Le Monde in Cardiff

First visit to Le Monde. Such an amazing restaurant. Food stunning and staff exceptional. It is pricey for wine etc but they do have cheaper options. Massive variety for choice of food The two course deal for £35 great value. Will def be back and can’t wait. (one of the many Jones’s of the day!)

Restaurant was extremely busy when we visited but that does not explain poor service . Arrived on time but we were kept waiting for table when eventually sat at table no explanation of how order system worked but again no problem . But biggest problem we ordered 2 bottles of wine while on 2nd bottle 3rd bottle arrived which we had not ordered and 2nd bottle half full taken away when i pointed this out waiter picked up another empty bottle waving it around saying its empty . i eventually got him to bring back half full bottle . We did order 3rd bottle but when bill came a much more expensive bottle had been charged .Pity as the food was excellent .

Went at lunchtime with colleagues for a pre Christmas meal and couldn’t fault anything. We had a big variety of food and everything was delicious. Service was great and the atmosphere was amazing- would definitely go back . Highly recommend !

Three of us went for an early dinner and were welcomed without a reservation on a Monday night. We were a little confused about going to see the food to order but it was nice to see all the food on offer from the menu in big glass counters, we were able to change a sauce with the sea bass and chose some vegetables that were on display. Service was attentive and very friendly, experienced staff show. The food was lovely and the recommendation to try their creme brulee was spot on, it was lovely. Thank you for a lovely early evening.

We haven't been to Le Monde for quite a while and decided to have a Christmas Sunday there. We had a great time. From the moment we walked in, we were looked after by the team. Drinks at the bar were spot on and we had a great table waiting for us. Food was very good and not ridiculous prices. After eating far too much we went upstairs to Matisse for the cabaret. What a voice the singer has. He got everybody up dancing and singing. A great afternoon

Work meal, very over priced and poor quality- £85 per head and I am sure we were served Tesco's French bread! The only positive was the cheerful waitress.

Sat at the bar for a cocktail whilst waiting for other guests to arrive and asked if the bar staff could make a dirty martini (not a complicated drink to make and not unheard of on a cocktail menu in a ‘high end’ restaurant) and was laughed at by the man working behind the bar; not a nice start to the meal… Ordered the garlic mushrooms to start which were just boiled with a side salad and no taste at all, the water from the mushrooms was all over the plate; I assumed it would at least be served with a piece of crusty bread. I could only eat a couple of them as they also had a slightly fishy taste to them. The vegetarian lasagne was tasteless and cold and the chips were inedible and looked like they had been cooked earlier in the day and reheated in the oven/microwave. The side vegetables also had the same strange fishy taste as the mushrooms. I didn’t complain at the time as there was a large group of us and was being treated by a work colleague and felt awkward to do so after experiencing the attitude of the staff at the cocktail bar and having read the reviews about treatment of customers when they complain. I’d heard good things and was extremely disappointed, especially for the price. In serious need of modernising in terms of atmosphere and food presentation/cheffing. Vegetarian options an afterthought… I wouldn’t recommend nor be returning.

Excellent restaurant the best in Cardiff. Wide selection of food and drinks. You can choose your food and watch the chefs cook. Lovely friendly staff and very central

Good food, but weird that you need to stand and queue to order your food like school dinners/mcdonalds. No menues at the table so you have to choose what you want under pressure while queuing up.

Fabulous restaurant. Lovely art deco vibe. Friendly attentive staff. We particularly enjoyed the salt baked sea bass. Jacket potato side on offer too. Very homely. Dress up nice and enjoy the ambience and great food

I just saw a YouTube video saying that stale sea fish smells like ammonia. Then I remembered that the fish I had here smelled like this. And I did have diarrhea after the dinner here. But I just thought I might should not eat raw oysters at the first place and now I know why. This piece of fish was highly recommended by the man who place my order behind the fridge so this is insane. And that man who place the order was a bit racist. He saw that I was Asian, then he said that the Asians who were eating in the restaurant were my friends and they were waiting for me. Totally ridiculous. DO NOT come to this restaurant, they only sell low-quality tasteless food and charge high prices.

Avoid at all costs. We were a group of 10 booked in for a birthday dinner at 7:30. Although we arrived on time, we waited ONE HOUR to be sat at our table. Despite the late start we were excited and thought the night would turn around but we did not get our mains until 10pm. As a vegetarian I was limited to only two options and no hot starter option and when my main (veg lasagne) did arrive 3.5 hrs later it was a carcinogenic piece of coal. I asked to speak to the manager and instead of him being apologetic for the delay, the state of the food, he threatened to kick me out for complaining. Mo the manager was aggressive and spoke over me and one of the other female guests when we highlighted the hypocrisy. Eventually I received an edible version of my meal and at best it was a 3. The whole experience was distasteful and I would save yourself and go to any other restaurant in Cardiff, even chippy lane would have been better than this.

got to be the nicest place i have been in a long time and i am well and truly a food snob, service is outstanding, the vibe is so relaxed and chilling, food was out of this world all i can say is that i will be back my new favourite place thank you for a wonderful evening.

We had a work related dinner hold in the conference hall. The venue very suitable and the food very nice. Above all was the service. I cannot prase Andrē and Dayana enough for their amazing service.

Unique set up but the food was excellent and the service was first class. Will definitely come back when visiting Cardiff

Very funky place! First visit so we would’ve appreciated some guidance on how the restaurant worked in terms of ordering at the bar etc. But regardless, fab food!

I took my best friend to Le Monde in Cardiff on Monday 19th August for dinner as my husband and I had been before and thoroughly enjoyed our meals there. This was a girls' only overnight trip for the two of us as an opportunity to catch up and relax. We were greeted warmly on arrival and were asked where we would like to sit as the restaurant was very quiet - we chose a quiet table in the corner. My friend was delighted with the counter displaying all of the meat and fish on offer, and being able to choose what you wanted. Our food (sea scallops a la Plancha served with a tomato, garlic and butter sauce for me as starter with my friend choosing the fried calamari with lemon and tartare sauce, followed by a herby crusted rack of lamb for me and grilled hake steak for my friend, with us opting to share chunky chips and mixed vegetables as sides) was delicious. My friend was over the moon with her calamari starter (she described it as incredibly light) and her hake (very tasty, apparently). My scallops were cooked beautifully and my Welsh lamb was nicely pink in the middle, incredibly meltingly tender and full of flavour. The wine list is amazing - we opted for a rather nice bottle of Muga Rioja Reserva 2018 - gorgeous. The waiting staff were attentive, friendly but also gave us space to chat and we were not rushed - a real treat. Your staff are a credit. I will definitely be back. Keep up the good service and delicious food and thank you for a wonderful evening.

We had a fantastic table here for 13 on a Sunday lunchtime and had the most amazing meal. Despite being expensive, the staff are very nice and the atmosphere buzzing. The food is absolutely divine: the Steak melts in your mouth! The Sunday Roast is delicious too. We are regulars and here and this place never fails to disappoint! Thank you for putting up with such a noisy table!

No reservations, but we were welcomed very warmly on a Saturday evening. The service was exceptional, kind and attentive staff who were playful. It made it a good experience. I enjoyed going up to pick out my meal.. there are so many fresh options. Looking forward to my next visit.

We had a group event here of about fifteen people so we felt that the friendly staff went to a lot of trouble to make the day special for all and accommodate for all of our dietary requirements. The food I had was absolutely delicious (I’d especially reccomend the vanilla ice cream!). The only thing you have to be careful of here is eating too much as the prices are insanely overpriced.

Went as a family for a special occasion and well worth it. Had a drink on the roof terrace at Matisse first which was a lovely way to start the evening. Highly recommend the sea bass in rock salt, goats cheese, salad bar, garlic bread and crème brûlée . Staff very friendly and attentive throughout. Will definitely return and highly recommend. Thanks for a lovely night!

Have not been for a while but really impressed and had a lovely family celebration meal. Food was excellent and cooked perfectly. The waiting staff were really attentive and good banter and fun with the service. Quality of wine and drinks was really good too. Worth a revisit or a first time visit if looking for great meat or fish in Cardiff

Today, we went to Le Monde because I had heard good things about their food quality. Upon arrival, we asked the waitress for a table. Since we hadn't made a reservation, she called her manager. The manager approached us, and before even greeting us, he demanded that I remove my cap because no one wearing a cap is allowed inside. I was shocked—it's 2024, and such outdated rules still exist? Everyone inside was casually dressed, and I can't imagine anyone being bothered by my cap. I've attached a photo of myself (taken at another restaurant we visited afterward) for context. I felt deeply offended. The first thing you expect when visiting a restaurant is to feel welcomed, and I didn't want to spend my money somewhere I felt insulted. We left immediately. Such behavior towards customers is ugly and unacceptable.

Absolutely outstanding service and food from here tonight 👌🏻 all of us had our food on time from starters to dessert and there wasn't a single thing we could fault and the rooftop bar is very well decorated and comfortable

Great food, unfortunately, the restaurant wholly let down by misleading advertising on the website. If management were a rating, it would be negative from me.... No manager on site to speak with. The staff tried to recover from a bad start, but they failed in the basic understanding that the customer is right (especially when they openly admit they're wrong!)

We had an amazing time and they made celebrating my daughter's graduation extra special. Franko was especially kind and attentive to us. The food was stunning and they helped keep my daughter's cake a surprise by keeping it from the day before. Honestly could not fault the night.

Thank you for such a great dining experience, truly worth traveling all the way from NewZealand for, amazing Welsh produce cooked to perfection by your team, and it was a team effort from the chef to the waiters staff, well done, thank you for making my visit to Cardiff a very memorable experience 😊

Food is great. I found the pricing structure confusing ended up with more food than wanted and spent more than expected Place can be very noisy.

Every time I visit with my friend Mark I experience a new “best steak ever”. Food is out of this world, raspberry and strawberry daiquiris made to perfection, such a chilled vibe there. Two absolutely delicious steak meals, bottle of white, couple of cocktails and two to die for desserts all for £128 which we thought was amazing value. It’s a place to treat yourself if to you’re in Cardiff. After our meal we went upstairs to their Incognito bar for a couple more cocktails and a seat in the luxurious rooftop garden area with heaters. No expense spared. This place is special.

Abysmal from start to finish. Booked a table for 14.15 , then was rushed into ordering food because the kitchen closed at 14.30. Waitress then spilled a whole pint of lager over the table, my £300 jacket and into my partners salad. Was offered to have the jacket dry cleaned but returned 4 days later or to take £20 off the bill. Manager was abrupt, rude, obnoxious and an abrasive character. Food was served way below par. Chicken dish tasted like dishwater and the rest left a lot to be desired. Upon addressing the issues with the manager, he became very argumentative and strife. A truly abhorrent experience and would not recommend to anyone that enjoys good service and palatable food.

A great place just for drinks, but also food. Had an amazing Sunday roast. The staff are so lovely and the atmosphere is perfect. Love it.

I have never complained to a restaurant before but felt that I was owed at least a refund for my mother’s meal, however, all I have been offered is a bottle of wine at my next meal (I will not be returning after our experience and the way in which my complaint has been dealt with) and the manager was completely rude to me on the phone. When we arrived, it was quite clear that the staff were overwhelmed by the match day crowds as the restaurant was chaotic, our table wasn’t ready on time and we had to wait a little while before anyone attended to us. The manager’s response to this was “well you knew you’d booked a table on a match day”. We eventually sat down after waiting by the bar and had to eventually ask for someone to bring us a drink’s menu. The service generally wasn’t great and when we asked if there was a Sunday lunch, the response from a gentleman who appeared to be the manager on the day was “I don’t know”. We then had to queue for about 10/15 minutes to be able to order food. I had a steak for the main course which I asked to be medium rare but when it came it was blue. I did not complain at the time because I did not want to put a dampener on what was supposed to be a nice day out for Mother’s Day and had already been slightly tarnished by our initial experience of entering the restaurant. My mother had scallops to start (she was the only one to eat this on our table and did not eat anything else after the meal on that day) and was so unwell through the night that she had to take time off work the next day. La veille du match France galles un repas entre amis L endroit est assez joli mais très bruyant Un serveur un peu envahissant !!!!! This is a good place indeed. Fresh food you can see, good wines and fancy decanters... A must visit in Cardiff. Plus, the upstairs bar with live music is good fun!

Arrived for lunch with a friend and were left standing at the door for ages even though the restaurant wasn’t busy and a number of the wait staff looked our way but ignored us! The opposite of welcoming. In fact no one came to us at the door - so we finally went to the counter where people order and asked the guy serving about the lunch specials - he pointed out the two course lunch menu (£26) I asked about the one course lunch menu (which is still advertised on their website) and he told us that the only lunch menu was the two course one - then turned away from us and went back to ignoring us! Naturally, we left. We encountered a couple heading into the restaurant and shared how dismissively we’d been treated and the apparent fact that the one course lunch special was no longer available and suggested that, like us, they head up the road to Ty Madeira if they wanted a better experience and then saw them arrive not long after us! I’ve been a regular customer of Le Monde and have taken many people here for lunch over the years I’ve never experienced such awful customer service. There are so many restaurants to choose from in Cardiff I would have thought they’d bend over backwards to keep customers - not go out of their way to lose customers. Incidentally, we ordered a bottle of wine with the 2 course lunch special (£16) as well as an additional dessert at Ty Madeira - money I had fully intended to spend at Le Monde. UPDATE: Thank you for your prompt reply Your website shows as I said, a lunchtime special menu for £16 - it doesn’t mention or give examples of 2 courses only mains. So perhaps I’ve been getting duped into paying for 2 courses and only getting one course on previous visits? The rude waiter behind the counter pointed out the lunchtime special on the blackboard which clearly says £26 for 2 courses. He did not deign to elaborate or offer any alternative - he didn’t even offer to get a waiter to attend to us before turning away from me and continuing his previous occupation of ignoring me and my guest. Considering that I was about to spend good money in your establishment I’d have thought your staff could have found it in themselves to put on a brave face and try being nice to the customer waiting at the door. I notice you have had a number of other negative reviews predicated mostly on the rudeness of your staff: so our experience was obviously not an isolated one.

Me and my boyfriend visited le monde on a busy satruday we were greeted by the wonderful staff, our waitress Amelia was great help and provided us with great service, we really appreciated all the staff who made us feel special in the middle of a very busy evening, the food was excellent and top standard, would visit again for sure. Again thank you to all the staff and wonderfull chefs

We visit Le Monde regularly so I felt I needed to tell you how fabulous it is! Great food fresh meat & fish, great salad bar, garlic bread to die for - why would you want to go anywhere else. On arriving we sat at the bar and had some fabulous wine and beautifully made cocktails by really experienced bar staff - the ambience is always really good perfect atmosphere especially on the rugby weekend where they deliver exceptional service despite the huge amount of bookings. Murat always welcomes us and makes our visit extra special every time we visit without fail - along with all the other waitresses & waiters - many have been there for years & years which is a credit to the restaurant. The food is always consistently tasty freshly prepared and well presented - and they can advise on wines as they have such a great wine list. A hidden gem in Cardiff City Centre you must check it out! & Thankyou Murat for making every visit a special one with your great customer service.

I can say from the moment I arrived with my team, I was made unwelcome. The office manager made sure I would not be returning. As someone who frequents some of the best restaurants available, and as someone who likes to reward his team. Le Monde is a restaurant, whose food quality is good. The range and cooking skills shown were well above average. The general staff service attentive. The management and care - disgusting. We won’t be back. I’d say they are caught in a time warp and remind me of the experience you’d expect in Le Monde but 20 years ago.

Called into Le Monde on the off chance of a table and managed to get a table for two. The ambience was vibrant, the drinks delicious, and the monkfish was absolutely heavenly. I’m glad we chanced on a table and really enjoyed the food. So much on the menu I’d like to try and will return again.

Went with 16 friends for a special birthday . I had the beef medallions which were 10/10 . Sme if the party had fish which they said was superb . Service was excellent staff went out of the way to enhance the experience . Ended up upstairs for a dance . . Perfect celebration

You won't find better in Cardiff, from the service, to the atmosphere, and the outstanding food and drink. Never had a bad experience. Yes, it's far from the cheapest place in Cardiff but you certainly get what you pay for. A treat night for specials occasions for my partner and I, and the team always make it a special night. Cannot recommend enough.

Would absaloutly never go here again. Obviously there is a dress code here which I get, but for the flamboyant man at front of house visibly ridiculing the way people were dressed, very loudly and obvious was shocking actually. The food was poor. We heard a waiter asking a customer if they'd like to go to the roof top after thier meal to see the live band, falling over himself for this customer. I thought that I'd like to go and vist the rooftop and enjoy the live band, was discouraged and told ' oh will have to see if here's room first' obviously did fit thier regular clientelle. Avoid

extremely nice place. very welcoming staff and the food came quickly and could tell it was just made. even when busy the food was great and it is expensive but very worth it for an occasion.

After trying for a while to get a table at Le Monde we finally went there this week. Firstly it was really busy on a Monday night with hardly any tables free - which is a great sign. I’ve always been a fan of the Martinez family restaurants so I knew what to expect in terms of the menu and food. The atmosphere and the style of the restaurant was impressive, with the best wine selection I’ve seen in any Cardiff restaurant. Service was 10/10. Our waiter had a real eye for detail, and was attentive but very professional. Food was amazing, wine was perfect. Would highly recommend.

Just read a reply from the owner who sent my friend a disgusting msg and a complete lie about the price and lack of food mr Nathanial Martinez we had one round of drinks 14 people and three bottles of wine get your facts right and as for KFC at least they are on time and the right order is delivered.

I’m leaving one star because I can’t leave non! Some food arrived, The other went to the wrong table who ate it anyway! The manager apologised but when we complained the owner to us to F**k off and said to a man in his 60’s ‘let’s take it outside’ We were there about an hour, 30 minutes of that was waiting to be seated after the time our table was booked. We had 9 drinks whilst waiting, the owner states that was worth £900. Utter BS. Apparently we are banned from this so called restaurant… thank god for that!!! Don’t waste your money and go somewhere else

After waiting nearly 60 mins for our table, half our party were left without a meal and the those luckily enough to receive something didn’t get everything they asked for because the food was given to the wrong table. A polite discussion with the manager erupted into a sh*tshow with the owner who became very rude and obnoxious (and that’s being polite). You saved our entire party from making the same mistake twice with your so called banned from your restaurant chain as none of us will return and wouldn’t recommend your establishments to anyone!

Felt rushed from the start. Sat us directly by the toilets in which we had a constant flow of people passing us. Restaurant was so loud could hardly hear yourself speak. No menus and when queuing to order food which looked amazing seeing it all fresh, the boards were very intense as so many options and not a lot of time to choose, as we were rushed by the server behind the counter looking very put out that we were pausing to look. Could hardly hear, to then be shouted at when i asked him to repeat himself. We were handed a salad bowl only to find at the bill we had been charged for salad we thought was a free salad bar as the bowls were tiny and did not ask for them. They were very put out that i questioned the charge as we barely filled them. Was told they come as part of the starters in which we said we had no starters. Drinks arrived only to have the bottle of wine plonked on the table not even opened and the tray left on the seat of one of our guests. The waitresses even though very attentive did not really know what they were doing and asked us continuously if everything was ok which got very annoying after the fourth fifth time. Ended with a very expensive bill for ok food and a very disappointing experience. Will not be returning!!

Sublime restaurant! We celebrated for my partner's birthday (which was last year but only just got a chance to visit now) but it was totally worth the wait. A gorgeous environment and atmosphere, great service and friendly staff but the most important bit - just the loveliest, freshest food! I enjoyed the calamari and swordfish, whilst my partner had the scallops and tuna steak and every single bit of food was so fresh and delicious. Shout out to Lara who served us, as well as a new lady that we didn't get the name of but was on her first shift and was super helpful. Can't wait to visit again!!

Another fantastic meal, and this was the first time my daughter had been there. She loved the experience and can’t wait to go again. Ribeye and fillet a treat along with my partners swordfish. Never had a bad meal and will return next month👍

Le Monde is a Cardiff institution, and I can understand why. Service, food, wine, and atmosphere are all spot on. Selection and quality of seafood and meat is hard to beat anywhere else in the city. The wine list is very extensive. Highly recommend a visit for any special occasion, or as a treat.

Absolutely superb, huge selection of fresh fish and meats available to choose from. Highly recommended.

The customer is of no importance to this restaurant. The understanding of the lifetime value of a customer does not exist. My advice is do not make a booking at this restaurant. They are only interested in taking your money. Before I booked I should have read the recent reviews. In my case I made a booking on 29 th December for 31st December but because of unforeseen circumstances called to cancel. I was informed that because the cancellation was not 48 hours or more my card would be charged. They did it immediately and took £60. In all my long life at dining out this has never arisen before. They must be in so much need of cash it’s almost sorrowful. It might be their policy but it does not win lifetime loyalty Happy New Year Le Monde. This is one customer you will never see. And to all potential visitors I don’t advise you make a booking.

My partner and I had a wonderful meal here. My partner has special dietary requirements and this was absolutely no problem. I had the monkfish which came with chips and I had a side dish of the best garlic bread I have ever tasted!! My partner's gluten free and vegetarian paella was also really nice. The service was wonderful and everyone was so polite and friendly that we'd love to return as soon as possible. We were lucky that we could be accommodated as 'walk in' customers. We deliberately did not book as we don't agree with the cancellation policy of being charged if you cancel within 48 hours of the reservation date. Although we are totally reliable people, and would never just not turn up, sometimes events happen that are out of our control. We would always ring to cancel but don't expect to be charged. For this reason, we will never prebook.

The food is just okay and service is quite pushy to have us order wine.

Incredibly slow service for Christmas meal, table only available 30mins after the booking time. Staff not very helpful and a bit rude. Seemed way too busy and overbooked.

Overpriced pretentious rubbish charging goodness knows how much money for chip shop chips, lentil hotpot is more like Lidl tinned lentil soup with half a carrot in it.

Average quality Christmas meal. Very poor selection of dairy-free options. The meal was lukewarm with inedible hard swede, clearly undercooked. Turkey was on a dry side, pigs in blankets unpleasantly greasy. Starter very small. All in all, not worth the price. Service was very quick and drinks are reasonably good quality. However, one of the waitresses was rude pushing in behind my chair to collect the dishes, no apologies or even an earlier mention that's what she was planning to do - I obviously would have got up to give her space or passed on the plates, there's no need to push in and make me wobble in my chair mid-conversation. Clearly inexperienced. Some senior staff members are just over the top and borderline theatrical in this place. The restaurant is very loud and there are far too many tables squeezed into a small space, it's overcrowded. Overall, the place looks and feels slightly naff, aspiring to be a quality restaurant but failing grotesquely.

It was very busy due to Xmas work / social events. Food was great, staff lovely. We were a large booking and we sat down over an hour late but they gave us 2 free bottles to apologise which was very nice and they kept us informed all the time. Visited Incognito club upstairs after which was lovely

Upmarket place. Trendy and inviting. You can choose the piece of fish/meat you would like. Its the only place I've been to since covid that DOESN'T add a service charge- allowing you to choose your tip. All staff were welcoming and professional. I'll go again

What a fabulous place this was for our Christmas party. I would definitely go back. The service was fantastic especially from Fransisco a wonderful server!

Group meal squash onto small tables with no room, service was hit and miss and so was the food.

We booked for the Christmas set menu which was an amazing deal of £40 for 3 courses. The food was delicious and we all commented on how much we enjoyed. The venue had opened early for us and really made the experience lovely!

Had been looking forward to coming to this place for a few weeks. My husband fell ill the day before. I rang to reschedule to be told I couldn't and would be charged £40. I've Just seen the receipt come through and I am so upset at this. I appreciate that they have to make a living but illness can't be helped, and I just wanted to move it to a day we could both enjoy the experience. No doubt we would have spent alot more than that if we had booked to come again but now we won't book and have been left with a bitter feeling towards this please. Very sad.

Went for a lunchtime set menu and it is good value for money. Lovely choice of fish for example, freshly and cooked well. Potatoes/chips included but other veg perhaps needed as additional sides. Nice, relaxed atmosphere for a wet lunchtime and very good, personable service.
