Great food from start to finish, the staff were also very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back with the possibility of an overnight stay.

What a fabulous little gem of a pub! We were recommended this restaurant for a brilliant steak and we were not disappointed, we had a wonderful meal, staff were so lovely and welcoming and the open fire make the whole visit very worthwhile! I would highly recommend!

I really don’t know where to start. This is an absolute gem of a hotel restaurant. Firstly, all the staff were amazingly friendly and welcoming. The landlady absolutely lovely and made us feel we’d known her forever. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. The food was delicious with good portion sizes. Freshly made and well presented and reasonably priced. Definitely worth visit.

I have visted the Lion & Unicorn many times over the last 25 years with my wife and friends who live close by for meais and social Sadly I lost my wife in October 2023 and her ashes are on Inchmahome Island and I stayed at the Lyon & Unicorn on my return home to Sunderland Nothing has changed in all these years Fiona and all staff are the most friendly staff you would wish to meet and nothing is a bother to them the locals also make you feel at home. I would highly recommend for a meal or overnight stay if you are in the area

Oh dear, I was not going to write this as I thought it best to keep it a secret. One of the best meals out in a long time. If you are looking for a meal where you walk out and think you have had a good old scottish experience, great plentiful good quality food, local atmosphere, service with a smile. Then look no further. Impressive.

Have been going here on and off for years but I'm afraid today will be our last, first of all the food today was OK and only OK,but for nearly £17 for a roast dinner you'd expect a real Yorkshire pudding not 2 tiny little frozen efforts,greasy taste from the chips,the last time we were here was approximately 3/4 months back when we were seated at a table for 4,the radiator right next to the table was filthy with food and dirt sprayed over it,I mentioned this to staff when leaving, today we were seated at the same table and guess what,radiator was as filthy as ever,really put us of our food before we started, pictures above radiator are so dusty, it's a shame but I don't sit eating at home in dirty surroundings so I'm certainly not going to pay for the privilege.

Inviting open fires on a cold winter afternoon, the staff were friendly and efficient. The menu was lovely something for everyone’s taste either a light bite or a nice home cooked meal with great desert menu all at a reasonable cost.

My friend and I stayed here for bed and breakfast last weekend, and had dinner on Saturday night. I cannot fault anything about our stay. Everyone was so friendly and professional. It is the best gluten free menu, I have ever had, and I eat out regularly in Glasgow and elsewhere. The bedrooms were spotless and lovely and cosy. Breakfast was also excellent. If you want a restful and relaxing break I can't recommend it enough. We also met a few of the friendly locals who made us feel very welcome. It was also very reasonably priced in those challenging times. Very well done to everyone involved in the running and management of this lovely hidden gem. We can't wait to return.

1st time visit in a along along time and won't be back, booked a table and turned up and rudely spoken to from the member of staff who was a waitress very snappy and abrupt told to find ourselves a seat and a table, nothing about how to order, waited for drinks order to be taken, when it came to food order the waitress NEVER asked about Allegries or intolerances. The welcome was absolutely disgusting,The waitress when ordering food for the table i ordered 2 steak pie and the waitresses the reponse was they both for you, food was on the luke warm side no check back done, until we had finished, the presentation wasn't the nicest on the plate and the dessert wasn't the best either, the question on my mind is has this place changed hands???

Had a great lunch here, it’s a perfect little village pub with open fires, traditional food and lovely friendly staff. Laid back and welcoming pub vibe the food is excellent too.

Went here many times. I find the staff welcoming, the pub offers a cosy ambience with its open fires and the food is lovely. I particularly like the meat pie. The veg is perfectly cooked and so are the potatoes.

We had dinner at the Lion & Unicorn and were impressed. Place looks nice from the outside, old worldy and has the same feel inside. Very comfortable with the open fire going, it was giving off plenty of heat. We had booked earlier online and we got a message back quickly to say we were booked in , place was quite busy, the staff were very friendly and efficient We had the Balmoral Chicken, with nice chips, haggis and lovely fresh vegetables. The meal was scrumptious and filling, to full to try the sweets. Finished it off with a stout and a Baileys. Can highly recommend this place

We were drving from Falkirk to Aberfoyle, looking for somewhere to have an early evening meal and thought the Lion & Unicorn looked good. Turned out to be a great decision. It is a welcoming, cosy Inn with plenty of tables and serving traditional pub fayre. Obviously we called in without a booking at around 5.00 and got a table no problem. But it was evident that this is a very popular pub and was very nearly full when we left. Booking may be necessary in the evening. As for the food, three of us had fish and chips and one the steak pie, all of which were high quality, tasty and left no room for sweet. Staff were friendly and efficient, the Inn has a lovely ambience and the prices were reasonable. A result all round! Highly Recommended.

New to the area we’d had the restaurant on our list to try for a while. We were not disappointed. The menu was very comprehensive - something for everyone! Delightful young girls as servers. We booked here as staying in the Thornhill Hill down the road, came both nights we were here. Both meals were exceptional. The food was fantastic everyone thoroughly enjoyed everything they had and the staff could not have been more friendly. They even remembered that we were here the second night for a special birthday and helped us celebrate by putting a candle in the desert and singing happy birthday. Special thank you to the owner.

Arrived in Thornhill to find the Hotel & Restaurant had a large car park. We were quickly seated in a very pleasant restaurant. Lots of choices on the dinner menu and we started with Homemade Haggis Fritters with a Whisky, Honey and Grain Mustard Dip for my wife, and Breaded Flat Cap Mushrooms with garlic mayo for myself. We polished off the lot. Mains were Steak and Belhaven Best pie topped with a Puff Pastry Lid with chips for my wife and Chicken Fillet topped with Haggis, wrapped in Bacon and served with a Whisky Cream Sauce with chips for myself. We were also served a sharing bowl of mixed vegetables. Generous portions which we struggled to finish. We couldn't manage dessert, but had welcome cappuccinos to finish. With a couple of glasses of wine, the bill was £62.40, but worth it. We decided to return for the final dinner of our short staycation, so booked again before leaving. Staff were efficient, attentive and friendly.

1st every visit. Very friendly welcome from efficient staff. Great food, beautifully presented. We’ll definitely be back. As a footnote felt very comfortable with restaurant’s arrangements for the Covid restrictions.
