We were four for lunch. First delicious warm bread. Between we had an exquisite beetroot soup, fresh gnocci with green pesto and globe artichokes delicately prepared followed by a perfect green salad. We finished with cherry pie, a hazelnut roulade and coffee. Afterwards we went next door to admire Leila's shop where the fresh ingredients for our meal were all on sale.

We received very poor customer service and made to feel extremely unwelcome. The server refused to seat us in the cafe because we wanted coffee only and not lunch. They did not offer any alternatives or even a light lunch so we left.

I went here because of the cute location and I have to say that the food was really tasty but the portions were very small. I would recommend it for the experience of the area and the local vibe but not for a lunch that would fill you up.

I have never written a trip advisor review but feel compelled to as the woman working in this shop was maybe one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. I see from these reviews that many people have had the same experience, so I hope at some point she’ll absorb this feedback about what energy she’s putting out into the world, and get some help.

Passing Leila’s shop I noticed a sign for a lunchtime Tiffin. You buy a stainless steel Tiffin and then have it filled with a choice of two lunches. I had flat bean, coconut and spinach curry with rice and cabbage, cucumber and chutnies. It was unusual, interesting and delicious! I can go back with my Tiffin to buy a refill for lunch each week, I think wed to sat. Food: excellent Service: friendly and welcoming Ambience: yes it was takeaway but top marks for such an interesting idea

Had been once before and felt looked down upon by the person I assume is the owner. Made the mistake of returning this weekend and was again made to feel unwelcome and looked down upon by the same person. Such a shame as between the cafe and the shop they take up a lot of space on what is otherwise a lovely street.

Very strange service from staff - do they actually want customers? Arrived to meet friends. Only spaces were on a long central table. Told couldn't sit there as it was for singles only so would have to sit outside - it was drizzling. When waitress came outside she wanted our order and was put out because we hadn't looked at menu indoors. Only coffee available was filter despite a huge commercial coffee machine in the kitchen. Fresh apple juice was good but expensive for such a small glass. As soon as we had finished eating table cleared and told to pay at the till. A shame bad service and attitude spoiled the delicious croissants.

I had eggs and coffee here today and it was a pretty good experience: the staff were polite, brought me some free water, and it was a nice, peaceful -laid-back atmosphere in the cafe with some great music. I actually prefer a limited menu in smaller places as it allows the kitchen to focus on what they're really good at, and the eggs were excellent. Staff in the shop were very friendly, too.

She was very rude, she postponed our order as much as she could, she didn't want to bring me something to drink until the other person will arrive (as I told her that my boyfriend will arrive in 5 min), because she refused other people for the table I have chosen in the sun (which no body wanted because was very warm). The eggs were not as we have expected given into account that we have paid 14£ for 4 fried eggs with sage and 4 slices of toast bread, but leaving aside this aspect her attitude was rude and we didn't feel treated as clients. I have insisted to stay and be as calm as I could because each time we have passed by this place we felt a good vibe...wasn't so good the vibe in reality and ...

Reflecting the now ‘trendy’ area this small basic cafe with a very small menu appears to have attracted several terrible reviews recently. Based on my experience, the service was OK and the food was tasty. I would not use again as I like some choice of dishes. Generally the tables suit couples or singles and not a place for children. I can’t comment on price as my son picked up the bill.

Such a shame I’ll give anywhere a bad day but this is the second time in a few weeks and I was frankly embarrassed in front of my friend as the woman spoke to me in such patronising way. Paper and cup down the street is 100% better option.

I used to love this place. Went today and so disappointed I won't be going back. We arrived at the changeover between breakfast and lunch so had to wait, which was fine although nobody offered us a drink while we were waiting. I went to take a picture of the clock in the kitchen and the staff member rudely shouted from the kitchen "no photos". There were no signs I could see asking for photos not to be taken. I wouldn't have minded being asked respectfully not to take photos, but I did not appreciate being shouted at.We left without eating. Such a shame.

I went in to Leila's shop today, it looked cute from outside. However, as soon as, I entered in one of their staff approach me and asked me to sit by the door next to a couple who was having breakfast. It was a awkward situation the couple and myself sitting so closely together. I didn't feel anymore a welcoming place so I left without ordering anything. It wasn't like the place was fully packed, they had empty tables at least two. Nevermind, I am not going back to that place it's not worth any penny. I recommend, to improve customer service.

The level of hygiene in this place is incredibly low: dirty table we had to ask to wipe twice, dirty spoon dipped in the sugar everyone uses, butter full of leftovers breadcrumbs and jam from previous customers, waiting staff handling already dished up food in front of customers with the same hands they would touch money, desserts are kept on the same counter that all clients would use to pay, the bathroom is also dirty with a bar soap and one towel for everyone to use that you really don't feel like touching. The sage eggs were ok (although £6 for two fired eggs!) and the coffe horrible, it just had a really bad flavour. Service very poor as well with long waiting times, the place is very small yet they don't seem to be able to make it work.In an area were competition is high I am not sure how this business will manage to survive unless it makes drastic changes to the way it is run and improves its levels of hygiene. One positive point is that the gave us a complimentary brownie after voicing all of these concerns, but surely it doesn't make up for the rest of the experience.

It's a nice place to look from outside while you wait to get a table as it's a small place and apparently very popular. Once you get inside you are sit in a dirty table and even after we asked to wipe it a little bit they left some strawberry jam just in front of me and I have to ask them again. We were shown the breakfast menu in the wall (which by the way has very limited options), and just after we ordered they changed to the lunch menu without even having suggested that we may have that option in few minutes.I ordered a ham & cheese croissant, that I could see from the bar and it looked delicious. Apparently the waitress who brought my order to the table wasn't sure if the croissant was ham & cheese or just cheese so she just opened the croissant in front of us to cheek the inside. Luckily it was the wrong order she didn't put that "touched" croissant in the table and went back to the kitchen to bring the ham & cheese croissant I ordered. The sugar pot they brought for the coffees had a used tea spoon with a lump of dry sugar stick to it, very disgusting I have to say. When we asked for another spoon, and showed them the one in the pot, they didn't even care about taking the old, used spoon from the sugar pot. When we went to the bar to pay, the waiter was preparing coffees and touching money at the same time, and giving the change through the bar where all the cakes were. In general the service was slow and not very hygienic.I am afraid to say that although it could look as a nice place with nice decoration I won't be back.

Food is good but not good enough to make up for the highly ridiculous prices and the very low service. Definitely not what you expect or want on a Saturday morning. They sat us and didn't even explain to us the dishes, menu, drinks... When asked, the waiter said they didn't have a menu and pointed to a board on a wall with 5 dishes. If we looked at the open kitchen, you could obviously see they had more options so we asked and he answered quickly and too concisely and ran away. We had to repeat this 3 times because he wouldn't stay to answer all our questions at once. How stupid does that sound tough? Having to guess what they offer? The 3 waiters wouldn't stop running up and down the small café, looking completely stressed and throwing the dishes roughly onto the tables. Dishes were around 7 to 8 pounds. A small piece of coca, 10 x 10 cm ( a coca is similar to a pizza) was £9,5. I wanted to cry.The noisy door wouldn't stop opening and closing.Ahh!! And no veggie option for the milk in your coffee!!! Leila's Shop is a side by side cafe and food store. The menu at Leila's shop is always seasonal. With a short menu to choose from it makes choosing simple with everything as delicious as everything else on the list. There are small tables and a larger share table inside with a couple of tables outside too which is a nice position to watch the people in the street - a good spot for dog watching. My boyfriend and I had beetroot, lentil and horseradish soup to begin (staff were kind enough to serve one portion in two bowls so we could have a taster) which was serves with a massive basket of delicious crusty bread. Then I had a courgette and goat's curd frittata and my boyfriend had the tomato and onion tart - both served with green leaves on the side. With a coffee and a mint tea the total bill came to £28 for lunch.Service was very friendly and kind - and it has always been so as I have visited this place on and off for many years an never been disappointed.

A simple, no-nonsense place with surprisingly excellent food and a pleasant, laid-back atmosphere. Leila's Shop (cafe) sits just off Shoreditch HIgh Street, between St Leonard's church and Arnold Circus, along a street with an eclectic mix of upmarket boutique shops, local greengrocers and local washerettes, of the style you only find in Shoreditch. Staff are friendly and prompt, the place fills up quickly towards lunchtime and you can choose from a daily changing range of specials including (today) a delicious, filling beetroot soup, an interesting range of sandwiches, quiches and salads, and cakes and desserts. The blood orange posset was rich and creamy, served with slices of fresh blood orange and a coconut crispy biscuit - yum! You will see the odd celebrity here (a genuine Holywood star), but locals are too cool to care. Highly recommended, though don't expect minimalist prices just because you are eating at bare wood tables and sitting on a plastic stool!

Been meaning to try this place as it has been mentioned a few times in various London "Best Sunday Roast" lists. The roast was quite nice, but nothing special. For the price, we were expecting vegetables to be included, but they had to be ordered separately. I asked the server whether the roast came with 'all the trimmings' and they said yes, so to find out otherwise was a bit annoying. The food was also under seasoned. Overall it was worth trying once, but the value for money wasn't great. Service was pretty good though, thanks for that.
