Called in to the Lay of the land for a coffee with my partner, the menu was decent with plenty of choices and we found it too be good value and the drinks were brill. possibly not ideal for very large groups wanting to sit together as tables were rather spread out.

My favourite spot in Settle to stop for a breakfast. It is so peaceful to sit outside here in a morning in the garden centre with coffee & cake or a lovely breakfast. The staff are all freindly and you can enjoy the relaxed and peaceful atmosphere here. Staff are always available to help you with queries within the garden centre too. I look forward to future visits.

Need I say anymore. The chef here is Michelin star trained. The food is amazing. So well thought out. The coffee is wonderful, a lot of attention paid to the local bean and use of them. Why would anyone go anywhere else in settle. Better prices and better food. Just 5 minutes from the town centre!

Found this spot thanks to the Good Coffee Guide and so glad we did. Fantastic specialty coffee and very flavoursome food. All very reasonably priced and certainly the best coffee/food we've had in the dales. Maybe the best light bites we've had anywhere. The soup was perfectly balanced and the gochugang chicken was full of Korean goodness. Really pleasant service too. All in all, well worth the trip!

The cafe is a little gem of good food hidden behind the Lay of the Land garden centre. The staff are really nice and friendly and the food is excellent from freshly baked cakes to fabulous Sunday roast and without doubt you won’t get a better coffee. The dishes are well thought out with interesting tasty touches, not your run of the mill cafe fare. Chatting to the chef we found out he used to work at Northcote and it shows from the high quality of the cooking and ingredients. The cafe has just had a really nice fresh makeover that has made it a bit larger with a little seating area outside.

We popped in here after reading so many positive reviews. We were not disappointed. We ordered tea and coffee and my partner ordered lemon drizzle cake. I decided on the pulled ham, brie and Fig chutney toastie in brown bread . Everything arrived at the table bar the toastie, which "would be along shortly". My partner began her cake as I waited for my food. As she was finishing her cake, my toastie arrived, it looked good and the side salad was a work of art. The toastie filling was incredible, head and shoulders above any toastie I have ever eaten. This wasn't 'just' a toastie this was a TOASTIE. I am gutted that I didn't take a photograph. Very comfortable seating and friendly staff. Would highly recommend.

Our first visit here, but clearly not for everyone else. All welcomed by name in this well run little cafe.Small selection of hot and cold food, plus daily specials; all of which tasted and / or looked delicious, plus cakes and scones. All was very reasonably priced (except, see below).Very friendly service. On the downside, for us the coffee could have been stronger, ‘the specials’ rhubarb & custard cake was on the expensive side and, due to the cafes compact size, your clothes smell of food on leaving.Lack of guest wi-fi.

We eat in a lot of cafes and despite this cafe being small, the most important thing, we feel, is the quality of food, drinks and service. At Lay of the Land all three are excellent. We eat lunch here regularly and have never been disappointed. Although the menu is quite small, on inspection it does offer quite a lot of variety and there is certainly nothing run of the mill about the food on offer. In fact over the last few months we have had some amazing lunches for example the fish pie and also the beef stew with blue cheese dumplings, two of the “specials” which were both amazing. The homemade cakes are as good as you will get anywhere and the coffee and tea are the best you can get in Settle. All in all a great ( but small ) cafe which we highly recommend, run by great people.

Difficult to reconcile this cafe with all the glowing reviews. Yes, the coffee is very very good, but one has come to expect that these days in the more modern cafes in North Yorks.. It is the venue that is a bit disappointing; there are places for some 12 - 15 people at most, cheek by jowel in a very small area. In summer it is probably OK, but in winter it can be cold. The reason is that it is just a small part of the building that houses the plants, and that is roofed with corrugated plastic, concrete floor etc. It has been tastefully furnished out, but is still rather bare/cold. For locals to meet up and have a cuppa it is fine, but not to linger there long over lunch etc. The food is predictable toasted sandwiches etc and cakes and scones. The latter on the end of the desk where people order and pay and uncovered; not a good idea. We will use the place again if we want a coffee pitstop, but would not go there for any length of time/lunch etc.

This cosy cafe is tucked away just off the main part of Settle and is part of Lay of the Land garden centre. (Well sign posted if you head to Booths from town centre). The food is ‘artisan’ and wholesome. Good selection of cakes and the homemade soups are delicious. Good helpings! My partner is quite fussy about coffee but he gives this place the thumbs up. The staff are friendly and welcoming and if you have a well behaved dog they are welcomed too. Definitely worth the extra 5mins walk from town.

Last time I was raving about their scones - now it's their hot chocolate . And the bacon sarnies. I love this place! Very small but perfectly formed. Hot chocolate made with real chocolate pieces. Some of us like a really good cup of coffee made with tender loving care. . And sometimes it is not always easy to find such a thing say outside of the main centres.Well, here is a real exeption- a surprising discovery . Training and experience must explain this although there is definitely a genuine interest in satisfying cutomer tastes. So, if you are looking for a craftily- crafted coffee this is the place to go. There is also a great choice of teas for those trying to withdraw from the coffee affliction ........ And the scones must be the best in the whole of Yorkshire. Just not enough space here to wax lyrical about the other inventive food offerings. Just try them. You will be stimulated to write a review as we were. Had been to the garden centre a few times since we moved to the area and had often smelled the coffee but never had the time to stop! We made a special trip to have lunch in the cafe and we weren't disappointed. We ordered BLTs and had a choice of white or granary bloomers. Both breads were just what we wanted, the granary had a good texture and plenty of seeds. The bacon was just crisp enough with no fat and the tomatoes and lettuce were really fresh. The BLT was served with a substantial salad of leaves and curled carrot and cucumber with a delicious dressing. The coffee was flavoursome with no bitterness. The staff there, as in the garden centre, were friendly, courteous and professional - will definitely go again as the cakes looked enticing too but we were on a 'being good' day!

Interesting décor, good food and coffee, friendly staff, free parking. Lovely little garden centre. The reason for only 4 stars instead of 5 is that the service is slow, especially for food, coffee drunk by the time the hot food ordered arrived (this actually taking about half an hour plus for a simple order) and there were only 4 other people in. Also the very pleasant young man on the counter could do with wearing an apron over his everyday jeans whilst dealing with food preparation and hitching the said jeans up so the brand name of his underwear is not so visible + all else revealed from the rear view due to his low slung attire. Just doesn't look professional and is a tad off putting.I understand there is a bigger kitchen being built.
