Legare in Southwark

One of the best Italian restaurants I have ever been to. Excellent food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere. We were celebrating my 60th birthday and the staff were happy to accommodate my daughter’s decoration. I even got to blow a candle on our dessert cake!

we accidentally came across this place when we were planning dinner after theater at the bridge. We have other reservations with well-known restaurants and well-known chefs, but we did not expect Legare to blow us away! on every dimension – food, service, etc., we agreed this fell into the "one of the best meals" category!

Amazing restaurant! Amazing food/service and wine! This is one of best places we have eaten in London and lately. This is a quaint Italian restaurant that does it right. Alice greeted us warmly and promptly sat us down and was a wonderful host who deftly walked us through our amazing gastronomic experience. We had read the rave reviews and this place delivered. The food is amazing (we had pigs head fritti, white asparagus, ravioli, rigatoni, lamb dish, and of course a lovely Italian wine Fontodi Chianti Classico). My wife and I had such an amazing time that before we knew it 2 + hours had gone by and we had laughed, ate amazing food, and drank a remarkable wine (recommended by Alice, our server and guide for the night). We love to try new places in our travels but do go back to some of our favorites and Legare now is one of our favorites and we look forward to coming back to this gem. Make reservations as the place is small and quaint.. . .you won't regret coming here. We didn't!

I was really looking forward to this but was so disappointed. The meals were tiny and nothing special at all. The waitress warned us as soon as we sat down that we needed to be finished by 8pm and constantly interrupted us during our meal. We were not offered additional drinks. Over all an over rated experience in my view and certainly not good value for money with added service charge.

We have been this restaurant before.We liked.But this time((( This time we went 3 friends on evrenini of april 13th.There was no succesful female chef, which was The reason we chose the restaurant She went abrod for her birthday.A bad and arogant service staff served.Some dishes arrived cold.The risotto I ordered was a complete disaster! A plate of boiled rice came as risotto. If you dont know how to make risotto ,dont serve it! What an amazing venue and team. The character of the FoH team is wonderfully energetic and adds a superb layer to a fantastic menu. All around the plates, flavors, service and atmosphere were to class "Grazie per una splendida serata, ottimo cibo e la tua energia."

I have a client nearby and always suggest that we visit Legare when I attend their offices. Really fantastic food. Everything I've had is delicious; simple and incredibly well-executed fare that let's its quality speak for itself. Nice wine and fun, pleasant service too. Everything is great but in particular they do something special/different with their focaccia... it's addictive!

Excellent meal with outstandingly good service. We were a party of four and we all really enjoyed our experience on a Friday night. I had the scallop starter and risotto main and both were very good and with good sized portions. The Monopolio Gambellara wine was a very nice dry white and at a very good price for a restaurant. We were mainly served by Alice who was extremely attentive and helpful.

This restaurant has to be one of the best restaurants I have ever visited in London. I really could not fault anything. I went with my daughter as her Xmas treat to me after the theatre. The food and drink were superb. We had Burrata, which was just divine, plus parmesan fritters and Foccacia for starters. Yummy! We both had the rissotto with fennel and chilli sausage, which was just perfectly cooked and decent portion sizes. Cannolo finished it off nicely and a glass of chilled Fernet Branca. The service was exemplary. In an age where even mediocre service is hard to come by, this place truly stand out. The manager here (Alice) has to be praised for her manner and attitude and wonderful way with her team of staff. As someone who has trained staff and managers for 25yrs in the hospitality industry, I would say to the owner - DO NOT LOSE HER!! She is such an asset. I will be back for sure.

Had such a great experience at Legare. The restaurant has a chilled but intimate feel (perfect for a date night). The staff were really lovely and went out of their way to accommodate us when we overran our table booking time, and the food was delicious!!! Will be returning :)

Sadly Legare did not live up to our expectations. Maybe last lunch orders wasn’t the best time to go. It was too long before anyone came to the table to take our order. The focaccia was probably the highlight of the meal although the liver was some of the best I have tasted. Brussels with a spiced yogurt sauce were overcooked. Pasta ragu was tasty but luke warm and risotto with clams was bland and overcooked. The polenta cake dessert was a generous portion however the presence of pear and hazelnut was lacking so consequently felt heavy and again rather bland. The meal wasn’t a disaster so didn’t mention the points above to staff although if anyone had bothered asking if we had enjoyed the meal I may have. Spent most of the meal watching as everyone including the chef tried to stem a major leak coming from the toilet. Additionally we had to get up several times on a very cold day to close the front door that was constantly being left open by staff sorting out the leak. This of course was unfortunate but sadly not conducive for a Birthday celebration.

Really enjoyed our visit to Legare. Amazing find and cannot find a fault with any aspect of our visit. Fabulous restaurant, wonderful food and great staff.

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this lovely hidden gem by accident and we couldn't fault it. We had the foccacia and burrata to start, followed by ravioli and spaghetti dishes. Everything was absolutely delicious, and perfectly cooked and seasoned. What made our visit even more memorable was the impeccable service from our waitress, Roya. She was very attentive and took great care of us from start to finish, with so much attention to detail throughout. Her knowledge of the menu and how everything is cooked was particularly impressive. The best customer service I have had in a long time. Thank you Roya. We will definitely be back again.

Amazing find! We visited for the first time and it really is a hidden gem. We enjoyed lunch here on a Saturday and it really was faultless. The restaurant itself is very small and intimate which adds to the charm, you can see the chefs cooking (very relaxed) in the kitchen and it's quite hard to believe such amazing quality food is cooked and prepared in such a small space. The staff are so friendly and really know what they are talking about in terms of the menu choice and wines! We had to start the burrata which was probably one of the best burrata dishes I have ever had and the carpaccio which was really fresh and good quality. For mains we shared a mix of the two pasta dishes that were on offer and they didn't disappoint! The pasta was cooked perfectly and we moped the sauce up with some fresh focaccia bread which was delicious. The staff were so attentive in making sure the food was ok and topping up our glasses. The wine was reasonably priced and we even got to sample some of the house 'orange wine' which was delicious and we had a little lesson on how it's made which was fascinating! Overall we had one of the nicest meals and we can't wait to come back.

Excellent little Italian restaurant tucked away in the maze of cobbled streets this is Shad Thames. Outstanding focaccia while waiting for the first courses which were superb – the onglet beef being particularly good. The main course dishes were the weakest point of the meal, rather too oily (the pasta with sausage meat was very average), but they were still enjoyable – it is only due to this course that the cooking gets 4 rather than 5. Desserts were good and very Italian. The wine we had was excellent and was decent value. Very good espresso to close. Nice, busy atmosphere. Very good service and a very reasonable bill at the end. Thoroughly recommended!

Excellent restaurant. Alice made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. She also went above and beyond to include our young daughter which made her feel very special. Celebrated my daughter’s birthday at Legare last evening. First off, the staff is amazing. Alice walked us through the menu, gave us spot on recommendations for starters, main dishes to share, and finishing desserts. The food was fantastic. Detailed flavors all presented in a stylish but not overly done fashion. Big hits - ravioli verdi with goat cheese, ricotta, and spring veggies. Garganelli pasta with sausage and marscarpone.

Amazing services, everyone was friendly, professional and passionate. Food is equally good. Wish we knew of this restaurant sooner, can't wait to be back
