Ate in the restaurant last week and the food was top quality. Most of the group had scallops to start and monkfish for the main course. Both were cooked to perfection!

A delightful hotel restaurant. We didn't have a booking and weren't staying at the hotel but were made very welcome by the lovely staff. We had a fabulous 3 course meal each including scallops, smoked salmon, steak (which was perfectly cooked to our liking and melt in the mouth to eat) and gorgeous desserts. It was all better than expected and we would return if we go back to Uist. Lovely Scottish vibe to the lounge/dining and bar area. The glass fronted restaurant overlooks the ferry harbour.

Characterful old victorian fishing hotel. We had a good meal -menu is mainly steaks, burgers fish and chips and so on - but well presented, good portions & fresh . Staff were very friendly and attentive, -even giving us a lift back to the marina through the storms which was lovely. Great range of whiskies available in the bar area with lovely leather chesterfield sofas, and gentleman's club feel. Great views down the loch to sea. Yes could do with some refurb -but deserves a chance.

We had drinks in the timeless pub-like lounge , then moved to the sunny dining room with harbor view for dinner. The meal was delicious - seafood linguine. So often with a seafood pasta dish you get limited seafood. But this chef included scallops, shrimp and 2 kinds of fish…in a delicious sauce. Bravo!

We read the reviews about the Lochboisdale Hotel and some people said about it being a tired looking hotel. If you look passed the tired looking exterior though (bear in mind the cost of maintaining such a hotel and the logistics of getting materials on the Outer Hebrides!) you’ll find a lovely traditional bar area (that is dog friendly) with friendly accommodating staff and really good food ! We parked our campervan in the hotel carpark for the night as it’s right next to the ferry terminal. It was free to park but we had a meal and drinks to show our appreciation of the free parking. Would just like to say a BIG THANK YOU to both Callum’s and family for making us feel very welcome. Would definitely go back 👍

This is an aging hotel with many rooms, we found it initially quite confusing to find our room. That achieved, the room was huge with a fabulous bathroom and everything we needed. We had a very nice evening meal and delicious breakfast. The staff were attentive and accommodating with some interesting local news and opinions. Some of the bar guests were full of colourful language possibly resulting from a disappointing football result!

A group of 5 of us arrived at Lochboisdale Hotel (South Uist) with no restaurant booking but were warmly welcomed into the bar area where we experienced friendly and attentive service and delicious food: best smoked salmon I've ever had, plus perfectly cooked scallops...others had a beautifully cooked steak and extra good fish and chips. Board and card games kept us busy with great beers and cider. Coming off a boat in stormy weather, we were all so grateful for the welcome and the tasty fare. Thank you!

5 of us moored a boat in the nearby marina and came here for an evening meal. We hadn’t booked but we’re given a table where we had an excellent meal and played games provided in the bar. The place could do with a lick of paint outside but don’t let that put you off. The staff were great and very welcoming, and we all had a really fun evening. Recommended for a meal and a jolly time.

Had dinner this evening at the hotel restaurant, delicious food at a reasonable price. The two girls who were serving were exceptional and really friendly. One recommended a whisky to me which was excellent. Wouldn't hesitate to eat here again if in the area. Being only the second table in the whole restaurant and having ordered something so simple we didn’t expect to be SO disappointed. Especially with such a small menu. Our steaks both came overdone, no one checked in to ask if everything was alright with our dishes and even when we went to settle the bill - without finishing our drinks - we weren’t even asked if everything was okay? Customer service 101 is to make sure the service and food was okay? No? We came along to the Borrodale Hotel for dessert and wish we had come here for dinner instead. Truly awful food and service, will never recommend to anyone. £52 for something I wouldn’t feed my dog. Unbelievable. Photo attached of our medium-rare steak - a joke.

Was a nice old building. Classic look and feel. Bit like stepping back in time a bit. Very friendly staff and owner. Rooms OK. Food was fair for the price. Only complaint is its understaffed. One poor guy was doing the bar, tables, drinks and I wondered what all the staff we met on arrival were doing? Was a long wait for service because a full bar and restaurant had just the one guy. Give that man a pay rise. All in all nice food, interesting building but more staff please 🙂

Chaotic and disappointing service. Very limited menu (starters and mains). Fish (battered haddock £14), pork loin (which was actually pork belly!) £16, chicken breast £14, steak £22 or a veggie stir fry £10 for mains were not cheap by any standard. Happy to report that the soup of the day and scallops starters were of very good quality, so well done the kitchen team. Biggest concern was the disrespectful staff (and management) whom seemed to be oblivious to us (and other patrons) offering what could only be described as a very poor service. Tables left uncleared. Lengthy periods to order and between courses. Oh, and on request for napkins we were given paper ones! The ‘owners ‘ table dined on seafood platters (not available to us mere public) they were served with courtesy and efficiency (unlike us). Not what I’d expect in ANY establishment. And as for constant shouts of “BRUCE”, let’s not go there. Perhaps this is island hospitality but, not impressed thus far and will not be back to eat there either!

We were staying nearby in Uist Storm Pods and had booked dinner here. Bar and restaurant were nice and staff were very friendly. Nice selection of beers on tap and comfy seating around the bar. To start we had the scallops with black pudding which was nice but the scallops could have been seared for slightly longer. I had the burger and chips which was ok but the burger severely lacked seasoning and taste. My other half had fish and chips which was also ok. You don’t have much choice in South Uist and as much as the food could do with slight improvement it’s still a nice venue and friendly atmosphere.

So much better than previous visits over the last few years. For visitors, the Dinner Menu is now well put together. Ingredients are local, well cooked and well presented. Good job. However, I thought the portion sizes and especially for active visitors ( hikers, sailors, fisherfolk...) were fine dining size (small) and pricing for a lot ( but not all ) of the dishes given their size was on the high side. On the other hand, fine dining prices could have been easily substantiated with two caveats. Firstly, if the service and waitresses showed some elements of professional restaurant service training - perhaps given by management who I would hope themselves have professional hotelier training to pass on (?). Secondly, whilst the restaurant and bar area has thankfully had a bit of a decorative facelift, the entry to the hotel remains a poor reflection of what the hotel wants to portray as its client offer - it is in a very sorry state of repair and decoration. And, having passed through the hotel entry lobby, to the hotel reception area - at best it could be described as a dusty unkempt storage area piled high with boxes. The entry from outside through the lounge bar to the restaurant has no better image than the hotel entry, and on my 3 visits for eating and coffee, the sheets of paper on a small table asking you to register for Covid purposes were full with about 5 filled pages of details and no additional empty ones to sign in on. I think perhaps they had been there quite a while ( suggesting nothing was being done with them by management and there was no monitoring of them ....). In terms of my support, please management keep up your improvements. The Lochboisdale Hotel has so much potential to regain some glimmer of its former days of glory and standing for visitors and locals alike. I take solace from the recent improvements. For now, the food makes it worth a visit. I look forward next year to seeing an effort at renovating the guest entry areas, toilet facelifts, and improved service standards worthy of a professionally run restaurant (with no loss of the waitresses local charm). Perhaps also Uist lobster and hand dived scallops next year on the menu to accompany your Uist venison ?

On our first visit to South Uist this was a real find. Menu full of local produce and reflected the season. We had a variety of starters, Spiced Lentil Soup, Monkfish Ceviche, Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese Roulade. Then all for of us opted for Fillet of Venison with buttered carrots, beetroot puree and dauphinoise potatoes, red wine jus. Beautifully tender venison and a wealth of flavour in the vegetables, four very clean plates! For dessert, Vanilla Pannacotta with Blueberry Compote and Homemade Shortbread, and Chocolate Fondant with caramelised bananas and vanilla icecream, yum. Four very happy diners. The staff made us feel very welcome and were very attentive,

Poor show from start to finish. Three options on the menu venison stew, venison burger or bean and lentil option. If you weren’t vegetarian or liked venison then there was nothing else to eat. With no other option I went for the venison burger. Burger was dry, roll was rock solid. So much so we couldn’t eat the top part of the roll. Not sure if this was old bread they had heated up to try get rid. Whilst eating our server was in and out to the bin. Chips seemed like they had been rolled in salt like a doughnut. I ended up scraping it off with my knife. We were the only people in the place so once food arrived didn’t see waiter again. They are registered on the eat out scheme but the one person serving and no clue what we were talking about. Don’t waste your time going!

I arranged in advance for a large group to eat here, and we pre -ordered 3 course meals. The group were mostly from abroad and Karen took this into account and arranged a very nice selection which included local fish, scallops, haggis, and black pudding, also Sticky Toffee Pudding dessert. A well thought out menu. Much appreciated. The food was lovely, but despite pre ordering, one main course didn't turn up, or was given to wrong person, meaning one of our group had to wait for his main course. The desserts we had pre- ordered, one of those choices, strawberry cheesecake was no longer on the menu, which was disappointing for those who had ordered it. However the Rhubarb Crumble served in it's place, with individual jugs of custard was enjoyed by those who had it.Generally, we enjoyed the meal, and the work Karen put into planning the menu before we arrived was appreciatedThe staff were friendly.Ceilidh music was also provided especially for us by Callum.

To be honest our arrival was pretty much ignored and there was no information about whether we should order, sit or wait to be seated. When we asked we were told where the menus were and to order drinks at the bar.We had to ask where to sit and were told anywhere. Sadly on seating, we were advised the table was reserved but they forgot to put the sign up, so we had to move. Interesting, no one turned up to use the table whilst we were there! The food was good, the saving grace. Service was amusing at best.If you want tasty food and don’t care how you get it, enjoy.

So after a days golfing on Askernish myself and my group had booked a table here for dinner. Considering we have only travelled down from Stornoway we don’t class ourselves as tourists but my word I pity any genuine visitors to this hell hole. So, when we eventually managed to make our order with the inept waiter we were finally called through to the dining area. Starters, to be fair, were acceptable and we were more than happy with what we thought was going to be a well deserved meal. It quickly went wrong with one of our group being told he would have to wait an extra 10 minutes for his fish and chips due to them having to “cook for someone else” the waiter then arrived with a plate for another member and without remorse, hesitation and plenty smugness announced “I don’t even know what this is.”Turns out it was a plate of over cooked and inedible scallops. The two steaks that were ordered at medium to rare level were, well to be honest, worse than a human cremation. The macaroni had an inch of oil covering the top of it after clearly being reheated by a nuclear microwave. Normally, with this level of sub standard quality you would mention it to the waiting staff but due to them not even being in the vicinity it wasn’t possible to raise our concerns. Needless to say these meals were not finished as they were far from a reasonable standard. We weren’t expecting fine dining but my word they were barely even “drunk student” standard. When I requested the bill “Manuel” arrived with it to the table and when confronted about the feedback I wanted to give he proceeded to walk away without any acknowledgement of my concerns which I will say was more than rude and ignorant. I returned to the bar area to speak with the manageress and this is where things quickly turned to the worst experience of my life. At this point I will add that I’m not one to complain without genuine reason, I work abroad and have many years experience of hotels, restaurants and different countries “cultures”. However, I have genuinely never received the level of abuse that I got from what was clearly a drunk and very aggressive “Sybil Fawlty” I offered my reasoning as to why I thought there should be a reduction in the bill to which she initially acknowledged and agreed to reduce. When I returned again with our payment she proceeded to give me a mouthful of abuse which included the lines of “we’re not making anything out of this” and “you’re not looking after us”. Let’s not forget the “f**k you”and “f**k off” lines for good measure. I have genuinely never had this horrendous abuse to deal with after what was meant to be a relaxing and chilled out meal with a group of friends. Having spoken with other guests at this “venue?” It’s clear there are some serious issues with the mental health of some members of staff. In a hospitality industry you need to be...dare I say it...hospitable to paying guests whether they are from far or away. At the end of the day without custom your business is nothing and if you continue to treat folk in the manner in which you have then your business is not going to continue much longer. I would urge the owners and management of this hotel to reconsider their careers in the hospitality industry as I don’t think even Gordon Ramsay’s kitchen nightmares show could rectify the underlying bitterness and resentment they show towards their customers and guests. As a side note the chesterfield chairs in the bar/lounge were more comforting than the bitter and quite frankly horrible individual that called herself the manager. The irony of all of this is that their website quote the following...“Lochboisdale Hotel has a warm and friendly welcome with staff who are there to make your stay a memorable one.” I think what they have failed to include in this bold and inaccurate statement is that it will be a bad memory you’ll be leaving with

Two of us had a lamb curry which was really tasty but surprised not to get some Naan bread or other accompaniment. Kids had fish and chips which looked very tasty. Dessert was only ok. There is not a lot of choice of where to eat when staying in Lochboisdale, hence we ended up at the Lochboisdale Hotel. Another pub without any proper beer (ale). We hadn’t booked so on arrival were told that the only tables available were in the public bar accessible via a separate side entrance. The door to the bar was partly rotten and the entrance filthy, not a good start. To be fair, they were in the process of replacing the flooring, but the bare concrete did not look good. We sat down at a table which was very sticky and tried to attract the attention of the staff, not an easy task. Halfway through taking our order the manager walked away without a word of apology. We ate here three times (lunch once and dinner twice) when moored in the nearby yacht harbour. The hotel is very welcoming to visiting yacht crews, offering a pick up and return service to your boat if you don't feel like the 1 mile walk. The lunch menu is limited, but sufficient. We wife and I both had backed potatoes with a tuna filling. The dinner menu is more extensive and features traditional scottish produce. Don't expect a fine-dining experience, but rather interesting ingredients simply prepared. The first evening we ate here I enjoyed smoked haddock with poached egg, while my wife had a game pie: both excellent. The second evening was a little less successful: I enjoyed a Cullen Skink to start, but the fried monkfish and chips was a little dry and could have done with a sauce to liven it up.It is worth booking a table, since the restaurant has a pleasant view over the harbour, but is often full in the evening. Eating in the bar is also possible and a good option for lunch. However, for dinner I recommend the restaurant. Like everyone I met on Uist, the staff and owners are exceptionally pleasant and make you feel very welcome. The lift back to our boat in the middle of a cloud burst was particularly appreciated!

Where do you get lunch at sunday in Lochboisdail? There seemed to be just one option, so we headed to the windswept hotel just by the ferrypoint. We were happy to get some pubfood in the restaurant. Macaroni cheese and a chickenburger (from the freezer) served by a young and friendly staff. Our table was a bit sticky. The hotel/restaurant all in all looks a little bit run-down.

A very strange experience. Cheerful staff, but bizarre food. Lemon sole was perfectly cooked, but what's with the frozen veggies and crunchy, black-eyed boiled potatoes? Scotch trifle--good idea, but in this particular case it was weird and soggy, and honestly, I didn't think that maraschino cherries still existed. But then again, the trifle was left off the check, so all is forgiven. Check read: 1 Haggis, 2 Misc Food. That pretty well sums it up. Two stars because the fish was indeed fresh, and young scion of the owning family was professional and doing his best.

Finding our selfs in a local B&B, due to a ferry cancellation, our landlady recommended the Lochboisdale Hotel as somewhere to have dinner. We were greeted by a full and noisy bar. Luckily our landlady had made a reservation as the restaurant appeared to be for hotel guests only. A Fish Pie and Chicken Curry, and Chocolate Fudge cake and Bakewell Tart duly consumed. Real Pub grub. This all said the Hotel is in need of some love and attention and not sure I would go back if I had a choice!

We actually ate in the bar area. We were warmly welcomed and shown a table. The young lady behind the bar was enthusiastic and friendly. We could order from menues or a blackboard showing dishes of the day. Plenty of choice including local seafood and the portions were big. We enjoyed our evening .....

I wish I had a million pounds to develop this hotel into one of the best in the world which surely its location and food could support. Regretfully, no local dishes on offer. No menus either. A blackboard with untidy writing and bad spelling. So sad. Where are the Uist scallops and salmon , scampi and langoustine ? Service not organised. Toilets could be in Alaska they're so cold and bare. Decor and fittings passed there sell by date. It all grieves me. I know the heritage of this hotel and feel so very sad. I hope I win the lottery....

Don't know what was more annoying, the loud mouthed barman voicing his opinions about everything or the loudmouth drunk at the bar. Both made the atmosphere intimidating and unpleasant. Food was ok - really nothing special. Not too expensive. Would definitely not recommend

Delizioso

We were very disappointed with the food options to begin with, once we decided what we were having we waited quite a long time for the food, especially considering we were the only customers. When the food arrived we were amazed by the very poor quality of the food. Nearly all of it seemed to come straight from the freezer, dry chicken burger and drier (flat) bun. Overcooked chicken goujons and tiny baked potato. I don't understand why there was no local produce on an island that produces some of the worlds best seafood and lamb.

We ate here once while on holiday in the area. The food was good, the staff friendly but the restaurant was quiet and a bit dark and dated. There was a conservatory which looked much brighter, but this was full when we went. I would suggest you try to book this if you want to eat here.

On the recommendation of the owner of the B&B we were staying in, we had dinner in this hotel during our stay on South Uist. The portions were huge and piping hot when they arrived. Beef olives stuffed with black pudding served with mash and onion gravy for me and chicken stuffed with haggis served with a whiskey sauce and veggies for hubby. Add in a few glasses of wine and a couple of glasses of coke and our bill came to under £40. Great value for money!

We stayed in this hotel last year and the bed was not the best. We requested a soft one this year and got it. It must be very difficult to run a hotel in the Hebrides and make it pay with such a short season. It's a big hotel and needs constant upgrading. The food is really good.We had to be up early to catch the ferry and Michael was there to give us a call at 06.30 and Amy(studying to be a nurse) offered scrambled eggs. The hotel gave us the best reception we received in the Hebrides.

In B&B's whilst Island Hopping - came a toss the hotel whilst having a drive round trying yo find a place for lunch. Although not the Ritz the welcome we received could not be faulted. We enjoyed our lunch so much we went back for dinner. Again the waitresses were very welcoming and polite. Although service was slow the food was with waiting for. Not blaming the waitress for slow service - the place was packed. Would defiantly recommend. Good menu - we had the duck. It was the best I had tasted for a while.

Stayed at a local B&B to catch the ferry the next day and the Hotel was a short walk down the road. We started with a beer in the public bar and the followed it up with tfood on one of the tables near the bar. We both had the salmon with salad & choriso dressing, the fish was perfectly cooked and the salad fresh and very tasty. The service was very friendly with the girls behind the bar doing double duty taking food orders and waiting tables. Can higly recommend the changing blackboard menu at the Lochboisdale.

We ate here one evening whilst staying in a B&B about 6 miles away. The weather outside was wet n windy so it was nice to get inside. We each had a starter of crab chowder which was a creamy soup and was very tasty, great value too! For main course we had a macaroni cheese and a vegetable lasagne both served with homemade chips and side salad. Both were homemade and top quality, our plates were wiped clean! After staring at the dessert board during my meal, i had my heart set on a piece of carrot cake but i just could not fit it in! The food was great value, highly recommended.

We stayed for two nights at the Lochboisdale Hotel and were impressed by the food on offer. In addition to the typical "pub grub" fare, the menu included steaks, langoustine, duck and pheasant - so there was enough to cater for all palates and wallets. As were were mid-holiday and getting a bit "fooded out", we wanted something simple on the first night, so I opted for that favourite of the Scottish pub menu - macaroni cheese and chips, while my wife chose a pasta bolognese. The "mac n cheese" was very good and my wife's bolognese was reasonably good with a sauce that had been properly reduced to achieve maximum flavour. My only criticism of the dish is that it was served "British style", i.e. the pasta to sauce ration was wrong, with too much sauce - which can be rather overpowering. On the second night I had excellent fish and chips while my wife had a very "homely" steak pie, which was served with perfectly cooked vegetables. We chose to eat in the bar as opposed to the very smart restaurant, where we took breakfast in the morning. Service at all times was quick, efficient and friendly and the meals were excellent and good value.

Ate hear twice when holidaying on the island. First visit was good. Staff are friendly. Felt the food was a tad overpriced for just pub grub, but it was ok. On second visit for a starter I ordered a portion of garlic mushrooms. When they arrived there was only 3 button mushrooms on the plate with a bit of stale salad in the middle! £4.50! No mayo. Complained and said I wasn't willing to pay that for 3 tiny mushrooms so they took it away and removed it from the bill! They need to up their game a bit, could be a really good place as it is in a great area but everything was just OK.

We were staying in Lochboisdale so went to the hotel for an evening meal.If there had been another choice we would have taken it !The menu was expensive but we thought that the food might be up to a fine standard but unfortunately it wasn't.£13.50 for steak pie which was ok but had a few spuds and a little bit of veg on the side that tasted like it had been nuked in the microwave wasn't worth the money I'm afraid !The only saving grace was the dessert which was good.I would go here for a pint and to sit in one of the comfortable leather chairs but not for a meal again.Felt disappointed and ripped off to be honest.

Ate here twice as part of our stay at the hotel. Portions are large, and although the menu doesn't appear to vary day to day, the choice is good. You get a lot of food for your money, and it's pretty well cooked. However, if you like your haggis spicy, maybe give it a miss! Other than that, no complaints, and the rump steak was one of the best I'd tasted.

Cannot review the food as we did not get any, pretty looking place, sunny day, sat at table outside, waiter gave us some menus, said it was table service and that he would return in 5 minutes to take our order......nothing for 15 minutes, popped my head in to ask about ordering, to be told kitechen was closed and no food available, I explained we had been waiting for 15 mins.....Party of 4 French visitors who seated a minute after us were also told the same after waithing 15 mins.......we all left..... Kiosk up the hill was very friendly and good food!!!!!
