This is the 3rd time we have been to Bury market. But the first time we have been to this tea room it is well worth a visit. friendly staff, clean, the food was great to. I do not know why we did not go to this cafe before because it is near the bus/tram station. We will go again

Visited today with my mum and had a lovely afternoon tea. The lady that served us was really accommodating and the food was delicious. The ice cream sundaes and sandwiches sounded amazing so I will definitely be returning to try more of the menu.

The first time I came here a gentleman who worked there made us a full English breakfast-it was hands down the best breakfast in Bury. Another time I went in with a friend for milkshakes - again delicious and simply amazing. So I went back a few times for lunch. I once bought a jacket potato and tuna - the potato wasn't great but edible. Another time I had a chicken wrap-was quite nice. Another time I had a sandwich but didn't like the bread - I didn't complain but I did leave it. That time I had gone in with my 7 year old nephew and it took so long for his scrambled eggs on toast to come-his food came last-it was ok he had some of my mum's food to keep him going (not so good for my mum!). The last time I went in I ordered a chicken club sandwich. The ladies were lovely and all was fine until I got my food. I could see the wet lettuce was all shriveled in what I assumed was mayo making the bread overly moist but I was so hungry I thought I'll give it a go. I took a bite but I had to spit it out as it tasted vile. I think it was the chicken but I'm not sure. I asked who I was with to smell it for me, and my Mum said don't eat it as it smells off. It indeed did smell. I politely let the waitress know and she took my food away. After 5 ish mins she came back and gave me money for the meal with a simple - here's your money back for your food and off she went. I found her quite rude and abrupt and the manager / owner did not come over. My mum did say she heard her say that she's never had a complaint about her food so I guess I was treated that way because she felt that I was wrong. Fair enough, I won't come back but I would have if the situation had been dealt with differently. I would never complain about food unless it was necessary. If an owner / manager of a food establishment couldn't see that the food should no way have been served due to the smell and even the look of it then it's best that I stay way clear-you would hope people would care for the health of their customers but...

Visited with my husband and 20month old toddler. Ordered our food to be told there would be a 15-20min wait as everybody had ordered at the same time. This was fine so I sat down with our coffees. We had finished our coffees way before our food arrived 35mins later. Pretty disappointing considering it was only a veggie breakfast, blt and child's toast, scrambled egg and sausage. The food arrived and was just about edible. I didn't expect anything wonderful for the price but still, it was dire. Dry eggs, my sandwich was soggy and my husband's breakfast looked dry and a bit on the small side. The table behind us complained about their breakfast so it wasn't just us being picky. The lady actually referred to her food as s*** and was not happy at all, considering how long we all waited to get our food. We will not be returning. Shame as the coffee was actually quite nice.

What a lovely experience! Already looking forward to next time. I shared afternoon tea for two with a friend yesterday, at Lilly King's, and it was totally delicious - very generous portions, the tasty sandwiches were lovely and fresh, the cakes were gorgeous and those scones were to die for! All the staff were very attentive and made us very welcome and looked after us very well throughout. 🌺Congratulations and Thank you, Amanda and Team🌺

I visited at lunchtime and ordered a beef salad sandwich on brown bread. For £3.75 I was expecting a brown barm or sub but it was two pieces of brown. Disappointed!

Lilly Kings is lovely. I've visited a few times and have never been disappointed. There's always a warm welcome from the team and they are always very accommodating. I've sat in as well as ordered to takeaway and the food has been very consistent on both counts. Last time I was in there were a table of ladies behind me, we got chatting and they were telling me that they visit every couple of weeks from a town around 15 miles away and absolutely love the place. The cakes are home made too and everything's so fresh. A perfect place to stop for a coffee, cake or something even more substantial if you're out and about shopping in Bury.

I have been to Lilly Kings several times and the food has always been delicious....and the hot food is always piping hot. I was meeting my friend in Bury - it is my home town though now I live in Cheadle, Cheshire and my friend travelled from Wales. So I booked the afternoon tea for three of us - hubby joined us - via the internet and Amanda, the owner, and I had a few pleasant e-mails to and fro. She had reserved us a table near the window as requested (I have mobility problems, and we weren't seated long before a waitress came over and took our order. The afternoon tea (which you can order for lunch, as we did) soon arrived and it was really nice....got to say were weren't struck on the mini chocolate cupcakes as they were a bit dry, but everything else was lovely and fresh, especially the sandwiches and the carrot cake....I greedily ate my friend's piece too as she was full after the sandwiches and two mini scones with preserve and clotted cream. Everything is spotlessly clean and the cafe is always busy, which is a good sign. I noticed that I had met the two ladies sitting at the adjacent table before, and Lily's seems to have a regular clientele - again a sign of quality. There is only one small niggle - and that is if you don't drink tea and want a cold drink or coffee, the waiting staff will try to charge you extra: however, Amanda the owner cancelled the charge for my diet Coke and my husband's coffee. We go out for afternoon tea several times a year and the only other place I have been charged an additional amount for a replacement cold drink is a local garden ecntre......everywhere else the tea is substituted for a coffee for my husband and a diet cold drink for me without any comment or fuss. One last thing - if you like seafood then you must try their prawn salad - it is a picture on a plte and has the most delicious prawns I have ever tasted.

After a visit to the doctors we decided to go for a coffee and on passing these tea rooms thought we would have a change and give them a go. We were very pleasantly surprised at the quality and range of food on offer. We had lovely bacon sandwiches and delicious coffee, altogether a very pleasant experience.

Too noisy! Met a friend for a quick lunch and coffee but it was so loud we were shouting at each other to chat! Plea to the owner, please keep the music down - it's a cafe not a nightclub! The hot pot was disappointing - meat seemed cheap. If you are going to use mince and charge around a fiver per portion, use a decent butcher!

I went in with my young grandson and we had about 25 minutes before our bus left. There were 4 staff visible in the shop but only one was serving. The 2 persons in the queue in front of me were dithering somewhat and paid by card. It really needed one of the other staff to help. As it was over 10 minutes before I was served I just had a pot of tea and my grandson had a scone. It was quite a varied menu although I thought a little pricey for Bury.

My wife and I visited recently and really enjoyed our experience. I've noticed some negative comments for this cafe and I can only say that either these people are mistakenly writing about the wrong cafe or are just being malicious for the sake of it. If you want to avoid the high street brand cafes and enjoy somewhere with some individuality and genuine atmosphere than you should head to Lilley's. Our coffees tasted better than those at Costa etc and the food was tasty, freshly made and really good value. In addition, the young waitress who served us - Grace? - could not have been more helpful and friendly. She was knowledgeable about different products and their contents and even laughed when I asked her to 'bring me the finest wines known to humanity'. Well it made me laugh!

I called in today for a coffee which is the best I've had for a long time I decided to have an omelette for breakfast it's the best I've had for a while. This is definitely my new go to place for breakfast or lunch. I love the fact that the menu caters for people who are following diets with the skinny burger options would highly recommend it to anyone

I came here for lunch with my 2 yr old daughter and my mother. First impressions were great nice and bright with lots of space. i ordered a plain cheese sandwich for my daughter and 2 tuna paninis for myself and my mum. when we sat down after ordering the table behind us was complaining that they had been waiting some time for food and were ignored whilst other customers were served. after waiting about 20 mins again i add for 3 sandwiches, i asked how much longer it may be as my daughter was becoming very agitated and hungry it took them a further 20 mins to bring out my daughters cheese sandwich and a further 5 to bring out the 2 remaining sandwiches. i will also add that the table to the side of us had ordered a hot meal after us and received theres before we did. i wish i would have settled for greggs would have been a lot cheaper and certainly a lot faster, i counted 5 staff member working and they could make 3 sandwiches in less than 45 mins i received no apology really not good.

I went with my girlfriend, we both had coffee which was great and v stylishly served with a panini and a toastie. They offer a range of gluten free options and some very good sweet bits too. It was good to see a traditional vanilla slice alongside more contemporary options. I particularly liked the spacious feel to the cafe and the decor which is tasteful and clearly been thought through. Well worth a visit and v different from the corporate feel of standard coffee shops. The staff were v friendly and hygiene of the highest level.

Took my 2 boys age 5 and 3 for a milkshake and cake break (which was really a mummy coffee break!). Had been before and been really impressed and was equally happy with this visit. Staff can't do enough for you, especially when you have kids. They chatted with my 5 year old about school and lent him pencils for drawing, didn't bat an eye at my 3 year old getting more cake on the floor than in his mouth. The cakes are to die for and the milkshakes went down a storm!! The hardest part of my visit was picking which cake to have! Will definitely be going back, a lovely way to break up shopping with little people!

First impressions were that it is a lovely place spacious and clean. The food was nice but I think charging over a pound for a piece of toast for a baby is a bit much. Little things count in whether or not I would return and sadly due to this I would not return

Today is my first visit to this Tea Room but will not be my last. I was on my way home when I called for a coffee. The restaurant was "spotless" and well maintained. The staff are a credit to the company as they were all very pleasant, helpful and all had smiles on their faces. The coffee was excellent and I had to wait for it, which I prefer. I usually visit Bury at least every fortnight and next time I shall call for a Breakfast, which looked good value for money. ALL the snacks, meals and confectionaries looked very fresh and appetising. I will recommend this establishment to friends when they visit Bury.

We loved the food, service and the interior - spacious, bright and light yet comfortable and with some character. For our lunch we chose the sandwiches - both the fresh and the toasted options; and for a sweet treat after we enjoyed a pot of a really good Earl Grey, and both scones with jam cream and vanilla slice (in NZ we call them custard slices). The cafe is ideally located between the bus and train stations and Bury market, and has food clean toilet facilities. They have an attractive website so you can browse that to see what is on offer.

Have been coming here for years. No offence at all to the other chefs but they have a new young team and the food was unreal! Best food I’ve had there and maybe the best burger I’ve ever eaten. Steak and bacon and all three of us who had it were absolutely wowed. Perfectly cooked and excellent in terms of quality and quantity of meat. My Dad and my Uncle love coming here and we will be back.
