Called in today for a drink and meal with my husband, the pub has new owners, place has been decorated plus a new menu, food was amazing we had the steak pie and fish and chips, food was well presented and piping hot, gluten free well catered for, staff knowledgable and very friendly, so glad it has reopened. Would highly recommend!

After a cancelled visit elsewhere, on our way home we called into Lion & Lamb @ Horsley for a bar meal. I’ve never called in there before but will definitely be back again. We were made welcome from the moment we walked in and had a choice of where to sit. The food we ordered was absolutely gorgeous, my wife and son had the fish and chips and I had the chicken Parma with garlic and mushrooms, all portions were served with the most delicious chunky hand cut chips and the portion sizes were just right and we all felt that we’d have a decent meal, but unfortunately we hadn’t room left to try any desserts. The service by the staff was first class and they regularly checked everything was to our satisfaction. The waitress especially was so friendly and nothing seemed to be any bother whoever she was dealing with. Finally when it came to the bill, 3 meals + drinks for less than £60 was great value for money. Looking forward to our next visit.

Went on a Saturday afternoon. It was almost empty but we were hungry so stayed for food. Fish and chips, fish sandwich, two kids meals. Food quality was dire. I work in the nhs and the patients get better food. The fish was soggy, think it’d been microwaved. Kids goujons burnt. Cheeseburger without cheese - then given slices of plastic American cheese to put in. Fish sandwich came in a spiced naan bread ?! It’s cafeteria quality food when it should be country gastropub. Absolutely would not return. The fact it was empty on a weekend should have been a warning which we missed. There’s a play area but it’s really run down, broken, perhaps even dangerous. Wouldn’t recommend coming for this.

Where to start? The glasses were all dirty to the extent that the colour of lipstick of the previous user was visible on some. Despite asking for clean glasses none came and no apology. Everything was sticky from the table, to the condiments on the table, to a strange patch on the bathroom floor… the service was terrible - our order taking an hour to come when there was hardly anyone else in the restaurant. No one checked if we needed more drinks during this time or came to tell us it would be quite so long for a one course meal. Some of the food was okay but the chicken tenders were dry and the steak was small and disappointing. No one checked whether our food was okay and we found a hair at the bottom of a bowl of fries. We left without bothering with the kids included desserts because everyone had had enough. The play park outside used to be nice but was now tired and worn to the point of potentially dangerous with loose wooden stakes. We will not be back and would not recommend either.

I recently visited The Link and Lamb in Horsley, and the experience was incredibly odd and disappointing. Upon arrival, it was clear that there was no proper management, with a bunch of young, inexperienced staff trying to run the show. The lack of organization was immediately evident when we heard the table behind us complaining about the bar running out of ice. Our drinks took a while to arrive, and in the meantime, we witnessed a couple get up, refuse to pay for their meals, hand the bartender £20 for their drinks, and leave without touching their food. The couple behind us were also unhappy with their meal and left their crumble dessert untouched because it was cold. Then, a family arrived, and it became apparent they had pre-ordered the pork. They got their drinks and waited around 20 minutes before someone came over to inform them that there was no pork available. Understandably, they walked out as well. The entire stay was awkward and uncomfortable, with complaints about food echoing around us. We decided to stick to drinks only due to the overwhelming number of food-related complaints. It's such a shame because this place used to be lovely. Unfortunately, I won't be returning anytime soon.

We came for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago and it was very disappointing. We were there over two hours and waited 30 minutes for drinks alone. It was busy but there was no communication to say there would be a longer wait. There was a huge queue of people at the bar complaining about the wait asking for money back, and all surrounding tables were also complaining creating a negative atmosphere. We would have went elsewhere if it was not to late in the day and able to get a table somewhere else. Staff seemed really stressed and lots of mistakes were made that weren't dealt with very well. We had the wrong food brought out to us, numerous drinks forgotten about and empty glasses never collected. Such a shame as the food is nice albeit overpriced for what it is was. £4 for a side of mash potato is very steep for the very small unappealing portion you get. We came to this pub for lunch about 4 years ago and were very impressed however we will not be returning after this.

We had a lovely Sunday roast in the beer garden surrounded by countryside and birdsong. I'm avoiding high carb foods and the team happily swapped the Yorkshire Puddings and Roasties for Cauliflower Cheese for me. Many pubs charge me extra to do this, so this was a nice touch. The service was fantastic. The team even let me give my eBike battery a wee charge while we were there. Just all-round fantastic surroundings and service. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Came a couple of months ago and although the service was poor, the Sunday lunch was really nice so thought we would give it another go. What an endurance, was hoping the slow service the previous visit was because it was really busy, however, on this occasion much quieter and if anything the service was worse. The staff were really nice and smiley but they have obviously not been trained very well. Initially stood at the bar for 5 minutes waiting to be shown to our table that was booked, but we weren’t acknowledged. Once sat we waited 10 minutes for the waitress to come and take our drinks order. 3 out of the 4 drinks arrived, we had to grab someone’s attention to bring the other one. Nobody came to take our order so had to catch a waitress attention after a further 10 minute wait. Starters arrived promptly and were good. Main courses also arrived within reasonable time, however, the roast dinners were not great. Very bland gravy and well done roast beef which was supposed to be served pink. Didn’t bother to complain as got the impression there would have been no interest. Nobody came to offer if we wanted dessert or the bill so eventually went up to the bar to pay. Really poor experience, considering we were sat next to the bar and staff were walking past continuously but not once asked about anything. Unfortunately will not be back.

Went for Sunday Lunch on 3rd March. Been many times and its always been decent. Started off having to return two drinks as the glasses were absolutely filthy - unwashed lip covered filthy. Staff then poured the contents ( water + coke) into a clean glasses and gave the drinks back - I then slightly dumb struck complained again. We got fresh drinks. Starters were good but the Sunday lunch was a joke. One slice of meat - ONE! , one roast Potato, 2 carrots and some undercooked broccoli + gravy. I won't be back as it was obvious profit has overtaken the reality of what a Sunday dinner should be. Staff again are normally great but on this occasion they were way off. Seemed understaffed and over leveraged in their duties. Cheese cake was awesome as always - unfortunately many other things were very poor indeed. I won't be going back unfortunately.

My friends and I go to the Lion and Lamb every couple of months and it has always been wonderful. Sadly last Saturday it was horrendous. The place was freezing cold, I had to keep my coat on the entire time. But worse than that we waited 55 minutes for our food, when it finally came it was stone cold and the portion was miniscule, the salmon was the smallest portion I have ever seen and the price was over £18 ! We sent it back, ten minutes later it came back exactly the same, cold. There was only one waitress on and it was quite busy, all around people were complaining about the long wait for food. I asked the waitress if the place had changed hands, as it used to have such high standards and decent food, she said not, but they were training a new Chef, not sure how that's going to work out for them. We won't be returning or recommending this restaurant, they didn't even have the good grace not to charge us for the awful food. So sad when a place goes downhill like this, it's like the owner just doesn't care anymore.

We don’t visit this pub very often as it’s quite a distance from home, but never been disappointed here. It’s always a treat. The chef genuinely understands food and flavours, so this is a cut above standard pub grub and is sensibly priced too. Particularly recommend any of the seafood dishes as all very fresh and expertly cooked and seasoned. Can’t praise it highly enough! Well worth a visit.

Booked for Sunday lunch. The pub was cold, due to the heating not working (this was not communicated when the booking was made on the day). But when I asked to move tables from the cold dining room where guests had kept their coats on, the staff did accommodate and move me close to the fire. The Sunday lunch itself was nice but it was ruined partially by being cold and served on a cold plate . The puddings were very good and there was a good selection. I think for the price of for 2 courses, I expect my food to be served hot. I had such high hopes for this pub after reading reviews. I do hope this can rectified.

Another excellent late Sunday Lunch here. Is now our "go too" destination for Sunday Lunch, when we want to expect excellent food & exemplary service. Very busy today even with a later booking at 15:00, but Jack greeted us with a friendly personable welcome, aplogising (although none was necessary, as already apparent how busy they were), & got us seated, with menus & drinks order taken & promptly delivered, & starters taken. Monkfish & Pheasant were met with equal appreciation, & again apologies for delays on main course service. Sophia also served with same excellence, (as do all the staff), but some things are worth waiting for, & our Roast Beef & Roast Pork were outstanding! ( could here other diners being told the Roast Lamb had run out, & subsequently the Roast Pork was too), but choosing to dine later in the afternoon, these things are to be expected. Having ordered shared sides of buttery Mash & Cauliflower Cheese, we were too full to partake of any desert, but all looked tempting, & can recommend from a previous visit. Mine was washed down with a couple of draught Blue Moon ales, the driver had to stick to diet Coke, howeverwe've had another tremendous Sunday Lunch, with exemplary service from Jack, Sophia, & all their colleagues. Can't wait to be back soon!!

Been quite a few times as more of a place we go because of memory’s. We went for a drink one summers evening and the menu looked great we had to order some things, food was really good, we looked forward to going back. Booked a table on a Friday night, great staff. Menu lacked and they had ran out of a couple of things. Terrine was nice, although one bit of bread for it. I’m all for a bit of “charring” but the Chicken supreme was burnt it did not taste great, truffle and Parmesan chips lacked the truffle and my partners beef was dry and the side order of onion rings never came. Got 20% off the bill. Was still £70. Sadly won’t be rushing back.

Having been recently for a lovely Sunday dinner, sat next to a roaring fire, I decided to go for a Friday evening meal out. The pub was quiet, and out of all the tables where we could have sat, we were placed near the kitchen in the bar area. I got the impression this was strategic, so we were near to bar and waiting staff. It was very cold evening outside, and there was no heating on at all inside, the radiators were clap cold, not helped by a nasty draft every time staff went in and out of the kitchen, with the door left wide open on a couple of occasions... I had to get up and close it. I even wandered round to see if their lovely fire was going, it was, but it had all but gone out, no source of heat here either, so no point asking to move or complaining. The meal was a set price, with a limited menu choice, but catered for vegetarian and vegan and was decent enough. Starter and main came swiftly, staff were approachable and pleasant, but dessert took an age to arrive and as time went on staff became less visible. I can't recall a drinks menu, maybe it was there behind the food menu which was on a clipboard... but be mindful as the wine I had was nearly £9 a glass, and I only found this out when the bill came, which was a bit of a shock at the end of the night! In fairness it was a good wine, but I wouldn't have chosen it if I'd known how much it was or maybe just had one glass not three! The experience was disappointing for the money spent, the atmosphere lacking, contributed to by a distinct lack of any heat on a very cold, dark evening. Please put the heating on!

This place has the potential to be one of the best in the North East. Food is fantastic, tasty, good portions and reasonably priced. Ambience also lovely - spacious and comfortable. It’s the service that lets the place down - although polite its unenthusiastic, and you have to physically ask for to order drinks, to order food, for extras, for cutlery, for the bill otherwise you could be waiting and waiting. Many things also sold out early in the afternoon. With an improvement to this, this place would be ace.

Not that extensive for vegetarians, however, what they do offer is very good. Their standard menu has a touch of flair and, again, is good food. Has a traditional pub feel, with a pleasant atmosphere. Reccomend a visit.

Visited with my husband and toddler over the Easter weekend. I had the monkfish curry, my husband the burger and my daughter the soup. The food was fresh and very flavoursome. It was nicely presented but a bit more expensive than we were expecting. Probably...

A gem of a restaurant hidden in plain sight. Excellent friendly service, good selection of interesting ales in addition to standard casks. An interesting menu, excellent quality ingredients that speak for themselves and generous portions. The place has a lovely ambience and is well worth a detour. I’ll definitely be visiting again. Second Visit: 18/3/23 Service was just as friendly and food excellent quality. Highly recommended

Just fancied a Sunday afternoon pint out! Loved it here in the past. Though we've never been in with Finley (our special needs son). I left the family in the car as per. So I can scout out the set up/situation. Went in to a beautiful looking pub/restaurant. "BINGO!" There's a log fire next to a 4 seater table set with cutlery. One of four empty tables in that area. Also plenty of other set tables in various areas of the pub. A lovely well mannered waiter asked if he could help. I explained "My partner and I with our two children, one of which is special needs. Were wondering if it would be possible to have that specific table next to the fire for drinks only?" He said "We're not to busy I'll just ask." As he went to ask the guy working the bar... An angry woman to my left. Who reminded me of "a slightly less approachable version of the psychic off the Poltergeist film". Interrupted to say: "Sorry no! Those tables need to be used for food! We're too busy!" Leaving the waiter feeling very uncomfortable, and asking if he could seat us anywhere else. Unfortunately not I left! "Don't go towards the Lion child!!" 1/5

We had a fabulous lunch. We chose the “light bite” menu and had chips on the side. The menu was varied and suited all of us. I must say that the Chicken Caesar Flatbread was superb. The staff were lovely, so friendly and efficient. They ensured that a disabled parking space would be available for my husband, in fact they went above and beyond. The pub was very busy even though it was Monday lunchtime. Perhaps the sunshine brought people outside. We will definitely choose The Angel again as a delightful place to meet with our friends.

A decent chain of restaurant/ pub. Nice Sunday lunches ( although my meats were warm rather than hot) I'll happily return

Take out Fish and chips at their very best! That's almost all that needs to be said. Don't expect to run in grab a bag of chips and run out, my experience is that food is cooked to order. Fish bigger than the dinner plate we put them on and enough chips to feed a family. Absolutely delicious fresh Haddock, such a happy change from the thawed out weeks old frozen dross served by many inner city F&C shops. Not the cheapest (obvs) but recommended without hesitation.
