Lime Tree in Highland

SPECTACULAR is an understatement! Who would have thought we would have the pleasure to enjoy unique combo of Asian inspired food done w Scottish flair?! Complex spices expertly put together gives this elegantly well staffed locale a once in a lifetime experience to anybody that visits beautiful Fort William.

Fantastic stay at the manse apartment for our family. We stayed for 3 nights with three children and our dog. From the moment of arrival the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. Setting up a small fold out bed for our youngest and telling us to make ourselves at home. Great location for exploring the surrounding area and town. Lovely wood burning stove in the large living room. We left behind an iPad and their amazing service extended to taking the time to post it back to us. Very highly recommended!

We went for a quiet dinner on a Saturday evening, and this establishment did not disappoint. Very well constructed dishes, with great taste and texture, truly fine dining.

Excellent location as not in the high street but only 100 metres away so all the convenience but none of the noise. Also lovely view over the Loch. Service from all the staff was exceptional and the hotel had a welcoming vibe. Breakfast was excellent

It may look a bit "normal" from the outside, but once inside you'll be instantly charmed. The lady at the reception really made sure everything was perfect, and gave us nice recommendations about walks in the area. The room itself felt really cosy and authentic, with a nice view on the loch. The inside restaurant "The silly goose" is worth the trip by itself, with fresh local ingredients sublimated in a nice modern way by the young kitchen team. Really nice place for a romantic rest during a trip around the Highlands, or as a reward after climbing the Ben Nevis.

The hotel changed hands since August 2022! And it is a very warm welcome with a free upgrade! Nicely and warmly decorated sitting room and manager Kerry even put on a fire 🔥 for us once we’ve checked in! (We had our whiskys by the fire after dinner!) the pillows are not too soft and not too hard either and massive bath towels were nicely placed on bed with a romantic setting to room 2’s view to the loch in the morning but if you like to sleep in then the round about’s cars occasionally might bother you in the later morning, really quiet at night though. Massive TV on wall and lovely antique lamp and mirror on make up table plus cute and stylish hanging set instead of a wardrobe - stylish and modern! Love how the antique coffee table could flip up even! The entire hotel on ground floor is like a gallery displaying local artists’ work and they’re all up for sale!! So stylish and pretty and they’re getting a new bar in coming late January! Love the stain glass windows and doors too! We are super 🍀 lucky and photos cannot express how lovely the food was cooked by the humble and talented David H with help of Chris and Deniel waited us at the table, it was an absolute divine to dine at The Silly Goose 🪿 which David and his wife had named their restaurant setting it romantic already! The Yorkshire pudding was the BEST I’ve ever had even better than eating it at York and of course it was done by a Yorkshire man who isn’t afraid to share his recipe with us! The humble looking chocolate brownie was done by almond flour which isn’t too sweet and carefully decorated by nicely made small sheets of thinly sliced almond sugar pieces. They’ve got Pol Roger champagne 🍾 and a good few red wine on this list

My husband and I went for dinner at the Silly Goose, which is located inside the Lime Tree . We booked this dinner after my in-laws had been and raved about it. A very simple menu offering delectable options for meat eaters or vegetarian * not sure on vegan* We had French onion soup and ham for starters, mains was the ribeye and duck, and dessert was creme brulee and chocolate frangipane with salted caramel ice cream. Each dish was presented beautifully. A very small restaurant with no more than 20 seats, I believe, with an open kitchen, you can see the chef work their magic. The waitresses were very welcoming and very friendly. Highly recommend trying this restaurant out. Makes a big difference to have lovely food up here in the Highlands. We will return

We visited the restaurant for dinner. Food was very good and service outstanding. Extremely friendly, efficient and warm. We had a very good time.

Had the kimchi meal as mains. So good. And their steak was amazing too. However, the French onion soup was horrible.

Had a lovely two night stay here after completing the West Highland Way with our dog. The place has been recently renovated and was beautiful. Our room was soo lovely, super big bathroom and we slept like logs in the really comfy bed! The staff were super friendly. Breakfasts were delicious and we had dinner on our last night and the food was totally fabulous!! A great way to celebrate our WHW walk! Also it is super dog friendly. Tilly had the best time. Biscuits on arrival and was able to be with us in the dining room and got lots of doggie attention from the friendly lovely staff! Thanks everyone at the Lime Tree and Silly Goose Restaurant. Highly recommend a stay at this fabbie place if you are in Fort William.

Friendly staff and delicious food in a lovely atmosphere. Maybe a bit pricier than other restaurants in the area but worth it! We ordered cranachan for desert, beware it is very boozy!

Absolutely superb food, from breakfast as hotel residents to an amazing dinner and special requests were accommodated without question…..even if you are not staying at the hotel you must eat there!

We didn’t try the restaurant but we stayed at the hotel and were very satisfied. A nice room and easy walking distance to the main part of Fort William.

Had 1 night here and it was excellent. Food was amazing and the room was very nice too.

Great staff and perfectocation.

Quaint upper end small restaurant with a view of the loch Linnhe. Started with a goat cheese beet appetizer amply portioned with an excellent presentation. Main courses of pork with chorizo on a bed of puréed peas and mildly piquant tomato based sauce. Again the presentation was wonderful. Second entree of braised beef cheeks with a nice brown sauce perfectly smooth and tasty. Sides of potatoes dauphinois and carrots and broccoli. Wonderful presentation. Desserts of fresh berry crumb and a coffee liqueur parfait that was outstanding. Prices reflect quality. Service was efficient and accurate to orders. Pleasant mannered and well versed on the menu as well as the bar.

The restaurant changed the name to the silly goose. The decoration is kept simple with wooden tables and some art on the wwlls you can buy. It has an open kitchen. The menu is not too big what I like. The dishes were nicely decorated and not too big portions. The slow cooked beef was really tender and delicious. In my starter the goat cheese matched nicely with the vinegar and the raw beetroot.

Stayed here two nights and it was a good two nights. The room was large as well as the bathroom. The shower had a rain shower head and it was exceptionally good with plenty of water pressure. A large bed along with a day bed provided plenty of space. The meals were very good. We ate both breakfast meals here and nothing was scrimped. They were properly prepared and very tasty. The one dinner was excellent. My wife had the beef meal and was quite satisfied with the quality of her meal. I had the pork dinner and it was perfect. There was a large wine list and several wines are sold by the glass which is good since two of us do want a bottle. This is a good place to stay and it’s at the edge of the business area which allows for a more quiet night

Nice and big room and good sized bathroom. Everything was a little older but still mostly comfortable. The bed could have been better and the breakfast was not as good as some of the BnBs in Scotland but overall a good stay.

If I had to judge by food alone, I would give this place a 5. But the service fell down as the meal progressed. There was a considerable wait for our mains to be cleared as well as another considerable wait for the bill. The menu is limited but both our fish dishes were superb. I would give this place another chance if ever in Ft William again.

Very good food, though I think it's a bit pricey.

Pretty poor experience. We was here 5 years ago and it was fabulous. That was why we wanted to relive the experience. Unfortunately we got very disappointed. We was 6 people visiting, so we got around the menu. The food is still good. Good dishes. But the service and especially the overview is seriously lacking. We could sit for 5-10 minutes with out a waiter in sight, and therefore no option to get more drinks. To begin with they also forgot to serve us bread, and when they finally served the bread, they forgot the butter… They was not fast at serving the food, and after a long day of hiking we was pretty hungry and asked for another basket of bread. First the waiter said sure, but he came back with the empty basket saying that they was “almost out of bread” 😳 Next time we go to Fort William, I think we will pass this restaurant 😞

Restaurant: leider kann ich die guten Kritiken nicht bestätigen. Dünne Papierservietten, Ente (in der Pfanne gebraten) und Gemüse nicht heiß, nur die Kartoffeln. Dessert: Rhabarber mit Crumble, hier war crumble (wie kellogsmüsli-) kalt und hat auch so geschmeckt. Rhabarber und das Cocoseis lecker. Schade. Ich war voller Vorfreude!

We had a nice stay, staff was lovely and very helpful. We went by motorbike and our clothes were soaked from the rain, they offered us to have a nice warm bath and hang our wet gear in their drying closet, which was greatly appreciated! Breakfast was great and the hotel is located next to the street with restaurants and shops. The room was spacious and had a lovely interior A big downside for us was the mold in the bathroom, it was on the ceiling, at te edges of the bath and the faucets and even on the bottles with soap, shampoo and conditioner they kindly provided.

We had a very enjoyable meal here in a lovely setting. We were fascinated by the map room of Shackleton's exploration of Antarctica.

Such a cute boutique restaurant with the lovely touch of having art gallery in the building too. Service was faultless, on point but not over the top. The food was delicious and of high standard. The chocolate dessert was out of this world. Another positive they could make Aperol Spritz and we couldn’t find this anywhere on west coast! Lovely surprise. We have travelled the west coast of Scotland twice now and this was one of our favourite restaurants.

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious meal at the Lime Tree and were well looked after by the very friendly staff. We also enjoyed the in house art gallery and exhibition of Shackleton’s voyage, and the cosy fire in the sittingroom. A delightful evening.

One of the better restaurants in Fort William, but an element of hit and miss with it. Highlight of the meal was the Sea Trout - interesting and innovative sauce and vegetables, fish well cooked. Beef cheek main course was also good. Cullen skink starter had plenty of flavour, goat’s cheese starter was possibly a little heavy on the goat’s cheese and the various accompaniments included honeycomb, which felt out of place. Cheese board for dessert was very disappointing. Other than a bit of Isle of Mull, nothing was local (although I chose not to have the blue, not sure if that was local), but there was a lack of real variety, texture and flavour across the choices. Surroundings were pleasant, although the view across the loch is ruined by the large pizza oven in the garden. Although the restaurant was busy, in early May, it all felt very off-season, lacking atmosphere. I felt value for money was merited for the location in such a tourist area, but not for the overall food quality.

Entered with high expectations from the reviews and left disappointed. Though the service and presentation of the dishes were to a good standard, there were several parts of the meal that let it down.

We came to the Lime Tree for a meal out on our Honeymoon. This place did not disappoint! We had the most amazing food and had great service. A really good find!

Disfrutamos cada bocado de los haggis recién horneados y los panes de masa fermentada, la olla de conejo con chutney de mango, la carne de venado y los postres de zarza y otoño. No podríamos haber tenido una mejor comida, especialmente en el día de San Valentín. Gracias.

Disfrutamos mucho la comida en el Lime Tree. Comenzamos con un queso de cabra entretenido bouche. Luego compartimos un plato de espárragos a la parrilla con huevo de pato, panceta de cerdo y aceite de trufa. Luego tuve el pastel de champiñones con brie y arándanos, que se sirvió con puré de camote, zanahorias cocidas y papas asadas. Mi marido tenía la carne de venado con chirivías y morcilla. Compartimos un postre de pastel de especias de melaza de jengibre con crema coagulada y un flan Drambuie. Todo estaba delicioso y muy bien presentado.

Nos quedamos allí un par de noches como un grupo de 4 adultos, 1 habitación doble y 1 con 2 camas individuales, desafortunadamente no había que colgar ropa ni cajones, había una puerta debajo de las escaleras frente a las habitaciones con algunas perchas para el uso de y un juego de cajones, pero hubiera preferido en la habitación, cuarto de baño bien, pero un gran pedazo de vidrio instalado que realmente debería estar allí para golpear tu pie. Limpio y ordenado, sin embargo, arriba de la cocina / sala de estar cumple los requisitos de la caja, pero el refrigerador necesitaba enderezarse como un problema para cerrar la puerta. Todo lo anterior fue solo puntos menores y no me disuadió de recomendarlo a mis amigos, ¡la ubicación fue excelente!

Das Hotel/Restaurant ist sehr zentral und dennoch von der Umgebung her ruhig. Wir hatten ein Zimmer mit zwei Einzelbetten, was sehr schön eingerichtet war. Das Badezimmer war groß genug, die Betten waren auch ok. Einen Stern Abzug gab es von mir, da die Zimmer sehr hellhörig sind und es durch den Holzboden im Flur beim Laufen sehr laut wurde. Zudem gab es beim Frühstück keinen Aufschnitt außer Marmelade. Man konnte sich morgens aus einer Karte ein leckeres warmes Gericht aussuchen (zB. Porridge) und zusätzlich gab es ein kleines Minibuffet mit einer Sorte Brot, Marmelade, cerealien und Obstsalat. Eine Sorte Käse wäre schön gewesen.

We dined here on Spetember 4, 2019. We has starters, mains and dessert. The service is good. The food is well presented, plentiful and delicious. There were vegetarian options for my wife. This was our fourth annual visit here and we have always given 5 stars, but this time, there was just something a bit off. Nothing bad but just not excellent as before. There were a couple of niggles that cuased a 4 star rating. We had a 7:30 seating, but the rabbit dish had run out of one of its components, but they were still selling the dish with a substtute item. I ordered something else. Secondly we order the most expensive bottle of champagne that had on the menu. We were told that they were out of the full bottles but had half bottles. I asked if I could have two half bottles for the price of a full bottle and was bluntly told no. That irked me a bit. All in all this is our favorite restaurant in Fort William. We have chlaked this up to an off night. We will dine here agian on our next trip to Fort William.

Nous avons eu une très bonne impression en rentrant dans ce restaurant qui paraissait d'un très bon niveau avec un passe visible depuis la salle, une ambiance feutrée, un accueil un peu "élégant" de la part des serveurs, mais nous avons été déçus par la cuisine qui n'est pas selon nous à la hauteur à la promesse implicite qu'on a en rentrant. La présentation était plutôt raffinée mais au final les goûts n'étaient pas terribles et l'addition plutôt élevée en regard de la qualité.

This restaurant has great food. Excellent flavour, presentation. Very well done.Some of the waitstaff are nothing short of sullen and give you the impression waiting your table is a chore. However hotel reception staff were warm, welcoming and accommodating of a late booking. So a mixed bag on service.The reason for a 3 over 4 star is the chef was constantly coughing. Covering his mouth with his hand at least, but then using the same hand to pick up the gravey boats. No washing of hand between. Furthermore, wiping his nose with the back of his hand, then without washing the hand plating up dishes. An open kitchen provides full visibility of these things. To my mind this is an absolute breach of hygiene. When I raised this with the (sullen) waitress I was 'reliably' informed he had a tickle in his throat a nothing contagious. A 'tickle' which lasted over 2 hours. Really?The chef is clearly good and more than competent, perhaps outstanding. But shouldn't rock up to work when clearly sick and his employer should have more sense than to contaminate a room full of international visitors!Disappointing as it could have easily been a wonderful experience. Shame.So we left expecting to get sick in the next week.

The dinner we had there was OK but we wouldn't return. There is at least one better option in Fort WilliamThe open-view kitchen seemed unable to produce more than 4 plates for serving at a time. The quality of the food was reasonable but not appetising. The kitchen seems to use a lot of salt in the dishes. None of the desserts took our fancy. The restaurant was reasonably busy. but it wasn't for us. Their idea of 'paying on the way out' was a bit strange, too.The restaurant is a bit of an enigma.
