Lifeboat Fish & Chips in East Riding of Yorkshire

Cold day called in on impulse for lunch. Cafe very cold, kept my coat on, looked pretty basic, plastic table cloths etc. Not told had to order at the counter, perhaps make that clear on the menu? Ordered large cod and chips and small fish special. Excellent value, served hot freshly cooked, lovely chunky fish, the fish special was especially good value at £7ish, included drink peas or curry and bread and butter. Asked for strong coffee which was served. The peas were the brightest green I've ever seen! Slightly off putting but tasted ok. Had some good family offers on the special board too. Have other choices, burgers, pies, jackets etc. desserts. Cafe could do with a spruce up though,d but on't let it put you off. Will be returning.

Simply put, the best take away food in town. Fish and Chips are excellent. Saying that, the batter sometimes isn't as crunchy, probably from rushing - I don't know, but the taste is always the same. I have been there several times and I was never disappointed. We've been a few times there with my family as we all like it there, and have tried several other things. All are really nice, particularly the kebab. It's better than some kebab places I have had from.

Great place to sit and eat, the place is clean and tidy, staff are friendly and polite. Fish is cooked to order so fresh out of the fryer when you receive it.

Love this place. The food is always amazing and reasonably priced and the staff are so friendly and we go so often they say hi to us in the street now.

Visited on Wednesday when the rain finally stopped and we ventured out of the caravan. Really nice fish and chips and reasonably priced. Friend, efficient service.

Visited on a Sunday after a trip to Spurn and this was the closest fish and chip shop that was open with sit-in and consistent reviews. Great deal on fish special- £7.99 for fish, chips, peas, tea or coffee and buttered bread. Fish cooked to order, perfectly fresh fish and very tasty. Absolutely nothing to complain about.

Absolutely lovely fish and chips. Delivered to caravan park. Massive portions for a very reasonable price. Can’t fault it, been 3 times now this fortnight on holiday. Used to go to The Golden haddock, but this beats it hands down!!!

This is a must go to eat place very clean lovely food got seated quickly lovely customer service. Very helpful staff if I'm going to say 1 thing bad just to be picky would be go to bar to order food and soft drinks but then had to queue up at a different place to order a cup of tea be good if able to order altogether only downside

This is an amazing place to go for fish and chips with your family/friends or even alone. This fish shop is great value for the money you spend, there are lovely staff, clean toilets and wheelchair access on the eastern side of the building. Overall, I would give it a 10/10, would recommend and will definitely be coming back in the near future.

4 of us ordered and I felt like I had been ripped off. The fish was tiny overcooked and tasteless. The seafood platter tasted tasted like fish imitation fish rubber. There was 2 hairs in the fish plater also. If you enjoy fish and chips please avoid this place.

Lifeboat had been recommended to us and it did not fail to impress. We could see the food being freshly cooked and the staff were so friendly. Delicious.

Tables and floor were filthy, not been cleaned for a ling time and they have inly been open an hour!!! , looks scruffy and the staff were very unfriendly and rude!

We visited for lunch inside the restaurant to sit down. We ordered our meal, paid for it and found a table. The table cloth was ripped, as we're all of them. They looked dirty and felt tacky to touch. The windows and floors were dirty. We had to get our own cutlery, sauces and vinegar, etc., The cutlery was dirty also. The lady that took our payment came out and plonked two cans if diet coke in front of us with no glass or receptacle to put it into. Drink out of the can we did, had no choice. The meal arrived and, in fairness it was very nice. The ladies toilet had no light and was pitch black. The sink was not clean and the toilet smelled. The overall verdict is the food was good but the place was filthy. We will not be visiting again.

Visited this establishment today and was not impressed at all. The chips were undercooked, the fish wasn't fresh and left a horrible after taste. Won't be visiting again

Very very slow system when ordering food very draconian The oddest system Iv ever come across and they must loose money doing it this way .. if I ever go to lifeboat again il be sure to ring a week in advance to place my order .. staff rude as well plus fish was tasteless and chips bland .. will not be returning.. the chippy around the corner is better and you don’t have to wait half hour for a chip butty !!

Took our grandson here for lunch, to start with it was hard getting the waitress to understand our order. Our food took so long to come we nearly walked out. The two cheese and tomato toasties came with nothing else, for example a side salad etc, they were pale, tasteless and over priced for what you got. My grandsons fish dinner was nice but the wait etc had spoilt it for us. We would never go here again or recommend it.

We were staying close to Withernsea decided to have a look around the Town and have some lunch, we chose the lifeboat and we were not disappointed with the food, service was a little confused, as the orders weren't as requested, but that didn't change our thoughts on the matter food, which was really good.

Cannot recommend here enough. Food is absolutely excellent and always piping hot. The fish is delicious, chips are lovely. My personal favourite is their cheesy chips and battered sausage!! Staff always so welcoming and accommodating. So good! Will definitely be back!

We have been using this chip shop for the last 20 months when we visit our holiday home. We make a telephone order and every thing is cooked fresh great fish and chicken never had a bad meal yet.

We use this place each time we visit Withernsea. The fish is cooked to order and is top notch along with the chips,peas etc. Great service at good prices.

Decided to visit this chippy has it was the closest to withernsea sands were we was staying for a weekend. Bought two kids fish and chips and ordered cod and chips for myself, placed order for cod which was cooked to order. Wasn't waiting long which didn't seem right for a fish cooked to order. Anyway whilst waiting, saw the lady who served us eating rashers of bacon which was fine but never saw her wash hands after serving customers. Fish ready now went back to caravan to eat, fish looked fine but didn't taste really nice left half something funny about it. Later that night boy wake up with stomach ache and that night will never forget was up all night vomiting and diarrhoea. Definitely was cod because that's all I could taste and kids were fine because they had haddock. So eat here at your own risk.

Fish, chips and mushy peas, with a mug of coffee... for less that a fiver! Delicious fish, and lovely crispy chips. No complaints here!

After visiting a number of fish shop in the Withernsea area I've found the Lifeboat Fish & Chip to be the best and cheapest in the area. The chip are done to perfection and the fish is tasty. They do a fish and chip special with pea or curry for 2 for around £7.

This was the first time we have been to this chip shop and it definatley won't be the last, we had fish and chips each and we didn't finish them off as there was more than enough left over for our tea later on, very generous portions and the mushy peas were very nice,

I have never reviewed an eatery before, but I absolutely love the fish and chips from here, I have had them at least once a week, for the two years I've been living here, the fish is humongous and the chips are always gorgeous.

I visited the Lifeboat fish shop recently and was really surprised how cheap the fish and chips was compared to all the other chippies in the area.They have loads of meal deals that the others don't so if you're on a budget then you need to be eating here.Well worth a visit.

On holiday in Withernsea. I decided to go to the life boat fish & chips based upon the good reviews, and I was not disappointed. The fish was cooked fresh and was perfect, as was the chips. Large haddock and chips, mushy peas twice. All for just over £11. Fantastic value for money. In London I'd pay around £16 quid for something not half as good. Anyone coming to this area for holiday are highly recommended to visit this nice little chippie.

Visited here a few times now when visiting the area always decent food , not the best ever fish and chips ever but decent , WELL WORTH A VISIT .

Can't recommend this place enough . Fish 🐟 & scampi 🍤 cooked to perfection . Made to order too so you do wait a while but it's worth it .

One of the best fish and chip shops I have been to in a long time. Had a lovely large haddock, chips and mushy peas, great tasty fish, not to heavy batter, nice chips and lovely mushy peas. Great service and great value, well recommended.

We had all day breakfasts, kids meals and fish and chips all were fine . the staff are a;ll excellent and very helpful . My wife gets a larger salad as she is allergic to chips . My grand daughter does not like her sausages cut in half. Anything reasonable you as the staff to do is done . All variations are carried out just as you asked

Super fish and chips, decent sized portions and quickly served to the table. Little bit basic for some tastes but the quality of the food shines out.

Arrived at around 3pm to quite a busy little place. We sat down at a table slarted with ketchup and curry sauce stains, full of plates and empty cans of pop. After around 10 minutes a lad came and shifted them, but never bothered to give the table a wipe. We then sat and waited 35 minutes for 4 fish and chips. There were around 7 or 8 staff behind the fryers. Not one of them knew what was going on. Nobody seemed to be in charge of anything. At one point, one of the staff said "alright alright FU*?ING NORA!! I ONLY ASKED IF THERE WAS ANY FISH READY!!!!"

Absolutely first class fish and chips and not too expensive. Had takeaway on Sat night and were completely filled up.

Lovely staff, well cooked food and very reasonable price.We had large haddock, chips and peas. It was large with just the right amount of batter.Plus chicken,chips and peas with a tea and coffee for less than £14.

Absolutely gorgeous food. He put the fish in fresh. Nice batter and lovely chips. Nice touch there is a car park too. Would definitely recommend.

If Carling made fish and chips these would probably be the best in the world. Lovely thin crispy batter, well cooked chips and proper mushy peas (no tinned stuff). So good we went twice on a four night stay in Withernsea!

Sit in or eat out looking over the sea, this little fish and chip place is a must if you want fresh and they don't skimp on size

Great fish and chips! Crispy light batter, no stodginess and fresh crunchy chips. Very reasonable prices and a clean traditional cafe to eat in! Great staff, and well used by locals and visitors alike. Great job!

Just been here for scampi and chips for the first time. Wow, they were fabulous-simply the best I have had in a very long time. Great staff too and the guy with the baseball hat has a good sense of humour. Thanks to all.

Freshly cooked food... made to order. Great value too.. not just that is the only chippy that opens till late in the winter in Withernsea. If you are looking for value and quality you'd be hard pressed to find better.

V.good fish and you get alot of chips.fish cooked fresh so is white and succulent,only slight criticism is a tad greasy but the fish was a good size and v.good value so def recommend.and toptastic people who own it,work in it etc.Ed

I use this fish shop a lot,the only thing i find is that you have to wait a while because there cook your order when you enter the fish shop, but are always good,hope to see you all soon

only used the take away side, not been in resaurant. as usual the fish and chips are as good as the best for many a mile, and better than most of the rest. well worth a visit.

We got sausage and chips. It was tasty enough - the sausage may have been there a little while (not sure) but it was tasty and the chips were nice and crisp. The curry sauce wasn't great, a bit too powdered packet tasting to me. The price was much better than our local fish & chip shops so on balance this was good value.

Excellent Fish and chips. Arguably the best fish and chip shop/cafe in Withernsea. I have tried both the cafe and the take out Menu and would say I am more than happy with both. Large portions and well cooked, friendly staff and it is very child friendly.

If you want good old fish and chips this is the place to go. We went for dinner. The chips were nice and fresh. The service was quick and friendly. Nothing fancy you just get what you pay for. Which is good for me.

Suppose you get what you pay for, we were tryiing to find somewhere to eat on a friday tea time, around7 o,clock....we live locally and thlught we would try here.... Looked ok, then we say down to order, chairs and tabkes all a little grubby really, place mats also...we ordered the fish chips, peas bread n butter and tea? When we only ,h paid 9.50 thought mmmmm. Anyway it arrived, the peas were amazing and ate them all, the fish batter was very pale, and just peeled off the fish? Which i doubted was haddock? The batter did not adhere to the fish at alll, also when i lifted the fish up to get the batter off, it was swimming in oil....the bread was thick with cheap margarine...all in all not good, tea was fine and also the peas, no one asked is everything was ok....will not be returning

The lady and gentleman behind the friers spoke as soon as we walked in. Asked if we needed anything special frying while we waited to be served. The chips we cooked fresh as was our fish. The lady server could not be more helpful if she tried. Offered for us to salt our chips before she put on peas then offer for us to season our fish before it was wrapped. The food was lovely and the staff even more so

My wife and I have been here on numerous occasions whilst staying at Sand Le mere Caravan park. The fish and chips have always been of the highest quality and price wise it is spot on.We come from Leeds West Yorkshire and for the size of their standard fish you would have to go somewhere similar to the Wetherby Whaler!!

Huge portion sizes and quick service. Excellent food and friendly staff. A little small and felt crammed in, as you could clearly hear the conversations of those around you. However the food was very well priced and delicious. Would definitely recommend.

Was a large Que when waiting to be served. When back at the Caravan found the chips to be under cooked and the fish greasy.

we had a family meal. 2 adults 2 children. the fish was cooked fresh. and the childrens portions were really generous. and it was nt expensive to sit in was only £17.50. an the adults got bread an butter an a hot drink and the children had a drink too all included in the price cant beat it :-D

Excellent service lovely blonde haired lady served me used to work in the jewellery trade gave me advise on my rings. Lovely fish and chips good portion of chips and nice big cod. Served quickly and hot. Avoid school lunch times or you have a long wait. Nice bit of banter with the guys.

Freshly cooked fish which you have a little wait for but well worth it for piping hot fish. The fish is beautiful and the chips are plenty. I always find the staff very friendly, which is always nice. I would not say I was a regular in that I do not go every week but come Christmas I was given a Christmas card and a box of chocolates, which was a nice surprise. I only buy take-away and I know for take-away they are rated by many other locals to be the best fish and chip shop in Withernsea.You want the best fish and chips in Withernsea? Go to lifeboat.

As the title suggests the Quality and Quantity of food you get is amazing ! Customer service is straight forward too ! Looking forward to our next visit :-)

Value and quality - all you can say about the lifeboat. Their fish fritters are simply gorgeous and they know how to soak their mushy peas. Would eat here more often but it cannot be good for you ;) or can it?

Used this cafe fish shop,regular and you won't find better food and service anywhere nothing to much trouble my little one calls it smiley faces and not just because he loves them Because the staff are always smiling visit and enjoy wether you eat in or out

The fish & chips looked good but when i started to eat the fish the batter was not cooked inside it tasted lousy the chips passed but the mushy peas were horrible very watery and no taste the only good thing was the available parking its a shame because with a little thought it could be a gold mine

Friendly staff really nice fish and chips and fish fritter was nice as pure fish but wasn't fish cake that expected you must try hot hot chilli sauce very nice home made !

Try the Chicken and Stuffing kebabs and the Fish is also good too. Reasonable prices and can eat in too if you want!!

Went here for F&Chips and had to wait while they cooked them fresh so no complain there. The guy serving was a laugh a minute and kept us entertained till the food was ready. Nice fish that the batter was cooked properly on

We use this chippy every time we're in the area. Always lovely, fresh cooked to order food. There's always a queue, but as my mother says "they wouldn't be queuing if it wasn't good grub"!!

freshly cooked but you do have to wait which i would rather do to get it hotter always busy so make sure you have the time to wait

The fish is the best but the batter is very greesy,the service was very slow and the staff seem to be all over the place but it was the busiest weekend with it been easter holidays the staff was very friendly.

We called in the attached cafe in January and the place was very cold in fact to cold to enjoy the fish chips peas and tea we ordered.My advice is if your open put some heating on after all you charge more to eat in.

I think you will be hard placed to beat The Lifeboat for both value and quality. I have never yet had a bad lot of fish and chips and will keep on coming back :)

We found this place on holiday and tried it on a whim. Found it had really nice food, but the service was lovely. I didn't catch the name of the chap who served me, but he was cheeky and cheery, and the value for money was excellent.

I can only highly praise this fish and chip shop the quality of the food is excellent and great value go try it for yourself!

The guys at the life boat were good with the kids and served fish and chips as they should be, fresh and not overcooked.I would definitely recommend a visit.
