Le Spice in East Cambridgeshire

We visited the Tuesday Banquet and it was fantastic, pretty much everything on the menu could be chosen with a £3 surcharge for prawns or fish as I recall, The banquet included two poppadoms each with the pickle tray, had a mixed starter with both meat and bhajis all of which were superb, I chose a pathia with mushroom rice and had a naan instead of a side and everything was super tasty and cooked to perfection. They have a very good IPA on tap called Bombay Bicycle which was a new one to me and washed the curry down perfectly.On top of great food the staff are all very friendly and efficient, you cant really ask for more for £15

Absolutely lovely meal. One of the best Indian meals we’ve had in a long time. Service was good and owner very friendly and helpful. We hope to go back when we next visit Ely.

We have been coming to Le Spice as our restaurant of choice in Ely for many years. The owner is so friendly and welcoming and the food is amazing. Tuesday night’s buffet is superb value for money. There are a large number of regulars which says how high the standard of food and service are. Wouldn’t go anywhere else for a curry.

Had dinner here on a weekend break to Ely. Absolutely wonderful meal! I am from Manchester and there’s a lot of choice back home for Indian cuisine but this was a standout visit. The place is buzzing with a great atmosphere, the staff are fabulous and the menu is delightful. Lots of dishes we hadn’t tried before so we got stuck in with something different and it was all delicious! Totally recommend you try it. Also noticed that quite a few of the customers were obviously regular visitors who were well known to the staff, a good sign of a great place to eat if ever there was one. Ely is a very small city (3rd smallest in UK I believe) but it gets a lot of tourists like myself due to its rich history. Having such firm local patronage is a testament to the quality of food and service.

Unfriendly staff, as if they were reluctant to speak. Curry was lacking in flavour, no atmosphere due to being almost empty, nothing positive to say, wouldn’t go back.

Wow! Hadn't booked but the staff still managed to find us a table. Service from the staff was perfect - friendly and efficient. Food was delicious. Overall perfect! If we were local we would definitely be regular customers!

Food was excellent. Only criticism would be portion sizes a bit small. Had one of the chef specials which was superb.

Written description varied from actuality - Biryani rice a Balti rice with pack of frozen vegetables added. Had not tried Bicycle Beer before, not a good flavour with Indian cuisine. Disappointing experience.

The Worst. aged 60’this was the worst Indian I’ve ever had. Flashy restaurant and staff bur food dry and rubbish avoid at all costs

Portions were very small so it was over priced for what we received. 1.5 hour wait for the food, had to ask 3 times for some water before it arrived 30+ mins after our first request. And the restaurant has too many settings for its size so it’s noisy and cramped

I had a very enjoyable meal here with family and friends, the food was great and the atmosphere couldn’t have been better. The manager and staff were very nice and when I’m in Ely again I hope to come again.

Manager Amin, his Chef and his front of house man, Misael, maintained the standards that I have come to expect. Service excellent and food delicious. What I particularly like is Le Spice's focus on making sure the diners are looked after. It's why many people I know in Ely continue to choose it as their curry house of choice

The staff are that good at what they do they know if you need to be left alone or if you need service.The food is that good you’ll struggle to find a rival within 50 miles including Cambridge. I would go as far to say this restaurant including the kitchen and their front of house team as one, is the best you will find around here, they really do know what they’re doing and I would encourage any one to experience what they have to offer! I’ve dined here more than a few times and they really do deserve recognition for what they do!

Very disappointing Indian takeaway. Very oily dhansak. Very buttery biriani when we requested no dairy in the meal. It was also just rice and some veg- no fruit or almonds or spices. Everything else was mediocre.

Popped by Le Spice at around 2030 asking for my favourite (garlic chilli chicken and mushroom rice) as a takeaway. The superb owner, Amin agreed a time and this was spot on. A short walk home and this amazing dish was still hot. Do not miss the chance to try their garlic chilli chicken!

On a weekend visit 14/5/21 we had a 5* takeout from this very friendly very clean (they were on a super charged deep clean) Monday ready re-opening, my online order would not proceed being close by I called in to place my order for 17.30pm and paid. The very beautifully mannered man who took my order was so charming and polite and glad I had pointed out he may have internet fault made sure that @ exactly 17.30 my collection was in my grip. A fantastic meal for 4 with all the trimmings was FABULOUS! Thank you Le Spice it made a wet getaway weekend in Ely shine

This evening I ordered takeaways to be delivered to my parents and to me and the family: easy and friendly booking, the takeaway arrived in good time and was still very warm. My parents had a Dansak each: one lamb, the other chicken, and perfect with the mushroom rice. They also had bread, poppadoms and saag aloo. All superb I’m told. I had the garlic chilli chicken (their best dish in my view), my wife had the tandoori chicken biryani, and the boys had Dansaks. It was all amazing. Can’t fault the service, quality of food or the price. DO order a takeaway! When the rules around the pandemic allow it, do go and eat there! Thank you, Amin and Le Spice!

LeSpice is a definite favourite of ours. The boys in the restaurant are amazing and very professional. They always make us feel welcome, and the food is consistently great. All that we have had has been splendid, but try the mixed grill, wonderful, delicious. They have made such an effort to ensure Covid19 SARS safety, it is much appreciated.Well done you lot!

Last week we had the most delicious food delivered to the door! Restaurant quality dishes in lockdown. Brilliant.

We are visiting Ely and decided to eat at Le Spice. We had a lovely meal there. It was Tuesday night so we had the Tuesday Night meal package. It was lovely and great value. It was a perfect amount of food. The chicken tikka masala was the best I've had in a long time. Very flavourful and tasty.Staff were friendly and following all Covid guidelines. Would definitely visit again if I came back to Ely.

Another really tasty pair of dishes for us at this friendly and covid-safe restaurant. We ate early (5pm) because it allows the table to be used for a 2nd sitting while the 10pm curfew operates. Amin and his staff were very welcoming, and the food was up to its usual excellent standard. Despite the Tripadvisor into saying they are only serving take-aways and deliveries, the restaurant is fully open, so treat yourself to some great food at a very sensible price.

Le Spice have taken the pandemic very seriously, with the track and trace app being used, hand gel on arrival, partitions between tables and staff wearing face coverings. The chicken chilli garlic was amazing as usual. All good!

Holidaying near Ely we visited Le Spice for our evening meal on Thursday, living in Leeds we are no stranger to a good curry and this I would rate as one of the best places I have eaten (outside Leeds) for some considerable time. All dishes were very tasty, starters were great, pickle tray slightly different, but very good. Absolutely spotless and very aware of all social distancing. Staff were brilliant with us, very welcoming and friendly. We will certainly return next year,wish we lived nearer, we would be there. Take away was very busy too. I had a mango juice as I was driving, absolutely fabulous.

Have been going to Le Spice for years now. Friendly and welcoming atmosphere, wonderful live music on a Saturday night. By far the best indian restaurant in the area! The restaurant feels safe and clean and the food is exceptional! Would definitely recommend.

Ordered a takeaway to be delivered, which Le Spice excellent at: pandemic lockdown or not. My sons had something mild and I had my favourite: garlic chilli chicken.It arrived in good time and still hot. Do support Le Spice during the pandemic and beyond. Best curry in Ely.

Dreadful portion size was nothing but scandalous. I had read previous reviews and thought I had got to the wrong place when I opened the dishes. So so disappointed. Tasteless and bland food. I’ve been mugged and won’t be back. Don’t want to even spend anymore time trying to explain how bad this was.

we ordered takeaway tonight, a selection of dishes delivered to our door (even during the current pandemic) The food arrived in good time,, delivery driver rang the bell and left the food on the doorstep.Everything was fantastic.... the curries, rices, naan and poppadoms were fresh, tasty and piping hot! We have eaten in the restaurant several times and have never been disapointed.Due to the Covid-19 rules we had a take out ordered over the internet the food was ready on time for colllection and was delicious as usual.

Called and ordered meal for three!Picked up from restaurant, where they are keeping to socially distancing protocols. Had a brilliant meal at home in the garden, safe and well nourished. We ordered a meal to be delivered tonight, 3 hours later it arrived. We were a bit cross because my 6 year old grandson stayed up very late because of this. The man who dropped it off offered it to us for free and I told him that if the food was okay, I would still order again because of how apologetic he was. The food was amazing and one of the best takeaways we have had for a long time. I would highly recommend the food from here and am definitely going to give them another go. Please don’t let the lateness put you off and I think that with the current situation, they did really well considering

We ordered a meal for 5 as a takeaway given that restaurants have closed. The menu is extensive and you can order on line. They will make any veggie dish vegan on request. The food arrived promptly and well packaged. On the whole it was a pleasant meal but not outstanding.

Tuesday nights special deal is a must. Great tasting curry , starters, main side or rice and a naan bread. Top marks with friendly service.

I know that I often write a review about Le Spice. The fact is they deserve all the praise they get. I often go out on a Tuesday night, as this is "special night" so why wouldn't you? I go with friends, or with family. I cannot fault the food and the amazing, professional service. It really is excellent. You should try it! However, don't book my favourite table!

Visited here with a big group of friends and the food was excellent. Service was very good and as there was a large group they explained there would be a little wait, but it was worth it.

We went without booking last Friday night. Absolutely fantastic restuarant. The staff were really friendly and not in any way pushy. The menu was highly varied although in fact we opted for more traditional dishes. Poppadum which were fresh and crisp with a good quality fresh pickle dish, Lamb Dhansak, Chicken Ceylon, Two vegetable dishes, rice and nan. Also Cobra beers. The sauces on the dishes were superb and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. So fresh and tasty. The toilets were really clean, the restuarant itself roomy and uncluttered. The bill was really cheap. We have been visiting Indian restuarants all over the UK for more than fifty years and this ranks along side the very best. We shall look forward to going back although this was a weekend break and we live in London. Still, along with the lovely city, superb catherdral and great pubs it's worth a day trip at only 80 mins from Kings X.

Visited Sunday evening 19th Jan, The food was excellent and the service could not have been better all the staff are very friendly. They offer a good wine list at reasonable prices. We chatted with the Owner at the end of our meal, he was extremely pleasant a very good evening for myself and partner

Went on Tuesdayas this is the 'special night' We often take advantage of this amazing offer and the brilliant food. The staff are professional and efficient. It is always an excellent evening out. Don't miss it!!

Our hotelier had recommended Le Spice as a dining option and we were pleased we tried it for our first night in Ely. Fairly busy, even for a Tuesday in November. Prices are reasonable and the staff friendly - if you want a long chat they’ll oblige, but alternatively you can be left to eat. I’d recommend the lamb shank main for being tender and meaty. Food tends slightly to the mild side, so that should be borne in mind when ordering.

Great food and service, would highly recommend! The food is good mid range pricing. I would recommend it over other Indian restaurants in Ely.

This is probably the best Indian in the area. Fabulous staff, great food, busy but service is always attentive. Always makes everyone so welcome.

We have been here several times before and so booked a works for for 10 of us on a Friday night . The restaurant was busy with even people queuing up outside but the quality of the food was awful . Everyone’s curry was cold and had to be heated up in the microwave but even the taste was lacking in all our meals. I appreciate they were busy but you still expect a reasonable meal , unfortunately we will not be returning after this experience.

Have been to this restaurant a number of times. Was there again last night for their 'Tuesday special' which is great value. Our meal was lovely and we all really enjoyed it. As other people have commented the food is not that spicy, but we always order it a bit hotter than we usually would ie order medium rather than mild. This works for us and the restaurant will happily do this.

On a Friday night this place is bustling, and when our food comes I can see why .

We have visited this restaurant many times over the years since it opened and have always experienced good service and good food. This visit was no exception, as good as ever. The staff are all friendly and cheerful, which adds to the enjoyment, the food served in a timely but not rushed manner and the cost very reasonable. Overall, a good dining experience.

Thursday eve visit. Warm welcome by 2 gentlemen. Good to find an Indian restaurant with a good range of starters and something other than 'the usual' main meals. Portion size good too! Would highly recommend if visiting Ely.

Good Indian restaurant close to the centre of Ely. Menu is wide-ranging with some interesting options. Seating is comfortable, service can be inconsistent as waiters take telephone orders and serve takeaway customers as well. Nearly but not quite ‘fine dining’ and a touch on the expensive side.

Booked for 8pm and arrived just before. Slow to take our order and slow to serve meal which we received at 9.05pm. Food was good enough but both of our dishes were under-spiced (milder) compared to other restaurants.

Had dinner here last night. Really great Indian cuisine, great menu, great service, what more do you need to say? Gets very busy, booking a must!

Visited here recently with a group of 16 people. The staff and service were excellent. I ordered a vegetable dupiaza which was a little bland. I will be going back and will try a different dish.

We have to admit that we are fans of "Le Spice" and have had many an amazing meal here.The Tuesday Night Special is an amazing bargain, and is always freshly prepared and delicious. We have recently been to Michelin starred "Benaras" in Berkeley Square, London and to be honest I prefer "Le Spice" the food is just as good, and less pretentious. The staff are professional and friendly, prompt and accommodating. Thank you for another great evening!

me and my girl friend, went there for a meal on Thursday night and it was very busy but the food came right on time and the service was attentive and delightful. The food was amazing as always. The environment was welcoming, the staffs were so kind and smiley... we totally recommend this restaurant for a meal and chilling time. Can't wait to be back. Cheers

Went there yesterday evening just the two of us, to start with it was really nice great staff and lovely food. After about 15 mins a large group of people came in and the noise was so loud. I can appreciate that it was a lot of money for them but for every body else it was a ruined evening. No attempt was made to ask them to be quiet in fact the staff seemed to join in and it became even louder. You really need to think of everybody in your restaurant so what started out as a lovely evening was completely ruined, we have been a few times now when in Ely but will never return again.

We tried to go here for lunch at 11.45 and were ushered out a bit rudely and told they still cleaning and they'll open at 12, So we came back at just few mins before 12 and were told the same, so we said no worries we will go elsewhere. There were no other customers. When we walked past an hour later we noticed it was shut. Our conclusion was they would rather not have customers that day so they couid go home! Is this correct Le spice? Please decide whether you want to open or not, as we wasted 15 minutes sat on a bench outside for no reason.

On a lovely sunny Easter Sunday we fancied an easy dinner. We were thinking of this restaurant or the Turkish opposite. The Turkish has people sitting quiet closely so we chose this restaurant which had spacious seating and easier on a Hot day. The welcome was great. We quickly were given water, menus and popadoms. The chutneys were very tasty. After the order it seemed to take a while for the starter to arrive. However when they arrived we knew why. The meals were beautifully presented and really tasty. I had the prawn puri. The pancakes were very fresh and they were fully of beautifully marinated prawns. My husband had the mixed kebabs all very fresh and enticing. For mains the chicken garlic chilli and the special balti with special fried roscoe were really excellent. The food was a reminder of how good Indian food used to be before things moved to floppy sauces which are so common in many Indians. We had the food with a bottle of Shiraz. Overall a great meal, very reasonably priced and well worth visiting.

Stayed at the lamb hotel and we walked about 300 meters down the road when we came across this little gem. What an absolutely fantastic meal we had and as a regular Indian diner the food was I must say fantastic. Salmon tikka was to die for onion Bhaji was very good as well. Well worth a visit and there is a micropub opposite

Had a large party here they struggled to cope Wouldn't recommend for large parties. Good atmosphere though.

Visited on a very busy Tuesday evening which is their (very good value) banquet night. The food was really good (shashlick and one of their specials, Manchurian chicken) and the staff were lovely but the service was very, very slow which somewhat took the edge off our experience.

Went to let spice after reading good reviews on a night out in Ely and was pleasantly surprised at the exceptional quality and then realised the owner used to have the balti house in march. Was the same great flavours and sorely missed from march. First class!

I went there for my first 2019s curry and was delightful. I enjoyed the meal, the services and the environment. I totally recommend le spice for a date or friend meeting. Gorgeous environment, i will be back for more for sure.

Went there last night. They were not busy when we got there we said we had a reservation no one checked the reservation book. We were just pointed to a seat very tight . Well we asked for 2 Popadoms we received 3 I asked for half a pint got a pint. We ordered the starter very poor and small, then the main course no flavour YES A CURRY WITH NO FLAVOUR both meals. we were told they were sorry for the wait 1 hour as the food was cooked fresh to order, I would challenge this as it cooled very quick once served MICROWAVE comes to mind. The Naan bread was soggy. We go for curries a lot and will not be back in this restuarante. Sorry to give a bad review but it was deserved as the whole meal was NOT good

Went to this place with 5 people on New year's Day food and service is excellent can't fault it..the naan bread and chicken tikka Baltimore is one of the best I had for long time above all excellent all round

Last night we had a take away meal for 4 adults from Le Spice, Ely. The Vegetable Dhansak was horrible. It should really contain several different vegetables but this one only had mostly potatoes and green beans. The Chicken Tikka Balti was very dry with hardly any sauce. My Chicken Tikka Masala only had 4 small pieces of burnt chicken tikka in it, the chicken was covered in charcoal.

there was five of us arrived Friday evening at about 8pm, staff very accommodating and got us a nice table, drinks brought out quickly and food was delicious, no issues at all and we will all return soon, very tasty curries and the naans were fab.

I had a working early evening meal here, a party of 4 and was surprised and pleased. Very good service and very good food presentation, quality of the dishes was fine, even the house wine was ok.

We were greeted by friendly helpful staff on our arrival, and made to feel welcome. The service and the meal was excellent.

There are Indian restaurants in all towns and cities but you know when you have a ood one when you always go back to the same one. This is that one and I would highly recommend Le Spice in Ely as the best Indian in town with quality tasty meals cooked to your liking. We either go there or have take always at least 3 times a month and will continue to do so.

After hearing such amazing reviews on how good le spice is, we thought we’d order a takeaway with friends. We did the order online and they estimated a 55-minute wait... thought that’s fair enough it’s 7.20pm on a Saturday night. Anyway, when it got to 8.40, I rang to ask where it was. They didn’t seem to care much, told me the food was waiting on the side for the delivery driver who was 5 minutes away from the restaurant. Well when it got to 9.20 and there still wasn’t any food and they weren’t answering the phone... absolutely shocking, I’m so incredibly disappointed!

We went to Le Spice for the first time because we were attracted by their Tuesday deal - starter, main, side and rice for only £11.95 - and were delighted with our visit. Although it is a meal deal, the portions are very generous and the quality of the food is terrific - the veggies are fresh and crunchy, and the meat is lean and well-cooked. It feels like a quality restaurant - you know how rare it is these days to find proper linen tablecloths and napkins - and the staff are just right: not hovering, but somehow always there when you need them. I am sorry that we don't live in Ely otherwise we would be going all the time, but we will certainly make sure to visit whenever we can.

Lovely flavours from here, you can experience around the mouth, I cannot moan about the meal at all, it comes fresh and flavoursome, and quality meat, and can see and taste the difference from the other 'run of the mill Indian restaurants' the only criticism I have is that they should put a heater above the front door, and near the toilet door, as the cold blast comes though both. I am sure the waiters do not notice it themselves, as they are in & out of the kitchen and generally moving quickly. However, the little cost it would involve is greatly outweighed by non returning visitors in the winter. Come on Le Spice, get it sorted, we would like to use you in the winter as well, but don't, and we cant be the only ones ! I', putting the service down as 3 star, as I consider the heating of the place is either a good service or bad one, this does not reflect on the waiters.

The most fabulous food! Our first trip to Ely, and the first dinner was so delicious, we returned a few days later. Very generous portions. We were treated like the most special guests. Good wines, as well!

We visited relatives in Ely and went to Le Spice Indian Restaurant Saturday evening for dinner we booked for 7.30pm. When we arrived it was very full and several people were waiting at the reception desk, we were shown to a table straight away and asked if we wanted drinks. These arrived about 20 mins. later. About 10 mins later they took our order, by now it was 8pm. Our food did not arrive for another hour and a quarter, after we had asked where our food was. The food arrived at tepid temperature, cold plates were possibly responsible for some of the cool temperature. No apologies were given for the long wait and it was hard to tell if the food was good as it was no where near the right temperature.

While visiting my wife's sister we went to eat at the Le Spice on Tuesday night. Unknown to us this restaurant has a special priced menu on Tuesday nights which was a surprise. The food was great and along with the service it made for a really nice evening. Ely is really lucky to have such a good Indian restaurant. If ever we are back up at Ely we would definitely visit again.

Now this would have had possibly 4 stars if it wasn’t for the service as the food was genuinely ok. We had booked a table for 7pm. By 7:30 we had to ask for them to take the food order. By 8:30 we had to ask how long our food will be. 10 minutes later we finally had our food. No one ever came over to explain there’ll be a wait. It’s a shame as the food did taste ok but the service was poor.

We decided to eat in instead of getting a takeaway and we were not disappointed. We were made to feel very welcome and the waiters were very attentive. The meal was so delicious and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a tasty Indian meal.

We moved to Ely around a year ago.. tried this Indian and have never looked back!! The dishes are tasty and we have never had a bad meal from here!! The staff/ delivery drivers are polite friendly and 99% on time! Keep up the good work Le spice!! Cambridge road very happy customer!

As I just moved in into a new property, with no energy to cook, I requested a home delivery service for my telephone order. I was impressed as the food arrived on time and was delicious. Well done thank you.

This is a high quality high class Indian Restaurant. The food and service are excellent. It has some very interesting speciality dishes which I have not experienced elsewhere. White pressed linen tablecloths and napkins are standard throughout.
