We booked a table but arrived early to see the 6 Nations Rugby in the bar where there was a brilliant atmosphere. We were then shown through to the restaurant where we had a fantastic meal, fish and chips for me and smoked haddock for my husband. He has 25 years of experience in the hospitality/catering profession in the UK, Ireland and USA and was very impressed. With a bottle of wine, pudding and coffee the bill came to £66 which we though was very reasonable. The service was excellent too and we'll definitely be going back!

Been here before and food was ok so decided to try it again. Was a bit disappointed this time. The 3 meals we ordered turned up at different times. Food was not bad to be honest problem was the way the fish and chips was served. They serve it in a basket which isn't very practical in my view as they put the fish on top of the wedges which makes it hard to just cut a piece of fish to eat. Wedges are quite big and dry too. The other 2 dishes were fine except they forgot the fries with the mussels don't think this should happen. All in all food was ok but simple silly mistakes lets it down.

We purchased a voucher deal through Living Social for a choice of platter each, including a bottle of wine to share. Booking was taken by Rachel, who was extremely helpful and friendly. She also served us, together with another charming gentleman. We had the hot grill platter and seafood platter, which were both excellent. The sticky toffee pudding (made on the premises), was the best we've tasted and not over sweet like some we've tried. We were made to feel very welcome it was extremely good value. We hope to return and would highly recommend.

A friend and I had been looking forward to afternoon tea at the Links for a couple of weeks, and we finally managed to find a Sunday afternoon to fit in with our busy schedules. We started with prosecco which was nice, but then they brought out the pot of tea immediately, which meant that it had over-stewed by the time we'd finished our prosecco. When the stand came out with a selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes, it was laughable. The assorted sandwiches consisted of cheap, thin, stale brown bread with grated cheddar, half of which had tomato...apparently this constitutes an assortment...The number of sandwiches was also embarrassing, three tiny fingers each, less than 2 slices of bread each. The "scones" were AWFUL. We were given half a scone each, which seems a bit stingy considering how cheap they are to make. These too were stale, and very dense. We also weren't given any butter for them, which might have helped with their dryness. Finally, the cakes. We were served a burnt orange cake, that actually wasn't too bad, and a very sticky brownie type thing. We noticed another table were given caramel shortbread and we were disappointed when our's didn't have the same. Also, they were served a whole scone each, although I did notice that they didn't eat their's, so they must have been as bad as ours. I wouldn't recommend this afternoon tea to anyone looking for a pleasurable way to spend their afternoon. Total waste of money.

We went along as a group of 4 on a very sunny Saturday afternoon for a Groupon Afternoon Tea. All 3 of the outdoor sections were very busy, with no tables available so we went inside and found a table by the window. Afternoon tea and sports bar don't particularly sit well together, but, due to the nice weather, there weren't too many people interested in the rugby on the tv's so it wasn't as noisy as it might otherwise have been. I don't know if they had expected the Groupon deal to be so successful, as there was only one young waitress servicing the tables inside and outside, and she was literally sprinting through the bar to keep up with everything. She didn't quite catch from our voucher that we were a group of 4, two of whom had been delayed trying to find parking. By the time the two Prosecco arrived, the remainder of our party had turned up, yet we had to point out that they were yet to order. Eventually, everything was served and looked quite nice, until we tried the scones. Totally inedible! Whoever had made them had been heavy handed with the bicarboante of soda. We pointed this out and were told that a new batch were just about ready and they would be brought to us once they were. When they arrived, there were only two, with fresh jam and cream; there were 4 of us in the party. When we pointed this out, another two were brought, minus the cream and jam, but with a strawberry! They were also nothing like the originals; bigger, softer, fresher and tasty, but nowhere near warm, so I doubt the "new batch" had been prepared on the the premises. Looked suspiciously like Greggs! Overall, not the best afternoon tea. Service was a chaotic and not attentive. A pleasant enough couple of hours but owing more to the company than the venue or the Afternoon Tea experience. Wouldn't recommend.

This bar sells itself as a sports bar. In fairness it has plenty of screens to watch although with the high stools at tables and low position of screens, some are impossible to see.We choose this bar to meet friends for the Scot/Eng rugby match. We booked a table to eat at 1pm and watch the pre game. The place was jumping(as we expected) however we had to ask at 1.40pm to place our order, we then had to chase the food up at 2.40pm. The food was good.By now the place was mobbed, the bar was well under staffed and getting a drink was absolutely impossible. We managed to get a drink for the start of the game and that was it until the end of game. One friend spent the whole second half at the bar with no result. The bar staff were under pressure and who I think was the "bar Manager" was rude and not coping!!They could have made a packet that day, but sadly were unprepared for such a big event.Nobody is a winner here..I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS BAR FOR A BIG MATCH.

I was visiting Edinburgh recently on a business trip, and I stayed at this small and cozy hotel. I didn't pay the bill, so I cannot say much about the value for money; they seem to have reasonable rates. The room was spacious and fully renovated. Nice and clean bathroom; perfect views over the park (I got one beautiful room in the first floor with wide windows).Pros: Great location, nice neighborhood, excellent rooms.Cons: Internet didn't work that day. The first floor gets sometimes noisy. They failed to find a gadget I left in my room, even when I called them back the same day.

Went for lunch here at the weekend and was extremely disappointed. Menu looked promising, however the "Posh chicken kebab" was rank and completely tasteless, a complete rip off at £9.00. Nice looking bar since refurbishment but unfortunately unable to deliver on the food and charging ridiculous prices for what rubbish is served to customers. Wasn't even asked by staff how our food was, hence the feedback here. Used to get nice simple bar food at reasonable prices at the Links bar and good atmosphere...not any more! No wonder place is deserted these days. Save your money and give this place a miss!

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I reserved a table for myself and two others in the restaurant for lunch today. The reception desk was unmanned when we arrived and a member of the bar staff showed us to our table, in the library, an attractive room. There were no other diners in this room or the dining room. The menu was limited, not a bad sign because that can usually be taken to mean that the food doesn't come from a well stocked freezer. We were to find out how limited the menu really was! One special of the day, chicken Caesar salad was not available due to their being no chicken. This ruled out the chicken dishes on the menu. The replacement choice of Moules Mariniere was also unfortunately not available because all the mussels had been used yesterday, a really busy day our waitress said. The next choice, seafood platter unfortunately could not be provided because the restaurant had run out of fish, which did for the fishcakes and the other fish dish. That piece of bad news was delivered by another waiter; not surprisingly the original waitress did not want to continue reporting recurring deficiencies. In addition to the absence of food, the same difficulty appears to have afflicted the manager because he did not arrive either despite our waiting for him. So we got up and left for another restaurant which was able to provide the food offered on the menu.I live near the Links Hotel and this visit was a trial to consider whether the restaurant could be included in our regular dining out schedule - much will have to change before this will be possible and I will not be checking unless I hear many good reports in the future.

I should start by saying it was the bar that I ate in rather than the restaurant, although I get the impression that the restaurant is just an extended area at the back of the bar. The Links is an excellent place for adrink on a sunny day with excellent outside area to front but I'd draw the line there. I went with my two year old for a snack at lunch. The bar was empty, no obvious menus - was told they were on a table under blackboard. Not bad bar food selection but I needed something for a 2yo. A kids menu was produced as well as a kids pack (nice touch). Ordered a chicken/bacon/lettuce sandwich with fries and pasta for 2yo. Took a full 25 minutes to arrive, the pasta was cheesy with a slice of grilled packet garlic bread. My 2yo gave it a miss, but not all their fault she is fussy, but the bread was inedible to a youngster, dry and uninteresting. My "sandwich" was on a toasted french loaf, which had dried out somewhat The chicken had been chargrilled and was tasty, the bacon cold. All in all not a success and not particularly cheap. Wasn't a case that the food was inedible, just bordered on ordinary.Service wasn't great, one guy super efficient but he seemed to be delivering food and clearing up. Stood at bar to pay and had one of these invisibility moments despite having just served someone next to me....As sais at top, if visiting stick to the drinks!

Maybe we were just very unlucky, and I do feel a little harsh writing this because the waiting staff did apologise profusely that they had unforseen staff shortages on the evening we visited but nonetheless we felt a little let down by the whole experience. The menu looked good, luckily really because we were sat for a good ten/fifteen minutes without even a drink, reading it while we waited on someone coming to take our order. The food was well presented but when it did finally arrive it arrived mostly cold or lukewarm.Wile the staff were extremely apologetic they offered no discount on our bill to compensate for the mediocre meal.

We ate in the bar which was a comfortable setting but lacked atmosphere, the service started off excellent but was affected when a large party arrived, as there was only 1 staff member on duty it was a while before we could settle our bill. A prestigious location, long established in the Edinburgh scene, has been given a makeover to both fabric and product. Lots of space in a versatile big bar, nicely presented adjacent restaurant allow 'mix-and-match' versatility between bar and restaurant, and combinations thereof. Given the plentiful competition, both down- and up-market within a small radius in Bruntsfield/Tollcross the menu cannot afford to be too adventurous, and succeeds in doing the basics really well. Friendly informal but professional service complete the package, which isn't the cheapest (Who wants that? Go elsewhere), but excellent value.
