Visited and were told fully booked so did take out instead. Whilst waiting for takeout, another couple came in who had not booked but were clearly dressed more smartly than us (we were in walking attire but not scruffy!), they were told they could wait for a table. Food was lovely but we were made to feel a little inferior - I only hope that couple spent a lot less that we would have!

We went for lunch today and I must say I had been on the point of cancelling on the basis of the last few reviews. However we went anyway as it has a special place in my heart. I am so glad that we didn’t cancel. The service was attentive without being in your face and food arrived promptly. All staff were so lovely and so welcoming with a smile on their faces. The food was delicious and we thoroughly recommend it all. We had a lovely time and can’t wait to return. And we hope you all do too.

We used to absolutely love this place & were regular visitors, making the trip up from Glasgow to celebrate special occasions or drop in on our way up to family holidays. I don't know what has happened over the last couple of years but it seems to have hit a steep decline & unfortunately this will have been our last visit. They no longer offer the great service & beautiful food they once did. Our visit started badly when, as we were being greeted, we were informed with a shrug that this famous shellfish restaurant had, in fact, no shellfish on the menu. A failure with a delivery & no contingency meant there was no fresh shellfish available (oysters apart). OK, we can deal with that but a phone call to let us know would have been appreciated. Once you're at Loch Fyne you don't have many options to drop-in elsewhere, although the manager made it very clear we were welcome to leave before we sat down. Food was ok but 2 chowders arrived quite cold & appeared to have been poorly reheated. A member of our parties main dish arrived along with the starters whilst the waiting staff seemed unable to hold information or write down orders, making me repeat myself several times. I opted for a burger (I wanted mussels), it was distinctly average. My 6yo daughter was very happy they did have macaroni cheese & she enjoyed that. As we finished dessert (again some things not available) we started to hear some shouting, then louder swearing & banging as our poor amnesiac waiter scurried out of the kitchen being berated by (I assume) the chef behind him. It was quite funny until I remembered I did in fact have a 6yo in our company & the swearing was pretty inappropriate. Cue the kitchen porter wheeling out the bins past our table in his hi-viz vest & I'm starting to question if this is a set-up and Ant & Dec are about to jump out on me. We complained to our manager friend who seemed to get a bit huffy & argumentative although we did get a discount eventually, we still paid for the full meal just minus the price of some wine. We were the last people to leave (closes at 6pm!) & had to exit through the staff meeting as the manager berated her staff for having to give us a discount. I was waiting for the slow hand clap as they gave us a guard of honour on the way out, they even quickly locked the door behind us. So yeah, if you're looking for a Fawlty Towers experience or some macaroni cheese, I guess you might visit, we probably won't be back.

Arrived here at 11:15 to be greeted by pretty gormless staff. I asked if we could have a table and they just all looked at each other “it’s just breakfast, lunch is at 12” with no further conversation offered.. When we got into the car park we called to make a reservation and were told we couldn’t by a woman called Renata who had an awful attitude, I asked to speak to a manager and she told me she was a manager and that we could now not make a reservation …. Genuinely dumbfounded, could this be do to with our sexuality? Now having a lovely lunch in The George Hotel, five minutes up the road. Martyn & Chris

Booked weeks in advance for a special family occasion on what happened to be a sunny April day. Turned up to be told no crab, only one lobster left, and no mussels! The wait to be served was painfully long. When the one lobster did arrive at the table, it was tiny and had about two small mouthfuls of meat on it. The staff seemed harassed and the whole thing just wasn’t enjoyable at all. And a huge bill to boot.

On the positive side, the staff and surroundings were lovely....and oh wow, the bread was amazing! With such great Scottish produce it really was unfortunate the soup of the day had very little flavour, the battered haddock greasy and served with awful frozen chips. For the price on the high side for a fish supper, it didn't meet up to our expectations. However, our other starter of crab arancini was full of flavour, and our complaints were quickly resolved by a small discount and apologies from staff.

Whilst on our Christmas holiday, we booked a table at the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar. Wow ! We had baked oysters to start. Truly amazing. They lived up to their reputation as some of the best oysters, coming from Loch Fyne. We then had the Lobster & Brown Crab. Both were fantastic & beautifully presented. The staff were very friendly & attentive, making sure everything was as it should be & we were enjoying our meal. It was a fitting end to our holiday & set us up for the long drive back to Lancashire. Thanks to all at the Loch Fyne Oyster bar. Merry Christmas & Hope to see you again soon.

Cullin Skink soup for lunch. Served with bread and butter. Hot, tasty and filling soup. Well attended by staff however while having coffee at the end of lunch waiter brought us the bill and card machine before we had finished. Why do this ? The place was not busy so why the hurry. Made us feel unwelcome like we should leave. Maybe because we only had the soup for lunch and not some of the more expensive items on the menu. Not in a rush to go back

Fish & chips heel lekker. Oesters matig. Absoluut reservatie nodig. We hadden geen reservatie, we konden er niet eten ondanks meerdere lege tafels. Ander koppel achter ons kreeg wel tafel na aandringen. Take away is mogelijk.

Very poor experience. Even though they had confirmed our booking by email, the reservation wasn’t made, and we were sent away and asked to return in 30 minutes. The oysters were tiny and tasteless and at £3.50 each were unacceptable.  The langoustine were very poor and the entire meal was not value for money. I wouldn’t recommend this place and would avoid it. We to Inverary ( Samphire) and had the best meals and superb service.

Visited the restaurant on a Tuesday with other two guests for lunch, ordered half a dozen of oysters as a starter and for main two half lobsters and the Smoked Salmon & Tomato Mascarpone Linguine. Oyster were very nice, we did not wait long at all; the mains arrived and the lobster was good. We did find a problem with our linguine which did not look like they had salmon in them; we then asked the waitress if these were indeed the Linguine with Salmon inside and she said she was going to ask the kitchen but she never returned. Not even to ask how the meal was going. The Linguine definitely did not have salmon in them, the were no piece of salmon and even if it did melt during the making process there was no taste of salmon at all. Since we were not getting an answer from the waitress we just ordered a fish and chips instead which was average. The location is beautiful and the restaurant itself very clean and presentable. Overall a good meal with some imperfections, a pity for the poor service…

I then had mussels of which there were plenty and he had haddock which he said was very tasty. Service was quick and staff were all very pleasant and attentive. Will certainly be back

Long weekend with the girls, stopped in for some salmon to cook with breakfast. Then came back the next day to sample the menu. Could have tasted it all - every dish. Mussel to start and scallops for main, both dishes absolutely blew me away. Every forkful was amazing. The depth of flavours made be feel ‘warm and fuzzy’. Service was great, quick but not as a compromise to the food at all. Can’t wait to come back with my husband and eat again.

We have been coming here for fifteen years and the quality of the the food has just got better. On this occasion we came for lunch midweek. The lunch menu has got very limited and this was the first time I did not have a fish dish. My partner ordered the kedgeree which is always good. However it was served cold. We sent it back and a warm version came back. It seemed to be in a tomato based sauce and not the classic curried version. In fact it was very unappetising and we just had to leave it. It was taken off the bill and we were offered a glass of wine, however this does not make up for the poor lunch experience. I suspect there is a new chef whose standards do not live up to previous incumbents. Shame really, we will have to move on to Inverary for our next trip.

Did both dine-in lunch and take-away. LUNCH: Had the scallop thermidor as starter, then the lobster. Scallop was nicely seared and cheesy. Lobster came with flavourful garlic butter, although I would have preferred if it were cleaned of all the barnacles. Service was friendly and attentive. TAKE-AWAY: There is a deli section. I bought 2 items: Seafood with rose marie sauce sandwich was only average, very little meat. The smoked haddock quiche was flavourful. As a tourist I could not buy the smoked haddock itself (as that needs a fridge), so the smoked haddock quiche was a good alternative!

I'd recently bought and eaten fresh oysters outdoors in Oban and I was keen to do the same at Loch Fyne. I bought a takeaway box of 6 prepared oysters with great expectations but it didn't really live up. The oysters were medium sized and the only preparation had been to remove the top shells. Luckily I had a spoon in my vehicle that I could use to separate each oyster from their shell and let me eat them. In Oban, the oysters were large and had been fully prepared for eating there and then. I guess that I had misunderstood the takeaway option.

Food poisoning. We visited loch fyne oyster bar on a return trip from Inveraray prison. Ordered 6 oysters which myself husband and 7 year old daughter tried. They tasted fine. Her twin sister was the only one not to eat an oyster. At midnight the following evening all 3 of us who had eaten oysters started vomiting on multiple occasions throughout the night and husband also had diarrhoea. 3 days down the line and I’m still not right. Daughter who didn’t eat oysters was fine, the 20 other people staying in the same house as us, who didn’t eat oysters were also fine. This is the only meal we had out of our holiday home and away from the group so pretty certain it was bad oysters. I guess you take a risk eating raw shellfish, but loch fyne are well renowned, the oysters sourced literally across the road and they supply lots of top restaurants so thought we were relatively safe. What’s really disappointing is I emailed the restaurant 2 days ago to alert them to this case of food poisoning and a potentially contaminated batch of oysters. They’ve not replied. I have also reported them to food standards. We won’t be back and I will never eat loch fyne oysters again.

We spent the last week of the year in Scotland and chanced upon this place through some research. It's no way connected to the Loch fyne group of restaurants btw. We managed to get a booking on NYE for lunch. The staff were very courteous and helpful, and stored our luggage safely. Their service was impeccable, despite being packed to the gills. The menu is limited but I like that, and mainly seafood, so don't go expecting the world, it's a seafood lovers paradise. The seafood is sourced sustainably from Loch fyne or around, think everything we eat came from a 20 mile radius . We ordered a langostine bisque, 6 Pacific oysters , grilled langostines,. half a grilled lobster, three beers, two whiskies and a coffee the total bill was 90 quid. Everything was delicious and so so fresh. The setting of that place is the other amazing thing about it, right in front of the Loch fyne and surrounded by hills and valleys. That day was so beautiful crisp sunshine and blue skies. I would definitely recommend a detour if you have the time. It's only 1.5 hours from Glasgow on the bus. Totally worth it and already wondering when I could visit again.

Very disappointing experience. Staff reached across in front of us, coffee revolting, not a children’s menu, very expensive, no alternative to cows milk. Staff not helpful or friendly and were clearly too busy to be polite to us. Very poor menu. Would not come here again.

The service was great and the Haddock was amazing! It was most definitely worth the 1.5 hour drive. Highly recommend this restaurant.

This was my fifth visit here and I'm sorry to say that it never lives up to anything like my expectation. Came here with family who ordered the 'cooked' fruits de mer...however it was disappointingly lukewarm once it had arrived. My order of battered fish was flimsy, served with cardboard chips and a tasteless tartare sauce. Loch Fyne could learn a lot from pretty much any local chippy. If you're running this restaurant, get yourselves down to Aldeburgh and order cod and chips in a paper bag to take-out. You might learn something. I doubt you'll do that. You've got a money making 'treadmill' in this location - where you can charge what you like - for food of seriously questionable quality.

Popped in for a late lunch as we were passing by. We were told service was available until 3:30-4ish so we decided to walk the dogs nearby first (there are a series of well signposted walks starting from the car park or the nearby bridge). After tiring out the pups we left them in car for a snooze and enjoyed a light meal of a few starters which was all exquisite.

Great roadside stop! Great food and good service. Nicely decorated – bright and airy. They also have a deli so you can grab items to go as well. We wanted to try a lot of things so we split the crab claws (yummy), the Tarbert scallops (a must have) and my husband loved the fresh oysters. We split the fish and chips. They were the freshest and most lightly battered I have ever had – delicious! I must say though, so far, the BEST sticky toffee pudding I have had in Scotland! I highly recommend you slowing down to pop into this place, it’s so worth visiting!

Not sure when we were going to arrive so hadn't booked but checked website which stated "Friday to Saturday ... last orders 6.15 p.m". We arrived (Saturday) at 5.30 pm on the off-chance of a table and asked if they had availability for 2 people. We were told "no", that they closed at 5pm. Mentioning time listed on website and asking if they were on winter hours now. Being told they always close at 5pm. So, disappointingly we didn't get to taste the seafood. Perhaps you could update your website to avoid others making the same mistake?

Not to be confused with the Loch Fyne seafood chain of restaurants which share the name only. This remains a simple but wonderful place to eat top quality, fresh seafood in a sumptuous location. It has changed over the past 20 years since our last visit during the annual food festival (now a beer festival and no longer in the same place) but it retains its homely feel even though the space is quite large. Fresh decor lends it a slightly Scandi feel. We managed to squeeze in before the main lunch service but would advise reservations on the weekend.

Personally I do not eat a lot of fish however this was a treat. Deep fried haddock - not in a beer batter but just the job. My partner ate the kedgeree - thoroughly enjoyable. Good attentive service.

My husband has eaten here many years ago and has been raving about it ever since so when we were in the area we had to come back. It was very busy, we hadn’t booked so we were to,d there was an up to 45 minute wait. This was fine as there is a gift shop and garden centre alongside.

We stopped off for lunch whilst having a day tour in the car. We were greeted by friendly staff who got us a nice table straight away even though it was busy. The service was very friendly and helpful. We had a sharing plate to start and changed the kippers to smoked salmon which was not an issue. It was very tasty indeed. I then had Langoustine Bisque which was a flavour sensation. Highly recommended - also in a beautiful location

We had a lovely family lunch today for my sisters 50th birthday. It was perfect from start to finish! Our waitress Eilidh was a fabulous host and a credit to the team. She brought my sister a complimentary glass of fizz to toast her birthday and it set a lovely tone for the afternoon. The food was delicious, the wine was good and my sister had a perfect afternoon. Thank you to the whole Loch Fyne Team for making it so amazing and a special thank you to Eilidh for being the perfect host ❤️

Stopped for lunch on our way to Inveraray, this roadside icon has obviously taken criticism of its service and customer relationships seriously. Despite having no reservation we were quickly seated in an annex to the (full) main dining area and served attentively thereafter.

Traveled from Glasgow to eat at this restaurant on Thursday. Arrived at 5.15 and ordered drinks whilst looking at the menu. The waiter / manager ? Paul gave us approx 5 minutes until he was back at our table looking for our order.( there was no greeting , smile or anything pleasant in Paul’s attitude towards us) I said to him that I felt a bit rushed and he just stood there waiting for my order. ( he really couldn’t care less ) I quickly looked at the menu and ordered mussels to start to share with my friend and then langoustines. My friend ordered fish and chips. The mussels arrived along with my friends fish and chips ! !! . I wasn’t happy as you can imagine. My friend being too polite never complained neither . I ate the muscles and my friend ate the fish and chips. Whilst waiting for my langoustines I went outside to get fresh air when I was followed by one of the staff . She told me that the kitchen was now closed and the gas had been turned off . !! I told her that was not acceptable and that I wanted my dinner .... ( we had driven over an hour to get there ) she went back to the kitchen and told the chef to make my langoustines!! .... I’m not really sure what this nonsense was all about .... apart from the staff obviously wanted to go home.... I had to eat my dinner with my friend looking on ..... the entire experience was rushed and Paul looked as if he couldn’t be bothered serving us ... it looked as if he needed a drink and wanted us to leave . This is not the first time I have experienced Paul’s depressing face and attitude. The last time we were here we arrived around the same time. The same man Paul took our order and then he put his jacket on and circled around us. Once again I felt very rushed and I know he wanted us to eat up and leave . The owners of this restaurant should take note that the staff here will run your restaurant into the ground if your not careful. Paul should look for another job which does not entail working with the public ... he should be disgusted with himself and leave immediately before he causes more damage ! I will never be back ! Not that Paul cares ... .... a very sad man indeed .....

We have visited here many times, the food has always been very good. But the last time we came in the spring and on this visit, last Friday, I was very disappointed by the total lack of a vegetarian option. This had always been available before. I fully understand that it is essentially a fish and seafood bar, indeed I do enjoy some fish dishes. My husband loves Eating here so I am happy to go as he enjoys it so much. But given that there is also duck and chicken on the menu why not a vegetarian dish too? There is already pasta on the menu so a veg pasta dish would be at least something. There was nothing at all vegetarian last Friday, not really good enough in this day and age where lots of people who want to eat together may be vegetarian, pescatarian and carnivores!

Lovely cosy and warm room with a double and a single bed!! Bathroom was great and even had a bath but was really cold though with no heater. There was a good selection of tea and coffee provided, however the milk was very out of date. Some of it was cheese!! Would maybe be better with a small jug of fresh milk.

We had food in the restaurant a few times, which was really good, macaroni was amazing, although no veg with kids meals even when menu said peas. Paying the bill was awful, tried charging for other people’s meals. Then the card machine was down another night. Sat pm no draught beer or juices. Had a takeaway Sat which was a total shambles, husband seen the staff member with our order and asked him. He continued speaking to another couple, then one of them asked if that was fish and chips and he handed it over from our order 🤬 so by the time we got a new one the other food had been sitting getting cold. The pizza topping was ok, the base was so hard that the sauce was sliding off it, the fish batter was far too greasy. The staff looked stressed when it was busy, probably needed more help.

Visited here today for a meal. It’s looks amazing and is in such a beautiful location. The venue is spotless and decorated to a very high standard. Everything you looked at just seemed to fit and look good. When we arrived and asked for a table we were sent to Bobby’s then we got there we were then sent back to the restaurant. We again asked for a table and was stood here for a good couple of minutes whilst the member of staff just looked at her computer screen saying nothing to us. Then being placed at what must have been a walk way for the staff I got knocked into 3 times by staff whilst sat down. We ordered the food and 2 cokes asking that one of the cokes be placed into an empty glass (no ice or limes etc)only to be brought a glass with ice and lime, again we said an empty glass please a minute later a glass with lemon was brought. The food was fromThe point of order was on our table within 4 minutes. I ordered steak and sausage pie and my partner ordered chicken with haggis and veg. Both came with mash this was microwave mash the veg was not good at all but the chicken and the pie was quite nice. The gravy for the pie was amazing. The staff I felt were trying too hard and I lost count of the amount of times our table was visited different members of staff . Would I visit here again? No Would I recommend this place sadly not. I strongly believe in first impressions and my whole visit today just did not do it for me.
