This business used to have plenty of choices that were worth the travel to get there. What I've noticed as soon as we arrived was the number of people present (usually a massive queue on Sundays). We went on purpose to buy a birthday cake as I've been doing for the past 15 years) only to have the biggest disappointment today when we served it... it was dry, the ribbon around the cake brought all the egg filling with it. Also bought custard tarts and other egg product that isn't to the standards I was used to, plus been overcharged in one of the items. When I asked if they had Molotov or egg lamprey (typical Portuguese dishes) I was told they don't do it anymore as they don't have the chef that used to do them. Summarising I do believe that if you walk a few meters down the road to another Portuguese coffee shop which has now the same quality the only difference is that they have better prices.

I have been stopping here for Pastry and coffee with my cycling group every week or two for years. It looks shabby and you can get hassled by junkies and homeless people to buy them a coffee on the negatives. But the pastries are excellent and have all the stuff you would expect from a Portuguese place, the coffee is good and it’s extremely cheap by London standards.

Went yesterday 29 April to especially buy 3 Natas and 3 Bolos de Arroz. We ate the Bolos de Arroz when we returned home, they were very stodgy, not edible. They were not like this a few years ago so don't waste your money as they were not cheap.

I was here on Saturday and order selection of cakes to take home. The quality of cakes ingrideants are very poor it reflects the price of the cakes. Cakes are full of hydrogenated fat and lard. Cream cake the cream was not evenly spreader, The cream cake was overpowered with vanilla. Chocolate cone cake with cherry on the top was not edible . The recipes of the cakes changed from last year or they have new baker. After trying the cakes I ended having the worst indigestion ever.

its been a ongoing decline year after year. I've ben living in London for 20+ years and each year there is less and less of what makes bolo rui such a special cake inside it. this year as achieved a new low with only fruits and nuts on the top and inside a a blob of dough dry as hell and with the cristalized fruits and pinenuts? is there any inside? more rare than what was traditionally put inside one small present and a broad bean. I remember once many years ago the owner declaring how much money he saved that year by reducing the amount of pinenuts needed in the recipe that year. well it seems he hasn't stop there as this year not only there were literally no pinenuts the fruits were also missing. the outside of the cake being just a front to what inside is a load of heavy dry dough with none pf the magic bolo rei should have.

I love Notting Hill Gate, but unfortunately, the manager of Pret A Manger is very unprofessional and disrespectful. I have had more than three arguments with him. Unfortunately, he has very poor communication skills and does not behave in a professional and respectful manner. His attitude towards customers is problematic. I do not recommend anyone to have coffee there, as he creates problems rather than resolving them.
