Lovely fish and chips..had a medium cod overhung the plate chips was lovely..Right on the seafront.. very enjoyable.

Fabulous little break for lunch, and delicious!

Great food, good portion sizes, and quick service.

First and last time. Threw it away. Just conning the tourists knowing theres another one coming . Any other chippy except this one.

I have been to this fish and chip shop every time I visit Hastings. Usually the food is great, hence why I return but this time its not as good for some reason. The batter was a bit soggy and the food wasn't as hot as it could be. The portion size was good but I was a bit disappointed with the quality. I will go back but hope next time it is better

I'll give you all a tip. Do not order for delivery. Chips all brown, overcooked and extremely greasy. Exactly the same for the large cod as well. Couldn't leave a review on Uber eats but had to throw it away and I never throw food away. Awful absolutely awful and I mean awful just to reiterate awful

The best fish and chips anywhere. My wife says it. When she was pregnant with our 2 children, she had a craving to eat the cod here. We drove from Crawley on a regular basis which is 1 hour or more each way to build our babies bodies and brains with fresh Hastings cod! It seems to have worked as both of them are very intelligent and our son has been complimented at school by his teachers on how good his memory is. (Fish is apparently very beneficial for the brain.)

Best fish and chips in all of hastings never let you down

Chips were Ok'ish if you're absolutely starving, a bit cardboardy in texture. But please stop watering down your vinegar, I plastered my chips in vinegar, and still could not taste or even smell any vinegar whatsoever. When it comes to chips, flavour is everything, and that includes the seasoning you apply.

My wife and I visited Hastings on last Saturday and decided to have fish and chips for lunch. We were both served an absolutely freshly fried cod and chips and enjoyed it. Anyone reading this should definitely visit if you go to Hastings 😊😊

Having lived in Hastings for many years, we returned for a visit and decided we had to have fish and chips at the life boat, knowing it was the best in town- NOT ANY MORE. The outside tables and chairs where we sat were dirty and sticky. The owners/staff were only interested in their phones. The portions were small and pale and the added long hair in the fish batter was just a step too far. Avoid disappointment don't bother eating here.

My family had fish and chip shops and the Life Boat is one of the best I have visited. The fish was fresh and the batter crispy. They do leave the skin on the fish but it is easily removed. Mushy peas were just the right consistency. I noticed local workers eating there. Highly recommended.

We just had a lunch here and the service was great. We asked the gentleman for a cod without batter for our 18 month old and it was of great quality. He was also very kind to let us buy some milk from him and warm it up for us. Definitely recommend that place for anyone with a little kids

Service is rushed without the customer care. Chips were plain as you didn't put salt and vinegar on them. You just wrapped them up and hurried us out of the shop. I understand about the covid. But I was the only customer in the shop.

Food served on cardboard with plastic knife and fork. Ketchup from sachets. Much better available.

Been here a few times in the past but wish I'd read recent reviews before spending 19 quid on 2 fish and chips that were disgusting. Frozen fish (I asked) that was mushy, tasteless black skin on it and not very crispy batter ....

Disappointing. The chips were good, but i'm pretty sure the 'cod' wasn't cod. Sod all for vegetarians.

Traditional English fish and chip shop, tucked away a little, sat outside and enjoyed being near the sea.

20/3/20 & 2/8/20 Times are difficult with Covid at the moment. I was recommended this chippy as the best in Hastings by a friend who said all the locals go there, including fishermen themselves. I went with him on one occasion by chance the day before restaurants were ordered to shut! He reminisced of taking his mum there a few months before, before she passed away at Christmas (we were there to sort the house sale). We sat and ate lunch in an empty restaurant for lunch and the fish and chips were extremely good. The owner was a bit downbeat as trade had dropped off markedly over the few weeks by the time we had arrived. He was not looking forward to closing the restaurant. That lunch was very good indeed. On another visit to sort the house we had fish and chips lunch again from there to take away. It was empty again, so sad. We waited for the meal to be freshly cooked and took the open bag over the road. We had the delicious meal in the bus shelter nearly opposite, whilst being 'serenaded' by the seagulls (apparently they are feeling the pinch too!). A few weeks later I went down with friends for a break as he restrictions were being gradually lifted. I persuaded them to get the food there and we would drive towards St Leonard's and eat on the beach. We arrived for a late lunch to find the owner still down in the dumps, with no queues or people eating outside or waiting. We made the order and waited for a while whilst he cooked it all, salt and special onion vinegar in and wrapped it all up for the takeaway in effect. We drove off, found the lifeguard hut, sat and opened the bags. Unfortunately and naturally any crispness was now soggy so my friends were not impressed. That is the problem, and to be expected. Moral of the story is keep the bag open and eat ASAP! If you like vinegar add it yourself! Another time we passed by to give them a second chance but we were in a hurry and it was empty, the owner saying it would be a ten minute wait at least. We could not gang around and went to The Codfather nearby which seemed busier and a quicker turnover. Their fat vats must have been at maximum heat longer I expect. We saw people enjoying their meal at The Lifeboat on the tables outside later in the day. Obverse it is a very good place. It needs more custom to keep those oil/fat vats very hot. People tend to gravitate to busy places obviously. This place is worth making busy!

This was my favourite place for freshly cooked, quality fish &. Chips - went last night and had the most awful meal, grey fish, supposedly Cod with thick Black skin left on, chips that looked re heated - what on earth has happened in only a few months!!! I ordered a large Cod and Chips as well as a medium - when we unwrapped them at the car the large Cod was two floppy medium fish - usually cooked to order, these were already cooked in the cabinets so goodness knows for how long. The Fish truly was awful, soft soggy batter and really grey fish - grand total of £19 !!! I won’t be going back, how sad and disappointing

Over £21 for cod and large chips and 2 children's savoury and chips. The kids portions were tiny and the large portion of chips was more like a kids portion. Average food throughout. Use to be a great chippy, alas no more instant profit over everything else.

I've been there twice recently first solely for a portion of chips. But today I had fish and chips and the wife had sausage in batter and chips. And it was lovely. Great chips, great fish, wife loved her sausage in batter and chips too! They take cash, card and apple pay.

Great little place, has been open a long time and the food is fresh and tasty, its right on the sea front.

We were recommended to come here for lunch by the hotel owner, and it was a great move. An unassuming place, the fish and chips were freshly fried. The large portion was generous and more than enough for 2 adults. Everything we ordered - fish and chips, chicken nuggets - was freshly done and piping hot. Service was pleasant, the man who took our order served us with a smile. Just what we needed after a long walk.

Takeaway cod and chips over BH weekend - fish was not fresh or flakey, chips were soggy - real disappointment. Ok - so it was extremely busy but no excuse to charge over the top for something i could have cooked better myself - will not go back.

Takeaway and sit-in fish and chip shop. Prices are pretty reasonable. Only opted for chips, but these were well cooked and were a good portion. Note: They don't take card payments, so be sure to bring cash with you.

We always visit the lifeboat stations, my boy and i poped in to ask about parking and buy something and of course look at the boat! Wonderful ladies behind the till and i sincerly reccomend the reusable cup, its kept my tea hot! Which most do not. The lovely gentleman spoke with my son and showed us the gorgeous boat. Spent a fortune but its all for a amazing corse. Wonder ful organisation and i hope i never need them. I take my hat off to them all. Well done

Just the best fish and chips! Super fresh, light crispy batter, not greasy, just delicious. Chips were crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Cooked to order and just perfect!

We stopped for fish n chips over bank holiday and it was not nice at all,really gone down hill. The service wasn't up to m6ch either. No smile or welcome hello. Use to be the best in Hastings sadly I will not use again.

Worth visiting probably one of the best fish and chips in the Area

It was very quiet for a Friday which given recent reviews was a worry but I pushed on - my order was taken and cooked fresh. Two cod and a plaice with chips. The server was quiet but pleasant enough. The result when I opened the bag at home was excellent. Lovely thick pieces of fish beautifully cooked. Chips were great.

Have been here a few times over last few years eating in or takeaway was always delicious but has gone downhill dramatically.I am assuming there has been a change of ownership had takeaway and in nutshell fish was tasteless and chips were inedible.Unfortunately will not be returning great shame.

This fish and chip was awarded fish and chip shop of the year not so long ago with a previous owner. We had a portion of fish and chips and the fish was terrible Not what you expect from a fishing port. The fish was very soft underbelly like it had sat on the drainer for a long time. We were the only customers in the fish and chip shop and the fish had been cooked for a long time The owner didn’t seem to care if he had customers or not. I find it hard to give a bad review as this is a livelihood for a family but this owner didn’t seem to care.

Had the huss here and it cost 4.90 for medium. huss was flavourless and the batter was a thin texture, floury taste and not a bit crunch .

Down in Hastings today for the New R.N.L.I. Lifeboat. There was also a Classic Motor Cycle Show. When feeling Hungry, we went to The Lifeboat Restaurant. This is a Good Old Fashioned Fish & Chip Shop. Where you pay, Cash Only. No Latte Coffee's, just Fish & Chips with a Slice of Bread & Butter & a Cup of Tea. As the saying goes, it does what it says on the Tin.

Really good chippy. Lovely food, generous sized portions and reasonably priced. Service is also fairly quick, dont have to wait for ages like some chip shops. Good place to eat.

Asking for Huss on a Sunday afternoon at 2 pm , told sorry *none left* ( fish market only 5 mins away and open- no effort made on the concern. The batter on our cod was thick and heavy(very poor), chips were good.Tabling cheap and nasty ,, (done recently)

Never had a bad meal here and have been going for many years. The staff have always been very friendly and if you sit outside the restaurant to eat, they check that you are happy with your food. Everyone I have recommended this place to have been completely satisfied. Have visited with friends and my family.

Have been going here for years was the best ever and yesterday was to disappointed the fish was like rubber the cod Roe batter was white and runny the chips looked like they had been someone's left overs from last week and expensive a wasent even sad when a seagull stole ma fish

We visited last year and loved it so decided to come back this year. You cannot fault the food, once again it was tasty and delicious. This little restaurant from the outside looks small and a bit run down compared to others in the area,however i would happily choose this place over them just for the food and warm welcome. Would highly recommend

I have been visiting this fish and chip restaurant/takeaway for 6 years, and it used to be one of the very best in Hastings. I went in last week, and the management/personnel appeared to have changed. Fish was greasy, and chips seemed to have been made with very pock-marked potatoes. Not nice. And the prices were too high!! Not impressed at all. I thought of giving this one star only.

Fish and chips by the sea is a must. This place is perfectly adequate although the fish I had was a little soggy but for the price and convenience it’s worth a visit if you’re walking along the seafront

Quaint, quiet little fish and chip shop on the Hastings seafront with delicious food! Does a lot to support the RNLI. Highly recommended.

Good food every time we’ve been there, can have a long queue especially if there is an event in town (May Day / Jack in the Green festivities or Carnival day for example) but worth the wait.

Fantastic meal at a bargain price will visit again in the near future
