Visited here many times but hadn’t been for a while. Sadly didn’t think it was as nice - baguette was very dry and stale and not freshly baked like they used to be. On the other hand however the panini was very tasty.

To be fair Limes is very close to where I work so its an obvious choice for lunch. But that said the staff are very friendly and there is a varied choice of toasties etc. This is not the place for a large cooked meal just light snacks at lunchtime. I like I can look out over the street and watch the passing people. There is also a toilet on site which is useful when you have a had a few coffees. You order at the counter and the food is brought to your table.

Popped in for breakfast just after 10am on a Saturday. Not a tricky order, just two of us. Coffee & teacake & a breakfast melt panini. Coffee came 15 mins before the food. Bacon looked like it had been cooked in a tumble dryer & tasted same. Teacake was cold and smothered in what tasted like cheap stork margarine. Was freezing cold inside. Kept coat on. What a disappointment

This was our 3rd Bedford cafe trying to get a dairy free jacket spud. The staff were happy to check ingredients and understood what lactose intolerance meant. The jacket was delicious with a good tuna mayo filling. The panini was heart shaped and full of tasty filling. We'll definitely be back when were in Bedford. Thank you

The cafe scene in this declining town is pretty miserable, to tell the truth. There are very mixed reports on Limes but I had a nice experience there. It's light and airy with its double aspect seating area and the staff are friendly and efficient. A nice touch is that you order at the counter, take your seat, and they bring it to you with a smile. Another nice old-fashioned touch is that they provide a jug of boiling water to top up your teapot. I didn't eat at Limes, so can't vouch for the food, although a croissant was fine. Overall though, it's got a nice customer-friendly atmosphere. Recommended.

I have been using Limes for many years, with the previous lady owner and now the newish ones. I have seen a drop in quality for some time, however I thought I would give them another go! Ordered the Italian on baguette, firstly made as a panini after waiting some 20 minutes finally turned up, already drunk the tea and my wife had nearly finished her lunch! Hardly any filling, small thin scraping of mozzarella a few strand of lettuce, half a dozen small olive halves, a mound of onion, no butter, very dry and very poor value for money for £4.60! Left the baguette and limes. Appears they don’t seem to care anymore, which is a shame! Won’t be going back! Now need to find a new lunch venue.

Came for hot chocolate and a bite to eat. Hot chocolate was very hot and had a good flavour. This came in a fluted glass rather than a mug. Flapjack was solid and the sausage roll was, well, different. There could have been meat in it but who knows. Service was perfunctory.

I've been to Limes probably a dozen times and it's one of my favourite places to eat lunch in Bedford. Always a warm welcome, courteous staff and plenty of choice on the menu. For a baguette and a can of pelligrino I can't think of anywhere I'd rather go. The clientele are generally on the older side of life so if you're scared of grey hair this won't be the place for you, but it's quiet and clean and very comfortable. I can't recommend it highly enough for a quick lunch break. Cheers Limes.

Their baguettes are just lovely with a good range of fillings from coronation chicken to Brie and bacon, there is always a hot tasty soup and a fabulous array of sweet and lovely cakes - the staff are attentive and lovely, as is the manager Guiseppe - ceryainly a great place for tea/lunch/snacks or just a little pick me up x

I used to really like this place and hadn't been for a while. Obviously it is now under new management. There were plenty of tables available but most needed to be cleaned. The prawn salad I ordered was not nice at all - they used the smallest prawns available, which are probably also the cheapest and there were bits of prawn shells in my salad. The sauce was fairly flavourless and the salad leaves were limp and didn't seem very fresh. The salad came out to me with cutlery wrapped in a dirty napkin! Yuck! It was seriously over priced too. The staff seemed very disorganised and confused. While I was there I saw them bring out a sandwich on white when the customer asked for brown bread, and I saw them checking with several customers about what they had just ordered. There is a communication problem here. I left 3/4 of my salad, if not more. I won't be returning. Such a shame! The salads used to be fantastic, tasty and fresh, and the service used to be really good too. There are many many better places to visit in Bedford for lunch.

Having enjoyed some wonderful coffee and a moment to relax i was not only astonished at the attitude of the man and his 20 something yearold son complaining about the 50p surcharge for transactions under £10 but also that after his son kept apologising the guy then asked for the shops Wifi code so he could sit there and complain on this site about the very establishment he was still sat in - you pathetic excuse of a man. Why not talk to the poeople who run the shop if the refreshments are not what you expect and if they charge 50p then pay it or clear off instead of ruin my day and cowardly come on here. Even though Limes do not get everything right all of the time (and i bet you don't either - just ask your wife) it would appear that they do everything they can to make everyones visit as pleasurable as possible and happily correct any life threatening mistakes, such as 50p on your transaction with a smile. You are not only a poor excuse of a human but a bad example to your son. Or you could apologise for being unreasonable, i would suggest face to face but that is probably beyond you.

Ordered hazelnut latte and it was awful far too sweet and sickly, much to much syrup. I ordered the gammon and cheese toastie which was a very bad decision, so little filling i.e. one slice of thinnest ham ever and so little cheese that once it was toasted the filling disintegrated not to mention the thinnest ever slice of bread, the £4.20 cost was an insult!

We went to Limes for tea and cake. We were greeted as we came through the door with a very cheerful hello and smile from staff. We have visited this cafe many times and have never been disappointed. Unlike some other "trendy" cafes in Bedford the Limes is a haven of tranquility, no one tapping on I phones/pads or lap tops. The staff in Limes have time for you and don't stand around chatting to each other ignoring customers, the lady whom I think is the Owner is always pleasant. I witnessed an elderly disabled gentleman being found a suitable table and made to feel very welcome all staff chatted to him and brought him anything he needed. Some cafe's in Bedford should send their staff there for training.

1st ever visit and we were not disappointed! The cafe was quite busy today (Easter Saturday) when we visited, but the staff couldn't have been more polite. Although we were told our food could be 10 minutes it was much quicker than that, and absolutely delicious, the baguette was probably big enough for my lunch & dinner though so unfortunately we did not sample any sweets on offer.Shock horror we had to carry our own drinks to our table (!) as we have had to in many other cafés we have frequented for lunch. The prices reflected the quality on offer, hardly expensive to compared to a lot of places in town and we were happy to send a tip up before we left! As we went to leave at least 2 members of staff shouted goodbye to us and wished us a good Easter break, it is very rare to find this kind of service in bigger shops nowadays.
