Went here for breakfast this morning and already have plans to come back. So much more interesting and tasty than eggs on toast! We tried the salmon, pork and sticky plum tofu - all amazing, especially the plum tofu. We also had matcha lattes which were really good. So glad this place exists, please don't go anywhere.

This place is absolutely EPIC! So refreshing to have a different concept amongst the sea of basic cafes. Such a good vibe, vinyl music playing, beautiful cups and plates, a mouthwatering menu that doesn’t disappoint. Truly worth a trip!! A friend recommended it and was worth the 30 minute drive across town to visit. Only wish it was near me. Thank you to whoever was bold enough to try something new! Hats off to you and wish you ever success with it

I feel so privileged a cafe like Lonely Mouth has opened in Bristol! Cozy cafe playing vinyl serving wholesome Japanese food. My companion got the special tuna set with rice, miso soup, kimchi and seaweed while I chose the French toast. The toast was very soft, the compote was tart and accompanies the dish well. I think I would prefer a savoury choice next time. They offer chazuke (rice with tea/broth) and other light brunch options. Price is not bad for the quality you get. The only suggestion I have is to have more ventilation. I was sat by the kitchen on the bigger bench and my eyes stung with the smoke.

A great place to try for something different. They’d run out of salmon when we went but that didn’t matter as the spicy plum crispy tofu was the best tofu I’ve ever had! We had a cheese and kimchi toastie, a traditional breakfast and the chazuke.

Highly recommend this new Japanese listening cafe. Fantastic brunch, definitely going back again soon. I’ve been twice now and it’s consistently high quality and great service. Delicious Japanese food, amazing crispy plum tofu, comforting miso, homemade pickles and the French toast is a show stopper, truly the best I’ve ever tried. I understand this new gem on Gloucester Road is a female led start up which makes me love it even more ❤️ It is amazing and I’m happy to become a regular xxx

Delicious! I have come here a couple of times. First visit I tried the special, a creamy, velvety, salty, udon cabonara. My partner had the ochazuke which I of course also had to have a spoon of. Both dishes were fantastic, although took a while to come out. The cafe is new and it was a busy weekend, and so assumed they were still tweaking the efficiency in the kitchen. The food was well worth the wait anyway! My second visit was solo, on a Wednesday. I didn't need to wait long to hoon down my Japanese brekkie. It's a well thought out dish, keeping the customer's taste buds in mind: Plenty of Japanese flavours but not 100% traditional i.e. I'm so glad natto is not on the menu! 😅 The atmosphere is chill and the tunes are great. I look forward to coming back!

A bit underwhelmed from my experience here, though it’s possible the team may have been understaffed on the day. Had to clear someone else’s dirty dishes off of our table as did another set of customers. this would generally be okay if things were chaotic, but the colleague behind the counter didn’t appear to be overwhelmed. Ended up just getting a couple of toasties in the end, but at 1pm there was only the choice of 1 available. While the toasties were nice, they also took a while to arrive. Seems as if it was just a bad day going by other reviews

The ambiance and music were lovely and I loved the chazuke rice especially! I ordered the matcha strawberry cream drink and the only problem I had was that it was about half full with ice, which made it watery on the top, and the icecubes were big, so it was difficult to mix the strawberry cream into the drink and get to the best part at the bottom! If possible maybe offer ice to be optional or use less/smaller ice. The curry sandwich was good also!

As someone who’s travelled to Japan for multiple times, I can confidently say that the food is not the most authentic Japanese food that you can find. However, the listening cafe concept is great, and the food served is definitely very unique to the Bristol food scene. The crispy tofu breakfast tastes amazing, but will be better if a greater variety of flavours is offered in the meal (the same seasoning is used for both the rice and the tofu). The music is relaxing despite being a bit loud - great if you’re working alone but not very helpful if you’re trying to hold a conversation. Would like to visit again and try out the chazuke next!

Beautiful restaurant, gorgeous and vibrant atmosphere and food experience, reasonable prices. I absolutely recommend! The traditional breakfast tray took a bit long to arrive (30+ minutes) and would’ve liked more attention / service from the staff, they were also out of salmon unfortunately. Would’ve given it 5/5 if not for those things, but amazing otherwise and food is worth the wait. I would keep coming back if I lived close!

The kimchi toasty comes at second place for me, but my friend actually preferred it over the katsu one. The iced matcha with strawberry cream was very good, I personally would have enjoyed more strawberry cream as it did get mixed in. The dining ware is beautiful. Great music, great food. Very different. If you're tired of avocado on toast, go and sample Lonely Mouth. Small menu but big flavours. As a family of four, we spent £80 on food and one drink each. Everything was correct, but the food was great. Delicious pickles, nicely cooked rice, an okay miso soup, a spicy sauce offered with the food that wasn't spicy, and a very well-cooked and flavoursome piece of salmon. Everything was delicious and made with care and arrived promptly. All accompanied by great tunes. We will be back to try other dishes like the toasties. What a great idea and concept. I hope they get some success out of a tricky location. Go and pay them a visit.

My girlfriend and I had our first experience here this Sunday, where we tried the limited tuna belly over rice. Truly an incredible meal, from the perfect seasoning of the miso soup, to the insane quality of the fish (easily the highest grade tuna I’ve had in the UK), to the perfect portion sizes. The ambience was great, felt very cozy and the music was relaxing and not overly loud that it detracted from the mood. Staff are lovely, atmosphere is fantastic with the chill music, often very relaxing hip-hop. The drinks are great, with plenty of options both familiar and a little bit more unique. The food is, undoubtedly, some of the best I have ever had and definitely the best breakfast I can find in Bristol. It just makes me feel happy and my soul lights up whenever I have it. If you are in Bristol, weather visiting or you're a local, you owe it to yourself to try this. Especially if you like any kind of Asian cusine.

I was so gutted!! people have been raving about this place but the best thing was the decor. the treats we had were so dry, it was a cookie pie and a filled cookie, I feel like maybe they had been out for a while in the heat?? I couldn't finish mine. the coffee was mid, towards the end it tasted like they had either reheated the milk or the milk was gone off. we also had a matcha with strawberry cream I think cost like £6+, the entire glass was full of ice and there might have been like 3 mouthfuls of the actual drink in there. and the matcha was premade :( I was so sad!! the girls really didn't seem interested in serving anyone which was also really disheartening. I loved the decor but it felt like all style and no substance. I can't say what the cooked food is like since we didn't have it but hopefully it's the saving grace of this place. the entire thing was £21 and honestly I feel a bit scammed.

Wasn't sure what to expect as the menu on Google is from a previous incarnation, turned out to be short and unusual menu of big rice based breakfasts, french toast, toasties, and cakes The Japanese breakfast was excellent, especially the incredible plum tofu. It was also huge; enough for an evening meal. My partners Chazuke with salmon was also good and similarly satisfying, though he preferred mine. I'd love if there were a few more lighter/takeaway options; maybe a half size portion as a bento box, or just the plum tofu in an onigiri. Having said that, the toasties did look amazing, and the matcha latte was delicious and beautiful. Fab and interesting soundtrack too. Left feeling hip and full.

I've been here twice now and both times brought me so much joy. I don't know the owner but on both visits there were streams of people popping in and wishing them the best. Obviously proud of their friend and for good reason! The vibes are great The food is top notch (great vegan options) The drinks are wonderfully made And the music was on point! My husband ordered the traditional breakfast and I ordered the French toast (both times). The sour plum tofu (of which I stole from him) is crazy flavorful and the French toast (of which I did not share) is so decidant! My one gripe, if you can call it that is: We were waiting for a larger table but didn't know there's more in the back. There is! A sign above the door way by the tills pointing to extra seating and the loos may stop people from poking their nose in and thinking it's full and leaving but it was quite busy so that's probably not a problem! Can't wait to see how this spot, and it's menu evolves. Love it!

Had the loveliest Japanese breakfast on Friday! Really brightened my morning, each little dish is incredibly flavourful and perfectly balanced, in all its little ways - temperature, presentation, flavour profile etc. Loved that for the pickles and miso soup, and the tofu was insanely good too. It was expensive, sure, but was well worth the price! One small thing : my drink was too icy, which diluted everything, making it hard to enjoy the taste (I had the matcha with coconut water). THE best burgers and THE best fries in Bristol by a mile. I’ve tried all the other top-notch burger spots and nothing compares to Squeezed. It is elite. It is amazing. It blows my mind every time. Thank you. Holy cow.

Beautiful venue with delicious cocktails and wonderful staff. Music a little too loud for me but looking forward to visiting again!
