Long Johns Fish & Chips in Poole

Uninterested staff and poorly cooked, greasy food. The food portion size is a joke compared to what they charge for it, the place is uninviting and cold. The individual cooking was more interested in her paper than she was in what she prepared. When this place was the Oakdale Fisheries it was 1st class… now, you’re better off heading to the Tatnam or to Creekmoor to spend your money.

Visited this shop this week and to my surprise they do not offer regular chip shop vinegar & salt as they serve your order instead they give you sachets which in my mind is not the same! When I asked why they blamed it on COVID!! I can understand they may not want to have customers handles bottle but they should be able to do it as they are cooking my order.

Ordered standard cod and chips, it came in suspiciously stabled bag, should have realised it was a scam by the 10g weight. Drove home , opened bag and fish box.....there was a L shaped fish finger and 10 chips in bag. My son burst out laughing, how much did u pay he asked, £8 said I, why didn't u go to skates he replied, it was closed. Drove back and asked for money back , guy said size was standard, not sure what that meant, as this was the smallest take away portion ever. I want my £8 back, he was getting a bit aggressive, said I was talking crop...got my money back.

Popped in for large portion of chips & 2 pea fritters....£6.80. The portion was far from "large" and pea fritters (£1.50 each) were tiny. The food was well cooked, however due to the very disappointing value for money I wont be returning anytime soon : ( Well done for using paper bags tho - and saving us all from more plastic : )

I ordered for collection at 7:05, arrived at 7:00 waited 3 minutes so obviously freshly cooked, drove 2 miles home and all was piping hot and delicious

The "Disappointed.." reviews are clearly written by people who just don't like fish and chips! While serving in HM Coastguard in Weymouth/Portland, I honestly believed that you couldn't get decent fish and chips outside of Weymouth. Well, I was wrong. Oakdale Fisheries/Long Johns (Oakdale, Poole), is, I can honestly say, the best fish and chips I have ever had. Generously sized and freshly cooked fish, good chips, and friendly service. Burgers are nice too! Very proud to have Oakdale Fisheries/Long Johns as my local. Thanks, guys! Don't go changin!

Thought I’d try them one more time and disappointed again! Two standard cod and a large chips - £14.50 Got the food home and one piece of fish was nothing other than a thin fish finger and lots of batter Won’t be going back - told there are better fish and chip shops slightly further afield.

Ordered on phone and ready within 20 mins even on Good Friday! App wasn’t working but perhaps a busy period. Best Fish & Chips in ages and it had been a while due to so many disappointing ones! Not been here since it was Oakdale Fisheries. Chips were perfect and great you can order a lighter batter on the fish. Well done Long John’s- keep it up!

We had a family meal from Long Johns we felt the chips were OK (not the best we’ve ever had but most of them got eaten). However the Haddock was grey and disgusting, I only ate the batter so it was a complete waste of money. If you want good fish & chips make the effort to go to Chez Fred - 100% better!

I ordered small haddock and regular chips, small was definitely correct. The fish was extremely small and the standard chips was half the size of most chip shops. The price however was slightly more than a lot of chip shops. I was very disappointed, and won't be going back.

Click and collect ordered, just before opening on a midweek lunchtime. Ready 10 mins later, piping hot and delicious. Haddock and chips. Click and collect the way forward, no waiting in and out. Great value, tasty as it always tends to be. Keep up the good work!!

Placed an online order for delivery the food arrived promptly but we was missing a cheese burger. We was asked to go and collect the burger and I explained we couldn’t so Long johns kindly agreed to deliver the missing item. I was pretty disgusted to see the delivery driver trying to open our front door with the burger. Will certainly think about using this service again which is a shame as the food is quite good

Ordered food and was somewhat shocked at the price hike since lockdown. Queried the cost with the lady behind the till who proceeded to try and convince me of the cost of chicken and value for money. £4.20 for 6 chicken nuggets without chips! I then stood and listened to her criticise my comments to a colleague - warning if you wear a mask, you talk louder than you think. Next customer who came in tried to pay with cash, refused - didn’t know the Gov had told businesses to stop taking cash!

Ordered on a Saturday, early evening. Small queue, no big deal. I found the staff to be friendly and efficient, and my order was processed correctly. I have to say the resulting cod and haddock and chips were top draw - previously under Oakdale Fisheries they were pretty good, but now even better! I made the mistake of straying to the unfriendly and awful tasting fare offered by the chip shop at Civic Centre, Poole - never again! all in all, great value and a tasty meal had by myself and the family. lastly, pleased to see they have gotten rid of the ancient cans of carlsberg and blue nun bottles festering under the previous tenure - not needed!
