Ir a probar!

L'auberge is a small French restaurant situated in a small cottage, ran by a friendly couple, specialised in French cuisine. The menu comes with small yet innovative selections of starters, mains and desserts. As the venue small, its advisable to book early to avoid disappointment. Food in general was a haven for foodies who crave for fresh flavours to satisfy their taste buds. the venison was cooked to perfection, tender and full of flavours. The fish was aromatic with its creamy vanilla sauce, but i felt the rabbit was slightly dry and the sauce too salty for my liking. Lastly the dessert was just delicious, a must have for anyone with a sweet tooth. Will look forward to our next visit when the summer menu is available.

There are some (older) good reviews so we thought we'd give this restaurant a go, however we were very disappointed. I feel bad writing a bad review as the restaurant us obviously struggling but overall the food was dated, French onion soup was gloopy & had too much pepper, portion sizes were quite small. Desserts & wine were pretty good. However even with Tastecard 50% discount it wasn't very good value for money.

Really disappointing, as my boyfriend and I were hoping this "hidden gem" could become one of our local dinner places, but the service really put us off.Firstly don't book online if you're going with a tastecard, as your inquiry will be rejected! I called them up afterwards and spoke with the husband (of the couple who run the restaurant) who confirmed my booking. Once we got there, we were accused of not reserving ahead (by the wife), and despite my assurance that I definitely made a reservation - with proof of a conversation on my phone! - we were very rudely almost ushered out the door before she double checked and realised we had actually a reservation. After that she was apologetic, but her rudeness started out the evening on a bad note.We ordered the duck confit, which was delicious, and shared a cheesecake that was fairly average. We were however continually interrupted with suggestions of more wine/starters/etc, and complaints about her husband since he hadn't communicated about our reservation - not ideal. We ended up being overcharged for the wine too, and just decided to pay the bill and leave asap, as the hostess was ruining a nice evening. We will NOT be going back there, which is a shame as the food was actually pretty good.

Really disappointing considering the price (luckily we had a tastecard!):- only house wine is sold by glass (and it's not really nice)- we were asked if we would like some bread, said yes and got charged for it (you wouldn't expect to be charged for bread and butter in a French restaurant). Bread was stale and butter was refrigerated.- starters were ok, however my terrine didn't come with any bread, you would just expect for it to be served with something- as for mains... Nothing that you couldn't cook yourself at home. I had fish, my husband had pork, both came with brown rice... I did ask before ordering if I could have mine with potatoes, I was told only dauphinois would be available ... There was no choice of sides whatsoever! Both dishes came with a bit of poorly seasoned veg... (Again, so glad we didn't pay full price! Each main is around £16!)- dessert - the only thing that was actually alright and we enjoyed.Service? It was ok.To be honest, I would not recommend this restaurant. Even though we had a discount I am still a bit annoyed about the price we paid, considering the quality of food.

However the portions were small, the plates were cold and there was no atmosphere in the place at all since there were only four other people there - on a Saturday night too! The only saving grace was that they take Tastecard on a Saturday (and now we know why!), which is just as well as it would have been considered poor value for money otherwise.

On my innumerable trips past the L'Auberge, it always struck me as the Bermuda Triangle of restaurants. Why? I asked myself, would a decent french restaurant hide away amongst a residential block of local Upper Richmond Road convenience stores? Authentic, affordable French fare, I reasoned, is hard enough to find in London. So why be such a hidden gem? It all seemed so un-French....so modest?... It's too good to be true, I thought. But on a recent Friday night my boyfriend took me to a get schooled! And let me tell you. It only took one epic feast to make me a believer!I realised over my 3 courses - set to complementary wines - why well worn cliches are so often proved true! L'auberge lesson 1? A wise woman never looks a gift horse in the mouth! Thank God this restaurant is 2 streets from my place! Not only are the proprietors super cool and passionate about giving you an authentic and curated personalised experience. They will charm you into tastiest journey of your week! I think it wouldn't matter if you were a young couple on a first date or celebrating a well earned anniversary I can honestly say if you trust Christine's recommendations you wont be disappointed. From the unusual champagne cocktail aperitifs to the delightfully inventive puff pastry escargot we were in heaven! The lovingly composed mains menu made choosing, idiot proof :) after which it was a struggle to imagine what more we could need. But then we got to dessert! And after sharing two, floating on a sugar wave of delight, we discovered, from Christine, (at once a proud wife and persuasive hostess!) that the Chef, Pascal is an expert Patissier-Chocolatier-Confiseur-Glacier, ( she was pretty adamant we get that right!), so in the spirit of excess, we may have one more! A digestive, three desserts and a discreet burp later we got to chatting with Christine about the charmingly rustic decor which reminded us of our perfect summer wedding in Bize-Minervois. We found out that over the past 14 years they have lovingly sculpted the restaurant into their a home away from hme, where they welcome old friends and people newly settle to Putney. I slightly tipsily reflected that this was a labour of love for them. As a couple they take pleasure in sharing their passion for French food, wine and hospitality. And I loved it too! Putney is lucky to have a French local! A place only slightly more expensive than a Chinese or Indian takeaway (ps, L'auberge also do take aways and custom cakes!). I'd recommend it - I found, L'auberge transports you across the channel in one very smooth leap of faith. It worked for me.

I had vaguely noticed the existence of this restaurant , having passed it many times in the car after leaving the Wandsworth one way system. It is set in a rather in auspicious parade of shops and I had never really thought of trying it until some friends suggested we give it a go. It was a very pleasant surprise. A good menu, the fixed price looked particularly good value although we all went for the a la carte. Food and wine were very good. The lady co-owner was very friendly and attentive, although I can understand one or two of the less positive comments from some of the other reviewers about her being a bit pushy about what you should choose. However it did not detract from what was a very pleasant meal and evening. We will be back.

The reviews of L'auberge are very mixed. We decided to take a chance on it for our wedding anniversary celebration and did not regret it. We had a lovely evening. We were welcomed warmly by the hostess. There is a large range of kir royeaux aperitifs - my husband, intrigued, chose one with a cactus and chilli base - more subtle than you might think, and I enjoyed a more conventional wild strawberry. Both were excellent. The highlight of the meal was the desserts, make sure to save room for these. The creme brûlée was wonderful, and the plates piped with an anniversary message. All of the food is fresh and nicely prepared, and brought to the table by the chef. The hostess is very attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. She suggested a cheaper bottle of red wine than the one we had initially plumped for, and it was excellent and complemented the main course very well, we also followed her advice and had a glass of crisp house white to go with our with our starters. Dessert wine, port and cognac were also excellent. I can see why this restaurant is not for everyone. In some ways it is more like being a house dinner guest. The (charming) hostess joins in the conversation at the table, and is keen to guide choice on combinations of food and drink. The menu is limited but sufficient in terms of choice (we both found more than one option for every course which we were very happy to order), and there is a lack of ambience in part because there were only a small number of tables occupied. Food was delivered promptly, but with (as far as we could see) everything being done by the husband and wife team, there were a couple of times when we waited a little longer than we would like to get attention (this particularly related to the end of the meal when bills were being prepared). In summary we had a lovely evening and enjoyed the company of our hosts and our meal. We will return.

It was really cold next where we were seating. The decoration put a cold and old atmosphere. The lady who served us was nice but she kept on forcing to choose what she thought was best even after telling her several times that it was not what we wanted. And the food was not representative of French food (I have lived in France for 21 years). It was actually not very nice at all apart for the dessert. The price was way too high for what it is. Good starter but main meal could have been hotter, I think it was waiting for us to finish our starter which we were relaxed in eating, as it came straight up. I visited L'Auberge with my girlfriend on a Thursday night and couldn't have been more delighted with the overall experience. Upon entering it's easy to feel that you have been transported from the streets of South West London to South West France.Although the restaurant was relatively quiet, the atmosphere was enjoyable and the owner, Christine was incredibly welcoming. We ordered from the set menu which is fantastically priced considering the quality of the food (3 courses for £18). Despite not usually being one for desserts, I also plumped for a third course after being convinced by Christine's descriptions and her husband, Pascal's credentials as a choclatier and pâttisier. This was not a decision that I regretted, highly recommended. The only thing holding this restaurant back I feel is its location. While only a 15 minute walk or a 5 minute bus ride from Putney station, not having a steady foot fall means it doesn't get the custom the food warrants.I'd recommend booking earlier than later in the night if not at a weekend as it can quieten down a little earlier. We have been coming to L'Auberge for a number of years now and every visit fills us with delight. Today was a birthday celebration for 7 and Christine and Pascale catered for us beautifully, with another faultless meal. Pascale is an outstanding chef, whose speciality is pastry although if you tasted his starters or mains you would not believe it! Today I had French onion soup and beef bourguinon and it was stunning, simply stunning. The chocolate molleuux for desert (fondant pudding) was to die for, and Pascale thoughtfully wrote "jouyeux anniversaire" in chocolate around the edge of the plate for the two birthdays we had. So thoughtful :-)I could rave about the food here all day, every time I visit I have a wonderful 3 course meal and I am never disappointed. The wine, usually recommended by a very knowledgable Christine, is always delicious and very reasonably priced. The restaurant is so friendly and homely and the only thing my friends and I don't understand is why this place isn't busier. The owner/hostess is friendly and knowledgable and will happily make recommendations on wine pairings and so on, whilst being attentive, tactful and not overbearing. All in all, while there is no one aspect (except dessert) I'd call 'spectacular', taken as a whole L'Auberge offers the sort of excellent all round dining you will not find in a soulless high street chain for the same sort of price. My advice? allez-y!

L'Auberge is a wonderful, family-run French restaurant which was a fantastic dining experience for my wife and I for our anniversary. Very, very friendly service with attention to detail and very personal - something sadly lacking in most London restaurants. With the owner and chef being a patissiere and chocolatier the desserts were stunning, but equally the main courses were exceptional. Really nice small, seasonal menu with very good value for money set menu (2 or 3 courses) or slightly more expensive a la carte. A gem of a restaurant and we will definitely be going back and telling as many people as we can! Safe to say, we recommend!

L'Auberge has been in Wandsworth for as long as I can remember but not really on my radar, so when my Dad booked it for Fathers day last Saturday I thought ok, it must be doing something right. However, having now been there I don't know how they've lasted.First impressions. Decore tired and dated. Atmosphere - non existent. I asked what beers they had on offer and simply get 'Stella', just 'Stella'. Bad start. The front of house lady, whilst friendly and knowledgable was verging on the over friendly and seemed to be overcompensating for the lack of atmosphere and the overall product. Snail starter ok. Rib eye main course probably one of the worst streaks I've ever had. Anemic (looked like it had been frozen for a long time) and overcooked. Portion sizes minute and cooked with a lack of interest or flavour. All other diners in my part felt the same. Whilst eating desert the chef started mopping the kitchen floor with the door open (we could see him) and there was a strong smell of disinfectant.Left hungry and very disappointed. Shame.

I absolutely love this place - the food is sublime, run by the owners (one cooks, one front of house). Every time we go it feels like a little trip to France, fantastic foie grais and the best rabbit I've ever had - would so recommend this place, it's truly special every little thing about it. It's also not terribly expensive, even the house wine is very good indeed. I love the lady who runs it too, she's really knowledgable and wants you to make the most of your dining experience here and is great at recommending wines and discussing food flavours etc. A must try!!

I've driven past L'Auberge so many times and always meant to stop by...well we finally did last weekend and all I can wonder is what took us so long! It's not your typical chain restaurant. The owners run it - one cooks, one runs front of house. We went on a Saturday night, and although quiet when we arrived, the owner made everyone feel really welcome chatting with them and creating an atmosphere. Some of the reviews complain that front of house is too forceful and pushy. It's not, it's just refreshing to see someone with an opinion! The food was amazing. Fresh, well made, homely. Nothing was on the plate for the sake of it. Good honest delicious food. And the desserts - WOW! Definately save a space for them! We shared, and had the creme brulee first and then a chocolate tart. Both so different, but both AMAZING.Really good value too. I had the set 3 courses - £18, and husband went A La Carte. You often find that the set menus serve tiny portions reflective of the lower price - not here. It was amazing! They also do take away, so we bought some pate which I'm really looking forward to, and I'll be ordering a cake for a friends birthday (any excuse to have some more of their amazing desserts!).Will definately be back and soon! Thanks so much!

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We first came across L'Auberge via reviews on London Eating a few years ago. It has rapidly become our favourite restaurant in London. Let's get the bad news out of the way: it's stuck in a no-mans-land between Wandsworth and Putney, which is a bit of a hassle to get to. But is it just a "local" place? We would argue not: we make the trip every time from Willesden, in NW London, which is a real pain. But a pain worth taking.Sadly, I've come across very few decent French restaurants in London at a moderate price level (of course you can pay through the nose for a top meal). There are some mediocre places floating around - although none I've come across that are anyhing substantially better than Cafe Rouge. This is a shame, because proper old-school French country cooking is as good as it gets when it's done well.L'Auberge is that rare beast - top class French country cooking at prices that make you worry about their profit margins. On our most recent visit, I went with my wife and dad. I had a blue cheese and walnut tart: simple, packed full of flavour and very satisfying. While I wsa tempted by a duck main course, I went instead for a piece of sea bass, done very simply with a proper shellfish coulis. For dessert my dad bagged the last creme brulee so I made do with a tarte tatin. All superb. The atmosphere is quiet but the best thing about it is the husband-and-wife team who are super-knowledgable and friendly. After your main course you'll be informed - a touch smugly - that "we specialise in desserts". This sounds like a sales spiel. That it is, but it's also the truth: desserts have usually been the best part of the meal on the 4 times we've been over the years (the chef has a pastrychef background). There's a set menu at £18 but main courses are generally about £17; you could easily have a rotten feed in a pub for that money. Once you throw in wine and service, a 3 course meal tends to come in at around £50 a head all-in, a price bracket where it's very easy to eat badly and quite difficult to eat well.Until something else appears, L'Auberge, alongside various Indian, Lebanese and Turkish restaurants, will remain our favourite restaurant in London and we'll continue to make the trek.Top tips: have a glass of pineau des charentes as an aperitif! Do leave room for dessert! And ask them about their jars of meals to take away - a jar of cassoulet makes a great present.

It's actually more of a good than very good. Run by a French husband & wife team who serve decent, unfussy French standards. Not glamorous & not extensive menu but the emphasis is on doing what they do do well so that's the right idea. Main courses more successful with a very good steak & nice rabbit. The chef is a trained patissier so they very much push their desserts - nougat & moelleux au chocolat were excellent. Decent wine selection. It's in a bit of a no man's land at the bottom of West Hill & probably could do with a bit of makeover & I was a bit cold. Handy to pop into if you live locally & fancy a bit of a change.

We live locally and believe in supporting local enterprise, and have visited Auberge five or six times, in the increasingly vain hope that we will have a good meal. We have been French property owners and are regular visitors to France so are fairly au fait with authentic French cuisine, and Auberge is a very poor example of the genre. On our last visit earlier this year my foie gras had clearly just been taken out of the fridge, which is not something that I would expect from a restaurant that prides itself on quality. My husband's cassoulet was definitely on the mean side, and the vegetables, as always, were unimaginative. Our chief complaint about Auberge is the total lack of originality in the menu - it is depressing to see nothing but 'standard' dishes, and no accoutrements to get excited about. By all means serve foie gras but what about something interesting on the plate. In summary, this is a mediocre restaurant, and certainly not worth making a special trip for.You will get a much more imaginative menu, better ambience ( Auberge is generally fairly empty ) and lower prices at Cafe Rouge. The owners of Auberge are to be commended for hanging in there, but they must up their game.

I have been here only once but will definitely be going again. When we arrived at 9.30pm, the chef was actually watering the plants outside but after we entered the restaurant and were told that they were about to close, she immediately told him to come inside and open up the kitchen again! There was another couple in the restaurant just paying the bill- they also said it was their first time there but that they would definitely be going back. Apart from the great service and accomodating owners, the food is amazing. I had snails to start (which I had only had once before and didn't really like them) and duck breast for main and they were both delicious. We were then persuaded to have a dessert and the chef trained as a French Patisserie. We were not dissapointed! I had the creme brulee with Lavendar which was honestly the best I'd ever had. For 3 courses and a bottle of wine the bill came to about £80, which is fairly standard in this part of London. They do take the Tastecard however, where you can get 50% off the food and had I known I would have used mine!Overall this is a lovely, cosy family run restaurant, with excellent service and food and we will definitely be returning (maybe using the discount card next time?!)

Fantastic and so pleased that I finally made it here. Christine and Pascal have been running this little gem of France for the last 12 years and I must have driven past at least 10,000 times without getting round to paying a visit. Three of us went for dinner last night and felt indulged. While they've got a good fixed price menu of 3 courses for £18, where my friend had a starter of Gratinée de moules à la crème et emmenthal (aka Mussels baked with cheese, shallot, cream & white wine) which was divine. Two of us were tempted by the al la carte menu which was also very reasonable and Pascal's Crème brulée au miel & à la lavande (aka Honey & lavender infused crème brulée) was awesome. Can get a little pricey once you've had one too many drinks but can't all places. I don't usually write reviews with personal touches of the owners but think the owners are partly what makes this restaurant special, no big chains here, just a good old family restaurant serving quality food and wine. Will visit again.

We enjoyed a traditional French 5 course menu here on Bastille eve. The highlight of the restaurant for me was the superbly knowledgable, welcoming French lady who served us. Also the Tarte Tatin was out of this world. The mascarpone soup to start was also delicious. The first and main courses were a choice of 2; frogs legs or roasted vegetables followed by steak or calamari. The frog legs felt an appropriate choice on Bastille eve but should be chosen for the novelty value rather than the taste! The calamari was a good texture & steak went down quite well. Champagne sorbet was a good 3rd course. Unfortunately the restaurant does not have aircon & the door was generally closed because of the busy main road outside. In the rare event of a heat wave in London (as happened to be the case when we went), the heat can be pretty unbearable in here. The house wine was recommended & we enjoyed both the red & the rose. Perhaps without the set menu i.e with more choice & a la carte the food could have been a 5, I will have to come back another time to see!

Before getting to the review, parking is a bit of a struggle but East Putney Tube Station is close by.Plus Buses run fairly frequently from Wandsworth.I'd heard comments about the management of this restaurant but decided to give it a try.As a small business we were however keen to patronise this restaurant which is owned we believe by Christine and Pascal Ardilly.L'Auberge serves a variety of interesting South West French dishes at their restaurant. We went for a gastronomic meal (which appear quite popular and take place monthly) which on the whole was very good.A bit heavy handed with the salt and one dish a little overdone. It looked like the Chef was the husband (presumably Pascal) and it appeared that he was doing everything kitchen wise himself!!At first we were left alone to enjoy the company of the Friends we went with, but when it came to the wine the fun started.I don't mind Wines being pointed out that, in the opinion of the experts, will be the perfect accompaniment to the meal but this started to go to a new level. It could have become quite difficult but the situation was diffused when the Wine being recommended was thankfully one we wanted. However I think that should you wish to choose a Wine that's not recommended you might find it leads to some difficulties. This is a shame as my wife and I like to support local enterprises and generally the food was well prepared and tasted good.It was also reasonably good value for money. We had heard that sometimes it isn't that busy but on the night we went it was buzzing which meant that we were largely (and thankfully!) left in peace. My wife and I will go back again but not alone!!!Oddly, I discovered, they have a Take Away Service!

Been using this place on & off for 10 years. The trick is to know HOW to dine here. There's a reason there are so many good reviews yet the place is always empty and that's HER! The dominatrix lady of the house (another reviewer here called her Atilla the Hen) will talk over you, talk at you throughout your meal, not leaving you alone for a second, and ruin it for you. They hold monthly events and the place is packed. That's coz the locals know there is 'safety in numbers' if there are lots of others, you get a bit of a break from her. Don't think they read the reviews as this has been said on just about every other food review site. Now for the food: if it wasn't for Atilla, her husband would have a michelin star by now. His cooking is top notch every time. So don't deprive yourself of a chance to have fab authentic French food, way better than some Michelin rated restaurants, just pick your time to go carefully or bring a large group with you.

Went to Auberge with good expectations based on Trip Advisor reviews. I was surprised to see that there were only two customers on a Friday evening at 2030hrs; I should have taken the hint.My son joined me but he had already eaten so did not want another meal. I poured him a glass of my claret (very drinkable and sensibly priced) at which point Madame who runs front of house turned into a veritable Attila the Hen. She practically snatched the glass of wine from my son's hand and insisted that he had to buy a "main meal" but not a starter if he wished to drink the wine; gave some weird justification to do with their licence. My son reluctantly ordered a piece of white fish which was served up totally overcooked. I had ordered some scallops in a sauce to start; tasty but a minute portion. My main course was a cassoulet which had a few nondescript bits of meat and gristle, pieces of sausage that tasted as if they were from Walls and a bit of duck leg with plenty of splinters of bone. The taste, appearance and texture of the accompanying beans and their sauce were 100% Heinz. Take my advice and give this particular auberge a wide berth. It would not have inspired Chris Rea to write his eponymous ballad of the same name; put me more in mind of Jacques Brel and the repressed rage of "Ces gens la".
