Charlie Bassett's in Staffordshire Moorlands

Went for Sunday lunch yesterday for a family birthday celebration, there were 11 of us, including children... A massive shout-out to all the team, although it was very busy we could not fault the service... food was hot, plentiful and delicious and served on time, we could not fault it... it's worth a visit folk's, you will definitely see us again, well done

Fantastic... Stopped 2 nights on the camp site with friends. Table booked for 9 of us on Friday and Saturday nights. Excellent food and a very warm welcome. Sam was amazing. We'll definitely be back 👍👌

A nice Sunday lunch, but not enough veg

Me and my son have just come home from our second stay on the campsite! We love it here! Great pitches and facilities and the pub has an amazing atmosphere with incredible food! Won’t be long before we’re back again!

Absolutely beautiful meal I had homemade steak and ale pie with homemade chips. The portion was big great hearty meal

Really good, nice and clean, very warm welcome and friendly service.

We just stayed for 2 nights. Kev and Paul and all the staff could not have accommodated us more. Absolutely gem of a site. Immaculate facilities. Red hot showers. Beautiful cosy pub with great food and a log fire. It’s definitely going to be our go to site. We’re only 30 minutes away but where the site is you could be a million miles away. If it ticks all the boxes in the cold weather then can’t wait for the summer. Our next trip booked is New Year’s Eve unless we can sneak another weekend in before Xmas. Excellent night at Charlie Bassetts. Stayed overnight on the campsite, nice flat, hardstanding pitch with water & electric, picnic tables scattered around the site, peaceful, pretty location. Toilet facilities nice and clean. Pot wash area. Pub onsite which was fabulous. We were made to feel very welcome from the minute we arrived by all the staff and friendly locals, it was open mic night and what a night, the atmosphere was brilliant, all acts were fantastic. We will definitely be back very soon. Small play area, big playing field with football net. Food served in the pub looked delicious but we had already eaten. Good selection of drinks in the pub, outdoor bar areas with seating and a beer garden attached to the pub.

Awesome homecooked pies with proper chips. I am quite a large with a liking for food, and I could not finish it all. The pie was tasty, with full pastry, not a lid. Lovely food, reasonable price. Recommended!

Loved it. Last minute drop off and was probably one of the better places we went to in our camper. Guys were great, food was excellent, lovely sunny evenings with a nice cold drink. Loved the place.

We have just spent a fabulous 5 days in our motorhome with our grandchildren. The children themselves have asked for me to leave 5 stars and make a special mention of Sam who worked on the bar. She was extremely helpful and patient . Thank you All staff were friendly, the site is fab , super large pitches, great food , good prices . We arrived on Sunday to music and the place was buzzing it had a great atmosphere. I almost want to keep this a secret but I won’t be selfish and will recommend to friends etc. We will be back on our own soon😂

Didn't eat only had drinks and stayed on the campsite. The staff are so lovely and welcoming! The food looked incredible and was very reasonably priced. :)

Atmosphere in the pub was really nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. The site was very peaceful when we were there. The facilities were immaculate but there is only one shower for each gender. We will visit the site again if in the area.

Great little hidden gem, outdoor food and play area if the weather is good, and plenty of tents/ Umbrellas if not. Goats and Geese on the site with caravan and camping area.

Absolutely fab few days break!! The site is equipped for couples and families, the toilets and showers were accessible and clean. The staff were polite and helpful. The food, takeout style, pizza etc.. were reasonably priced and enough choice to suit all, although some confusion on actual opening times!!! The Sunday we wanted to order at 6pm, but were told they stopped taking orders at 5:30pm, even though their own website said 8pm!! Good job we had taken something with us to cook, otherwise we’d have had to unhook our tent from our van and go on the hunt out n about!! Which wouldn’t have been easy on a Sunday evening in the middle of nowhere, with very few shops a good drive away!!! And we’d had a few beers so we definitely couldn’t have 🫣 no worries, we know now!! Anyhoo there’s small animal area and swing park for the little ones, the pub, the food area, lots of space around our hook up, beautiful scenery to match this lovely lovely camp site. We will definitely return and would recommend to our friends.

Went as a family for a 45 year wedding anniversary dinner. Lovely pub, great food with generous portions - the value for money was amazing. Izzy who served us was kind, helpful and went above and beyond to make for a brilliant meal out. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone.

Love love love this pub. Gorgeous location. Car park is smallish but there is an overflow bit (unsure of size, never had to use it). Food is amazing & staff are so polite and friendly. One of our favourite spots. There's ducks & goats outside and a park as well!

We stayed at Carlie Bassett’s for two nights with our Motor Home. Had dinner in the pub twice, one night whilst watch a football game. Everyone was really friendly, the camping site was well maintained. We had a beautiful view of the countryside!

Good family atmosphere highly recommended

We went on the spur of the moment and Tuesday night is pie night. Only pies on the menu on Tuesdays and when the food arrived it was delicious. Big pieces of steak and the pastry was short crust like a good pie should be. Good portion size and very reasonably priced at £12. Well worth a visit.

Our first stay here lovely site very spacious for the motorhome good electric water waste water empty casseta. The gentleman driving the tractor very helpful when we arrived. And the manager very nice . Good helpful staff in the lovely pub on site. We will return. Lovely country side. Well done everyone.

The food here is very nice, we camped overnight, great atmosphere, the kids enjoyed it. The Pizza Hut outside was a really cool spot

Spent 2 lovely nights relaxing with family. Food was amazing and staff were really friendly and welcoming. Great place to stop pitches were well spaced out and had all you would expect. Only down side just 1 shower and 2 toilets but we managed perfectly well. Definitely book again.

Stayed for one night on campsite. Wished we had booked a longer stay . Staff were lovely and friendly. Great atmosphere , Food was great and reasonable price Definitely worth a visit and we will be coming back 5⭐️

Kids need to be supervised or stay in purpose built play area. Kids allowed to roam into overflow car park and campsite.

Fantastic food and welcoming feel

Always had good meals here in the past. This time the menu was very poor.mainly Tapas.Only half a dozen main meals. We were there on Thursday when they have a quiz. Locals standing over us wanting our table at 8.30 Will not be going again

The people here and very friendly and the pub has awesome pies. The food was so bomb. The steak and ale pie and fries are highly recommended. The bar tender made great drinks and was super accommodating. Thanks again for a fantastic experience!

Small pub with large outdoors area with park for kids and own campsite with all the mod cons. Staff very accommodating and helpful. Music was on Friday and Saturday night with a couple bands. Very enjoyable, excellent views. Next to a working cattle farm and a few token farm animals next to the campsite.

Food fine my husband thought there was not enough he had steak ale pie no vegetables??

Quintessential english countryside public house that welcomes Dogs. There is an array of beers, spirits, wine as well as soft drinks on offer. The coffee was exceptionally tasty too. Also serves food, which includes an exceptional vegetarian/vegan menu, all of a very high standard but at realistic prices. I will add that the meal I had was absolutely delicious!! Butternut & bean pie served with mash & roast potatoes, caramelized honey parsnips, cauliflower cheese plus a small pot of yummy gravy. My only complaint was that I didn't have the stamina for a dessert!! The pub is both welcoming & comfortable with a stove roaring away during the colder months. The bar staff, that I encountered, were extremely welcoming as well as helpful. Then there's a wonderful little campsite within the grounds of the pub with both hard as well as grass pitches, all with EHU. The hard standing pitches are gravel & they are all generously sized within a peaceful setting with countryside views. All the facilities were spotless & the shower room was heated. There is also a small farm holding area within the grounds, offering a home to a small quantity of sheep, goats, pigs & geese which I'm sure anybody including children would enjoy to see. During the summer months there is a barbeque area with outside seating. Plus a children's play area. For us Dog lovers, there is plenty of space to exercise our four legged friends along with countryside walking/hiking routes to enjoy. Overall this site was marvellous & I intend to visit again, but within the warmer months of the year. However, take heed, as I imagine that this site gets booked up really quickly, so book a pitch well in advance from spring onward!!! I HIGHLY recommend Charlie Bassets!!! Its all exceptional!!

From the moment the menus were thrown at us, and told to order at the bar, expectations were not high. 7 main dishes on the menu, of which 3 are burgers, and 2 basically the same, just one steak bigger than the other. Food quality was poor, chips clearly reheated from being cooked previously. Onion ring was lacking its principle ingredient. Inedible. When we complained the manager wouldn’t even come and talk to us, just offered a £10 discount on next visit, which won’t be occurring.

Inedible food, poor customer service and expensive. Very limited menu since my last visit in December. I regret to say that after this visit I can longer call myself a regular.

We spent 2 nights at the camoing site attached to the pub. The site is okay. The pub itself very good, great atmosphere. Open mike on Friday night was brilliant, lots of different artist playing to good standard. Saturday night also entertainment put on. Food on offer was Tapas, which was delicious but no other option after 5pm so if you want traditional pub food after this time its not the place for you. Staff were very friendly and helpful. All round a very nice experience and we will be back in the summer to camp again when theres more going on.

It's Christmas Eve and we have just had a lovely meal. Dog friendly which was brilliant as we have a new puppy that we cannot leave. Food was hot and plentyful. Staff were lovely and didn't rush us even though it was really busy. Atmosphere was buzzing. Thank you so much.

The food was very good. The bq rid as a starter was one of the best things I have eaten in a long time. Everyone in the group enjoyed the food.

What a gem, love this site and the concept, situated behind a village pub, this is definitely the way forwards. Great sized gravel pitch with its hook up and own tap, depending size & which way you put your van in, longer water and electrical cable may be needed. (Pitch 5). The pub was fantastic, cosy, warm & welcoming. Paul hospitality is 2nd to none, not only was he attentive really open to feedback and clearly proud of the pub and his staff. The food was amazing, great portion sizes and price. Draught beer a clear winner too! Daughter loved the small play area, the Halloween outside party and the small animal holding on-site. Well done too all the team, we will be back soon for another weekend of live music good food and drink. Graham, Cath & Sophie.

Got to be the worst breakfast I’ve ever had!! What hope have you got when the chef can’t cook an egg!!!! Didn’t even take the left overs home for my dog! Toast was stale bread and under done Bacon was tough and in my opinion under cooked as were the hash browns The poor girl serving was great but food was atrocious Never again!!!!….. better breakfast at Morrisons absolute waste of £30 no price reduction offered and from the pictures you can see there was a lot we weren’t prepared to eat

We stayed overnight in the campsite behind and had food in the pub. Food was delicious. Very tasty. I had the lasagna and my partner had liver and mash and he said it was cooked to perfection 👌 we were advised to book a table for the evening meal as it gets busy which was easy to do via Facebook messenger. We did book for breakfast which was a bit of a let down after the evening meal, bacon was dry and overcooked. However that didn't spoil our stay. Portions were more than enough and we found the place very clean.
