Lewis's Fish Restaurant in Northumberland

We visit Seahorses a few times a year and have visited most restaurants in Seahouses. Experience keeps bringing us back to Lewis's for the quality,choice, and especially quantity!

Had small portion of fish & chips (child's meal) which was more than enough. Fish was delicious but the chips were awful and left most of them

Last time we visited Seahouses we ate here and loved it. This time we had take away. 2 Fish n Chips, 1 Sausage n Chips, 2 Mushy Peas and 1 Curry Sauce. £35 - not cheap. The portions were large but the chips weren't great. Big batter but a fairly skinny bit of fish inside. Despite reminding the server, we were missing one of the portions of peas. So, disappointing. With the competition nearby, and the sea on the doorstep, there's no excuse to serve less than excellent, and this fell far short.

OK fish and hallumi but accompanying chips were very poor. Nice to sit in booths for privacy. Hallumi was tasty. ...........

Visited Lewis’ from TripAdvisor reviews and wasn’t disappointed. Four of us visited for a late lunch, about 2pm and enjoyed our meals. I had cod, chips and peas and the portion was massive. Cooked beautifully and the service was lovely. Very friendly staff Also, for those who have a public toilet phobia, don’t worry 👍 the toilets were exceptionally clean and well maintained. Deffo a massive bonus. Would recommend and definitely visit again when in Seahouses

Fish brill chips to much and warm gave the kids too big a portion and put them off

£11 for fish and chips the fish was no thicker than a newspaper never again total rip off

terrible chip shop, lady serving was very rude and arrogant never been before but kindly asked for chips twice and some forks to eat them with as we were taking out, said that was fine, upon collecting chips no forks were in the bag or wrapping its self so went back in and kindly asked for 2 again. Same rude lady slammed them on the counter and said ‘you don’t need to keep asking for forks!’ Well if they were put in the bag like I had nicely asked the first time I would not have needed to ask again. Very rude and had a terrible attitude towards customers for asking a simple question. First time I have came here and will not be coming back again. Rude staff. Would avoid.

Visited here on our way home from staying in Berwick upon tweed, excellent service from our waitress and the food was fantastic! Would definitely recommend!

Simply superb fish and chips, done properly with efficient service. Good value too (£15 and 60p for bread and butter - what can you find nowadays in any restaurant for 60p!?), especially compared to the more glamorous places off the roundabout. Look no further if you want the real deal.

Very nice fish and chips in Seahouses, you won't go wrong here and some regulars came in while there so that's also a good sign in my book. Crispy batter and fluffy white fish. I had the steak pie which was served with a generous portion of gravy in its own dish. The kids fish and chips were big, in fact everything is big and you won't leave here hungry!

Great fish and chips, jumbos and mushy peas. Gluten free fish bites were spot on. Defo recommend especially if gluten free required.

Tasty fish and chips. Sat in the restaurant and was very quiet but the cod was very good so I feel it deserved to be busier. Hope they get super busy as the season picks up. Nice portion sizes and restaurant clean and tidy. Restaurant was very quiet but takeaway steady so staff were a little under utilised. Asked for fish to be cooked well done and they kindly delivered, nice fish and chips will eat there next time we are at Seahouses

First time at lewis's. Attentive young ladies served us. Restaurant decorated nicely. Fish chips lovely. Hubby had scampi. Peas curry sauce very tasty. Big portions too. Would definately recommend a visit

The cafe was quiet seated at a booth , moved as very dull as 2 bulbs out , moved to another booth , not very comfortable hard wooden benches ; we ordered from the menu £17 for cod chips and mushy peas disappointed with mine flat batter and unappetising anemic chips , Lucky to give 2 stars but gluten free meal went down well and staff are a happy bunch . Our friends were recommended this cafe My recommendation would be to avoid this tourist trap

Stopped off here on the way back from a Scotland roadtrip because I'd heard from several people and reviews that the fish and chips were excellent. Unfortunately I found it to be only average - I've certainly had much better fish and chips. Staff were welcoming and friendly, and I was served quickly. They only offer one sized portion of each type of fish priced at £15.50 - it is a very generous portion, but probably too much for those with smaller appetites or like me if you've just stopped for a light lunch breaking up a long journey. The fish and chips were nice enough but nothing special compared to what you'd find at your local. They do offer a variety of types of fish that you wouldnt get at most places.

Worst fish and chips ever!!! Inedible! The fish batter was soggy, greasy, and stale. I think the fish had been fried twice. The chips were also dry and stale. The price £12.95 each, it’s very expensive to throw away, but it was so awful it couldn’t be redeemed

Very busy, however very efficient staff ensured speedy service. Food is excellent and reasonably priced.

Poor service (although it was virtually empty and staff stood chatting to one another?). When we got the food it was nice. But we waited an hour, they 'forgot' about us, even though we were the only people in the restaurant? Pity it's not managed better as it could have been a different review.

Went here with friends Never had battered haggis before - it was divine & so yummy Friends had the scampi which was very good So fresh & very good value Highly recommended

Sorry to be negative but both my wife and I found the haddock and chips very greasy. Couldn't finish them.

Ate here twice during our break to Seahouses. We enjoyed haddock, scampi & crab n fries. Everything was so tasty. Staff were busy but were very efficient in getting everyone served quickly. Would highly recommend.

Have to say that this one of the best fish and chips I've eaten in my life. Perfect chips and beautifully fried chips plus very generous portions, we will be back!

I cannot fault the care and attention that the staff gave to gluten free meal alongside a capsicum allergy. The manager was excellent. The food was delicious for myself and my sister. Price very reasonable (eat in). Great size tea pot. Enormous portion sizes. Homemade tartar sauce Wish lived nearby !

Take out Fish and chips at their very best! That's almost all that needs to be said. Don't expect to run in grab a bag of chips and run out, my experience is that food is cooked to order. Fish bigger than the dinner plate we put them on and enough chips to feed a family. Absolutely delicious fresh Haddock, such a happy change from the thawed out weeks old frozen dross served by many inner city F&C shops. Not the cheapest (obvs) but recommended without hesitation.

On a short visit to Seahouses, we decided to have chips and visited Lewis’s based on reviews. Friendly staff, quick service and fantastic fresh chips - we thoroughly enjoyed them.

We always look forward to getting our fish and chip tea here on our arrival in Seahouses, the quality and value is always consistent and the portions are generous.

I would say that this is the best fish and chips shop in seahouses. Food wasn't greasy at all and the fish was excellent. Definitely try here if you are in the area.

Excellent. Not immediately visible from the main junction and initially appeared empty. However, don't let this put you off. Loads of seating to the rear, great staff. Didn't skimp on anything. Not a sauce packet in sight ... load provided in a pot. Will come again.

Food was amazing - chips were crispy as was the fish batter. Staff were friendly and helpful. Lovely chippie, would recommend

I was on a day trip with several others and stopped off a Lewis's for fish and chips because we had been there last year and enjoyed them. They certainly didn't disappoint and we'll be back next year.

Ate in the restaurant attached to the chip shop. We both had the seafood basket from their specials board. It was a mix of Calamari, Battered Cod pieces, breaded prawns and Crab Croquettes served with a generous portion of chips, side salad and a choice of dip. It was all delicious especially the crab croquettes which I could have eaten a whole portion just of them!

Wow, ordered cod and chips and fish bites and chips and it didn’t disappoint as always, fish was delicious, portion size great compared to others in the area. 100% recommend and an absolute must try when visiting Seahouses.

Awful haddock dry thin and fish skin left on. Chips soggy fish batter was soggy too.

We called in for fish and chips and were highly delighted to eat proper chips...none of the triple cooked greasy offerings found in some local pubs but proper white cod in crispy batter and nice chips. Great service and for eating in the restaurant prices were reasonable. Will recommend and come again. Staff lovely and helpful too. Thanks Lewis'

Had a good few fish n chip dinners in my 65years but nothing comes close to this place. Absolutely superb. Can’t recommend it enough.

Can’t comment on food as I never got any, paid £11 for cod and chips, stood in the smallest and hottest waiting area for 20 minutes, I was order no.11 and they completely missed me, I was ravenous and could not wait any longer so went across the road and got a meal deal from the co op, enjoy my £11 for nothing any way Lewis :) x

Staff welcomed us on arrival, the menu included gluten free options and staff provided assistance with options when ordering for dietary requirements. Friendly staff and great food. The dining area was clean with plenty seating for family or group parties.

Never been but it would be good if the prices were on the website to make a decision to take away or eat in !!!

Amazing fish finger butty but I only got 4.5 and my husband got 5 whoppers.

Came here for the lobster and chips at lunchtime. There was 3 of us all gutted because the chips were disgusting, stale and cold must've been from the day before. The cost of the chips was only taken off one of us but we had to pay for the other 2 portions of rotten chips. We were told it was because of the potatoes they used. The lobster and fish were lovely just a massive shame paying nearly 60 quid and having disgusting stale chips.

Having come from a seaside town and worked in a fish and chip shop for a number of years I feel I'm in a good place to review Lewis's fish restaurant and trust me if you are in the area please go. The food was great and I can highly recommend the curry sauce. The staff were really nice and accommodating especially as we were quite a big group.

Banging fish and chips. Clean and simple tables. Service was OK but not very cheery to be honest.

Takeaway as a family meal whilst on holiday, for 5 adults and 4 children cost was very reasonable. Food is excellent, everything is fried in beef dripping which provides excellent texture to the batter and chips. Happily they also have a fantastic option for gluten free, which fries in vegetable oil, making it possible for veggies and vegans to enjoy a meal here.

Lewis’s fish restaurant in gorgeous Seahouses is the place to go if you are looking for a delicious fish supper. You won’t be disappointed as it is simply the best fish and chips I have tasted in the UK. Ordered fish in breadcrumbs for a change, it was so fresh and not greasy or oily at all with its golden crispy coating. All that was needed was a juicy lemon wedge for me to enjoy while sitting eating my yummy meal at the seafront. Wonderful super friendly service as always.

Read the reviews that said Lewis fish and chips in the top ten .... don't believe it serving total rubbish scampi burnt and dry fish over cooked with hard batter and chips under cooked ... total over priced rubbish What a total waste of money

Glad we walked away from the ones by the car park which looked overcrowded and rushed. Lewis's had lots of attentive staff and the meals were fantastic. I went for the pie but seeing the wonderful fish my family had left me jealous! Would make this my 1st choice in town and if I go again, I'm having fish!

Had take away from here, cod & chips, haddock & chips and some onion rings. The onion rings were really good, but the rest I would say was good, certainly not brilliant. We came here last year as well, and I remember it being much better. We did order at peak time, about 6:30pm, then had to wait 30mins for the food. Chips were absolutely fine, but just good not greet. Fish was nice, but a little dry in parts. Didn't seem as fresh and well cooked as last time. I would say avoid peak times, so either go before 5 or after 8pm. Or do the same as me, next time you're in Seahouses try somewhere different.

Best fish and chips that I've ever had. Large fish, with delicious crispy batter and a portion of chips with loads of salt and vinegar. One portion fed 2 adults well. Ignore the other restaurants rights by the harbour and walk about 50m further up the hill to this one. You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely fantastic, Massive portions, great chips. Fish had crispy batter and had skin on which I usually don’t like but the fish was so good I didn’t even care. The curry sauce was great and even when we were full we couldn’t stop eating it because it was so good.

We were staying in the area and decided to try Lewis’s - we were not disappointed- it lives up to its reputation. We had haddock and a fish basket with chips - amazing. The restaurant is suitably rustic and the service was great - food arrived quickly and very hot. Highly recommended

Friendly staff, nicely decorated and clean. The chips were decent but the fiah: it was not good at all. Mushy in texture, and dense batter, doughy in the middle and solid/ flat in texture. This is a place set up to serve tourists so I do understand the high prices (£42 for x3 F&C', 1 curry, 1 peas, and one large chips), but either we caught this on a bad day, or there is little love in their craft.

This was an excellent fish and chip dinner we had here, the chips were lovely and the fish was really good and the batter on the fish was perfect, quite easy to get this dis wrong but it was great, quite a bit more expensive than were we come from but we sat in and with a drink, a lovely meal, try it, you’ll enjoy it !!
