Used to visit this restaurant regularily up until 2-3 years ago as service had dropped badly. Thought try again as local friends had said improved. Lovely welcome by owner still staggering and shmoozing the ladies.Have a great menu here but was extremely disappointed requested my favourite dish sea bass ( which has a large spot on the menu only to find they only had 2 for the Saturday evening and 4 of us wanted as this was one of the restaurants specialities !!!! there was no other fish as a choice, was very upset I let the ladies have all they had.In the end as really wanted fish went for White Bait on a salad ( a large starter) which they made up for me.

One of the main reasons to go to this very good Turkish restaurant is they serve the best local grilled sea bass. I had called 2 days earlier and said that at least 4 of the 8 in our party would want it. We were surprised on ordering that they only had enough for 2 people and this on a Saturday night! That aside the mixed hot and cold meze starters for £6.25 is enormous and plenty for 2 people to share. We all had various starters, 2 sea bass, 2 mixed kebab (again huge with loads of salad and/or rice), and various kebabs and salads which everyone thought was excellent. With a bottle of excellent house red wine, 3 glasses of white, vodka and lime and diet cokes etc, with 10% service the bill came to £25 per person. Not bad for Mill Hill. Owner Sadat is a character and runs a good establishment but needs to make sure his Saturday night customers can have what's on the menu!

The best word to describe Leyla is empty. The food itself is not bad at all. Far from fine dining but it's the better side of a good kebab. It's simple, understated Turkish food. However, it just feels empty. The restaurant was far from full and this subtracted from the atmosphere making it very lonely. It felt like the staff were staring at us constantly as there were only two other people in the restaurant- of course, they were just being attentive. The interior of the restaurant was lacking something and I'm not sure what! Whether it was the lack of wall art, bare tables or the restaurants cry for an interior refurb- I can't put my finger on it!! I left feeling empty inside despite having eaten quite a bit- simply because the restaurant didn't make me feel happy like food should. Staff were fairly attentive too. Good food but it was the dead ambiance that let Leyla down.

We booked a table at the back of the restaurant because Leyla in known as a noisy venue. Got there to find the table we had booked had been given to someone else. Strike 1. Service was slow and inattentive. Strike 2. The noise in the restaurant was ridiculous. If fact the group on the next table left because of the noise. The food when it arrived was great. No complaints at all, hot tasty and plentiful. Here comes strike 3. They said no deserts as someone left them in the freezer. Overall this place is past its sell by date.

Came here on a Saturday night with friends to find that the lovely gentleman who normally looks after us was not there. Instead we were treated to an evening of rotten service and not very good food portions. We ordered our food and having had our starters waited absolutely ages for the plates to be cleared. When our main courses arrived we were staggered to see a pathetic portion of lamb chops. The waitress realised this and came back with a plate with more chops that was put in the middle of the table. It was not really enough for the two men to share but we didn't say anything. The woman in charge came over and asked how our evening was and we said very disappointing as we normally have a great evening. She didn't apologise or offer a coffee or drink. She told us that they were short staffed... really not my problem - if they have staff shortages then don't open the restaurant and take bookings. We were there to have a good evening and it was awful. I was very embarrassed as we took friends. The meal was expensive for four us and extremely disappointing. The young waiter took the service off the bill but since when has service been obligatory. It was so bad we were not intending to give them a tip! The woman in charge that evening needs to learn something about customer service. Her attitude was awful and we will not be coming. What a pity as we have been going to Leyla for years.

For the second time at this establishment I have been kept waiting for over one hour for a takeaway estimated at 20 min. The exceptionally rude self described co-owner (Naomi) came up with every excuse known to man without an apology or offer of a price reduction. Went to the rear kitchen to confirm progress to find a selection of staff without appropriate dress tasting food with uncovered hands. Left with instructions to throw my order in the bin. Will never return and will be ordering from ikram okabasi from now on. A much more professional setup without the questionable kitchen hygiene standards and rude owners

As mentioned previously I think the gap is too big between average and very good. I would describe Leyla's as good. We went in a party of 15, adults and kids for an early dinner. The owner and the staff are very friendly and welcoming but the food was served at different times and wasn't always great. For the basics of meze and kebabs it was fine but I wouldn't return in a hurry.

Have been visiting Leyla on countless occasions over the last 3 years and whilst the quality and choices of some of the foods (mainly mixed meze) has suffered a great deal and some ingredients on the menu have not been stocked in a few years, I still return every once in a while. This is because the owner is a true classic who is as entertaining as Basil Faulty. You may have to wait for a long time on a weekend, but you surely have something to talk about whilst you're waiting and the portions are always generous.I just wish the attention to detail and quality in the kitchen would resume.

Went to Leyla restaurant for the first time 15 Mar 14: arrived to find plenty of empty tables and friendly staff, ordered starters and mains and drinks. Starters and drinks arrived in plenty of time, only one complaint there pastry too thick on borek. Restaurant started to fill up, our empty starter dishes were on the table and drinks glasses, male staff member took away 3 of the starter plates and we asked for drinks. 20 mins later female member of staff was approached for drinks we were told to wait. Male staff then brought over a large amount of cooked meat which we informed him was not ours. After one hour, no drink refills and only starters received I paid for what we had received and explained why. Female staff very apologetic, what else could she say. Very, very disappointed, will never return and will advise others same.

A group of 8 of us went to Leyla on Saturday. The restaurant operates two servings so in theory the first seating should be finished by 9pm. There is a bar area with some seating, however it's not nearly big enough to accomodate all of the people waitnig for the second seating and they serve bar food which means that it's even less likely that you can get a seat or stand comfortably. The result is that from 8.30 until circa 9.40 we were bumped, jostled and cramped until our table was eventually ready. Once we were seated we were told that we had to have the sharing menu option and that there was no other choice for groups of 6 or more. When I told the waiter that we were not informed of this when booking and suggested that maybe he could treat us as 2 groups of 4 he refused and would only say that we had to order from the set menu.I spoke to another member of staff who after a brief conversation and explaining that at least one of our group was vegeterian said that we could order from the main menu but our food would tkae much longer if we did this. When I enquired fruther he said it woudl take an additional 10 minutes. We ordered our food and eventually started to eat around 10.30. The food itself was OK, however the people that ordered the sharing menu were served the wrong menu.To really finiish off the experience we had some after dinner drinks and the Gin and Tonic that I had asked for was presented to me and the waiter announced that it was a Vodka and tonic. When I told him I had ordered a Gin and Tonic his immediate reaction was yes that is what this is. The Drink not only didn't taste of gin but was completley flat. They brought a second one which was also flat but did not taste of alcohol at all. When I questioned this the waiter's response was "Is this your first drink this evening". When I explained how rude this was the waiter backpelled saying that he meant was it my first Gin and Tonic this evening as I may not be familiar with how Leyla serve thier Gin and Tonic. If Saturday nigth was anyhting to go by they serve their G&T with Vodka or very little alcohol and flat tonic. I asked for a refund and was presented with a 3rd G&T which I refused. I was finally presented with a refund that was 20% lower than the actual cost of the drink so had to querry this as well.In summary the food is OK but I'm not sure that I have ever had the misfortune of being so poorly treated by staff in a restaurant before. There are some people that shoudl not work in the service industry, it appears that a number of them currently work at Leyla.

The wall of noise that greets you when you open the door could be a definite problem for the over 60's and those with sensitive hearing. It was noisy with every voice becoming competitive and stentorian! Loud, Loud, Loud. Enough to put you off staying. We chose the Meze to start followed by two people having the lamb skewers on rice, whilst I opted for Lamb chops with chips. The little blonde said that some of the lamb chunks were very chewy indeed . The lamb chops were fine- perhaps a bit overdone. My meal came with a salad as wel,l and I sked for it to be removed so I could fit my chips on the plate. The wine was an exceptionally good Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Very young and very fruity. The service was good and always charming.By the tine we had finished the Meze, we really were no longer hungry, but needs must, so we ate as much as possible. Don't get me wrong, the food is good, but needed just a little touch of finesse. Lamb chops should nrever be overcooked - these were. Probably, the prices were reasonable for a suburban meal, £78.00 for three having two courses eachMy wife said that It would not bother her if we never returned, and I can only conclude that your previous reviewers managed to turn their deaf aids down. I couldn't as I do not wear one.

We decided that for our Aussie cousins first night in London (on Monday 1st October 2012) for 5 years, we would go to Leyla in Mill Hill for dinner. Charmingly met by owner & host Sadat & his son, 8 of us sat at a comfortable round table. Some of us had the gorgeous & huge portion of Sea Bass, some the massive chicken escalope, some the plentiful lamb chops - all served if required with huge portions of salad/fresh vegetables or chips. Every one of us said it was one of the best meals we'd had in a long time, complimented by an excellent rose wine.Combined with the charming old fashioned top qulaity service, this has easily become our favourite restaurant in North West London.

We went for brunch to Florentin and had a good meal. The food was excellent - very much a contemporary Tel Aviv vibe. Service was a bit hit and miss and our waitress was pretty surely. That and the ridiculously loud blender coming on sporadically were the reasons we did give it a five star rating. We’ll probably be back, it hoping they do sort out the issues.

According to Google Maps, this Golders Green branch has now permanently closed. However, there does seem to be another Turkish restaurant of the same name on Ballards Lane, North Finchley.
