I cannot fault the care and attention that the staff gave to gluten free meal alongside a capsicum allergy. The manager was excellent. The food was delicious for myself and my sister. Price very reasonable (eat in). Great size tea pot. Enormous portion sizes. Homemade tartar sauce Wish lived nearby !

We had the cod, chips and mushy peas and they were absolutely gorgeous. Cooked fresh as ordered and to perfection. So tasty, there wasnt a scrap left from either of us. Reasonably priced and potions were decent. Definitely recommend.

Any fish and chip shop with a queue on the street is usually good, and this one was no exception. The service was quick, although they were very busy. The catch of the day was monkfish, it was delicious, and batter was very light and crisp. The small portion of chips was generous, as were the mushy peas. Highly recommend.

Utterly delicious. My girlfriend is Gluten Free, so the option for gluten free fish, everyday of the week is incredible to her. Actually, I’ve been having it too as the batter is fabulously crunchy. Good portion sizes and properly cooked…to order, more often than not. Yes they can be brusque in there, but imagine trying to herd holidaymakers through your establishment and cook to order and serve them. Cornwall isn’t a theme park, many people seem to forget that.

We went later on a Saturday night, when the queue had subsided and placed a larger order for 8. I was surprised and disappointed to find the chips were soggy and the fish not that crispy. Whether we got the end of the day service or an old batch of chips, it was a real shame and lots went to waste. A costly and disappointing experience.

I've been here many years ago and remember it favourably. Recent Tripadvisor reviews are great. What could possibly go wrong? Well, actually, first off is the parking. For a takeaway restaurant parking is important (unless you're a local) and the the parking is awful. Just to be noted - it would be unfair to downgrade a chippie for something outside their control and I've not done so. Service was fine (contrary to some recent reviews) but my real issue was the food. Solid. Stodgy. Uninspiring. The fish itself was fine - fresh, decent portion size but a little overcooked, IMO. I drove 5 mins to eat it (because of the double-yellows) and the batter was soft and actually not cooked in a couple of places - odd given that the fish was over. I like both forms of chippie chips - soft with plenty of vinegar or hard crispy shell with a soft centre. These were fairly hard throughout and not wonderful. A bit of a chore to eat - so I didn't! My son took me to the local 'spoons 2 days later and the chips wee an order of magnetude better! My high hopes for a brilliant chippie just weren't met.

The food is incredible, the haddock and chips we ordered were huge and tasty. The fish is light and flakey and the chips are dry and delicious. The staff though… my god… if they were trained to be rude they’d get 10/10. The woman behind the counter shouted “hey blondie” stand to the left (which was confusing as she was pointing to the right and me and another customer were confused). If I had wanted to be shouted at I’d have gone to an army style body combat class not to a chippy. Overall great food but the customer service skills could do with being polished up. The food was so excellent we popped back the next day to get some for lunch, waited outside (on the correct side) and then came into the shop to be told they were closed…. I initially thought the attitude was a personal vendetta but reading the other reviews it appears the staff have zero charm.

If you were hungry and needed food, here meets the expectation. The fish and chips were good. Good crispy texture. It’s an efficient running corner shop you pay for the fresh food not the warmth of customer service and you pay for your condiments. Never had that experience before!

Food was fresh and well cooked but so overpriced? Cod and chips x 3 = £37.50??? for what turned out to be half a piece of fish ( no more than 6 inches long) and a lot of chips, like way too many with no vinegar and barely any salt. This is poor value, and they are happy to take your money. Don’t ask for cod and chips and expect value- you’ll need to be specific- and ask for what size fish you expect to pay for £8.10 each- a large cod and small chips perhaps for £12.00 plus extra for Tommy sauce. This is not a business who care if you come back.

This is easily our favourite fish and chip shop. In fact we won’t go anywhere else We have it as our fortnightly take away. Lovely chips and the most amazing fish ever!!! If you’re in Newlyn or even near definitely pop in you won’t be sorry.

Very Very nice fish and chips and we are fussy! The food was served quickly and really well cooked. Generous portions and the mushy peas were good too! Also served chicken and kids meals for the non fish eaters.

Very fresh cod (as you would expect) in a light crispy batter. The chips are not greasy also. All food is cooked to order so be prepared for a wait. Once ordered & paid for - there is a numbered ticket system & after waiting outside you collect your food when called. This great British staple is great from here, but at £26 for 2 cod & chips & 1 x mushy peas it's not cheap any longer...

In the world! We always go to Lewis' when we holiday in Cornwall. Visited the chip shop twice this last week. As always it never failed to deliver on quality fish and chips. So sadly lacking in chip shops "up country". No scrimping on portions either. Highly, highly recommended!!

Outstanding Haddock and lovely chips with superb service from Tracy especially when my frustrating particular son (4yo) said he didn't want snv on his chips, she came and gave him another bag gratis with none on them. Haddock was fresh, boned and skinned, something some chippies in so called trendy or seafaring areas unfathomably don't do. Some who don't skin their fish don't even descale them??? This large and airy takeaway is right next to the famous fish market in Newlyn, and this position makes for an interesting ‘catch of the day’ option, as the shop’s fish is sourced directly from the fishermen opposite. Delicious food served in large portions.

I wouldn't like to say Lewis's make the very best fish n chips I've ever had but they're certainly somewhere up there in the top 5.The fish was very fresh and firm, batter not too greasey and the chips done to perfection. My mum had cod roe which is a choice that sorts out the men from the boys, as regards chip shops, and it was very good indeed. No skimping on size, as is so often the case, and (I tried a bit) the most delicious cod roe I've tasted in many years.Service was brisk and efficient.Recommended.

We decided before even setting off on our 6.5hr journey to Cornwall that we will definitely be having fish & chips at least once.We found Lewis fish & chips while investigating Newlyn as we were staying there.The portions were very generous, my 7 & 4 year olds would definitely recommend the fish & chips and my 4 year old was very impressed with his first try of scampi.We will definitely be visiting on our next trip

Had 4 cod and chips from here last night and frankly I was amazed at how fabulous they were. I am really particular about my fish and chips and would rather not have them than have mediocre ones. I could see the reviews were strong and even though we are staying in Penzance and there are a couple of other good ones on the door step we thought we would go over to Newlyn as we were not wowed by Fraser’s when we went a couple of years ago. All I can say is that the ones from Lewis were absolutely excellent. Couldn’t find fault with anything what so ever. Chips excellent. Fish excellent. Batter excellent. Price excellent. Vinegar (Bought a bottle) excellent. Well worth the slightly longer trip to get them. Still sitting here thinking how amazing they were.
