Longnor Fish and Chip Shop and Tea Room in Staffordshire Moorlands

Friendly staff, tasty food and good size portions. We had 4 large chips and sausage and 2 gravy and at £26 I thought that was a pretty reasonable price. We had take out but there was a few tables for sitting in.

Not bad at all, we wanted something impromptu while driving home, fish was cooked as it should and good home chips. Parking outside was a problem but would call again

Lost our cash and went along hoping they would accept a BACs or a cheque. No chance. Even though we had placed a phone order they refused our custom because we didn’t have cash.

Ok food but would never return because of very rude staff. If you are going to roll your eyes at each other because a customer has no cash then at least make sure they can’t see you do it. No customer skills whatsoever.

Great fish and chips! As there was a large group of us we contacted them before hand to see if they could accommodate our large order. The staff were very friendly and helpful and fulfilled our order brilliantly. All the food was just as we had asked for. It was good sized portions, piping hot, and tasted delicious 😋 We would definitely recommend and return here again. Thankyou!

We got a chippy tea from here at the end of our camping trip and to say we were disappointed is an understatement. Best part of £40 for average fish & chips for 3 plus a small sausage for our dog. I'm not tight and I'm happy to pay for great food, but sadly this wasn't.

Visited before and was looking forward to it to find out its changed hands. Service was great very efficient but that's the good point. The food was below average served on large polystyrene trays but chips only just came to the edge swimming in gravy. The sausage was the cheap beef sausage. Pudding was OK but mushed under chips again flat to the edge. Had 2 sausage &chips 1 sausage chips and gravy 1 pudding chips ad gravy £24! Won't be going again!

Disgusting! Fish was really small and chips we're just bits of potato fried which was very hard and dry! £45 for food which was of very low standard. Would certainly not recommend

Customer service: Rude and abrupt, although the young lad is friendly and helpful. Food: Average. Definately not “the best in the Peak District” but ok. Portion size: smallest I’ve received in any chippy in the UK. Cash only.

Nice fish, below average chips and curry sauce. Big issue of only taking cash. Unless know in advance then who carries much cash anymore. Not an issue except was told closest cash machine is 6 miles away in Buxton. Person in front of me's partner was driving there for cash, I had to go 2 miles back to our holiday cottage to get cash, on return someone was leaving th queue as had no cash. Don't recall last time came across an establishment that only takes cash, incredibly inconvenient for the customers, and when backed up with very average food it's all a bit odd.

Friday night Fish n Chips, lovely well presented ideally cooked and a very reasonable cost. Thoroughly recommend.

You get charged the top whack for fish and chips from this place but the fish portions are about half the size of normal. On the plus side everything is cooked to order. Mind you, having lived in Hull you get used to value for money and excellent fresh fish portions.

My local"Chippie". May seem a little slow as they ask you your order on arrival and put in your fish then. No greasy fish pre cooked and waiting. Result some of the best Fish and Chips you will find anywhere in the Peak District.

We drove to Longnor from Wetton on a cold, dark winter's night (Friday 17th January) to get fish and chips for six people, having been told they were good, and having seen an advertisement for the shop in a local magazine for the villages, saying it was open. When we got there there was a notice on the door saying they were closed as the owners were on holiday. What a poor way to run a business- don't advertise you're going to be open if you're not...it's easy to cancel or amend an advert. There are no excuses.

We were staying at a local holiday park & I did a bit of 'googling' to find a local chippy for our lunch . Limited opening hours so check them & and plan your visit . Worthwhile the visit , very fresh , hot & tasty fish & chips

I was really looking forward to my fish and chip takeaway supper but sadly was very disappointed. The fish itself was tasty and not too greasy but the chips were awful I couldn’t eat them. They were slimy, greasy and soggy and no taste whatsoever. Maybe we went at the wrong time or day as a lot of reviews on here say “ best chips ever”. These I have to say were the worst ever chips I’ve had. Sorry. Staff were very friendly though and the cost was fine.

Decided to go the chip shop while waiting for the bbc one show rickshaw to pass through, however the shop was closed when we went to go in. However all was not lost as the lady very kindlet is in the side door and served us. The chips were amazing as was my steak and kidney pie. We’ve been Longnor a few times now but always missed the opening hours. We were not disappointed and really enjoyed it. And again a big massive thank you for serving us after you had closed it was very kind of you. Definitely be back again.

Wow, this is a fabulous chippy! Not stupidly expensive and great portion sizes! The chips are some of the best I’ve ever had! Fantastic!

Visited Longnor and found this chippy, polite friendly staff, placed our order and was served almost straight away, chips were cooked well, no grease. Pie pastry was a little soggy however it made it easy to eat using my hands and it was piping hot, just nice on a cool November day, will return again.

The fish and chips were so good last time that we have ventured out to try the restaurant option. Booking is essential. We booked early and were rewarded with the window seat. Service was prompt and the fish and chips as good as ever. This time we tried both the cod and the haddock. Both fish were fresh and white and hot out of the fryer with a light crispy batter. Chips were lovely too. All in all a really good find and one we hope to return to once again. It really is becoming our favourite chippy.

Despite living 1 1/2 hours away we visit at least once a month to this wonderful old fashioned fish and chip shop. We always eat in, the service is excellent and the food freshly cooked to order. The tea is great too. Staff are friendly and welcoming and we've never had fish and chips better anywhere. We will be back and often!

Whenever we stay at nearby Earl Sterndale we make sure we come here for cod, chips and peas. Last ate here in November 2018.

Visiting the chippy for the first time and delighted with the quality and portion size of the fish and chips. It would be even better had the fish been skinned rather than being left skin-on but very fresh and tasty anyway. Fish and chips are cooked to order.

During our stay at Longnor Wood holiday park we visited this chip shop. The seating area is very small (around 6 tables) but the staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. The prices are reasonable and the service is good. Would definitely come back again.

Longnor fish and chips are well-known and appreciated by locals and they are discovered by tourists every year. There is a choice of takeaway or eat in the cosy tea room where the small tables are covered with gingham cloths. We always go for fish, chips and mushy peas with a pot of traditional English tea. If you are especially hungry after a day in the fresh air this can be supplemented by bread and butter making a substantial meal.

Visited today been a few times now but this time chippy was open . Excellent food excellent value And free car park at the side n public toilets .

I go to this chip shop regularly and the quality is outstanding. I prefer to sit inside at one of the very few tables and eat my meal straight from the fryer. On very warm evenings I may eat them outside on one of the benches. Wrapping Fish and chips just makes them go soggy due to the steam. I can honestly say that I have never had better fish and chips anywhere - even on the east coast where there are some legendary establishments.

Whenever we stay in Earl Sterndale, just up the road from Longnor, we make a point of coming here for our tea on at least one occasion. We found the details in our cottage info book a few years ago.

We visited last year on holiday so came back again. I rarely eat fish from a chipshop because of the batter. However, here its cooked to perfection. Its very light not greasy. The cod is lovely. The chips which are a rare treat are delicious and not greasy. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting the village. You can eat in or take out.

Staying in Longnor this week and heard about the fish and chips shop. They are really wonderful - taste like fish and chips should and how they used to taste. Longnor is a small very attractive village in the peaks and it's great that they have a chippy like this. Do try if you are ever over this way - you certainly won't be disappointed

This is a proper northern fish and chip shop! It brought back many happy memories of my youth. We had cod, chips and mushy peas - sat inside (there is space for a dozen people) with a pot of tea. The portions were generous and it tasted fantastic. The staff were very friendly and we would definitely go again. (I was completely torn between ordering what I had and going for a Holland’s Steak Pudding with chips and gravy... maybe we need to go back again)

Ate here twice during our short stay in Longnor. Really tasty food cooked traditionally and the staff were really nice. Gets very busy around 5-6 (queues outside) but well worth it and the queues do settle down. Plenty of places to sit outside although they do have seating inside which we didn't try

The advertisement for this shop says “ A traditional fish and chip shop on the old market square- comfortable tearoom facilities.” Traditional and comfortable are the right words- with excellent freshly cooked food.

A friend and I had a late breakfast/early lunch here after exploring the village. We chose to stay in, and took a seat in the tidy, very cosy room to the side of the main counter.

I visited a while ago and enjoyed it immensely but recent visits haven't been so good. The last 2 times i visited the fish smelt fishy and were very strong tasting when I got them home. Fresh fish doesn't smell or taste strong. I didn't like that a battered sausage was fried in the same oil as the fish but I understand there is limited room. The chips are lovely and although the peas are bright green and very sludgy looking, they taste ok.

Batter on the fish is excellent. I was concerned as to whether it would be pricey, given some of the reviews, but £13 for two fish and chips and a side of mushy peas I think is pretty standard. Chips were good, but not as fantastic as the fish!

We used this place twice. I dont normally eat fish from chip shop as i do not like the batter but this was the best I had ever had. Definitely worth a visit. The owner and staff were friendly. I was surprised that such a small village was charging so much for their fish and such small chip portions. I do understand though, keep up the good work, don't be phased, I;m sick of horrible fat laden chips (yuk) and awful, strong tasting fish (old), tough hard batter. I have been to London many times and it can be much cheaper. But it is the best fish and chips I have ever had. beautiful thin chips, gorgeous thin batter on fish. Didn't like the mushy peas, too sludgy and day glow green but everyone's doing that lately. Anyway I will be travelling a lot of miles to buy a takeaway, its gorgeous and if necessary I will pay more, its worth it.Love that its open on Mondays when I'm feeling miserable about having to go back to work and not wanting to cook for everybody.

Called in when we spotted this little gem. Fish so white and fresh they must have a sea water tank in the kitchen. Batter as near to perfection as you can get. With great chips.
