Finally I can eat good food before the show. We came 45 min before she those. We managed to go though 2 course set menus for 40pp. Food came fast. I had dressed crab and a fish cake both were great. Good wine selection. Charged us for bread(that was very good by the way) Payed about 120 with wine , coffee.

Very good food here, and they are very efficient if you’re watching a play. Food was fresh and delicious, and the lamb and beans that I had were very lovely, as were all the desserts. However, the food is really pretty expensive for what it is, and I find the fact that you have to order things like potatoes and vegetables with the pie as an extra a bit cheeky. The tables are also quite close together and the music was atrocious, although it calmed down a little later in the meal! Service was also quite curt too, although perfectly polite, for example leaving before we had finished an order.

I really liked the industrial/concrete aesthetic and the whole premise with white table cloths and attentive service prepared me for something exceptional. Alas the food was really basic in terms of both concept and execution. Nothing memorable I am afraid.

Went for a pre-theatre meal and the food was incredibly disappointing, even more so when taking price into consideration. The chicken pie was one of the worst I’ve had- incredibly thin crust with an unpleasant texture and a watery filling with huge chunks of bland chicken breast. The brown butter custard tart dessert was just as lacklustre, to say it seemed like it was from the frozen aisle of the local supermarket would be doing supermarket dessert aisles an injustice. I have a huge sweet tooth yet I could not bring myself to even finish it. We paid ~£115 for two of us for the two course pre-theatre deal and two drinks, including a ‘discretionary’ 12.5% service charge they added onto the bill. Not usually one to leave reviews, however I wish to warn anyone against experiencing the kind of pain and disappointment as I did when I had to fork over that amount of money for a school canteen quality meal. Do better or do cheaper.

Very tiny portions. I ordered a spinach courgette and goat curd pie. It was okay but you ought to order a side dish. My friend liked his fishcake. Unpleasant custard tart and soft serve blackcurrant ice. 500 ml of cheapest wine, no sides 120 sterling. Won't return.

We've been here half a dozen times, and most enjoyable they were, but this evening was a real disappointment. We had a 515pm reservation, but had to run at 7pm without coffee - and after only having two courses! We've shared the chicken pie on prior visits but this time it was not good! Reheated pastry, really thin gravy, an actual lump of chicken (not shredded or diced), virtually no leeks and three girolles! The new potatoes were an embarrassment to Jersey but, to be fair, the buttered greens were good! Desert was equally disappointing - the Eton mess was not an Eton mess: it was strawberries on whipped cream with a meringue top. We were only told the poacher wasn't available when we ordered desert, which, given I went the mains/desert two course route partially because of the poacher, defeated my order totally. I was given, instead, "some sort of crumbly blue sheeps cheese" - our waitresses' exact words - which the apple jelly did not go with at all. I should have realised things had "slipped" at Lasdun when I ordered a "classic bloody mary" cocktail and was told they couldn't make it! All in all, it was a disappointing dinner. For just shy of £160 I did not expect the scruffy service we got, I expected better food and I certainly thought a bloody mary wasn't beyond the realms of the barman. To book a table here is a real job of work, so I'm afraid it looks as if this restaurant has started to rely on previous good press and not care about service or food quality. We will not be going again!

It’s been a long time since I’ve been to the National Theater in England. I went to watch a show here tonight. I remember that the restaurant attached to it is of good quality. When I booked the theater tickets, I also booked a pre-theatre meal. It cost 40 pounds for two courses, which is quite reasonable. Without thinking too much, I just went in to watch the show after eating. How nice. People count, not as much as restaurants 🤣🤣🤣. It is indeed a two-course set meal, but you are welcome to add more. Every item on the menu looks very tempting. Then I looked at the wine list. There are many delicious red and white wines on the list. There is a charge for adding water. The service fee is also extra, so it is impossible to get away with 40 pounds. I chose crab soup and cod cakes as two dishes. I couldn't help but add half a dozen Jackson Oyster and fresh green vegetables to go with the main course. The food was good, and the service was so good that I was convinced to pay the service charge. Even if I learned a lot about this meal, I thought I was getting a bargain, but in fact I wanted to get a bargain in London. It was a good idea!

Elegant gem off the the busy Southbank, nestled within the gorgeous national theatre. The interior design is one of the main reasons you should visit, then obviously the food and the drinks. Lasdun is named after Denys Lasdun, the architect for the National Gallery. It opened a 15 months ago with the chefs previously having worked in St John’s. On the first floor with access from the outside and the interior of the national theatre. Beautiful brutalist interior with white table cloths. Love the ceiling design. There were four tables for Saturday lunch, all heading to the 2.15pm show. The two and three course menu were select. The starter of the Hereford carpaccio with celeriac salad was beautiful- light and tasty. The crab soup was excellent with a crispy toast. A nice thick brown liquid with a Super intense of crab flavour. The mains of the shared Chicken , leek and girollle pie was excellent. Nice crispy Flakey pastry crust with chicken stew and breast pieces. It does take about 20minutes to Prepare so they do warn you prior to ordering just in case there is a time pressure of a meal before a show. Nice choice stew with leek pieces with unfortunately with only 4 girolle. The meal was heavy that we didn’t order deserts. Wine was well priced. The service attentive and pleasant.

Thought I'd give this place a go e as I was here for another visit to see Nye. I arrived for my 5.15 reservation, and I was already dining alone, they had pre chosen where I would be put, and and I hate that as diners of more than one can always change, so I asked to be moved, to overlook the stalls waiting area window, though I should have asked for the other side, the negroni I had to start was OK, its an easy drink to make but still just ok, but the off menu espresso martini I asked for was awful, not to be difficult I just said they were good, but it is very apparent that they don't have an experienced bar tender, so I would suggest people only ever buy the wine. I had the set menu but had to pay a an £8.. yes .£8 supplement for the smoke salmon, the herb butter that cam with the bread was like it came out of the freezer couldn't spread it. Awful. The black gentleman who served all my food was an absolute delight, so charming with each plate serve, the white gentleman who took my order was fine. No more no less. It really is just an average venue with the only plus point being its location in the theatre, that is not enough for a return visit. I was quite disappointed and for just over £90 I feel a little cheated. I wish I could be more positive, but at near £100 I just can't. Nil return Three stars 🌟 but its really 2.5

Thank you so much to the lovely team, who looked after us very well when dining here last night. Everything from the welcome, to wine suggestions, to the parting gift of take-home tart really added to our experience, we felt very welcomed and catered for. The food was all excellent, with great new season asparagus, delicious sauces with the mains, very nicely cooked rib eye and trout. Flavours were all very well balanced, and wine options by the glass were also extensive and well-chosen. I had a very memorable meal in perfectly relaxed surroundings and cannot wait to return.

This was our second visit, pre theatre. First visit was ok, though expensive. This one was very poor. Service was perfunctory but ok by us. The £55 pie for two was soupy slop with a thin pastry lid. Sides paid for separately were tough greens, with no attempt to give any flavour. Hot chips were tasteless, almost certainly from frozen. We spend money on good food and are happy to do. However very average street food on south bank will be better value than this. We did tell the restaurant but only as we paid as this is just lacklustre not caring and they’ll have to decide if they care enough to deliver better food.

As is often the case never trust a review in the national press. One that was effervescent with praise drew us here. The best bit was the service. I note that some reviews have complained about this but we found it attentive. That said we were eating after the pre-theatre dinner crowd and the place was all but empty. So good service but a dull atmosphere. Sadly the food did not match the price. It wasn't that it was poor but there was no wow factor. Both seafood dishes were unremarkable. The terrine good but presented as a slab on a plate; the ox-cheeks were better. Slow cooked and deep with flavour. The rhubarb crumble good but the tart too cloying and no more than might be found in a canteen. So unfortunately a place to visit once but not return.

One of the worst meals I’ve had in a long time, so feel obliged to leave a review sadly. We had a chicken pie (costing £55 and meant to be sharing for 2) - I can only describe this as a salty chicken soup with a crust on it. So watery that it had to be served with a spoon. Another fish main was served cold and completely tasteless. Not even salty. Very disappointing.

The previous incarnation of this restaurant used to be a favourite haunt of ours. Great food, service and atmosphere completing an evening with a theatre. This new incarnation is so sad. Despite warning them of my allergies I had almost no choice on the menu, which was very limited anyway. Cheaper incredients were put together to be tasty but nothing extraordinary but at a fairly breathtaking price tag. We would happily have paid these prices for a decent feed, but terrine, crab salad, onion tart and grilled plaice seriously aren't breathtaking ingredients. To top it off, the staff were surly when I pointed out they could barely feed me and the coffee machine was broken. This was a very sad last meal in an old favourite.

Maybe we were just unlucky. We went for the pre-theatre before "The House of Bernarda Alba" and it was terrible. The mains delivered to the table were not what we ordered, the fishcakes (when they finally arrived) were searing in the middle in a way that suggested they had been microwaved, the glass of wine was clearly undersized, the desert (which took 30 minutes to appear) did not match the description on the menu. The manager actually apologised for how bad it had been and reduced the bill quite substantially, which was a nice touch, but it would have been much better if the experience had simply been competent.

I can't agree with some of the comments made about the service here - I found it to be warm and attentive, albeit a tad slow with fetching the bill, but by that point we'd had a great evening so didn't mind. Food consistently excellent throughout the 3-course pre-theatre menu, esp the pumpkin starter, and therefore very good value. Pleasant lighting and a good, even ambience throughout - the carpeting certainly helps. Must be just about the best spot for a nice meal on the South Bank now.

We came here for a meal with a friend. We wanted a nice opportunity to catch up and chat with good food and a nice, civilised atmosphere. The food was very good and we got good service from the first waiter we had. Unfortunately, a table of four youngish female ’influencers’ (I can only presume this is who they were as the phone attachment was extreme) came in and wouldn’t stop filming every aspect of their meal. One of them kept picking up her food and talking it to the bar to take pictures of it. She was also filming the whole restaurant including other dinners and stepping back into our table to take pictures. These four women kept taking selfies and filming while the staff completely abandoned all the other diners to fawn over these mannerless, pouting creatures. The previously nice atmosphere was completely ruined by this experience. When we complained, the manager explained that they were from the company that owned the restaurant so they couldn’t do anything about their behaviour. Not a good experience and pretty depressing. Paying customers get utterly sidelined and poorly treated while the owner’s employees (?) disrupt and upset diners. Grim experience that spoiled the evening and not suited to the NT. Get the basics right please!

Beautiful food, no complaints there and a fun menu with solid takes on British classics. Some of the worst service I've had at a fine dining restaurant. On arriving, it was clear the waitress had made up her mind about us (we were a much younger table in comparison to other guests) and despite having a reservation our table wasn't ready. We ordered cocktails to start and I was handed two of the three while my friend was left empty handed. We tried to order a few plates to start and share but the waitress said we should order all at once so the kitchen could organise itself which is fair enough. To start, we ordered a dozen oysters and devilled eggs - only a half dozen arrived and when we clarified we asked for a dozen it took half an hour to come out. Only two devilled eggs on the plate for a table of three arrived and only then did the waitress ask, did you want a third. We said yes, and waited another half hour for a second plate of two to come out. The rest of the food was beautiful but after ordering 40 minutes ago, we were told they were out of chips (on a very quiet weeknight at 8:30?), although another table that ordered after us got theirs. When we ordered wine, a bottle was plonked down at the table and the waitress walked off, and I had to ask another person to uncork it - if you can't get that right, what is going on... It felt like once we got the bill past £149.99, the staff started paying attention to us and looked after us for the rest of the evening. Seems as though three young people who ask for raw seafood and chips to start with a cocktail and a wine on the way isn't the clientele they're after, despite us being polite and pretty accommodating given all the errors. At no point did any of the staff apologise or even consider comping us for stuffing us around for half the evening. To top it off, the items that weren't available were still on the bill and if I hadn't read it correctly, we would've been charged. Beautiful food but be ready to have to financially earn decent service.

We went to Lasdun on the back of Grace Dent's review in The Guardian. She said it was hard to find, so we got there early. It is not difficult to find. It is sign posted on the balcony and indicated by an arrow. She may be wrong about directions, but she is right about the food which is superb. At least ours was. I'm not sure about the 'serve your own' chicken & leek pie shared by the couple on the next table. Too fiddly by half. On to our experience. We had cocktails at the bar as we had a spare half hour. Aperol spritz for me, coffee martini for Mum. Later we drank a carafe of excellent Picpoul de Pinet. Service was friendly, efficient and informative. Patient too. The restaurant and bar is wood panelled, on the small side and slender. It predominantly overlooks the upper gallery. We had a table that afforded us a view of the Thames. The menu is short which I think allows for higher quality. No one is spreading themselves thin here; the food is outstandingwith a deft concentration of depth and subtlety, which sounds like a contradiction but really isn't. We shared a hefty pungent Guinea fowl terrine which came with a pear compot. The home bake bread was soft and slightly nutty in flavour. Mum chose to follow Grace's advice and took the buttery browned cod on a shrimp & cucumber sauce [Delicious, she declared] while I chose braised barley with courgette and minted peas. It scented heavily of the sprinkled parmesan, but ate like a vegetarian risotto, plump and slightly charred, packed full of those warring subtleties I mentioned. Unusually we were too full for dessert. Coffee followed, probably the poorest aspect of the meal, a bit too bitter, but I won't let that spoil our experience. A great meal in an unusual setting. It is busiest at lunch on matinee days and during pretheatre, but evening dining was sedate, scrumptious and eminently superb. A big thumbs up then and thank you, Lasdun.

Be careful of your expectations. This is a restaurant that oozes a contemporary setting and cutting edge design, however, there are many problems. The very small menu had many items sold out at 8pm, the service was bordering on Fawlty Towers with the cheek and charm of our main waiter spoilt by the vicious glances from another. The pastry crust chicken pie is extreme at £50 but the sole (menu change) and lamb were more than satisfactory. Desserts were delicious but again sparse in choice. We were jokingly told this was their second night. Thats an explanation not an excuse. Dont open if you cant deliver. No proactive financial acknowledgement of this forthcoming (although told we would be looked after for the issues) and more than dirty looks when we refused to pay the service charge (although agreed and then the original bill presented for payment). I would be worried as the owners if the culture and values were not centered on customer satisfaction and professionalism, worryingly, this was how I felt.

Lasdun has the feel of a calm oasis, enhanced by the simplicity of it's menu. Service was aiming to be a polished as everything on the table. Fish soup, smoked haddock fishcake, and something dangerously chocolate was greatly appreciated by my companion. He has two favoured restaurant on the doorstep of the old Vic that Lasdun has now been added too. Terrine, pork collar, all perfectly executed if a little flat in flavour for me. A pretty and delicious rhubarb desert was well worth the calories. Truly surprised to find all of this care and perfection for under £40 per head, and worthy of note, there is no where in the area where you can eat this well at 17:00 in the afternoon. Go there.

I love this place! Hassan and Cecilia are great hosts, you are always greeted with a genuine and warm welcome, plenty of food options at reasonable prices. I just heard they will be giving up the business at the end of this week as the landlady is being difficult and will not renew their lease, she is turning the place into flats. All about greed! This will be a massive knock for the local community and I personally will miss coming here for my much, and of course Hassan and Cecilia will be sorely missed. Thanks for all the years!
