There has been a lot of effort put into the renovation and there are some comfortable seats and semi private areas, but it feels a bit lacking in atmosphere. The food is quite nice but not enough for me to want to eat there regularly

Had a delicious roast in here yesterday with the family. I had the mixed meat and the pork was especially good. All the timings were good too. It's a nice building that I've been told has recently been refurbished and reopened and they've done a good job. Staff were attentive and good atmosphere - recommended.

Newly renovated, beautiful and spacious inside. The Sunday roast is delicious, I got the mixed roast. The pork belly and the roast chicken is the best in my opinion! But all great choices. Definitely come! And the staff are really attentive so you never have to wait too long for service.

We visited for a Sunday roast with our daughter and boyfriend. Both of us have always been disappointed in the past when we've had a roast dinner in a Pub. The Leyton Engineer has restored our faith in a pub doing a great roast dinner. Only downside was my Husband's apple crumble could have benefited with a larger serving of custard as it was a little on the dry side. My chocolate brownie was excellent 👍

Love what the team have done with the pub refurb and have visited a good few times since reopening. Roasts on a Sunday are great but… the food menu is otherwise pretty boring and we’re opting for other places when in the area at the moment. Would be great to see a similar offering to Royal Inn On The Park with some more exciting dishes.

An incredible renovation of Leyton Town Hall here. To see what the place has been converted into is remarkable. This was a municipal building for years, until it closed and squaters moved in maybe 20 years ago. It finally has been regained for public use into this beautiful homely, late 1800/ early 1900's feel complete with some leather seating, velvet privacy curtains, genuine props from that time and a games room that feels like a Local where everyone is welcome. Credit to the staff, the designers, the Albanian decorator, and who ever had the vison to restore one of Leyton's finest buildings.

Happy to report that the revamp is gorgeous. I really like that this large space has been used to cater to different needs, some little nooks, some big tables, then a chilled pub/bar space and a more formal restaurant on the right. You could go as a group of friends, or with visiting family (although I think kids only allowed in the restaurant area in the evening), plus there's the Club Room which had darts, pool etc. The decor is smart but inviting, there's ambience but it wasnt too loud. In terms of food - staff were attentive, efficient and kind, food was delish (especially the small plates - recommend the beef teriyaki) and all came out in good time despite being a busy night. Generally good vibes all round. Chuffed this is our new local!

Taken a while to reopen but it's got a good vibe and friendly staff. Tried the bacon cheeseburger while I was there and, while I had to reconstruct it because the bacon and salad were on the edge of the bun, it doesn't take away from the tasty burger itself. Good pint of Guinness too. I like that they're trying a range of events to see what sticks; selfishly I hope they all do as I can't make it to any of the immediately scheduled ones 😅.

First-time visit with my friend. We had a couple of pints. I got curious about their food, so we ordered curried cauliflower soup and venison stew. The soup was quite nice, creamy, thick, and flavorful. However, the stew was served straight from the microwave. The meat and dumpling were dry, the stew juice was watery, and the plate was messy. So I went to the bar with the plate and told them it wasn't worth £21, and they refunded me despite my willingness to pay for it because we had eaten some off the plate. Therefore, the service there is brilliant! Nice refurbished premises, surely I will give it another go!

Great to see the Engineer open again and it truly looks wonderful and has a great atmosphere in it (although the acoustics are not great when it's very busy and particularly when small children are crying in the same area). However despite the reviews of food being positive I saw I was left pretty disappointed with the small plates I got. The duck was dry and grey, the mac and cheese was fine although grainy and not well seasoned and the bruschetta was a single slice of bread so not good economically (£7.50 is a bit steep for one slice) or if you want to get it as a sharing plate. Someone else at my table had the stew which was much better but it was disappointing the others weren't of the same quality.

Honestly I was so pleased with this place! It’s quite rare to drink in such a large, imposing, historical building like this. Most of this size are really bad chains to Wetherspoons, so it’s awesome to have something like this in the neighbourhood. The choice of draft beer was excellent! Something for everyone & when I say everyone I mean, the regular lads on the street that want to have a pint with mates. Right the way through to the more trend led people ie the pale ale & ipa drinkers. The crowd has super diverse, everyone behaved, the atmosphere was awesome. We didn’t eat but we went onto have wine, the mid priced to entry prices red & whites were super good. You know in pubs sometimes, the wine is like petrol & your head doesn’t thank you for it in the morning. This wasn’t the case here at all…..which is a huge relief. The staff also were lovely, some definitely more chatty & confident than others, but everyone was extremely pleasant. They have done such a great job of this place, the plant room is beautiful…..we had window & original features envy the entire time!! We would definitely return, next time with our dog as it’s dog friendly. Well done guys!!

Lovely to see the old girl open again. Staff were great, plenty of beer choices, and decent tunes on the free jukebox. I think the lighting in places is too bright/white, and needs to be warmer and turned down a bit. And a couple of the rooms could do with some curtains to soften things. I'm sure this will change over time though.

Fabulous pub! I'm so glad this has opened. I never came to it before it closed, so have nothing to compare it to, but they've really done a fantastic job with the renovations. It has a few different seating areas depending on if you're a big group for drinks or wanting to sit in a proper dining room for food, and depending on the vibe you're feeling - more intimate cosy snugs areas as well as big group tables. We came for food and had the chicken burger, beef burger and the mac and cheese. Rarely am I satisfied with mac and cheese, but it was really great and I would order it again. Can't wait for the expanded menu to come and we'll be back to sample it all. I'm so happy this has opened. We will be coming back over and over!

The refurbishment was done brilliantly it was previously not used to its full potential but is now the place to be in Leyton! Few vegan options to eat and few non alcoholic options too. Called into the Leyton Engineer last night, as this site has just opened after a refurbishment and we were not disappointed. Stunning building from the exterior to the interior (photos attached) My partner had the Litovel Premium, a Czech lager (and had another) and I tried the beavertown satellite which is a low abv session ipa with loads of floral and citrus fruits. After loooking at the menu we decided to both have Burgers, 1 beef and the other chicken. Both had ample servings of chips and again, we were not disappointed. We were going to have dessert but will leave that for our return. We found the staff to be very attentive and knowledgeable with the offerings of a great choice of beers and wines. We will definitely be going back again to the Leyton Engineer for more of the same

My girlfriend and I lasted about three minutes in this place. We were greeted, or at least I think you could call it a greeting if the chap who works there just stood next to us at the bar and stared at us without saying a word for an uncomfortable amount of time. I caved and said hello first. I then asked if he worked here because we were in need of a drink, after all I was stood at the bar with some cash in my hand. He told me 'occasionally I work here' and again he stared at me like I was from another planet and I genuinely thought I'd lost the ability to hear and perhaps I was frozen in time. Very arrogant so we left. Wouldn't recommend regardless how desperate you are for a drink.

The service was friendly and efficient ,the room large and empty so lacking in character when we were there ,however I am sure when full there is a good vibe. There was a good lounge area where folk were playing games, another area where a group were celebrating a birthday. The beer pipes need a clean as my pint of IPA was cloudy. I came here at 6pm on a Tuesday it was not to busy but there seemed to be a major breakdown in communication in the kitchen. We had squid and scotch egg for dtarters which were very nice. However when it came to mains we ordered Sausage and mash and two Guinness Pie the accompaniments of cauliflower cheese and mash which were both cold on the two plates my friends were eating from. We had to take back to the kitchen ourselves due it getting busy with football crowd. Then they brought three pies back and no sausages. My friends ate the pies which they enjoyed now that the whole dish was warm. I had to wait for an additional 15 mins for my sausage and mash. My friends had finished before i had mine. The waitress gave us a discount of 25% but given service in the kitchen was so poor we felt this was a tad miserly. The food was good ehen you hot it but things need sorting out. This has got to be one of the best pubs in London, packed with character and with some great beer. I was really looking forward to our pre-football drink here but the surly manner of the two women on the door really spoilt our visit. I appreciate that we had to queue if the pub is too busy, but there is a nice way of telling people that and explaining what is going on or you can snarl at people. And they were very much in the latter camp. Sadly, this will be my last visit here.

Identified this as my first choice of pub on a trip to Leyton Orient, but was very disappointed. Eight real ales on offer - but all were light blonde or pale ales, with no bitters, porters or stouts. Even the ‘session beer’ was a light insipid light ale. Staff were understanding and apologetic, and directed me to the Coach & Horses which was close by, where there was a limited, but more appropriate choice of ales on sale. Don’t understand the approach to not offer a variety of beer.

This was our third visit to the former library cum pub and on this occasion we chose to eat in the restaurant area rather than one of the side rooms or main bar. The decor is reminiscent of an old fashioned library or a faded gentleman's club although the bar area is vibrant and bustling. The menu is burger-focussed although other dishes are available. The waitress was extremely helpful and fitted us in before a large group which we certainly appreciated. My wife and daughter drank the house red which was better than expected and I had a real ale called Trinity which I can recommend. All our meals were served promptly and were well presented and tasty.
