residents. The public bar is currently closed for refurbishment, so unfortunately I am unable to leave much in the way of a detailed review for this. The landlady was friendly and helpful. The lounge and restaurant off to the right consists of a small lounge area at the front with just a couple of tables, leather arm chairs and a sofa. Further back it opens out in to the restaurant with a small bar counter dominated by a coffee machine. This has quite a contemporary feel with wooden boards on the floor, khaki green paintwork on the walls with white detailing elsewhere and a number of black ceiling and support beams. The tables were all laid up for food and the chairs were of the upright, brown leather variety. A couple of arty black and white photos were hung on the wall and there was a brick fire-place. From what I could see of the bar this had a tiled floor and a large brick fire-place with a wood burning stove as well as some exposed brick wall elsewhere. The menu was fairly succinct, and appeared to be aimed slightly higher than your usual “pub grub”, but certainly nothing too gastro-like. Most of the mains were around the £10 mark and consisted of option such as smoked haddock fishcakes, sausage and mash and a venison burger. My meatballs with tomato and basil pasta and garlic bread was a decent enough dish and generously proportioned. Possibly the price was slightly ambitious at £10.50, but I’ve no complaints and would happily return to try something else.Beers on tap were the local Fenny Popper from the Concrete Cow Brewery and the ubiquitous Doom Bar. The solitary cider was Strongbow, unfortunately.

Visited for lunch on a friday as walk in customers.Opted to eat in the bar rather than the restaurant. Very welcoming with log fire, comfy chairs and newspaper. We were the only ones in the bar but others in the restaurant side.We chose the set lunch deal, £11 for glass of wine, starter and mains. Not huge choice but adequate. I had soup which was excellent and fish and chips. small portion of fish but very nice and a few chips -not home cooked. The meal was fine but needed a second veg or side. Partner had Sausage and mash which was excellent. Service was very friendly and would go back but woud try full menu.

We booked afternoon tea for four about a week in advance, this was dealt with by the event organiser who couldn't have been more helpful, When we arrived the staff were waiting for us and conducted us to the old library where a single table was prepared for us. We had expected to be in the restaurant and to have a private room was a real treat. Our party included a vegetarian and a gluten intolerant guest. The Chef had prepared separate plates of sandwiches for these two as well as a seperate stand of glutent free cakes. There was a good variety of sandwiches which were obviously freshly prepared and well presented, the cakes and sweets were varied and excellent. The service was A1 and unobtrusive, fresh tea being brought in on request. We all really ate too much, but the food was so nice we just had to clear the plates :-) A very special afternoon for us and we shall return. We do enjoy an afternoon tea when we can ~ our overall service experience here was far better then at Woburn, much quieter and personal than that at Frosts at Willington and better service and fresher food than the at the Swan in Bedford,

First thing - empty at least 7 mixed tables free THIS WAS Empty AT LIKE 945 AM , Staff looked down their nose as if we knew they were FULL! Then said after being approached- we are full , never even asked what we wanted - and that would have been what 15 minute drink? We had no wish to eat I am shocked in attitude and ethos of the place - would not be willing to recommend or re visit
