Read the reviews that said Lewis fish and chips in the top ten .... don't believe it serving total rubbish scampi burnt and dry fish over cooked with hard batter and chips under cooked ... total over priced rubbish What a total waste of money

Glad we walked away from the ones by the car park which looked overcrowded and rushed. Lewis's had lots of attentive staff and the meals were fantastic. I went for the pie but seeing the wonderful fish my family had left me jealous! Would make this my 1st choice in town and if I go again, I'm having fish!

Had take away from here, cod & chips, haddock & chips and some onion rings. The onion rings were really good, but the rest I would say was good, certainly not brilliant. We came here last year as well, and I remember it being much better. We did order at peak time, about 6:30pm, then had to wait 30mins for the food. Chips were absolutely fine, but just good not greet. Fish was nice, but a little dry in parts. Didn't seem as fresh and well cooked as last time. I would say avoid peak times, so either go before 5 or after 8pm. Or do the same as me, next time you're in Seahouses try somewhere different.

Best fish and chips that I've ever had. Large fish, with delicious crispy batter and a portion of chips with loads of salt and vinegar. One portion fed 2 adults well. Ignore the other restaurants rights by the harbour and walk about 50m further up the hill to this one. You won't be disappointed.

Friendly staff, nicely decorated and clean. The chips were decent but the fiah: it was not good at all. Mushy in texture, and dense batter, doughy in the middle and solid/ flat in texture. This is a place set up to serve tourists so I do understand the high prices (£42 for x3 F&C', 1 curry, 1 peas, and one large chips), but either we caught this on a bad day, or there is little love in their craft.

Absolutely unacceptable! So this review may only help people with allergies to certain foods. However it left me so flabbergasted, if it helps just one person avoid a severe, life threatening allergic reaction it will be worth it. My son has a severe nut allergy. Just when you start to think, due to current media attention that food establishments may be getting the idea that they need to be on top of potentially life threatening allergens they use and rely these clearly to customers, somewhere like this comes along! No obvious allergen information or warnings in sight and at the end of the day it's a chippy, even those absolutely vigilant with their allergies are unlikely to check for allergens in a simple bag of chips. What a mistake this could turn out to be! My son wanted scampi and as it was a bit different to the regular cod and chips I enquired about allergens. The person serving did not if this was an issue but asked her supervisor who then informed us. "Errrr actually we can't cater for people with nuts as we fry Snickers bars in the same oil as all our other products" There are no words for the reckless disregard of this without displaying clear warnings this practise goes on... Shows a total lack of education around good allergen practise and is not acceptable.

Had lobster and shredded crab on fries. There was a line but service was speedy. Fries practically crispy (or as if they had been crispy but gotten wet). Lobster bites nicely battered, and partner enjoyed the crab. Appreciate the liberal use of paper, which made it easy to turn it into a picnic spread. If I ordered it again, I would try getting the fries without closing the box, to avoid condensation.

After a long hike I decided to call in here to have fish and chips! Whilst the food and service was good I did find it a little expensive to sit in (like most places in Sea houses). Tea, bread and butter etc were not included in the price and had to be paid for as extras, I’d hate to think what a family of four would have had to pay. Which is fine if you’re local but we drove an hour round trip each night from our Airbnb and it just felt a bit ridiculous that we only found them open by accident one night out of 3! We've recently had a takeaway fish & chips from Lewis's, the standard of chips have definitely changed depending on time of day that you go....they seemed like the hard scraps from the bottom of the fryer, stuck together & hard to separate without squashing them. In advance of our first visit to Northumbria everyone said “You have to get fish and chips at Seahouses”. Lewis’s rates highly everywhere so that's where we went. The haddock was really fresh and delicious but not especially light and crispy batter. The chips were everyday average. Not entirely soggy to be fair but lots of bits, quite hard, as if they'd been sitting for a while keeping warm- which they weren't likely to have been since it was 5.30pm and busy. Disappointingly it wasn't the outstanding fish and chip experience we’d been told about. For that I’d join the long queue at The Castle Fish and Chip shop in Criccieth, North Wales. Really good fish and chips are memorable.

Initially disappointed with the size of the potion of chips... BUT the haddock was to die for. Best fish I've had in at least 12 months (so well over 60 battered fish), it was at least 3/4 inch thick throughout, beautifully cooked and a great batter. I'll happily do without a few chips for a fish that good. Onion rings fresh and crispy and a fair number for the price while curry and peas as you'd expect. The prices generally are also good for the location... the cost of fish, chips, and onion rings here was less than just getting a fish across the road. Really efficient takeaway service, fast and polite despite being really busy. Well recommended all around!
