Lochmaddy Lounge Bar in Eilean Siar

We thoroughly enjoyed excellent food and perfect, efficient, friendly service in the comfortable bright modern surroundings of the lounge bar. We couldn't fault our meal, having chosen the venison pie and the vegan option. Both were delicious with fresh, nicely undercooked vegetables. We'd recommend dinner at Lochmaddy Hotel and we shall return.

Served the most delicious food all day. Very fresh and good service. Prices are reasonable and menu varied.

We have been to Loch maddy Hotel three times in our two weeks on north Uist, but regularly over the 15 years we have been visiting the island. The first time on our own, we noticed the service was poor, however food was good. Second time we came we went with family, about 8 of us. The lovely gentleman that was working the bar was chatty and friendly and even put a dessert to the side for me as there was only one left I liked. However, you are not encouraged to eat the desserts in the restaurant, they are served in a take out box, and you are not offered a menu or asked if you would like to know about the desserts once your table has been cleared. Once you have your food, you aren’t asked how it is, or checked on in any way, you have to go to the bar for anything else other than ordering food. Staff are borderline rude, other than the jolly man with red hair who was working the bar. On the third ( and last) time we visited we opted on a take away option, we sat and waited in the restaurant for our takeaway. A blonde lady dropped it on the table infront of us, didn’t say a word until she dropped one of the boxes on my foot on the floor, she said sorry and I picked it up. She started talking across the bar to another worker about one of the staff that had gone outside. She quickly disappeared without a word, and we left. When we opened our meals, the fruit salad and drink advertised to come with the children’s meal wasn’t there., which is shocking, considering it cost £33 for a cheese pizza, kids nuggets and a burger. The rest of the food was ok, and the fact we ate it overlooking a beautiful beach nearby made it much more enjoyable.

Food comes fast and is ok but service is dreadful. I appreciate that there’s a staffing shortage but some of the young women working here need some basic training in hospitality - especially the one with the brown pony tail and glasses: unfriendly, unhelpful, brusque at best and at points downright rude, Can’t recommend. This place could do so much better.

Having arrived for a family meal with adults in the party, my 19 year old daughter was asked for proof of age as ordered an alcoholic beverage. As she didn’t have any proof of identity the gentleman Paul agreed to serve her the drink but stated “ he has asked the question” I offered at that point to go to our accommodation to collect my daughters proof of identity but was told there wasn’t any need. As we ordered the next drink it was declined on this occasion by Paul as my daughter didn’t have her proof of age. I at this point left to collect the identity in order not to embarrass my daughter any further and for her to enjoy a drink with her meal. On my return my meal had been served and was verging cold. When I went to the bar I highlighted this as an unsatisfactory situation, not the question about proof of identity but the attitude of this member of staff. My daughter had been there the previous month celebrating her 19th birthday with a family meal and drinks. We were not asked for any proof on that occasion. What is very disappointing is that if Paul was only willing to serve one drink (this was not clear)I would have gone at that point to collect the proof of age. Also the fact that his attitude was abysmal when I returned, asking to check the ID card twice as though it was a fake item! Very disappointing experience having had an excellent experience on our previous visit. However the other 3 members of the Team were excellent as they had been on our previous visit. We will not be returning!

This place is fine for meat eating pub food, their burgers/fish/pie and chips were all fine. But the vegetarian options are really poor, I tried two of their vegetarian options, both were tasteless, bland and derisory portions. I’ve visited the bar many times over many years, usually with birdwatching groups I take to the island & was very disappointed, this year. Despite mentioning it twice to staff I was offered nothing, just told they would mention it to the chef.

Great bar and restaurant, friendly staff and beautiful tasting food. Will definitely go again. Will advise to book if you want to go as it's a popular place

The lounge bar area is lacking in any character which is a shame but we ate here after a poor meal at Hamersay House Hotel where we were staying (see separate review) and really enjoyed it. The food was simple but decent quality, well cooked, hot and excellent value. We had a beer, a soft drink, 2 mains, a pudding and a malt whisky for under £50. If you're staying in Lochmaddy it's recommended.

Myself and my wife Yvonne stayed over 5 day stay. The staff and bar staff were tip top we were made to to feel very welcome nothing was to much trouble.. our hotel room was spotless and everything in hotel was spot on we will definitely be coming bk to UIST to Lochmaddy Hotel. Thanku to all staff. Who were all family orientated 😁👌💯❤️

Had two dinners here as a party of four the food was excellent and the staff were attentive the only thing was the second night they had lost our booking but they still fitted us in great

Popped in lunch time for a beer outside in the sun,found service very good so popped back at night for bar lunch and a few beers and wasn't disappointed.

Stardust the night before but with a change in ferries we ended up having a late lunch before we went to Uig. Brilliant for motorbikes and cyclists. They have a wet room where you can dry off your gear while you eat. Smells like fish… but that’s ok as fishermen use he hotel on a very regular basis… we were delighted to have it . Lunch was lovely, it was busy so service was low but delicious.

Lovely lunch at the Lochmaddy Hotel. Great service, good food. A nice way to spend our final hours before heading home.

Went for lunch, one other couple in the bar. Asked if we had reservation, yes, shown to table. Ask if we had a smart phone as you customers have to place orders online :-) How ridiculous. I'm tech savvy but this app is a disaster. And why when the place is empty can't the barmen, who had little else to do, take the order at the bar. This isn't customer service, it's self service and if I want I can do that in a Mac Donald's any day! I would suggest customers refuse to use the app or else boycott the establishment. The food - narrow choice menu. Venison burgers were dry, good chips. Had ice cream for dessert, served in a paper tub with a little wooden spoon, this is a pub restaurant not a seaside café, why not serve with a normal spoon. Strikes me the owners want to run a no frills establishment. Well that's not for us and we will not be back. Cannot recommend.

We stopped here for a spot of lunch on our way to South Uist. The food was lovely and lots of options especially as cafes, shops and restaurants are sparse in the Hebrides! The food was really tasty and the staff were friendly. They also have an app to order food, which is a really new concept for the islands. They also have wifi, which is great as there is no signal.

Fantastic food at a great location, fantastic menu - really enjoyed the halibut with chorizo butter and the cakes and desserts were so good we had to have two!

Was looking forward to a hot meal before the ferry, had take out many times previously and food great. Restaurant/bar almost empty. Told to download and use app to order. After 10 minutes gave up, whilst barman wandered around seemingly doing nothing. Extremely poorly designed...

Had beetroot soup followed by beef casserole with vegetables. Good meal and filling. Vegetables not overcooked, really healthy. Beef was tender. Good value at £20 total. Efficient service from a young male waiter. Only downside was they don't give you a menu due to covid...

Rangers had won something so the pub was packed what a great atmosphere we went there for three Meals,they looked after the four of us brilliantly the food was great the staff were attentive

Staff very friendly. Room good size. No shower in the bathroom so very difficult to wash hair etc. Did not have a good nights sleep as happened to be there when cattle sales were on. Could hear the cows all night. The state of the...

Really tasty food here and great welcome. Hired a fishing boat from here - great advice and good boat. Went to watch Celtic play and even though it is a Rangers bar made very welcome. Highly recomend this place.

During my stay at the hotel I gad several bar meals in the evening in the lounge bar. The ambiance in the bar was very welcominv and the food consistently good. The menu changed regularly with many dishes using locally sourced produce.

Quite a big lounge bar with good service. Serves food which looks very good I think is the same menu as the hotel adjoining . Loch maddy is a quiet place and I believe this hotel/lounge bar caters for people who like to fish.

Ate here with my cousin and her niece one evening in the restaurant. Two of us were completely happy with our meals but my cousin (who had the same meal as me) found her lamb inedible and left about 80% of it. When paying the bill we mentioned the disappointing meal to the waiter who said he would mention this to the chef. Sadly we got no real apology and with hindsight we should never have paid the full price - the staff on duty were apparently not able to give any discount without the manager's approval and the manager was not available that evening!

Lovely afternoon tea . Cakes were wonderful looked great and tasted great. Very friendly staff nice atmosphere would definitely return.

Popped in for lunch and even though we were the first in we were greeted with a smile and invited to sit anywhere.

My wife and I visited this restaurant and were impressed with the menu selections from the menu and specials board. The meals we had was tasty and substantial. I had beef steak pie with chips and veg and my wife had breaded chicken, sweet chilli dip with chips abd veg and we both really enjoyed the food. Service we very good and wine reasonably priced. Well worth a visit.

Went here with high hopes for a lovely meal before heading to the mainland. Was poor quality pub grub and we were disappointed. Staff were very young and inexperienced and not great I'm afraid

Fuimos a cenar en el resto Angler's. El personal es bastante indiferente a los clientes y debería estar trabajando en algunas carrera aparte de la hospitalidad. El personal parecía estar capacitado para evitar que captura de la atención. Pedimos una segunda copa de vino en el transcurso de la comida que nunca llegó. La opción de menú es pobre y la comida era muy común. Cena para dos con una copa de vino cada alrededor de £35. Podrá hacer mejor en cualquier otro sitio.

Friendly staff, large selection of food including specials on the board however the food was pretty average. Standard bar meals. Hotel was very busy, booking is recommended in the Summer.

El personal es muy servicial y amable, pero la comida es mediocre. La zona del restaurante no es muy atractivo y los asientos son o en baja, o las mesas están demasiado alto ya que tienes que llegar a comer, muy extraño. Es una pena, ya que el hotel podría estar mucho mejor. Una ventaja para nosotros era los perros nos dejaron entrar.

No hay una enorme selección de opciones en Lochmaddy, pero incluso si me alegraría volver aquí otra vez. La variedad del menú era buena y cubierto más opciones. Agregar una buena selección de cervezas y licores, cervezas no hay mucho de este lugar no ofrece.

This is a very good pub and restaurant with a good choice of food from the standard menu and daily specials. I would be very happy to eat here and recommend it highly.

Came in to the bar on a Thursday night looking for a bar meal but it was full. Staff very helpfully offered us a table in the restaurant though and I'm glad they did. Service was excellent and the food was lovely. The portion sizes were massive and I couldn't finish mine. The restaurant was a lovely, bright airy room with beautiful views out over the loch.

Stopped overnight at the hotel. The restaurant was fully booked but there is a full bar menu in the lounge bar. Had the fish n chips. Cooked to perfection. Very crispy batter and perfect chips. Good selection of beers at the bar. Great staff. Downside for solo travellers is that it gets very busy and all the tables are for four so be prepared to share a table!

Rappers on a blaring television.; tables that you had to reach up to; canteen-like seating; fried and microwaved food. Why bother?

Went for a family lunch before the ferry. Chicken strips and fish and chips were nice. Kids pizza was dry and uninspiring, I had the cod steak from the specials menu, was tasty enough but the portion was tiny, very disappointing considering it was the most expensive item we ordered. Like everywhere else on the islands it was expensive

We came here for lunch, we had the dog and they let him in and even gave him a very big burger that he loved free or charge, the food was lovley and the staff whers great and very friendly, i didn't stay in the hotel but the restaurant is definitely worth a visit and i would go back, if you like your whiskey this place has a big variety

Most of the food is homemade and very nice 'pub grub. Friendly staff, although they seem to have more fun with eachother than with their guests. Did not bother us much though. It's a pub and not a Michelin star restaurant. We had a nice evening enjoying the food.

Very poor and inexperienced service. Long wait between different mains arriving. Soggy wet napkin around the wine bottle. Ran out of cheesecake when we were the first customers of the night. Dirty windows in the RESTAURANT! what would have been nice views were obscured by bird poop on the windows. Limited menu. Poor food. Very disappointing. Definitely wouldn't go again with so many other good restaurants on the island.

Despite a power cut (not their fault I hasten to add) Four adults and two kids were very well catered for. Great that there is somewhere open all year and not just in season. I will continue to visit when up on Uist, good value tasty food (and big portions)

We thought the food was very good and very reasonably priced. There are very few places to eat on the island so this is a great place to try. Sea views from the front of the hotel are a bonus.

We had not booked and had to wait for a table. All the tables are for 4 and most we occupied by couples or single people. If some of these were replaced by tables for 2 which could be pulled together for 4 it would seem to be a better use of space. However it may be a ruse to get people to eat in the dining room which was much more expensive.Food was typical pub grub but nicely cooked and served and the staff were very pleasant.

It has been quite a few years since I have been to the Lochmaddy hotel, years back if you had a spare few quid this as the place to head at the weekend for entertainment, and even back then it was still quiet.Since those days are way gone and trends change the hotel has had a bit of a face lift from the inside as well as new management.The bar area looks welcoming with plenty of seating with a well stocked bar, especially the selection of whisky that puts most other places to shame, the restaurant is located at the other end of the hotel, if you are logged on their wifi it would Knock it out as it's quite far from the bar area.We had booked as a table of 14 at 6pm and where seated pretty quickly, strangely the waitress asked us what we wanted to order without showing any of the 14 any menu's asking what main courses we where wanting to order, before offering any starters, then soon came back to offer any of us soup?When l asked what was the soup the young girl didn't have a clue and had to return back to the kitchen. The main courses was an option of roast beef, poached chicken or venison casserole, and the sweet option being only sticky toffee pudding, if I knew this was the menu I wouldn't have even bothered turning up.In the end the food was fine, but the gravy was rather salty.On paying the bill most of us decided to split the bill with a two course on the menu being £10 and the three course £15. Strangely I was the only one in the group that was over charged by £5 this may be an OK place in the summer months for the tourists but knowing that I was overcharged would make me not trust the staff and not return.Overall Atmosphere 2/5Food 3/5

Called in. Made very welcome and dog made welcome too . Fresh water for him and good ale for us. Had a meal. The scallops were very nice. All in all a great night.

Went on the off chance to have a bite to eat on our way home and we weren't disappointed at all. Both my partner and myself had great food and it was quick at being served.The bar was quiet which was fine the food was fresh and very tasty and we made sure we went back before getting the ferry.

Try the burger, you won't be disappointed. One real ale but not enough to tempt me. Was driving anyway so stuck to a pint of Tennents.

We stayed in Lochmaddy one night and ate dinner here. We booked the restaurant part and got a seat at the window which was lovely as you're directly across the road from the water. Staff were really friendly as we found on both Barra and Uist, and we enjoyed a good natter with them. The food was lovely although we did hear someone else complain at the end of their meal. (As their table was next to ours we also overheard them saying they did this a lot and got money off their meals so not sure how sincere the complaint was?!) Anyway, our food was perfect and we enjoyed our meal and felt like we had a night out as we had a couple of drinks in the bar after dinner.

Stopped in here for some food as recommended by some locals. On first impression it's a lovely lounge for food and all the whisky you could imagine. Sat for 15mins at table and had no service after waitress looked at us umpteen times. Went to the bar to order starter took about 15 mins and was lovely , had the mushrooms . For main the chicken goujons. Batter was overdone and could tell that it had been done in the same oil as the fish. Asked 2 different waitress for ketchup and neither managed to get it. Bill was reasonable for the type of food and location. Staff need to be more customer aware .

There are not a huge number of places to eat in Lochmaddy but there are enough in and around to provide a little competition. The Lochmaddy hotel bar has great potential and sometimes gets it right. There is an extensive range if whiskies and a decent atmosphere. I'd love to give a better review but our experience on this occasion was not great. We didn't not feel particularly welcome on arrival. No one acknowledged us until we asked for a table. However we soon sat down and ordered. The waitress proved to be very friendly and helpful. Our starter was good. But the main courses arrived sometime apart. Eventually, I began to eat my meal which was pretty decent although the chips were undercooked to my taste. However when my wife's meal finally came I had eaten a lot of mine. She cut into her duck to find it in her opinion far too rare. This was a surprise as she hadn't been asked how she wanted it cooked. The blood ran into the rest of her food and she felt unable to eat it. While this was happening the table next to us were being rushed to decide on a desert because the kitchen was apparently closing. Under these circumstances my wife felt that she shouldn't ask for something else instead. We were not asked to pay for her meal but this didn't really make up for the generally underwhelming experience.

The lounge bar has been modernised and updated since my last visit and the ambience was very pleasant. The staff were hard working, polite and diligent. However the food was expensive for what one got. I maybe made a poor choice but my companion's choice did not look much better. My recommendation would be to reduce the choice on the menu and provide more freshly made or sourced food.

We had cycled many miles in the morning in pouring rain so we popped in for a main meal even although it was lunchtime as restaurants aren't too plentiful on the Outer Hebridies. What a great 2 hrs we spent, eating, drinking and mainly drying out. The lounge was full but we sat in the bar and had a super lunch, the homemade fish pie was amazing. The gents toilet has a massive radiator so our socks and shoes were super dry for the next leg of our wet cycle to Seal View B&B. They also had a wonderful whisky selection, of which we sampled a few, before heading back out in the rain. Staff ever so friendly and helpful.

We went here on two nights each time the staff were great and the food good value. The main bar was full one night and ate in the restaurant with a good view out to sea at the same price!.

I've never like a place so much and only given it 3*. I wanted to like it more and rate it higher, but there seems to be a self destruct button which the staff or owners feel the need to hit at fairly regular intervals. Lochmaddy itself is a surprisingly attractive little town and the same feeling hits you on walking into the lounge. There was a lovely atmosphere and buzz and very friendly staff. We came back that evening for dinner and were shown into the full dining room. The food was perfectly fine until dessert when the waitress had to come back 3 times as each order - recommended by her - were sold out - the staff should surely be made aware BEFORE taking orders? fairly basic?We retired to the lounge and undeterred came back again the following evening, this time determined to order dessert before my starter to ensure I got one, but....they didn't have any beer!! No gas apparently. Aaaahhh! Bottled beer and an overcooked fish I could have knocked nails in with put a bit of a dampener on proceedings. The (slightly ageing) waitress could not have been less interested and I heard another table say they were too scared to complain to her! It's such a shame because they've got a lot of plus points and a welcoming atmosphere is worth buckets, but please - make an effort??

Visiting early evening, we found the staff to be friendly, but the service rather slow. The menu choice and food were very much pub food, emphasis on quantity rather than quality. Dissapointingly, although the boards outside talked about local produce, there was very little, if any, fresh fish on the menu. An average pub experience.

Good atmosphere and welcomingA lot of restaurants in the Outer Hebrides serve locally sourced food. But a fish and chips is still a fish and chip and most restaurants will stick to basic grub. Not this one, beside the regular, some nice meals with a twists are available and so are their selection of beer.This was the best place we ate by miles. They also offer shower facilities for passers.

Friendly bar and lounge with a excellent selection of reasonably priced food. Large portions don't disappoint in taste.

Having called for coffee during a walk, we decided to return for the evening.The welcome was first class, with very chatty local girls. The bar was quite full so we invited to wait in the residents` lounge and we ate in the dining room. We had fish and chips and it was all very enjoyable.The hotel was very clean and warm.There is a huge selection of whisky. Helpful and cheery young man behind the bar.

Our first visit to the lochmaddy hotel in 10 years. Not much had changed. Lounge bar was pretty much the same. The staff, however serving us were very friendly and helpful. We ordered our meal which took a while but when served both dishes were VERY average & over cooked. How can you ruin breaded haddock or scampi & chips? WELL They succeed! We were both very disappointed and won't bother going back again. £22 for two basic main dishes, not a great experience!

We arrived without a booking, which normally would not have been a problem, except for a prior booking of a group of 26, filling up the lounge. But our helpful waiter persuaded three other diners to move to a shared table, freeing up a four seat table for us. Everyone got to know each other in the process, so the evening was off to a good start. There was a wonderful fish pie, the choice of two of us, and the breaded scampi which the other two had was also good and satisfying. Ewe didn't linger after as we were off to a Gaelic concert in the local cafe, but hopefully we can go back, and sample some of the very extensive range of single malts lining the walls.

A really nice and friendly pub with the best view over the loch. The food was really good with real good sized portions

Obwohl uns das Lochmaddy Hotel von Einheimischen nicht unbedingt zum Essengehen empfohlen wurde, wagten wir vor allem ob der unverhältnismässig teuren Alternativen in der Umgebung einen Versuch und waren sehr positiv überrascht von den Räumlichkeiten, dem Personal und nicht zuletzt dem leckeren Essen in der Bar/ Lounge. Absolut empfehlenswert!

We arriv2d in pouring rain at a busy time. Staff weere friendly and found us a table. Food only took 20 minutex but they kept apologising b3cause of The Rush. We had a steak pie ( delicious but NOT a pie.... a lovely tasty stew in apot with a pastry circle on top..NOT a pie!) And a lamb steak . Beautifully cooked and lovely fresh chips and veg. After long day walkung it was just what we wanted!

We had a very tasty lunch on a windy/rainy day here in June. Staff were incredibly welcoming towards our 19-month old, and the food tasted the best ever.The whole lounge bar has been refurb'd since our visit in May '13, with new tables, chairs, décor and menu.The scampi and chips was yummy, and my son had a great kids pizza, chips & beans. Looking forward to returning next year.

Hi, we were looking for somewhere to eat.Went to this Resturant .The place was full.One table left.A lot of locals,which was. A good sign.each time somebody left,,people were waiting for the next free table.Ordered Fish and chips,and waited.Watching every plate that was brought out.They all looked delicious ,was presented very well.At last mine came.Imhave to,say they were wonderful,and so,much.Thoughtmi can't possibly eat all this.But i didn't want to leave any,so,I finished it.Also,the staff were great.bery friendly,quick service and came to the table .You didn't need to,gomUp to the bar.

The food is served in the Lochmaddy Hotel bar and the menu looked more promising than standard pub meal menu. Unfortunately the food I was served was only luke warm when it arrived after a longish wait, which really spoilt the meal. I suspect I was just unlucky and could well be that on another occasion it would be better.

Zwei der drei Bedienungen waren leider sehr gleichgültig und unfreundlich. Schade, denn das Essen war überraschend gut. Es ist die einzige Möglichkeit im März in Lochmaddy zu essen - alles andere ist noch geschlossen oder mehrere Meilen entfernt. Ich hatte das Hirschchili und das war wirklich gut. Etwas lieblos angerichtet, aber richtig scharf und fein. Mit Knoblauchbrot. Es gibt auch eine grosse Whiskyauswahl zu erschwinglichen Preisen.

We arrived at lunchtime on a Friday, very friendly service. There were a only a few patrons but it's a fairly isolated location. The cod and chips we thought were just slightly overpriced (11.90) until they arrived. Wow. Massive cod fillets in a light crunchy beer batter, good portion of chips and a fresh salad. Absolutely delicious and piping hot. We are visitors, so sadly unlikely to return soon, but can recommend this place to other travellers. Others meals we saw being delivered looked equally good.

Though not exceptional, this pub in the Lochmaddy Hotel serves good pub food and has a selection of good beer on tap or in bottles. It was a quiet lunch time when we visited, but the service was slow.Nice view of the sea loch.

We asked in the Tourist office next door if the Lochmaddy Hotel served food around 3.00pm. they said no, go to the Museum and Arts Centre. Foolishly we did. However we later found out The Lochmaddy Hotel serves food from 12 till 9pm every day including Sunday (at least during the summer/autumn months). We ate in the bar and the food was excellent,not expensive and the staff were very hospitable. It may not be haute cuisine, but certainly good value . Meat pies were excellent.

Went for coffee as poring with rain, place was empty and coffee was lovely but nothing else available no snacks biscuits etc so a little disappointed as wanted lunch snack no where else available service excellent though

despite preparing for an imminent visit from the princess royal to open the newly installed marina the staff were unfazed by a coachload of hungry travellers descending on them for soup and sandwiches.the lentil soup was delicious incidentally and the sanwiches good company for it.

The staff were friendly but completely inflexible with the menu. Food was fairly standard and not particularly well presented. They ran out of salad when we were there so the sandwiches were a bit lacking in nutrients and no veg alternative such as colslaw was offered. Option to sit outside was appreciated.

The lounge bar restaurant in the Lochmaddy Hotel was pretty busy at Thursday lunchtime in late July, but the staff were willing and cheerful and everything arrived promptly. The menu was not particularly exciting, but our prawn cocktails, garlic bread, and chocolate cake were all up to scratch. Wine by the glass was nice and cold, and the bill was very reasonable. There are not many places to eat on North Uist, and the Lockmaddy Hotel lounge bar was a good refuge from the rain outside.

Stopped for lunch and enjoyed good fresh fish and chips with good beer and a pleasant white wine. Good friendly service, value for money and recommended.

Very nice meal with very large portions. We had the North Uist beef of the specials menu and the house special fish pie. Good value for money and great service from friendly staff. Highly recommend and much better than the Dark Island Hotel & Restaurant on Benbecula!

The hotel was a little run down but they produce good food at reasonable prices. The menu choice was extensive with a lot of specials. Service was friendly and timely. The food was of a good standard. Well worth a visit.

Recently visited and eat in this place, had to say food was adequate . The decor of the place is not good the lights in the place are so bright it spoils the atmosphere. Where as the lights in the ladies toilets is very poor. There was also a very horrid smell of fish in the place on the two occasions I was in, not good when you don't like fish. The staff could be a bit more attentive to the customers, even without any competition in the area they still need to up their game.

It was absolutely tipping it down with rain and we arrived slightly depressed by our accommodation in the local hostel but we were most cheered up by our dinner in the Lochmaddy, the food was plentiful and tasty, the staff were really nice and the place was packed which made for a happy atmosphere on a dreich evening

Von außen machte das Haus eher den Eindruck, als sollte man hier nur schnell ein Bier nehmen, innen wurden wir aber sofort positiv überrascht. Die Bar wirkt aufgeräumt und freundlich, die Karte las sich gut und es gab sogar Tagesangebote an der Tafel an der Wand. Alle sechs Gäste unsere Gruppe waren mit ihrem Essen vollkommen zufrieden und absolut überrascht von der Qualität mitten im Nirgendwo.

We recently attended a wedding meal and party at this hotel and given that we understand that they rarely do weddings we were amazed at the effort that was put in to what was a wonderful day. The staff were friendly and attentive, with the possible exception of the bar where service was a little slow. The food was amazing , both in quantity, quality and presentation. For those who know the Uists I would have been perfectly happy if the meal had been served to me in the restaurant at Langass Lodge! The only issue for us was that the helpings were enormous, but so good that we struggled through ;-)We had, on a previous occasion, eaten a bar meal in the lounge at Lochmaddy and been very happy with the quality and value of the food.If you want fancy dining, move on. If you want great value, quality food and relaxed environment then this is for you.
