Limoncello in Northumberland

Dined here on Wednesday 21/05/25 . Couldn’t fault it in any way. The atmosphere was very friendly as was the staff. They were cheerful , polite and had time to stop and have a chat. Food was excellent and served reasonably quickly after ordering. Well worth a visit if you are in Berwick.

Brilliant find. Just passing through and looked for somewhere for lunch. The sun came out and it was just like sitting in a restaurant in Italy. Great service and food - probably the best pizza we’ve ever had. 100% recommend.

Went with my husband for lunch. The starter of potato skins and dip arrived. Two small dollops of dip on the chipped plate with potato skins, no presentation to speak of and not appertising at all. My husband's pate also looked thrown on a plate. But a completely different crockery set to mine. It was like I was eating in charity shop. Whilst trying to enjoy a pleasant meal the staff were organising bottled drinks on the table across from us, it was like the charity shop had just taken a delivery. So you let it pass and the mains arrived. We got matching chipped plates this time honestly I jest not. My husbands fries came in a basket on a plate, mine came after and he just put the basket of fries no plate directly on the sanded rustic wooden table, yes nice. This restaurant has displayed above the table of bottled drinks 5 star hygiene certificate. Food was edible but chicken over cooked, tough and we were past the point of enjoying the meal. Do not recommend and will not return. I'm sorry for the hard working staff who made every effort, when the manager clearly needs to understand the very basics of food hygiene and customer service

Decent food but Poor service.. good service is the key to a good restaurant imo

Wow, what a fantastic restaurant and superb value for money. Great service from all of the staff, thank you we will be back soon.

Discovered this wee gem on a day trip to Berwick on Tweed. We had a late lunch outside as we had our dog with us. The staff were very friendly and the food was good. It was served hot and fresh. Reasonable prices for soft drink.

Called in for lunch lovely day people sitting outside and in but loads empty tables walked into restaurant and were ignored woman mopping floor just ignored us and carried on a young waitress walked past and said have a seat there on a large table by door and I will come back and sort you a table waited about another 5 mins and woman mopping floor decided to come over told us to come back in half hour i explained the waitress had told us to sit down till she got us a table she then very rudely told us she’s just a waitress And told again come back in half hour in a half empty restaurant she obviously didn’t want customers and didn’t value the waitress .very rude and abrupt and needs a lesson in customer service certainly won’t ever go back

Prawn cocktail came with no cutlery and not on a plate so nowhere other than directly on the table to put lemon once squeezed. Risotto was ok as was pasta. Pudding came served with a soup spoon. And what sort of Italian restaurant doesn't serve tiramisu!!

Very nice well prepared food reasonably priced. Excellent service.Thought the portions were on the small side.

Up here for a trip with my partner and went here 2 nights in a row and the food and service has been phenomenal - really can’t fault it, it was his 31st birthday and they even accommodated a birthday dessert with my special requests. Portion sizes and quality was 10/10!!! Definetly recommend

Food was average, cold drink was warmer than bath water. Table placement could better. Tables all really wobbly.

Food is okay. Staff are slow and inattentive. Barely half full dinning room and service was extremely slow. Time between starter and main may as well have been breakfast and lunch. Staff didn't think to replace used cutlery after the starter so we took from an empty table what we needed. Could be a nice little restaurant if staff where bothered.

Yanko ( my waiter ) was a very quick and helpful and polite young man. Providing me and my friends with a pleasant evening.

Staff very friendly great service and amazing food

Excellent. I don't know why this place hasn't got better ratings. We had 3 courses for £8.95 at lunchtime 12-5pm. That's the price as a pizza. Such good value. We went at 4.40pm. Soup or potato skins, we both had skins. One pizza and one pasta as the mains. Sides of salad and chips. 2 large beers, a cocktail, medium wine, 2 coffees (as the third course instead of ice cream) and a dessert. All for £56. Great value. Really good quality. Highly recommend. 2 really satisfied tourists.

Lovely setting food ok you get what you pay for chef was screaming at the staff which was abit off putting. Windows and doors all open i don't think it's that warm yet was like sitting in wind tunnel

Visited this restaurant after it was recommended to me, but sadly it was a terrible experience from start to finish. I ordered a pasta dish and added the subcharge for tiger prawns, yet when the food arrived there were no prawns included. Not wanting to make a fuss, I decided to eat it as it was but after one bite, I regretted it. The pasta was undercooked and hard, and the only thing I could taste was the water it had been boiled in. The sauce was almost flavourless, except for chunks of wet onion that tasted as if they’d been boiled separately. It was genuinely unpleasant, and after a few attempts I couldn’t eat any more. My partner’s meal wasn’t much better he ordered the seafood pasta, which was seriously lacking in seafood. He did, however, enjoy the mussels he ordered separately, which was probably the only positive part of the meal. At no point did any staff member check on our table, despite it being clear that I hadn’t touched my food. When I went to the bathroom, it was grimy and poorly maintained — not something you expect at a restaurant where hygiene should be a priority. When I returned, the plates had been cleared without any questions or concern. We paid the full bill (cash only, which felt suspicious in hindsight) and left without anyone even asking if everything was okay. Overall, very disappointing — poor food, poor service, and questionable hygiene. Definitely would not return or recommend.

Good value if buying the lunch special however would not buy from menu. Food is tastless and basic. All show and no substance. Ordered a side salad which arrived on a long plate, would be lucky if there was anything on the plate. Very poor quality overall in a nice setting. Ovee 5 staff and struggled to get service. We receives starters before drinks and waited 15 minutes for the bill, after asking, to which lots of waitresses walked past and did not enquire, or we asked multiple times and were not met with receipt.

We called in for food today, and we weren't impressed. The restaurant looks good and was busy. But we waited a while to be seated with staff just walking past us. Noticed it was a cash only place which seems odd. When we ordered drinks and food my daughter, the waitress was very friendly and polite. However, the place seemed disorganised as the drinks took 15mins to arrive. Don't even ask about the food! We only ordered a kids spaghetti and enquired with the waitress after 25mins where was it, she went to the kitchen and they said there'd been a mix up and they'd get on it. Another 15mins later still waiting so we asked for the bill to go, to be told it's coming. If my daughter wasn't starving at this point I'd have left. It also took us 3 times asking 3 different people for the bill before we finally got that. As a visitor to Berwick we were really disappointed with this place and I'm glad we weren't all waiting for food either. Very disappointed that they blamed the new waitress when it clearly wasn't her fault but a general disorganisation with the service in general esp reading previous reviews.

Great food but service was not the best

The service was quite slow and the roasted chicken was very sad. However, do try their pizza, definitely more worth the money than the tiny chicken. They have affordable lunch menu, not valid on bank holidays.

The lunch deal is fantastically priced for the excellent choice of food on offer. The staff were very helpful and cleared the way as soon as we arrived with my mother in her wheelchair and they were very nice to my five year old son who enjoyed the visit also.

Chicken Kiev was sensational, the best Kiev we’ve ever tried. The Arrabbiata was good. Portion sizes were adequate, but slightly in the small side. What let us down slightly on the night was that the service wasn’t great. We put this down to having what seemed to be quite a few new starters working and in training. We were not offered desserts or asked how our meal was and when it came to paying we had to go to the bar to pay by card.

We waited 20 minutes to have our order taken by a waiter who picked his teeth as we ordered. We waited another 20 minutes for the food. Cerys' chicken was undercooked (pink) and her rice was overcooked. My Caneloni was awful, the mince meat was dry and flavourless. It was a very poor evening.

Shame probably just a bad day Pizza was nice. poor kids meal short black hair in food & wrong wine served they did offer to change it but the wine was terrible & put me off ..Sorry but a bad exsperince for my family. Not fussy about the price just the quality.

We booked a table in advance by phone. When we arrived we waited for several minutes for someone to attend do us, but eventually I approached a waited to ask about our table. When I said I'd booked a table I was asked "have you got any proof?". This was apparently supposed to be a joke. For starters, we had garlic mushrooms, garlic bread with cheese, and bruschetta. The garlic mushrooms were very nice, the garlic bread was fine, but the bruschetta was very small. For mains we all had pizza. Two of the pizzas were undercooked and the dough partly raw. Service was pretty quick, though, the card machine was not working so we had to pay cash though the bill was very reasonable. The restaurant itself was very noisy. I wouldn't eat here again.

Staff unfriendly, Food OK, Not the best place to eat in Berwick.

We've been there for the second time unfortunately the portion this time was half as big, but not for everyone because there were other people sitting next to us who as you can see know the service very well and there was much more food on their plates and it was served nicer, we also got pizzas but without plates, when I asked about serving them the waiter said no problem and went in a different direction and started talking to someone unfortunately we finaly got the plates wen the pizza was cold , tonight a very bad rating for the entire staff because I'm not talking about one person here

The meet and greet staff were lovely and welcoming, the starters arrived, and all four of us were disappointed with the delivery. The young man literally dropped them onto the table, and the patè was disappointing, and my wife didn't finish her praw cocktail. However, we did enjoy our mains, and it is very reasonably priced, we will not be visiting again,

Was on my own and was asked to sit at a huge table at the door as other tables had been booked, which was draughty. Other people came in after me without bookings and were taken to other tables. The waiter forgot to come back for my order and another waitress came over 30 minutes later. It was another 30 minutes for my pasta to be served as they apparently were serving a big table. People who had come in after me were served before me. I was given the bill before I had finished my drink.. Not impressed.

Carbonara was good, but Bolognese had little flavour. And the garlic bread was a soggy undercooked mess.

Amazing service from Sultan and his staff.

Lovely Italian restaurant which was able to accommodate a couple with a dog as they designate a table for woofers. Our dog was treated to some treats and a drink whilst we looked through the menu. A big and varied menu to choose from. The pizzas were yummy. Special shout out to our waitress for the night Francesca who could flip from speaking Italian to Geordie in a breath, so so impressive. Maybe she is an Italian pretending to be a geordie? (😜). She took the time to recommend places to visit around the area, just an all round lovely lady. The couple from Bath.

This was a recommendation from a local and we were indifferent as I always just assume an Italian will be pizza and pasta. The place has a really nice feel when you enter and we were immediately seated. There’s a lovely outside space for dog owners if it’s dry. Pleasantly surprised with the day’s specials which were all seafood dishes and none had either pasta or a pizza base. Between us we enjoyed scallops, monkfish, sea bass and cod. Every bite was wonderful. The chef came out to check on us, and the service was spot on. Would highly recommend.

Food, drinks and service were top notch. The atmosphere is lively and friendly and staff make you feel really welcome. The quality of food is amazing and prices are very good. Try it you will not be disappointed!

JUST WOW! We were staying next door and was recommended eating here by the very helpful Vera. I’m so glad! We had such a great night with wonderful food, perfect atmosphere and superior service. The whole team couldn’t do enough to make our night a memorable one. And I have to make mention extraordinary value for the quality of our experience. Big thank you to Vera, Zoltar (please forgive me if I have this wrong) and the team, I just wish we could have stayed longer so we could go again.

Our waiter didn’t seem to know what a fruity cider was and had to check. Then, despite there being only three other tables occupied, we waited over 45 minutes for our starter—just two portions of potato skins. Even after prompting who seemed to be the manager, who insisted ‘it’s coming now’ it still took another 20 minutes to arrive. To make matters worse, our garlic bread (ordered as a main) arrived at the same time, clearly the result of a mix-up we could see happening in the kitchen. While waiting for our mains, we ordered a wine and a beer, insisting that our mains be brought out as soon as possible—even as we were still eating our starters. However, after a long wait, we cancelled the drinks and asked for water instead, only to be told shockingly, "Sorry, there’s no one to do drinks today." When our mains finally arrived (delivered by the chef in chef whites !!!) —a calzone and a pasta dish—they completely underwhelming. By this point, we just wanted to leave. The meal deal included dessert or coffee, but we declined and left as soon as possible. To top it all off, when I went to pay at the bar, I was hurried through the process by a more experienced waitress, only for my partner to later realize we had been overcharged by £8. We quickly got the money back in cash, but by then, the experience had already been ruined. Overcharged for this experience - sums up the disappointing service! The restaurant seemed incredibly disorganised! From what started as a perfect day, this meal was a real letdown. Such a shame, as this used to be one of our favorite places!

We eat out a lot and were looking forward to this meal but oh my god it must be the worst meal we have ever had if this place continues to serve food like this it will close. The excuse for such bad food was the chef was on Ramadan and un able to taste his sauces etc

Bruschetta starter good, false sense of what was later. Seafood pizza disappointingly low on seafood - chopped very small. Tuna & garlic pizza just some tinned tuna on pizza bread, quite dry. We were told it had 'no fresh garlic but some paste on the base' but we could not taste it. Staff not aware of %s of wines (not listed on menu) and seemed surly when asked Main gripe is the ladies' loos - the wasbasins & surrounds need a deep clean and regular attention, seems like they have never beeen cleaned properly at all. The outside walls need a lick of paint the patio area would look welcoming if it were a bit less shabby by daylight. All in all it is a shame that this place has the potential to be a great venue, it just needs a few tweeks or a better management team, it could be really good

Francesca, the owner , had a lovely bubly personality and made us feel at home . The food was very good and very reasonably priced and dog friendly too ! Great place , we would definitely go again .

Family meal out for my 50th, had a bit of a mishap with the kitchen and ended waiting longer then normal for meals to be served, but it was worth the wait the food was beautiful. Will definitely be returning

When here during the September break. Was very noisy music was far to loud asked twice for it to be lower. People next to us were laughing so loudly talking so loud I couldn't even hear my family over music and the guest next to us I honestly felt like packing up and paying for the drinks and leaving No waiter or waitress asked if our mean was OK no interaction during our visit. My daughter's pasta was cold plate was roasting but food was like warm.. Rest of food was hot! And the portion size my children's pasta was larger than the full priced pasta.. Crazy! Ordered nugget breasts they said we will bring them out at end of meal still waiting on them. Was total hectic.. When e we go this July on holiday we won't be visiting here been 3 times in total but last visit was terrible

Visited as a family of four and opted for the 3 course £7.95 lunchtime menu. We all chose potato skins to start & as it was the £7.95 menu, we were not expecting much, but were pleasantly surprised by the portion & choice of dips. Unfortunately, we had to ask a few times for the ice-cream deserts.

The three course lunch deal was great. We had the lasagne and carbonara and both delicious. As were the potato skins.

Lovely Italian restaurant next door to apartment we stayed at. The food was excellent and terrific value for money. Vera our host and all the staff were very attentive and highly recommend this restaurant if your in the town of Berwick.

Booked for 7.00 pm but kept waiting till 7.20. We are a tolerant family and admire good manners. We didn't receive any apology, in fact very little was said to us apart from taking our order. However, a very popular restaurant.

The night we were in it was quite quiet, so we got a table very quickly, drinks were ordered, and a food order was taken. The bar staff were quick and efficient but the food was served slowly The food was delicious, well presented and good portion sizes. The toilets were clean and fresh We gzve been in a few times in the past and it had been very busy, with many more staff. This is a good restaurant so give it a try.

Popped in for lunch and was delightfully surprised. 3 course set lunch menu was great value for money, venue was warm and had a cracking relaxed vibe. Food was better than we had expected. We will definitely be back next time we visit Berwick.

We were greeted by a cheerful waiter. Interesting interiors. Reasonably price for food. We had the Arancini stuffed with cheese.. beautiful!. I ordered the surf and turf with med-rare fillet done perfectly and unexpected surprise with mussels and juicy prawn. The tap in the bathroom is inspiring and would use that design in future. We went on a Saturday at 5pm and very lucky to get a table without waiting but do recommend booking.

Me and wife had evening meal with starters,wife's prawn coctail looked good but as she ate tomato 🍅this was black on bottom she was ill later that night won't go back

Delicious food, great service, beautiful atmosphere, and amazing prices! The staff here are incredibly welcoming and despite eating their lunch when we came in, they were so welcoming, happily served us and even allowed us to take in our dog! I ordered the Roma Pasta and it was SOOOO good (the waiter came to collect our plates and I was scraping the excess sauce off my bowl it was so good🤣). Would definitely come here again, everything was great! Even the toilets had great decor! 10/10, 5 stars, thank you Limoncello!! :) ❤️❤️

Arrived on 2 Jan expecting a lovely meal with our friends to celebrate New Years. However, it was so so so cold inside the restaurant. Yes it was cold outside but the door beside the toilets, where we were seated, was open for a long time to allow a delivery. All the diners had their jackets on and shaking. We mentioned to our server that we were all freezing but he just shrugged his shoulders. The drinks arrived and to be honest we were so cold we should have ordered a pot of tea. However when we did taste the cokes and lemonades, they were flat and tasteless. We mentioned this to our waiter when he brought the starters and he said he probably forgot to change the syrups after New Year’s Eve. The drinks were replaced no problem. The table we were sat at was lovely in appearance, however as it was marble and the temperature in the restaurant where we were sat was around freezing with a gale blowing in our feet, the meals cooled so much before we had a chance to eat them. The marble was so cold we couldn’t even rest our arms on it, even with jackets on. The soup and pastas were lovely, cold but lovely. The pepperoni pizza was cut into 8 slices but only had 5 thin slivers of pepperoni therefore 3 slices were margarita. This was a first anywhere we have ever been! However the ice cream was a huge disappointment for an Italian restaurant and the coffee was vile and was left untouched even though we were frozen. The hand dryer in the gents was broken also. When we mentioned the extreme coldness and the broken hand dryer to the lady who came to collect our payment, she simply said it was cold outside. Yes and it’s freezing in here, look at everyone. Sitting with jackets on shivering and throughly miserable and couldn’t wait to leave to get a heat. It actually was warmer outside than inside. So disappointed. We messaged the restaurant later on to provide our feedback and we were thanked for our comments and the manager would be in touch. Surprise surprise, radio silence. Would not return. Many lovely places in Berwick to eat where you don’t eat cold food quickly to leave to heat up and be dismissed by indifferent staff.

To think we almost didn't spend our afternoon at Limencello, which ended up to be one of many high lights on our specail family day reunion in berwick upon tweed. Vera kindly let us, a party of 7 sit in the quite part of restaurant, lights & noise was to minimum, the most perfect setting. We all got the £7.99 lunch offer which was phenomenal expecaily how much you get for the offer, starter-main & ice cream or coffee. Unreal absolute bargain. My niece & sister in law both had Strawberry Daiquiris and loved it so much. We had Vera accommodating us, she was so lovely, friendly, accommodating, excellent customer service and even cracked few Jokes. She was such a joy and must truly enjoy entertaining & making customers happy. Having worked front line in 4 & 5 star hotels, am all about customer service. Vera truly is like a shooting star, you rarely get to see that level of high standard & friendly customer service. I was truly blown away! Thank you so much Vera you made our time that extra specail! We all loved our time at Limecello wonderful place

For a Christmas family (group of 7, 5Adults+2Teens) gathering we found a lovely base for our night together at the Premier Inn hotel. We were not planning to have lunch at this Italian, as we were at the next door bar which was great also and not too far from hotel We had a peek at the restaurant on the way out and spoke to the staff about lunch. They were so inviting into this little lovely atmospheric place that we could not resist. It was especially inviting as we were looking for a bit of quietness with low lighting due to family needs. They were closing off a section as it was the end of lunch service. It looked perfect for our needs and Vera invited us to occupy the space for lunch. So we did and it was just amazing. The Christmas atmosphere was perfect level of decorations and music loudness. The service was good from all but Vera, who served us the most, stood out. She was supportive, energetic, funny, accommodating, and you felt that she was going the extra mile on her service with a genuine smile and warmth, to a level I’ve not seen in a long time! Well done Vera, you made our visit an amazing one. And I’ve not even talked about the food yet. A £7.95 three course lunch, a bargain nowadays! It was wonderful! And the quality and portion size was great. Choose soup or potato skins as starter, any pizza or pasta you want followed by ice cream or coffee. Thank you so much! Love you Vera!

They know what they're doing when it comes to carbonara. 5 stars would be the carbonara at an authentic italian restaurant in Bowness, Windermere, The Lakes that I can't remember the name of.

Average sunday lunch, be warned its cash only which is odd.

Atmosphere seemed lively with lots of people in, the bar area looked good too. The service was pretty nice with someone coming in and explaining everything. The food was a bit disappointing, didn't feel Italian at all. The taste was pretty similar for dishes and had very unusual ingredients (not bad, but just not Italian).

With a few small improvements this could be a great place

Four of us had dinner here on Thursday, 14th Nov. Food is excellent,good service ,friendly staff, lovely restaurant. Will be eating there again on our next visit to Berwick. Thankyou.

3 course lunch special exceptional value. Would have preferred soup hotter but the main course was delicious....tagliatelle bolognese and pizza, both very tasty. A single scoop of ice cream for desert but at that price no complaints. New starter server who was very pleasant.

Food was delicious and great value for money. However the service was so poor. Food and drink order was taken very quickly and arrived in good time. However once our server had taken the order we never saw him again. Had to try and flag another member of staff for more drinks, asked us if we wanted the bill before our drinks had even arrived then when we were ready to leave had to go to the restaurant bar to request the bill. All in all wouldn’t be back as service was not great which is a shame as food was good!

We stayed 4 nights in Berwick and ate here 3 times. Not only was the food delicious, but it was also excellent value for money. Thank you Limoncello.

This restaurant was devine we got there on Friday the 15/10/25 at 8.30pm and got a table even though it was busy and we didn't book. The staff were all lovely and the food was delicious and even the bar was so relaxing and friendly. The only thing I would say is that the portion sizes were small cause I normally struggle to eat a full bowl spaghetti bolognaise, and I scrapped the plate. Lol😆

Great value for lunch..3 adults lunchtime special including 3 soft drinks £32.00. We have had better but not at that price. No complaints at all though. Lovely young staff, I hope they are appreciated...
