LeftField in Edinburgh, City of

This was a real treat on a Friday - the ultimate posh takeaway, a takeaway platter of delicious sea food - perfect fresh oysters, crevettes to die for, a sumptuous lobster, juicy mussels, fresh crab, a selection of salmon and more, garnished with plenty of fresh lemon and lime. A real treat… however just one thing - for the money, £70, we did feel the portions could have been a little more generous. EG only four oysters, six crevettes etc.

Thank you Rachael & Phil. Having lunch at your venue was the best choice for celebration. The starters were amazing but the main course of lobster was the best I've ever had & to top it all dessert was the icing on the cake. Perfect venue for celebrating the perfect celebration.

A quick trip to the Burgh to celebrate youngest's latest educational adventure - lookout Dundee! Friendly and welcoming welcome from owner Rachel and extremely well looked after by the helpful and charming Lola. Starters of bread and oil, crispy squid and Chargrilled Asparagus all excellent. Did i mention the excellent cocktail to start? Mains were fantastic and 100% polished off - hake for me (had it three weeks ago, but it's just too good!) - brisket for Mrs K - not her usual bag but deemed "fantastic" - and the daughter had the half lobster - as Mrs K! "Definitely won't have pudding!" The ladies both had the fantastic ice cream from Over Langshaw! Excellent house white for the ladies, a few really good IPAs for me and all is well with the world - great views of the Links and the sun setting on Arthur's Seat. Usual fantastic semi-ambient jazzy soundtrack, tonight's goosebumper being Song to the Siren by This Mortal Coil - apparently not Chef Phil's fave, but his cooking is on a different level. Could never recommend this place highly enough. Pricier than our usual spots, but do you get what you pay for? Does a one-legged duck swim in a circle?

A friend of ours had visited here a while ago and loved it, so when we decided to visit the capital last weekend a table was (eventually) booked. We had been around the Royal Mile earlier and, due to our earlier event over-running somewhat, jumped in a taxi rather than try to speed-walk and be late anyway. Anyone who's read other reviews of mine will know that being late is a pet hate of mine, Anyway.Due to Harry the taxi we were actually early, but we were invited in to sit at our table and were able to relax. Being only two of us, we were seated at the window with a lovely view out over Bruntsfield Links, an excellent backdrop for a wonderful meal. Despite the leaning towards sea-food on the menu, I opted for the 6-hour slow-cooked braised steak with chunky chips; absolutely fell apart under the lightest of touches from my cutlery, and tasted absolutely divine. The chips were, indeed, chunky, and also delicious! My only complaint about that was, I would have liked another two or three on my plate, but hey, I'm greedy at the best of times and there really wouldn't have been room on the plate!Herself opted for the half-lobster and, when it arrived, I almost wished I had too! Exquisitely cooked and presented, with (I was told!) a gorgeous sauce AND prawns on top, well, a seafood lovers' dream to be sure. There was only shell left at the end, which says it al really. Oh, we didn't have starters by the way, we often don't, so you haven't missed anything! We DID partake of some bread with (olive) oil though, which was just enough to take the edge off our appetites (in a good way). Dessert often flatters to deceive by description in many place, but not here. Herself thoroughly enjoyed the dark chocolate mousse, and my affogato (never had this before, will again!) was a delight. When, not if we go again, I'll definitely try the cheeseboard; having read some other reviews, that would round of the meal perfectly for me. So overall we had an utterly wonderful time. Our waitress was a delight, the lady who welcomed us (I think, the owner) did so with a very pleasant and kind manner, all-in-all a thoroughly lovely place to be. Any down sides? Well there always is, but in this case limited to what is also one of he best things about it; the compactness. Only five (if I recall correctly) well-spaced tables, but if there were more I think the room would then feel far too crowded and cramped. They've got it just right, in my opinion at least.Oh, nearly forgot the drinks! Herself opted for a small cocktail, whereas I decided on a half-carafe of red. As I suspect you have come to expect if you've managed through this novella so far, the drinks were delicious, and the price was more than reasonable. Utterly delightful experience in every way, and we will definitely be back!

Our first visit and we will return.The food is really well thought out and presented with a great choice of fish and seafood starters and main courses. We had desserts too as they sounded so good and they were.We both sat a at table with a wonderful over the Meadows and to Arthur's seat. Not many restaurants in Edinburgh can compete with the view!

We had enjoyed several seafood platters during the lockdowns. Now that we were able to eat out locally, Leftfield was one of our list. We enjoyed a fabulous meal on Friday evening 25 th June. We were a table of 4. The ambience was perfect and we were delighted to meet Rachael in real life too!. The food does not disappoint. The crispy squid is to die for as was the lobster with chunky chips. Portions are generous. Alas no decaff coffee to have with biscuits and cheese, the peppermint tea sufficed. Looking forward to my next visit, hope the squid and lobster are on the menu!.

We really enjoyed our seafood platter on Saturday night. So fresh. Starter of squid was off the scale and to finish our desserts and cheese plate were delicious and generous. We will definitely return and can't quite believe this gem of a restaurant has been under our noses in Bruntsfield in Edinburgh.

Food and service were fabulous. Definitely going back. One of our favourite places to go. All felt relaxed and safe re Covid restrictions too.

My wife and I went for a lovely late dinner, the delicious food, lovely staff and relaxed ambiance were just delightful. We could not recommend this wonderful local bistro enough.

Lovely meal for 2 in this tiny little Bistro overlooking Bruntsfield Links. All the food was delicious and the service was excellent. If I had any criticism it was that the wine choice was pretty expensive - nice though and that certainly didn’t spoil the evening

First time out as a couple with restaurants reopening. Greeted warmly at the door and set a nice personal tone for the evening. We orders the Squid and Oysters to start and were blown away and how fresh and lovely both starters were. Mains only added to this with myself ordering the lobster and partner the brisket. Think we both agreed we have reached food heaven. Desserts top it all off for us and we were stuff and without a care in the world. Very reasonable priced too when we got the bill. Just want to say thank you again to everyone who made our first time out together wonderful and a unforgettable night. We are already talking about when we will be back.

We booked Leftfield for a birthday treat as the food looked excellent! They did not disappoint! We really enjoyed our lunch. Lovely restaurant, lovely staff and great atmosphere. would recommend.

Leftfield was one of the very first restaurants I visited after the latest lifting of restrictions. The things I loved about it before this awful pandemic were all still there: gorgeous views, a genuine and warm welcome, delicious food. It’s one of those places that has become associated with so many happy memories, it’s hard to think of anywhere else I’d rather eat.

My daughter needed a tailor made Birthday experience after the lockdown and where else but LeftField? The last time was the MSc Gastronomy students' graduation celebration where the food and wine astonished us. This visit did not disappoint. We booked an indoors table for our lunch; at the last minute we decided to sit outdoors so that we could enjoy their lovely wine. And the seafood, because that was what we were in the mood for, was absolutely perfect cooked, such a perfect foodie experience supplemented by the lovely owner and her daughter with just the right amount of food suggestion and chat.

We enjoyed a fabulous birthday lunch with 'mock'tails including a very luscious 'fake' reisling! It is a very small restaurant yet attention to customer safety is 5*; the three tables are extremely well distanced ( more than 2m apart) and hand sanitiser available as you enter. Rachel ( owner) greeted us like long lost friends (masked) and made us feel at home. All dishes were passed too us on a tray for us to take ourselves and a safe distance was kept at all times.Having loved the best we have ever take-home seafood platters expectation was therefore high; it was a delight to be in-house eating a different menu. We were not disappointed.A super short menu, varied locally sourced produce cooked with imagination. We enjoyed slow-cooked beef brisket with parmesan chips and truffle oil and hake in a chorizo and chickpea broth. Roast plum pavlova/orange curd accompanied with strong espresso coffee to finish made for a memorable birthday lunch.Thank you Rachel and Phil; so good we are booked again next weekend!

We (family of 3) ate here for lunch today, and it was our first meal out since February. We had been a bit nervous about eating out but were aware of the high standards at Leftfield so this was an easy choice to make. Three tables are extremely well distanced (beyond the 1m Id say) and hand sanitiser available as you enter etc, the covid signage was clear but not imposing, and the place immaculate (Rachel masked and kept a distance when we ordered). The menus are on chalk boards so no handling of menus either.Oh the FOOD! Its out of this world! A beef brisket so tender you barely needed teeth to chew it, with lovely parmesan chips and truffle oil. Then we had the dark chocolate mousse for afters. All washed down with a lovely non alcoholic wine.A truly first class and totally relaxing dining experience. We will be back!

We were disappointed that Leftfield had to close and we couldn't visit in person for our wedding anniversary. However, we ordered the take-home seafood platter and it was easily the best restaurant food I've ever eaten at home. A lot of thought has gone into a menu that hardly suffers at all from being collected (although we all miss the genuine restaurant atmosphere) and the portions are extremely generous.

My favourite restaurant in town! Great food of course, lovely people, fantastic atmosphere, good tunes and very interesting list of organic, biodynamic and natural delicious wines.

El mejor lugar con un personal atento, excelente comida en un ambiente humilde e informal. La comida era fresca, sin pretensiones, limpia, y lo recomendaría. El menú no es enorme, pero está bien, ya que la selección fue bien pensada, la comida es sabrosa pero creativa. Pequeño lugar encantador y siempre me encanta apoyar a los locales.

Pleasant evening spent in a cosy restaurant overlooking the Bruntsfield Links. Friendly personal service. Lind and lime gin to set things off and a very tasty steak. Well worth the visit!

Quiet ambience and very friendly waitress. Main course of beef short rib was a disappointment. Three of us had this on the recommendation of the waitress as there was only one steak left. But there was very little meat on the short rib - it was mostly fat - and there was no offer of extra vegetables, even as a side dish at additional cost. The only nod in this direction was a small clump of watercress. Starter and dessert were nice though. And the prices seemed high for an out-of-town-centre bistro.

We had the whole place for a birthday party. Rachel and her family were fantastic and organised a vegetarian menu specially for the party. The food itself was absolutely delicious and the presentation was first rate! Thank you from our whole family. We can’t recommend LeftField highly enough!

We had an amazing vegetarian meal here for a birthday. Rachel couldn't have been more lovely and the food was DELICIOUS! Highly, highly recommend.

A compact menu in a cosy, chic venue. Popped in on the off chance and so pleased we didn't walk by.Very warm and friendly welcome, the food was outstanding. Quite possibly the best 3 courses I've ever eaten!Hot smoked salmon was delicious, the 6 hour short rib was incredible, the sauce that it was in was fantastic. Dark chocolate mousse with honeycomb and honeyed figs was better with every mouthful. My partner had squid, which was perfectly cooked, hake and peppers which was very light and flavour some and poached pear with roasted plum and mango sorbet which was very fragrant and light. Prices are very reasonable given the quality of the food and I'm now looking for excuses to visit Edinburgh again to pop in and see what else the menu has to offer!

Comí en LeftField con un grupo grande (reservamos todo el resaturante) a principios de diciembre de 2019. Antes de ir al restaurante, le envié al equipo mi lista de alergias / alimentos seguros, lo cual es inusual y complejo (alergias a benzoato, cinamaldehído y ácido propiónico). ¡Produjeron una comida absolutamente maravillosa para mí y, lo que es más importante, no desencadenaron ninguna de mis alergias!El personal estaba muy contento de satisfacer mis necesidades dietéticas y dijo que realmente quieren permitir que las personas con alergias puedan comer fuera de forma segura. Espero volver a LeftField pronto, ya que estoy seguro de que podrán mantenerme a salvo y bien alimentados con deliciosos productos locales de temporada.El restaurante es bastante pequeño, lo que le da un ambiente acogedor y familiar y un ambiente realmente encantador. 3 of us had a delicious Sunday lunch and found the food excellent, the service lovely and overall had an absolutely perfect visit to Leftfield. Would highly recommend and will definitely visit again.

We had a lovely evening at Leftfield. It was sunny outside which made the view across Bruntsfield links and over to Arthur's seat even better. I don't eat meat and can sometimes feel a bit disappointed by lack of choice on a menu, but not here. There were interesting vegetarian choices and lots of fish and seafood. The food was delicious- interesting and perfectly cooked. Really tasty. I haven't enjoyed a meal this much in a while. The restaurant is simply furnished but had a nice ambience. Lovely friendly staff too. I particularly enjoyed the Hake on chickpea tagine. The fish was cooked to perfection. This place is a hidden gem and well worth a visit.

Always like trying new places around Edinburgh and our visit didn’t disappoint. It’s a small quirky setting with great views across links/meadows toward Arthur’s Seat and crags. Food was really good, thoroughly enjoyed starter and main. Didn’t go pudding but what was being delivered to other tables looked great.

This is a tiny welcoming restaurant on the edge of Bruntsfield Links with lovely views out towards Arthur’s Seat. The focaccia and oil was very good. Was disappointed that the langoustines had just sold out but the Scottish mussels were good. Recommend the flat peach dessert. Friendly service too.

Visited for dinner and had a mixed experience.

Restaurant booked just for us as surprise birthday lunch for friend. Each course was excellent and the wine especially the red really good. As there were so many of us we had to choose our courses before but that was excellent in that on the day the service was fast and efficient. Staff really friendly and itching was a problem for them.

We were a group of 19 mums on an end of school term night out, and from the planning to the evening, Rachel and her team could not have been better! Lovely to deal with and every detail was thought of. The food was absolutely first class, fresh and beautifully presented. The service too friendly and attentive (but not OTT). Just faultless!

We were here for a family and friends reunion which counted 12 adults in total on 04.05.2019. The staff were really friendly, attentive and helpful with menu and drinks selection. Although a big group in a small restaurant the chef and waiting staff were very good and the food catered for varying tastes including vegetarian, fish and those preferring traditional fare. All the food was very tasty and everyone was very happy with their meal. Would recommend and will definitely be back either as a small or large group,

We had dinner here for four last weekend. The food was incredible, a diverse menu and fantastic plates! Our waitress, Ella, was also amazing, very attentive and bubbly. I would defiantly recommend a trip to LeftFeild, the small space makes for a cosy atmosphere and the views of the Meadows are also lovely. 5 stars- will be back!

Tiny, informal, delicious. Food was perfect; generous portions, attention to detail and utterly scrumptious.

After hearing good things a friend and I visited last Saturday. Small restaurant with only 5-6 tables so definitely book ahead. Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Food was exceptionally good and we couldn’t believe how reasonable the bill was!! Can’t go wait to go back!

We ate here on the last day of our trip to Edinburgh and it was fantastic. Starters, mains and desert were beautiful and accompanied by lovely wine, gins and liquors. I had the langoustine and it was delicious! Thank you for looking after us so well and for a fabulous meal!

We were at the Leftfield for a family event and it was excellent from start to finish. We preordered Sunday lunch for 22 and the food and service was exceptional. Organising the event with the proprietors prior to the actual day was very smooth. We were warmly welcomed and the staff were both relaxed and friendly at the same time as being very professional providing attentive service throughout. The children were also welcomed and made to feel part of the day - even having their food cut up for them by the staff, which went above and beyond what was expected. The food was excellent with everyone commenting on how delicious their dishes were. Overall I couldn't recommend it strongly enough - excellent, service, food and context. Beautiful view too. Thank you Leftfield for an unforgettable Sunday lunch!

Love this place so much we spent New Year’s Eve here. Fantastic food, service and atmosphere. Phil and Rachel make every visit special. Lovely organic prosecco to start My charred brocolli with feta and red pesto was spectacular starter. Genius. Best fillet steaks ever with a lovely spicy sauce. New house red recommended went perfectly with steaks. Watched fireworks on the meadows after dinner. Perfect night thank you.

Our 9 book club members had our Xmas outing here. We pre-ordered and none of us was disappointed. Delicious food, great service and well worth going back!

We ate as a party of 14 and were asked to pre-order to speed up service on the night. What we didn't realise was that everyone had to pre-order dessert too. After we had finished the main course some of the party wanted dessert but were told we could not order it on the night. Where does this? Surely they could have offered a small selection or even one dish for dessert?

There were 18 of us who all dined here. The food was top quality and the staff tended to all of our needs. Would def visit again

I had been dropping hints for a while about Leftfield to my partner, after reading good things about this restaurant. My wonderful partner booked a table for dinner on a Friday evening after spending a wonderful day in the east coast. We arrived to an empty restaurant and secured the best table in the house at the window. The restaurant quickly filled and we enjoyed people watching and the wonderful views from the window overlooking the links, people dog walking and playing pitch and putt. while enjoying our bottle of chilled prosecco, my partner also enjoyed a well deserved IPA, Tiny Rebel, I absolutely love to see my partner enjoy a good IPA. We shared 2 starters, the crispy fried squid and the oysters. Both were absolutely fantastic, and so fresh, we were off to a good start. My partner enjoyed his ribeye steak, cooked to perfection, and my hake was really enjoyable. I love this wee restaurant. Staff are friendly and they obviously have a very good chef. I would definitely recommend this wee gem. A wonderful experience.

Went for an early evening meal with my wife. Friendly husband and wife team. Really good menu we opted for the rib eye perfectly cooked with excellent chips. My wife had the chicken again very nice. Fantastic rioja which went well with the steak. Shared a dessert. Sensible pricing and an enjoyable experience.

Really enjoyed our visit for a birthday dinner. Easy to miss but worth the effort to find it. Book as even on a quiet week night it was almost full by 8.30. Small but beautifully cooked menu - we had the slow cooked beef and a fillet steak which were excellent. Friendly and efficient service and we will definitely be back.

We arrived at Leftfield a little early but were ushered in and welcomed by front of house staff, water and menus appeared in seconds, wine a few moments later. This is a small restaurant big on service and quality it is not a stuffy hushed place but a vibrant little spot relaxed and welcoming. The food was produced quickly and was delicious all four of us agreeing that everything we ate was of the best quality and expertly cooked and presented. However I will not say what we had or what we liked, taste is something you have to experience yourself and you should make your way to Leftfield as soon as possible to see what you think. It ranks 300 and something on the Tripadvisor site but don't let that influence your choice. If you have a party of 40 forget it the place is too small, if you are wanting to go somewhere with some friends and enjoy dinner or lunch, in a restaurant with exemplary service and food, then get on the phone and book because it is a popular spot. Enjoy!!!

Ate here last weekend between shows at the Festival - and so glad we did!

This is a small (make reservations in advance) restaurant with a limited but widely varied menu - the three of us had chicken, seafood, and vegetarian entrees. Charming, beautiful view of the Bruntsfield Links, with people playing golf, dogs playing in the distance, and very quiet and pleasant inside. Food was excellent and perhaps the healthiest of the 2 weeks of (too many) meals. The vegetarian entrée (a charred cauliflower dish) was superb. Unpretentious but nice table settings, cozy, great combination of excellent kitchen with reasonable prices. Would definitely come back.

Reasonable quality and price. 4 adults and 2 teens enjoyed the steaks and seafood. A good family choice.

Dined here last night with friends - truly a wee gem. We had a warm welcome and were attentively looked after the whole evening. The food was absolutely amazing - each of us had difficulty choosing as we wantsed to try everything. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing and the view of Bruntlinks and Arthur Seat is spectacular. Delighted to have found this gem of a restaurant right on our doorstep - already booked up to return .Thank you for a wonderful dining experience.

Leftfield is a top restaurant, one that I am pleased to have finally visited. It was my birthday and 4 of us booked to go here, as it local to us, turns out my friends knew the owner and it was just so incredibly friendly.

Visited LeftField for a leisurely Sunday lunch. We shared a delicious platter with chargrilled veg, olives, feta, divine hummus, sliced cucumber and avocado to start. Disappointingly, the 6hr slow cooked beef wasn't available, so we opted for chicken with mango and avocado and sea bass. Both were thoroughly enjoyable - the chicken was especially moist and and the mango a perfect accompaniment. For wine, we chose the Argentinian Malbec and it too was very moreish. Dessert was a no brainer - Sticky Toffee Pud! I hadn't noticed that there was a cheese option on the blackboard behind me as I'd have had that. It wasn't on the dessert menu. Very relaxing atmosphere with unobtrusive waitress. Great place for a catch up over first class food.

What a find. A calm and light atmosphere in the restaurant, charming staff and delicious flavours. Serving sizes just right.

Ground floor restaurant is very small (at a guess seating <20?) but there is a small cellar function room and, according to its website, a larger upstairs one. Charming daughter served whilst father cooked well from a small and simple menu. Very willing to make sandwiches for grandsons and very moderately charged. Adults had the 3 course fixed-price menu.

Had an amazing meal with family at LeftField - food is incredible and the staff are excellent! Amazing.

We had a Wednesday evening meal at Leftfield on a fairly busy evening although perhaps a couple of tables were empty. There was a nice atmosphere to the place and while the venue is small we didn't feel too close to other tables (which had been my worry) and the staff were very welcoming and friendly throughout the evening.

We had early evening dinner and appreciated the nice cosy but bright interior with view of the park. Delicious and creative starter and deserts.

Hidden gem. Very small, supercute place with lovely view away from the crowds. Food is great, but tiny portions.

When you discover a little gem of a place like LeftField you selfishly want to keep it yourself but when it's as good as Leftfield, it's too good to keep quiet. It's a young business that is obviously doing things right - as they've just won the List Readers Award 2018 - a great accolade. I visited after food bloggers the Social B*tches gave it a great review and it was that good I went twice in one week, Oh and that 6=hour cooked beef shin is something else!

A really lovely place to eat. Great food high quality and lovely service., deserves everyone's support. Great organic Prosecco and fab squid .

Had been fancying this place for a while. The location and views are great, as is the ambience and service. However, the food was unfortunately not up to scratch. The rib of beef (which should be the star of the show) was surprisingly bland and half the fish we were served was very burnt (on the bottom). Although we were given a free dessert after highlighting this, I really was expecting much better from this place. A real shame.

This new restaurant had an attractive, friendly, laid-back ambience, and the food was generally very good. The appetizers were excellent. The other two in the party had a steak, which they enjoyed. My beef short rib was a bit fatty, but that is probably to be expected. The best part though was the chocolate ganache cake, with spun sugar decoration, that the chef specially made for my son's birthday. This is the kind of thing that a good chef can whip up for a special occasion, and earns the restaurant top marks.

We spent a lovely evening at the award winning LeftField tonight, with a colleague who was visiting us from the US. I have been once before and this visit was as excellent as my first! We had a range of items from the menu (loch fyne oysters, vegetable pakora, smoked haddock, chargrilled chicken) .. all prepared to perfection, beautifully presented and delicious! We had a delightful organic Pinot Grigio too which we would highly recommend. For dessert we had the flourless chocolate cake, lemon tart, affogato and coffee/tea - no one was disappointed!

My wife and two grown up daughters went to Left Field for lunch on Sunday 15th. We had pre-ordered the seafood platter for four.

We were here for a special birthday celebration and everyone had a great night. This was my third visit and the food was just as good as previously - still the best steak I have had. We had a younger, fussier eater who was excellently catered for with an off menu starter of garlic bread and a modified burger main.

My family took me here as a birthday treat! This is my 2nd visit to Left Field. The service again was excellent and the food was amazing. I had the Pumkin Seed Humous served with Butternut Squash as a starter and had a medium rare rib eye steak. They even went out of their way to cater for my granddaughter who was disappointed that there was no garlic bread on the menu! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Lovely homely atmosphere!

I have visited LeftFeild on a number of occasions now since its opening and am yet to be anything but delighted with both my meal and the service that came along with it. My first visit was for a relaxed Sunday lunch with the family and it was absolutely wonderful. My father, who is from Yorkshire might I add, said that his roast dinner was the best he had ever eaten, which is really saying something!!! After experiencing the calm, welcoming atmosphere, gorgeous food, and great prices to go along with it, LeftFeild has now been the place to go with me and my friends/family for the perfect dinner catch up. We love it.

Stopped into LeftField for a reserved dinner on a very rainy Saturday night. Found a little haven of peace and quiet away from the noisy rugby crowd around the corner. We had pre-booked the Seafood Platter (as you must) for our planned main. We contemplated getting a starter, but having been told what was to come, we held off. WHAT A SEAFOOD EXTRAVAGANZA that arrived at our table. I think I heard the table groan under the weight. You name it....it was there. Lobster,crab,prawns,”spoots”,scallops and assorted other shellfish. A great accompaniment to a bottle of Organic prosecco. Every item cooked,steamed, or grilled to perfection. Service was attentive, but not overbearing in the intimate venue. We will definitely be back.

We went here for our work Xmas lunch. There were enough of us that we had the entire place to ourselves. They also organised a fantastic wine tasting before lunch with their supplier which was a hoot with the most French French person I have ever met! Zoot allors! Most people had the steak which everyone agreed was great but all the food was top class and the service warm and welcoming.

We visited on a Sunday with our youngest daughter (8yrs) and my parents, following a recommendation from friends. My father was a butcher in his younger days and I have never seen him or my mother order steak in a restaurant and it end well. However to my delight, they were both very happy with their ribeye and chips (served with perfectly poached egg). The vegetarian options were delicious and I was spoiled for choice, not a scrap of food was left on anyone’s plate at the end of the meal. The lunch menu is excellent value at around £20 for 3 courses, including a generous cheese course option (with no additional supplement). Beautiful setting and hospitable service, but the real asset is whomever they have tucked away in the kitchen. We will definitely be back!

Menu is fantastic in quality and value. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food, from fish to meat, and of course, puddings. Good drink selection as well.

Went to Leftfield as part of a work Christmas lunch (there were 16 of us). It was perfect in every way. Service was efficient but also friendly and informal. The food was excellent. The restaurant has a lovely view of the golf course. All in all, I couldn’t have hoped for a better afternoon. Leftfield is great for group occasions but would also be perfect for a casual meal with friends or a celebratory meal. Could not recommend it more.

A huge thank you to LeftField for making our annual Festive Lunch such a wonderful experience. We were fortunate to book the entire restaurant for a party of 20 and everyone thoroughly enjoyed both the spectacular food and the warm and relaxing atmosphere. A huge thank you to Rachel and Phil for exceptional service, beautiful wine selection and an absolutely superb Festive Menu which was both delicious and beautifully presented - in my opinion, far removed from the normal festive fayre. We enjoyed it so much, we didn't want to leave!

I went to LeftField for Sunday lunch with family. The location is excellent, with a light but cosy dining room looking out over Bruntsfield Links. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed, the service is good, and there are plenty of interesting choices on the menu.

I have been lucky enough to visit LeftField twice recently. Once for Sunday lunch, on a beautiful sunny afternoon with a great view over the Meadows, the food was delicious with a great atmosphere and attentive service. Each of the three courses were a blend of intriguing flavours with a creative touch. Also, there is a great selection of wines. My second visit was for a work lunch which did not disappoint. Again, we were treated to a relaxed environment and fantastic menu choices. The lemon tart is a great treat! Will be back.

The best atmosphere and ambiance for a relaxed evening! Waitress was so lovely and attentive. The meal was amazing and desserts were divine (yes I had more than one)! I recommend this restaurant to all my friends and honestly can't stop raving about it! Don't think twice, just go!

My friend and I had dinner here after work and what a lovely restaurant! We had the most DELICIOUS (fillet) steaks which were cooked to perfection and melt in the mouth! They came with chips (offer of new pots was made too) and a lil salad. We then opted for the lemon tart which was, again, just sublime - and beautifully presented.

Amazing sunday roast and the starter of focaccia bread with avocado and Brussels sprouts was outstanding. Nice little gem tucked away in a residential area and well worth the trip. Recommend the squash soup with cinnamon too.

Lovely lunch in a nice setting with friendly service. 2 course lunch for £12 and 3 course for £16. Lovely views across meadows. Nice food as well as being attractively presented.

We were down in Edinburgh to see our youngest son and by chance happened to pass the Leftfield restaurant. The food was excellant and freshly cooked. Between us we had two chicken dishes and one hamburger. Great service and we will be back.

We visited here prior to going to the Kings. Lovely restaurant, small quirky room, menu is small (not a bad thing). My husband had soup and chicken and I had the vegetable pakora and a sirloin steak. Beautifully cooked, just the way I asked, and so tender... steak came with fries and a salad, but other mains came without veg, which was extra. Only complaint was that vegetables were an extra cost, a practice which is sadly making a return. Staff very friendly. Well worth a visit

I live out of town, but have visited Leftfield several times with friends, for festival lunch, and for post theatre dinner.

We had a lovely meal - best rump steak ever had - nice atmosphere and very welcoming. Good choice on menu and will definitely go back.

We were the first group to use the private room at Leftfield for a graduation meal for our son. Katies Diner had an awesome reputation so we were a bit apprehensive as to what to expect. However any concerns were swept away by the friendliness, warm welcome of the staff and the quality of the food. Everything was fresh, hot and full of flavour. We will definitely be returning and would urge others to pop along for excellent food in homely surroundings.

We were sad when Katie's was no more (Geoff and Katie retiring) and wondered whether the steaks at LeftField would be as good .... we need not have worried! LeftField is using the same meat supplier and our steaks were cooked to perfection.

Phil and Rachel have taken the excellent Katie’s Diner to another level, The name may have changed but the updated decor still creates a familiar relaxing ambience.

A cosy local restaurant, good service and food. Limited menu with specials of fresh produce. Unpretentious.

We have been there several times now, and have tried almost everything in the menu. The food is absolutely delicious, and cooked to perfection. The wine selection is carefully picked to complement the dishes. This is a family owned restaurant. The service and atmosphere is very friendly.

This was our first visit to LeftField; We were pleased to learn that the owners had previously worked together at one of our old favourite restaurants, the Atrium. We've been hoping for a good local restaurant for a while and they didn't disappoint. The service wa friendly and efficient and the food was excellent. My wife had the sea bass special and I had a steak. Both perfectly cooked. We'll certainly be going back.

Left Field is run by a very friendly couple. We live locally and had not realised that Katie's Diner had transformed! And what a transformation! Inventive and flavoursome dishes- we had the special of the day, hake with a mint, fennel and courgette salad! Good value for money (under £50 for drinks, meal for two,coffees and a shared dessert) and lovely attentive service! Steaks a speciality and fish, desserts to die for! We will be back!
