Leigh Tandoori in Southend-on-Sea

Booked a table at this restaurant for 28/03/2024 phoned again same day and confirmed numbers and time. Arrived at restaurant which was full , as was the waiting area, no table available. Was asked to wait and get a drink, we did half hour later still we were still waiting and no communication. Poor show, wont be going back

Attended for a private function for a friends birthday. Food and service was both very good and would defiantly recommend.. parking is available on the side roads , no residents permits !!

Ate here this evening was very disappointed overall. First of all my drink was flat . Asked the waiter a question and got attitude in return. Couldnt keep all the meal warm as they dont use table heaters and gavent for quite some time so whilst wating the food we already had on our plates , had we wanted anymore it was cold. Then we ordered coffee . My friend ordered a white coffee and i ordered a floater . Both coffees when delivered were cold and when we complained we were told " the machine makes it " . Definitely wouldnt recommend and i wont be returning !!

Honestly the best tandoori prawn dish I've had ever! My partner and his dad really enjoyed their dishes too. Lovely atmosphere and very welcoming. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant!

We live local, in fact this is the closest Indian to where we live. The food is so good but the service lets it down. Last couple of times we have been the miserable manager always makes a point of staying how long we have to eat ‘yes we are open but you have an hour’! Last time we phoned in advance at 10pm for a table and were told we were fine as long as there before 10:45. Turned up at 10:20 and told takeaway only. All staff just stood around and no one admitted to answering the phone to us earlier. Won’t be back. Bunch of miserable individuals. Embarrassing.

No doubt in my mind the best Indian restaurant in Leigh. Quality food and the people/service is great. Feel welcome and appreciated as a customer

Never again. Been here many times in the past. Turned up alone and asked for a table for one in a completely empty restaurant. They said they have no space. Soon walked out and found another better restaurant nearby. Won’t be back again ever nor will my friends

Best Indian restaurant by far do not complain if you feel service could be quicker.Your food is freshly cooked there specially there signature dishes.King Prawn in their shell's a absolute delight.

It was my first visit after multiple recommendations from friends. Probably one of, if not the best, Indian restaurants in the Leigh/Southend area. The menu has a wide selection, with some exciting house specials and lesser-seen dishes if you're up for something new. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, I couldn't fault the service. It was efficient, and waiters were happy to talk about the food with you. It was a lovely evening in a pleasant atmosphere with friends. Large tables for groups but also small booth tables for a low-key and quieter dining experience. I look forward to my next visit.

Tried a takeaway at the Leigh Tandoori and most certainly wont try one there again, not much more to add really as the food was really sub standard and nowhere as good as most other Indian takeaways around Leigh and we have tried most of them, if you want good Indian food then don't come here....

One of Leigh's little gems. I haven't visited this restaurant often enough over the years. Very high standards of food, service and just everything. Our food was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. The service was excellent, the atmosphere spot on and the prices not unreasonable. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and didn't like we'd overspent.

Service good and food tasty but my entire family had upset stomach…

We have dined here before and although extremely slow, was OK food. We got a takeaway and was advised 40 mins but was over an hour. Manager apologised and offered complimentary drink, but initial waiter was not so polite abd welcoming. Sag paneer was basically onion and spinach. I'm so sorry to complain but it was so poor. Will not be returning I'm afraid.

Great Food and a warm reception I have been a customer of this restaurant now for some time. You always get a great welcome on entering and nothing is too much trouble. The food is excellent and the variety is amazing. Cooked to perfection

This used to be such a great place. Everything has gone down hill massively: the service, the food. Slow and unfriendly waiters who unfortunately have issues with body odour!! My meal had four or five very small pieces of chicken and the sauce was very bland and watery. The prices have gone up but the quality has fallen to the point where it’s not worth my time any more. Such a shame.

Everything about this Indian is excellent, the food, service & price all bang on. My favourite is the Leigh special curry, mince & chicken tikka Had many takeaways & eaten in a few times never had a bad meal Highly recommend as this is the best Indian restaurant in Leigh on sea no question.

Leigh Tandoori truly deserves 5 🌟 We had an amazing dinner. The best Indian food I have had in a decade. I shall definitely make a trip back to Leigh on Sea to eat at Leigh Tandoori. The staff were excellent!

It is very friendy indian restaurant in leigh on sea, it has an excellent menu and the food is in my opinion the best in all Southend. It is advisable to book in advance because it tends to be busy.

Easily the best in Southend if not further afield. I have been there twice in the past four days. It is becoming an obsession. Dishes you cannot get everywhere like Fish Bhuna excellent.

Our family has been coming to Leigh Tandoori for years because the food never disappoints, the restaurant is cosy and clean, the price is very fair, and the service is respectful and welcoming. If you’re looking for a good night out at a classic Indian restaurant - then you’ve found it!

Been coming here a few years now it’s consistently very good there is a large choice menu there’s the old school pickles/chutney/mint yoghurt/onion spinning pots , Cold Cobra on tap, food is always as expected , good quality meat and fish, breads superb, rice portion could do with being bigger when eating in. Service very good, reasonable prices a full bar, very clean and comfortable it’s a popular Restaurant with a regular and local customer base that’s been around a long time.

Perfect lads night out for an Indian. Thanks to Covid this was a long time coming. We thought we'd try somewhere new and Leigh Tandoori hit the spot for everyone. Shame parking in Leigh is so difficult as we absolutely loved the food here. Will be back in the New Year.

Really marvellous take away! Very impressed with the chicken tikka … actual BBQ taste. Non greasy. Great lamb Bhuna. Very busy indeed on a Fri night so I enjoyed a half Cobra whilst they prepped it.

I've had a takeaway from here a couple of times since I move to the area and it's been OK but nothing to write home about but this evening it was awful...biryani was tasteless with over cooked stodgy rice, accompanying vegetable curry was very watery with little veg apart from a couple of potatoes, half a dozen peas and one green bean, I think there might have been a carrot too. Puppadom was broken into about 50 small pieces and the keema naan looked like it had been in a car crash, mangled with all the filling sitting loose in the bottom of the bag. Probably not going to order from here again. Shame really as its opposite my house. I should also say that there were only two tables dining in and both had already gotten their food. So no excuses. EDIT...The morning after wasn't pretty...definitely never buying food from here again, they must have some serious food safety issues in their kitchen. The EHO need to pay them a visit.

Place was nicely presented and all staff were professional and polite, I feel the rice portion size wasn't enough and the food was just ok. I wasn't blown away to be honest

Always get a good meal here, reliable and dependable always good service nice clean surroundings large menu, mixed grill is great, try the Himalaya lamb tikka if you like it hot, a minor niggle rice portions could be bigger!

Have ordered from here and been in a couple of times. Really nice food and a couple of dishes you don't see many other places- methi chicken for example. Nice kick to the food here, some curry houses locally are a bit mild for us after living in London for so long. Great spicing here though. Staff are great too.

Tandoori starter didnt come on a sizzle plate with onions , small piece chicken came on a cold plate with some grated lettace . Mushroom rice came with very few shrivelled up mushrooms in a small plate . Prawn Buna was just watery and oily...

Food good o no proper beer and only small bottles of cider

The house specials don’t come with rice. The special biriani was dry and not so special! Just comes with chicken and mince! What’s so special about that? Will probably order from the Taj Mahal next time. Very average.

First of all you need to know that opening times are subjective to their whims so dont count on it. Just arrived home with a £13+ take away and found small portions of very mediocre food. The 5 only minute wait should have alerted me to this but hey ho its Friday! Mediocrity at its best: onion bhajees very greasy and not a lot of sauce. NOT to be repeated!

Had a great night there for my wife's 40th birthday. Amazing meal, great value. Nice chaps... Even gave us a nice bottle of prosecco, who gives you a bottle of prosecco these days? We live 161 miles away and believe it or not .We'd come back!!

We went to the Leigh Tandoori with 4 friends and had booked and paid a deposit. The drinks took over 20 minutes to come. I had to ask twice about the food which finally arrived hour and 35 minutes after-we sat down. I had a special which I did not like much, a whole piece of chicken in a green tasteless sauce. The cost was over £210 and I had to ask for the deposit to be taken off the Bill. They were focusing on their take away customers rather than those in their restaurant! I saw plenty of food passing by our table in plastic bags. This was our favourite Indian restaurant in Leigh-on-Sea. We will not be back.

Are here on a Friday night with a friend. Food was excellent - I had a lovely starter then a chicken balti which was lovely. Service fast and efficient. Good value for money - rivals my current favourite Indian in Leigh-on-Sea!!

Although the decor is stuck in the 90's the serving plates have moved into 2018 !!, all new crockery and very nice it is too, really enhances the food items which were also very good, service good, fresh cooked food, nice mixed grill, really tasty with it, and a very welcoming complimentary brandy, cold Cobra on tap, will be using more often.

The best tasting, reasoably priced curry around and we've tried most of the indian restaurants in the area. The staff are so friendly and Tony always stops for a chat if he's not run off his feet. Service can be a bit slow at times as take-away seems more of a priority, but the curry is worth the wait.

A friend and I went there to eat lastnight. Not very impressed due to over one hour waiting for food after being seated. Only two staff working and seeing lots of food to other tables being served and take aways in bags being collected very quickly. Customer service was very poor and also there were no apologies made for the time taken waiting for the food when it arrived and the waiter just walked away after food was on table. Food was good but wont be back there again unfortunately. Didnt enjoy it and didnt feel welcome couldnt wait to leave.

We are big Indian fans, The wife likes it here, I am not so keen, food is ok but its pretty dated along with the interiour could do with revamping the whole outfit inc the vast menu, service ok and there was a complimentary drink which always goes down well, seems its stuck in a time warp, will end up going again no doubt, but certainly not my first choice

Ordered for the first time...... Never again.......! Food looked good on dishing up on plates that we had in the oven...... Naan bread freezing cold, no side dips on an order for £24.55. Really..... check before you order. Absolutely appalling, all we can say. Never again on a 1st order. Do your homework. Be warned. There are better locally in the area. AWARD WINNING on the website ..... Where please.....!!??? What year, if ever, are they telling the truth? I cannot find an award on internet search. 33 reviews, 4.1 stars.

We either eat in or get a takeaway from this restaurant on a far too regular basis. The food is very flavoursome. One minor criticism is if they are busy the food is freshly made and it can take a little bit longer to arrive but well worth the wait. We have used this Indian for the last 20 years and we keep coming back!

Totally average this week. Rude service and fatty lamb shashlick. Off to the Taj next door in future.

Just like the other review I’ve been using this restaurant for many years.

Birthday celebration on 16th March. The restaurant was reasonably busy when we arrived around 9.30 with a number of large tables full of diners.

If you are prepared to wait 1 hour and 20-30mins for food then go ahead and indulge..never known a place to be so bad with wait times. It has never changed despite trying them at random times and days. Last straw now, back to Mughal Dynasty, no food tasting this good is worth that wait, no way. 1/5, 1 being for the food only.

The staff really need to smile more at this restaurant, there are more friendly Indian Diners in Leigh and surrounding - The Shagor in Hamlet Court Road has alot nicer atmosphere!
