Now known as Habib's and under new management, Cromford's No. 2 chippy is working hard to win custom from the long-setablished rival across the road. The offering has broadened to include kebabs and panini/pizzas - though we've found that not everything on the menu is available all the time... Generous portions, well fried fish and chips, good standard of cleanliness, seating outside and inside. Slightly more expensive than the ultra-competitive chippies along the road in Matlock Bath but a good local chippy.

These are the best fish and chips around being cooked in need dripping. They also cater for gluton free diets.

called with friends ,one person wanted a onion and cheese fry it no stock i wanted a fish without batter the nearest offering was a fish slightly battered they do not poach or steam their fish which for a fish and chip restaurant rather unusual, ordered brown bread informed they do not have it ,so after three attemps at items, i had the basic chips and mushy peas with white bread and butter chips was very good shame about the bread. the waitress was cheerfull but the other person did not acknowledge customers as they came in in all a mediocre meal

Thought this place was called wellingtons? anyway always great service and excellent gluten free fish and chips, we reckon it is the best in Derbyshire and if we fancy fish and chips we are happy to travel here from Derby. So much better than georges!!

I've only ever had take away fish and chips and each time they have been great. Haddock is always nice and meaty without that sour bleached taste some places serve up with inferior fish. Chips good and crispy unlike the soggy mess from over the road. Staff always friendly and can have a bit of banter.

Echo everything kathyww1 wrote regarding ringing in advance, how they cook GF and the name change to Wellingtons. Definitely the best GF Fish and Chips I've had, cooked fresh and good, friendly service. Lots of GF options available other than fish. Will happily visit again next time we are in the area.

Let me start by saying that I went to this restaurant on 28 August 2017 and had a small gluten free fish and chips. The food was delicious and once there I discovered that their beans, mushy peas and curry sauce are all also gluten free. I think this restaurant has changed its name to Wellingtons and has an advert in the window saying they do gluten free fish and chips. You can pre order using 07790741470. They use a chip fryer to fry the g f batter so it is never exposed to gluten contamination. They have to time the cooking of g f fish to when a batch of chips comes out so it can be a good idea to phone and see when they can fit a fry in or pre order and give a time when you will pick it up. I didn't mind waiting and while there another coeliac turned up who confirmed the food was good and problem free for coeliacs.

Visited Cromford yesterday and found this restaurant which serves absolutely gorgeous gluten free battered fish and chips (in my case with mushy peas) - heaven! Not only that, it's available every opening day too! The staff were lovely and friendly, the fish was cooked to order and the portion was listed as small but was to my eyes, enormous. What's more, I gather that they will soon be offering gluten free sandwiches too. Couldn't ask for more. Will be going back!

Not the cheapest place to eat, although VERY affordable. Quaint little tea shoppe type of place where every item of food is cooked to perfection and plenty of food per helping. Whether out for a family dy out or hiking the Derbyshire Dales this would be a place I would recommend to visit when feeling hungry

We came here for a quick fish and chips during a recent visit to Cromford. The fish wasn't great, but the batter was okay. The chips were a reasonably sized portion, but weren't exactly the hottest, so overall the experience wasn't great. The curry sauce was the best thing about the place.

Been here a number of times and food has always been good.Unfortunately on my last visit, the girl that emptied the bins, then came back to serve me without even washing her hands somewhat put me off going here again, especially as she was then handling food. Never been back since

The staff were incredibly eager to please. In hindsight too eager. The chips were average the gravy far too gloopy and the pie cremated in a microwave. Next time I'll be trying the other chippy in Cromford it looked a lot more popular.

Good value fish and chips in a picturesque setting is always a treat and although this venue is right on the main road, there are plenty of quite places in Cromford where a bag of chips accompanied by a freshly fried fillet of cod can be enjoyed while taking in the views of this delightful little village.

The fish were of a good size saying that it was a small portion order ,wondered if they had given a standard size but apparently not , the chips were nice & firm , they were served in a cardboard tray with a lid. there was only a small amount of oil on the tray ,not swimming in oil as can be the case at some establishments. To be honest it was the best fish & chips we have eaten in the area & would recommend. The shop & restaurant are both very clean. The till receipt said Wellingtons Traditional so whether its part of a chain ?

We have called in to this Take Away/Fish Restaurant on two recent visits to the Peak District. The take away meal was served in purpose made cardboard containers which kept the food crisp and fresh. The sit in meal was excellent value, fish chips and peas, bread and butter and a pot of tea £8.75. Just what we needed before our journey home.

Whilst I cannot fault the quality of the food, the lack of toilet facilities causes me a major problem. Previously when we have visited here we were able to use the toilets belonging to the pub next door. Having mobility problems and on medication , I politely asked if it would be possible to use the staff WC. This was refused and I was told to use the public toilets which were a considerable distance away. It took me a very painful 25 minute walk to go there and back.I am 85 years old, leaning heavily on a walking stick . I feel very disappointed as i have visited this fish shop many times in the past.

Arrived around 10:45 am on 10/11/24 only to be informed that there was no hot food being served until 11:15 due to a take away order. Others in front of us left and we reluctantly ordered two coffees, a flapjack and a Pork Pie instead of the full cooked breakfasts we’d hoped for. We were charged twice for the Pork Pie, which we pointed out and were subsequently refunded for. We sat at a table that had the previous occupants breakfast plate on it (which was never cleared, considering the waiting on staff weren’t serving any food at the time) and waited for our coffee which did not arrive. We fetched it ourselves from the counter, at which point around 11:05, they started taking breakfast orders again. The place seemed poorly managed and why you’d turn away valued customers for a take away order is beyond me.
