Freindly service, nice bar area however the decor needs more pictures on the walls , nachos started with a sprinkle of tastles cheese & shop bought salsa dip , fish & chips was a frozen breaded fish finger & just crap in my opinion, chicken burger was nice & tasty chips.

Needing a feed before heading to a nearby bothy for the night and with no other options in Newcastleton, I dined here. Yes: the hotel was in the right place and the meal filled me up but those are the only vaguely positive points about my visit. Cod fillet and chips @ £15 was basically breaded fish and oven chips with a small pot of peas. It's the sort of thing you'd do yourself from the freezer when you've nothing else in stock. The bar was soulless and unwelcoming. Very much a locals sort of place. Can't imagine they get many staying guests.

Tried to book for dinner - a very limited choice of food was offered and 6.30pm was too late! Nothing else is open so it’s can of tomato soup for dinner tonight. I would suggest the fella running the place should consider a different line of work, hospitality doesn’t suit him if he can’t be bothered to provide a meal for a family at 6.30pm I suspect this sort of poor customer attitude will ultimately close the place.

Booked a table and entered the premises with a hearty appetite being down for the weekend. The Chef came out took our order and Fish and Chips was the order of the day . Good 20 minutes later we got our plate of crinkle chips and a small piece of fish flavoured cardboard and wee tiny cup of peas all taken from the freezer ... At the best part of £15 a head The Chef is having a laugh. If he's a Chef I'm Michael Jackson ! A shame really as the Bar Staff were lovely . The locals were very friendly but all spoiled by our poor food experience....

We called for a couple of drinks in the early evening & found a pretty soulless pub, with just a few locals chatting in a group. They were friendly enough, as were the bar staff, so we sat facing the lovely fire which was just about the only redeeming feature. We were stuck for somewhere to dine, as the pub next door was temporarily closed and the only other pub didn’t do food. There is a bistro but it was fully booked. We took a chance on trying the food on offer but we regretted it as soon as it arrived. We thought the fish and chips would be fine but when it arrived it wasn’t proper fish, it’s was re-constituted fish in breadcrumbs & from the freezer. The chips were oven chips and not good quality. I think the pub is missing a golden chance here to put down a marker as it’s the only pub in the village serving food, at the moment. A decent chef & i’m sure word would soon get around. Lastly, I like cask ale & I was pleased to see they had one on offer. Sadly they obviously have never been shown how to pull a pint the correct way.

Although I wouldn’t say our midweek drink was a poor experience, it was a little bleak. As the only customers, the landlord sipping a lonely pint at the bar told us he’d have usually shut up by 8pm and that the culture around pubs and going out for a drink had changed. The hotel itself had certainly declined - it was clean but the open fire and tradition fittings were gone. It wasn’t a cosy lounge. For the sake of nostalgia I had a peek in the other room - which was in darkness. It came across from the landlord I was being nosy! We didn’t feel hugely welcome so just had half a Tennants lager which to be fair was good . Perhaps at a busier time there may be more hospitality.

Great host and great food. Stayed for 2 days as taking part in the Dirty Reiver cycling event in nearby Kielder. Thomas the host gave us a great welcome in this great little hotel in the centre of the town. Ignore the menu on the front door as Thomas changes the menu each day to suit your tastes which meant we had stroganoff with pasta and rice the night before to 'carb up' and then a very good stacked burger and chips after the ride. He then sent us off with a haggis cooked breakfast and we were well happy. Couldn't recommend this place highly enough. Cheers Thomas... Hopefully see you next year!

Booked in on the recommendation of Sorbietrees B&B. Whilst it was recommended that we booked a table, we weren't sure which local restaurant to book at until we had looked at the menu's. The Liddensdale won! Whilst we had the distinct impression that we should have booked (so the table could have been set up), Thomas took our orders and checked for any food allergies. We were a party of 5 (3 adults and 2 kids); we all absolutely loved our dishes. I ordered slow cooked beef - it was delicious. Several side dishes of vegetables were served; they were cooked to perfection and there was a great selection. The main dishes definitely appeared to be homemade. The desserts were also good, whilst I suspect not homemade, and Thomas was only to happy for us to have custard with the apple pie instead of ice cream. Would definitely recommend this place to others. Though note that last orders for food is 8pm.

We went for Sunday lunch hoping for a roast dinner but there was none on the menu. They only had their weekday menu, my wife had chicken breast wrapped with bacon and stuffed with haggis with a cream and whisky sauce, tasty but rich. I had steak and ale pie which was disappointing because it was not a pie, it was just beef in gravy with a separate fluffy piece of pastry, not what I expected from the menu but it was tasty. We were the only ones in the hotel!!

Only had a drink in here, sadly the beer wasn’t any good. The place needs updating, a good clean and lots of love! Barman very knowledgable of the area, walks, cycling and river. It’s ideally situated right in the village with lots of parking and pleasant views.

We enjoyed our one night stay here. Our room was quiet and comfortable but on the small side, as was the shower room. Breakfast was very good and freshly cooked to order. Evening meal was tasty (lamb tagine can be recommended) but food availability slots were limited and may not suit everyone. Some rooms are having bathrooms revamped, so check availability directly with the pub rather than booking site on line for latest details. Parking available right outside. We would certainly go back to this hotel.

We visited for one night on a cycle tour. Thomas was very welcoming and there was a secure storeroom for our bikes. We had a delicious evening meal cooked by Thomas. There was an excellent menu choice at breakfast too and very generous portions. Rooms were modestly priced and very clean. Would definitely recommend.

The restaurant at this hotel was recommended by our B & B owner. She told us that she liked Tom’s cooking (Tom being the chef). And she was very right. This is a friendly pub/restaurant in the village of Newcastleton. We ate there for 2 nights running and the food was delicious on both occasions. Home made soup to start, followed by beef lasagne with salad, chips and garlic bread - all very tasty.I ventured to try a pudding on my 2nd visit - sticky chocolate and orange cake with ice cream - absolutely delicious! And the service was good, and very friendly.

We arrived at the hotel just after 5pm and although we were the only people there it took some time before a waitress arrived. We were given the menu and told that the chef would come and tell us the specials. Tomas the chef duly appeared after some time and asked if we had any allergies or were vegetarian and told us the specials which was a long list so plenty to choose from. The food was very nice and well cooked. We had to ask for the bill, but the staff are very pleasant and seem a bit laid back.

Nice cake and coffee, but bit of a disappointment after reading online recommendations- limited selection other than scones and cake, and the staff not very friendly compared to other individual cafes: thought this would be something a bit more unique and special : nice bookshop and store

This was our second visit to Loulabelle's, the other being in 2023. Lots of delicious food plus friendly staff. We had lunch before visiting a nearby attraction, then nipped back for tea and a cake afterwards. Not cheap, but everything is delicious. The decorations include some great pictures.

Very disappointed, arrived for lunch bringing my brother and wife as they are on holiday, had to wait 10 minutes to be seated although there was an empty table where we were standing, we were given menu's then totally ignored for the next quarter of an hour, a young waitress saw us and I asked could we place an order (we were going to have a 3 course lunch) she said yes and then went over and chatted with another waiter, after a further 5 minutes we decided to leave and go into kelso, we went to a place in kelso and were treated correctly and served immediately.

I'm afraid I won't be back. Went to use the facilities and I went into toilets and heard giggling didn't hang around but imagine my dismay when 2 of your cleaners came out of said toilets doing up trousers and straightening themselves up!. Absoloutley disgusting. I've the names of both. To say I'm appalled is an understatement. I came in to shop not witness sex acts. In uniform at the workplace! I'll be informing my friends and family. If this is how you allow your staff to behave! Disgusting if my daughter had been with me and saw that I'd have rang the polis straight away!
