We stayed at the Loch Lomond Arms to celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary, and it was amazing. Our room was upgraded and we received complimentary Prosecco and dessert when we dined in the restaurant. The service we received from the staff was outstanding, we were made to feel very welcome. This along with the wonderful standard of rooms and meals made our trip feel very special. Beautiful location with lots to see and do - Couldn’t recommend highly enough

First of all, be prepared for a lengthy, detailed review, as I just wish we’d have listened to the negative reviews we read on here beforehand. We had a quick browse a few weeks before Christmas (stupidly to late on our behalf, as this was after we had already booked and paid for Christmas Day for 5 adults) but when reading them we thought, it can’t be that bad surely?! Well I can assure you it is. I would never ever go on here and take time out of my day to write a negative review if it didn’t warrant it (Infact, this is my first and hopefully my last) but I just want to pre warn people about our awful experience at the Loch Lomond Arms, before anyone else makes a very expensive and (in our case) an extremely long journey, for a special occasion like Christmas, to be left extremely disappointed (and lots of £££ down the drain). Set aside the fact it’s an idyllic looking pub / restaurant / hotel, the whole experience of this place went from bad to worse. We paid £115 per person for Christmas dinner which is a lot of money, you’d expect great service, great atmosphere and most of all, great quality food. To start with upon arrival, we were greeted, or should I say lack of greeting, by a very abrupt, rude man called Ben. There was no “happy Christmas” type of welcome which you’d of course expect, just a stinking attitude and awful tone of voice telling us we can’t bring our dog in. (We turned up with our dog, as we had been told at the point of booking that yes we can definitely bring him on Christmas Day - so knowing this we booked it all together, the Christmas Day meal, the cottage through them and the hotel for one of the guests). Anyway, on arrival Ben categorically said no to him coming in, wouldn’t let us speak or hear us out, just in the most awful tone of voice said we will have to take him back and leave him at the cottage there’s no other choice. This was never the plan. Our dog gets anxiety being alone so we would never have booked and travelled here if he wasn’t allowed in. We asked if we could be accommodated in another room, alone, seeing as we’d already paid for the meal, again it was a huge rude no, there was zero compassion, sorry or explanation, we were just made out to be liars by him as he said we definitely knew beforehand (when of course we didn’t) and spoke to like idiots by him instead. When we sat down for dinner, not one staff member offered us a drink, there was no wine list on the table or any drink menu for that matter. A waitress just plonked one plate in the middle of the table and didn’t even tell us what was on it. We then had to guess that it was the canapés. (However, we had already pre ordered from the menu, salmon and chicken Bon Bon’s so we presumed it was that). Although, when we cut into the Bon Bon it smelt, looked and tasted like haggis. The staff were so unapproachable we didn’t even bother asking as we were now feeling like we’re a hinderance to them, as we had to ask to order our first drink when the food arrived. Then again, we shouldn’t have to ask what it was being served as it should have been communicated. Before the cannapes and side plates had been removed, the next course arrived. Soup. It was freezing cold. We then had no choice but to ask for the previous course plates to be removed as there wasn’t enough space on the table. This should have already been done, it was just a mess and unprofessional. Next we were served the starter. Majority of us had ordered the pheasant. Not one of us were able to cut into it as it was that tough. Not even a steak knife would have helped. They came to clear it away and not once were we asked if everything was ok (clearly it wasn’t as they were all left uneaten). Next was the main course. We were really hoping this was going to make up for the poor courses we were served before and the bad attitude of the staff. I can’t even begin to tell you how awful this was. The plate turned up with a turkey roulade, with stuffing in the middle. The turkey was so dry, it literally looked like it had just been taken from Icelands freezer. The stuffing in the middle, was absolutely inedible I wouldn’t have fed that to my dog let alone a human. It was accompanied by 3 undercooked floury potato’s, 2 rock hard carrots and a few Brussel sprouts, also very hard. It was a seriously uninspiring looking Christmas dinner with no choice, but not only that it was honestly revolting tasting. Again, none of us ate it. The whole entire day was just a complete and utter let down from start to finish. We were really gutted the food was so terrible and added onto the terrible experience. Personalities are infectious, so when one person starts the day being unfriendly (Ben Campbell) it rubs off onto others (which it certainly rubbed off onto us, and clearly some of the staff). We witnessed two other tables complaining about the food and service as well. I went up to pay the bill for the wine and two lady’s infront were also complaining about the cold soup and were saying the turkey was nothing what they expected. Same as us, we expected slices of turkey that were juicy not this awful roulade thing that was thick and dry. When I was paying the bill I was asked if it was ok to add gratuity. Honestly the absolute cheek of trying to get us to spend more money, on what was genuinely the worst Christmas Day ever and worst food we’ve ever had. When I said no and explained why, the lady tried accusing us of being told about our dog not being allowed in. At this point we had moved on from that and this was now about the staff and the food, but the dog. The customer should never ever be made to feel the way the staff here made us feel. It’s a disgrace of an establishment to be perfectly honest, extremely unprofessional and overpriced - I warn you to stay away and save yourself the disappointment and the money.

I am not normally one to complain however we left the bar having paid £80 for 2 main courses and a child’s meal . I am utterly disappointed and in disbelief at what I have just paid for . I myself had the jerk chicken which tasted like it had been accompanied with packet rice and my husband had the duck which for £30 , he has come away and is currently cooking some toast to fill up on need I explain no more . Like I said I don’t normally complain but as a young family on our first little break away I am sure you can appreciate our disappointment at paying such a price for a meal out which consisted of a one course meal for 2 adults and a one year old .. We did contact the restaurant last week after our visit and am yet to receive a response

We had a really fantastic meal, the haggis, neeps and tatties was excellent. Lovely atmosphere. Only issue and this is a big one. I ordered the sticky toffee pudding and so did my two daughters. They ordered off the kids menu at 3 pounds each for the desert, I ordered mine from the main menu and it cost 8 pounds. All three portions arrived and were all the exact same size. In fact mine was in a larger bowl which made it look even smaller. I can understand a small price difference but not 5 pounds for the exact same desert and portion size. very disappointing which was a low point on a otherwise very good meal

The hotel is located in a good position on the banks of Loch Lomond within a conservation village. The welcome was not exactly warm and the gentleman at the reception seemed rushed and preoccupied with something else. We booked two rooms close together and called a week before to request this ( we never received the request sir ). One room was up 3 flights of stairs and the other was outside the main building in the annexe. Both cost the same but varied in terms of comfort level. One had an old tub and the other a wet room. Our room was extremely basic, old fixtures, peeling paper on the ceiling. Breakfast was your basic fare though there was a lot of variety at the buffet bar. Breakfast orders were mixed up but the staff were very accommodating and pleasant in the morning shift. We have another trip booked but will not be returning to this hotel

We made a reservation for 6pm but was early, happy to be let in. I had lamb loin, it was superb, the sauce was especially nice and complement the richness of the lamb, very authentic. Hubby has the king prawn pasta, again with yummy sauce. The sticky toffee pudding was lovely, warm, sticky, melt in the mouth. Felt guilty for its sweetness but well just this one time!!!! The dark chocolate was very rich not as sweet and nice too. Enjoy the dinner here. Well done.

Service was relaxed and friendly. We shared the bread and chutney starter with our children which was delicious. The pickled onions were a highlight. Excellent food and great customer service. This is a lovely pub restaurant, all the basics but with some additional ‘posher’ food if that’s your thing. We went one night then booked again for valentines evening and it was lovely. The tacos were superb. The soup really tasty and the crab salad and salmon fresh and cooked beautifully. The service is good, they are happy to help but don’t hassle you. The fire, the candles and the general ambience (including the fab smell of woodsmoke) is lovely.

Stayed at the Loch Lomond Arms a few weeks back while attending a wedding in the area. We arrived early as attending a wedding however the rooms were not ready so had to wait until we returned after midnight to get our room. The room was clean, compact, had everything you would need including toiletries, tea/coffee, water etc. The bed was comfortable and I had a good nights sleep. Breakfast in the morning was ok. Service was a little slow and the continental offerings were average. We ordered some hot food and it was good. The staff were nice and provided tea/coffee when required.

Called in here as the pub looked lovely from the outside and we needed some lunch. The staff were quite slow, stood for around 10 mins (even though the pub was empty) before waiting for someone to come over and seat us down. We ordered a steak pie and soup. The soup wasn't bad, although I was told it was tomato and sweet potato, then overheard another waiter say it was ccarrot and sweet potato. My husband had the steak pie and said it was the worst thing he has ever eaten. It was very watery and the meat wasn't nice. Food was average, I wouldn't eat here again but it was ok for a drink.

Dropped in for a refreshing ale around lunch time, very polite person behind the bar informed us the restaurant was fully booked for lunch inside, but it we didn’t mind sitting outside there was plenty of room in the beer garden. This used to be a lovely restaurant but the service badly lets it down now, new staff who seem uninterested in what they are supposed to be doing and actually come across very rude. A long wait to be seated even though we booked a table and about a 20 minute wait to order, it seemed chaotic even though there was lots of staff. No one checked if everything was ok and they didn’t even bother clearing the plates away or taking our order for dessert. There were lots of people at the bar for a wedding and they were right beside tables with people eating not ideal. Also if you have a food allergy I wouldn’t bother as they seem to treat it as an inconvenience and the young waitress was annoyed and then upset my son by saying he couldn’t eat anything instead of being helpful and making sure the food is safe like most other places would. It made us feel awful and completely ruined our day out. They also add a service charge to the bill which would be fine if the service was good which it certainly wasn’t will not be back here which is a shame as we previously loved it.

We called here for a late Sunday lunch as opposed to the Loch Lomond hotel which has lovely views of the loch, big mistake! My wife who suffers with gluten intolerance, so needs to be very careful with what she eats or can end up extremely ill, as usual asked if there were gluten free options available. She was quite impressed as the server produced quite an extensive gluten free menu, and she chose Steak, chips & peppercorn sauce I went for fish & chips.10 mins after we ordered my wife , who was looking forward to her meal, asked the waitress if the chips were cooked in their own fryer to make sure there was no chance of cross contamination so she said she would check. She came back and said that no, everything went into the same fryer ! I pointed out the problem with cross contamination and was told "well not everyone has the same level of reaction to gluten", we were stunned but reluctantly said just swap the chips for boiled potatoes, we were offered a free pudding ! Now this is where it gets farcical, after the waitress left I said to my wife that she better check the peppercorn sauce is glutten free.................we were then told NO, its not !! We asked to speak to the manager and saw the girl speaking to the same guy who took our order and gave us the gluten free menu & he was studying it extensively. The girl came back (the manager I guess couldn't be bothered to offer his own apology for his own cock up) told us that there had been a mix up & we had been given an out of date gluten free menu WTF!!! A new menu appeared but my wife, who by now was as starving as myself, asked just for a gluten free Sunday roast. The meals tasted ok, but the complete lack of knowledge regarding diet requirements was shocking and the attitude of the waitress regarding peoples reaction to allergies was frightening! When the bill arrived they were so embarrassed by their lack of professionalism that they didn't charge for the food, but to add insult to injury later that day my wife said that she had a reaction to gluten and was ill all night, the only answer was that the gravy on the Sunday roast had gluten in it .It would have been nice for the manager, who we had initially dealt with and took our order, had had the decency to apologise in person. We took both of the "gluten free" menus and my wife will report this incident to the celiac society but if you have any dietary requirements I would suggest giving this place a swerve!

In a beautiful building and in a lovely village setting. Unfortunately the food was terrible. Ordered a kids bread and butter starter (£3 for three small slices of bread) and sausage, mash and gravy which was actually a burger cut in half with watery stock over. Partner had chicken burger which was extremely rubbery, luckily there wasn’t much chicken though! I went for the fish and chips which was undercooked fish with oven chips.Worst of all was the dishonesty around drinks. Ordered a glass of champagne. When it arrived it was clearly Prosecco, I questioned it after trying to be told it was the ‘house champange’. Questioned again later and insisted it was Prosecco so sent half back only to be told “it’s okay, we’ll only charge you for Prosecco”. At the end questioned this with someone else to be told they would deduct it from the bill but took three separate complaints to resolve; slaps of dishonesty. To top it all off they still included the gratuity on the bill.Clearly a place that relies on its setting and lack of competition. Avoid and just drive somewhere else if in Luss!

We visited this establishment this month and were really disappointed by our visit to the pub. On the whole the staff were helpful but one member of staff with dark spiked hair who I can only assume was the manager, dominated the other staff and was extremely unpleasant and unwelcoming to multiple customers. He made us feel rather uncomfortable and felt like we were putting him out with simple questions and requests with regards to the selection of beers and the menu. When we did get to to sample the food it was very disappointing also. I would suggest driving further up the loch.

The Loch Lomond Arms was a good base for a couple of days in Luss. The food was good (particulatly the waiter at breakfast) and the rooms nice.Whilst the Loch is beautiful Luss was heaving - with huge amounts of litter. Being across the road gave a sense of space from the crowds and the hotel is spotless.

I recently dined here on a brief trip to Luss. I knew beforehand what the prices were like, but ate here because at that point in time, there were no other options.Firstly I had the breads and chutney. The bread was sourdough bread and was fairly good, but the overall presentation was absolutely bizarre. The person who had prepared it has whacked about half a pound of butter on the plate, which was still brick hard, along with some very coarsely made chutney. I was very hungry, so I ate some bread with a very tiny bit of butter and chutney. For the mains, I ate a 'Vegetable Madras' curry, but this was like no curry I have ever eaten. It did not have the consistency of a normal madras, but was instead watery, with very coarsely chopped vegetables. It was also served with lentils rather than rice, and although I found the taste of the lentils interesting, I would have much preferred rice. Again, I ate quite a lot of it, but this was more out of hunger than a compliment to the food. The only dish I could compliment was the dessert, which was a sticky toffee pudding and ice-cream. It was difficult to go wrong with this, it was good.It was the dessert and also the standard of service of the waitress, who was friendly and attentive, which made this a review three rather than two out of five. Finally, and most annoyingly of all, I could tell that the table I was sitting at had not been cleaned, as it was sticky, like a restaurant table is when it has not been cleaned in a while. This really, REALLY annoyed me. Finally, the pricing. If this meal had cost me £10 - £15 less than it did, I would not be writing this review, and to make matters worse, the restaurant automatically adds a 10% gratuity which I fundamentally disagree with, since you cannot guarantee a good experience for everyone, clearly. It was overpriced.

We enjoyed a really nice evening meal as a family of four. Service was friendly, professional and attentive from arrival. We were seated in the library, which had old fashioned charm and a relaxed ambiance. Our orders were taken and drinks served promptly. For starters we enjoyed good quality smoked salmon with cream cheese and rye bread and a very smooth chicken liver parfait. We would have ordered more starters had there been a better range to choose from, and I baulked at the thought of spending £8 for the bread basket & preserves. For main courses, fish and chips, burgers and sausages and mash were all delicious and good quality. The battered fish was fresh, tasty and in a light crisp batter. (although the mushy peas with the fish were a little meanly portioned). My daughter enjoyed a chocolate brownie for dessert. My son and I opted for sticky toffee pudding. This was the only disappointment of the evening. The toffee puddings were not very warm, rather peely-wally looking and definitely under-sauced, rendering them a little dull to eat. Portions were generous, but they need a richer recipe. Overall we were very happy and will definitely return.

We were staying at nearby Luss campsite and dined a couple of night after they had fully reopened inside. The welcome and staff in general were really helpful and friendly and we were seated in the restaurant with our dog. Good choice of dishes on the menu, with a combination of more fine dining dishes and then pub classics such as burgers and fish and chips (which I had and was absolutely excellent, proper chippy-style chips). No wine list which meant the poor waiter had to go back and forth to the bar several times to check what wines were available, but that may have been sorted since. We had a really pleasant evening there and would recommend for the food and service. Only slight downside was that we paid in cash and I guess the staff assumed that they could keep the change, when we had already covered the 10% service charge which for us came to £12, so we had to awkwardly ask to receive our change back.

The food was excellent, oysters went down a treat, followed by 4 well chosen main courses (all served on plates), salmon, burgers and fish n chips, plus some drinks. Finished off with good deserts and great coffee.Sometimes you just have to go for it and we did and did not regret it, the staff were all fantastic and we were there for the warm glass scandal (some people), which the staff handled brilliantly.Would recommend anyone to eat here, loved it.

A great traditionally Scottish hotel. Decor really adds to it. We had a double room at the front of the hotel in the eaves. All very good except it didn’t have a walk in shower, just a bath with overhead shower attachment. Otherwise everything was great. Enjoyed a couple of meals and drinks in at the bar. A great selection of beers and gins. We stayed bed and breakfast and the menu was extensive and catered for all. Staff were pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. Felt very safe with good social distancing measures and plenty of hand sanitiser around the place. The only thing to be aware of is the 10%gratuity automatically added to meal bills, but they do state it is optional.

Visited on Sunday for a couple of afternoon drinks with my wife as we were staying at a nearby hotel. We were seated quite quickly and were given an A4 sheet of paper with drink and food menus on it. The service was very very slow and we were just about to walk out when the waitress eventually appeared with our drinks! The range of drinks available was quite poor also only having 2 bottles available Peroni or Corona and a very small amount of wine due to no delivery according to the waitress. Nearly finished our drinks we then ordered a 2nd of the same type which again took far too long to arrive.Quite disappointing.

What a lovely building! Set in such scenery! Why don’t you want custom then? Tried twice to book and also just to sit outside in the advertised beer garden for a drink. Rudely told we are fully booked. Not one person outside? No explanation no apology. Really, really cannot understand this sort of attitude in the hospitality industry. I know things are difficult for us all at the moment but seriously, do you not need the custom? Therefore I wouldn’t recommend to others or revisit. We were eating out every night so ended up travelling to other places. Now the Drovers Arms!!!! What a welcome!! What a place and brilliant food. Sorry Loch Lomond Arms you lost out on a lot of cash there !!

Came here on Friday after a long drive from Norfolk. Very accomodating, good service (although a little slow, waited 30 mins for my second drink to be asked "would you like a drink?" to which I responded "you took my order earlier". That aside, very nice ham hough terrine following by a venison burger - could do without the sweetness of a brioche bun. We had already booked for the Saturday, even better. Haggis starter (which they kindly did as a main for my wife) followed by seabass risotto (have to say the rice was a little al dente for me). Good sized portions, fortunately we were staying only a few yards away so were able to roll to our beds. Overall, a really good couple of meals. Although the ambience had been spoilt by the covid restrictions they tried everything they could to make a pleasant experience.

Lovely cosy and warm room with a double and a single bed!! Bathroom was great and even had a bath but was really cold though with no heater. There was a good selection of tea and coffee provided, however the milk was very out of date. Some of it was cheese!! Would maybe be better with a small jug of fresh milk.

We had food in the restaurant a few times, which was really good, macaroni was amazing, although no veg with kids meals even when menu said peas. Paying the bill was awful, tried charging for other people’s meals. Then the card machine was down another night. Sat pm no draught beer or juices. Had a takeaway Sat which was a total shambles, husband seen the staff member with our order and asked him. He continued speaking to another couple, then one of them asked if that was fish and chips and he handed it over from our order 🤬 so by the time we got a new one the other food had been sitting getting cold. The pizza topping was ok, the base was so hard that the sauce was sliding off it, the fish batter was far too greasy. The staff looked stressed when it was busy, probably needed more help.

Wow... we have been visiting here for over eight years, and we can't believe the impressive change this year, last year we thought it had improved from years earlier but this year it has taken a huge leap in to (my opinion) a 5⭐️ establishment. The food is freshly prepared by a very creative chef, the best Cullen Skink we've ever tasted (and we've visited Cullen, and even they couldn't cook it as good as the Lorne). We are huge seafood fans, so we also had to sample the mussels and seafood platter. The portions are plentiful, but we were overwhelmed by the quality of the food. We visited several times during our stay this week and we have not been disappointed My husband also had the steak one time and it was delicious (the melting in your mouth type of meat) The staff are very welcoming and attentive even during busy times. In our opinion this is the best place to eat in Oban.
