Just back from a long weekend stay at the Langtry Manor Hotel. The breakfasts live up to their reviews and are served in a very atmospheric dining room. First morning had the full English breakfast which included 3 rounds of delicious quality bacon, sausage, beans, fried egg, fried bread and the most delicious black pudding I have ever tasted. On the two other mornings I was too full to have the full English so went for the Eggs Florentine one morning and a simple boiled egg on our last day. All great. Staff very friendly. Will definitely return. On the negative side, they no longer serve dinner. It's a pity as, with the 4-Poster Bed rooms, and roll top baths, this is a very romantic hotel and it would have been nice to have been able to dress up for dinner.

I rang the morning of tea to postpone as I was unwell and we had a bereavement in the family. The man said I would lose the money or I could pick the food up in a bag! I sent my daughter and her friend to my 60th treat from my brother. Very unhelpful and no reply to email.

I was trying to book an afternoon tea as a non-guest for a treat for my family and after nearly two weeks of leaving messages and not hearing anything back I finally got hold of a person today and before I had even finished my explanation of why I was calling they put the phone down on me - I can't believe that this Hotel gets such good reviews with such poor customer focus.

Booked afternoon tea several weeks ahead as a birthday treat for a visitor who would only be staying with us for a few days. Had a call just 5 days beforehand to be told that they no longer do teas on Mondays or Tuesdays and therefore our booking was cancelled. We could however go on a different day which was no use as our visitor would no longer be with us. V surprised that we were not told at the time of booking; with only a few days notice it gave the impression that they were chaotic and disorganised, so we felt that perhaps this was a blessing in disguise as we went elsewhere and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

I have yet to attend an afternoon tea but after just calling to book my afternoon tea voucher, which I was given as a birthday present, I was quite disgusted about the customer service of the man on the phone. I was booking and confirming the dates and he was incredibly rude, patronising and quite clearly distracted. Not a good first impression. If you don't like speaking to people in a nice manner... it is probably best you stick to back of house. What a shame!

I have to say that this is a very difficult review because whilst there was nothing significantly wrong, it was not without it's moments. My wife and I had heard so many good things about Langtry Manor and were keen to try it. When a Group-on deal came up we jumped at the chance. When we arrived the reception was empty, we waited for some while before a member of staff arrived. The deal included a glass of Prosecco to start and so we expected to be shown to a Bar area, instead we were told to go into the dining room and choose somewhere to sit, a strange way to start. The waiting staff are all foreign but very attentive and pleasant. A young lady came to the table to take our order, before our prosecco had turned up, so we asked for a little more time. Prosecco arrived and we spent some time on the menu. The selection looked good and the food arriving at other tables also looked good. I suppose in a way the menu was not exactly what we might have expected following the things that we'd been told by others, but we were generally happy. We ordered food and awaited the inclusive bottle of wine. The wine was good for a house wine, maybe a tad warm for red, but then I've come to expect that from most restauarants now. I wish that restaurants would observe the recommended serving temperature for red wine, it's really much better when served at the right temperature. Sorry about the rant, and not aimed directly at Langtry Manor. Whilst on drinks, there were water glasses on the table but water wasn't offered at all. Our bad for not thinking to ask, I'm sure that they would've provided either bottled or a jug if we'd asked. I suppose we're just so used to being asked in a restaurant. Maybe a silly point and not a moan, more an observation. The starters arrived, my wife had the soup that came without a spoon, we didn't realise until the waitress had left the table and had to ask another waitress. A spoon arrived very quickly. Easy mistake to make but shouldn't happen really. Her soup was good and came with a bread roll; floating in the soup. We have come across croutons in soup of course, but a bread roll? She had to try to break the roll up with the spoon to eat it. I'd suggest, leave the roll on the plate, if the client wants to float their roll in the soup then they can do so themselves. I had Fish Cakes and they were excellent. Next course we both had the Siroin Steak, wife asked for medium rare and I had rare. It was a tasty steak, however mine was rarer at one end than the other. My wife's steak was far from medium rare, indeed we would've said that it was medium to well done. In fairness, when we mentioned this we were offered a replacement, but as my wife said, it was a tasty steak and the pause during the meal whilst they cooked another steak would have impacted enjoyment. Thank you to the restaurant for offering to replace the steak though, sadly many don't. The rest of the main was good, maybe a few more chips would've been nice, but that's more about our big appetites rather than any real deficiency in the meal. The deal was for 3 courses and the desserts were very good. Finally we had coffee and tea, which we didn't expect to be included in the Group On deal, but was. So back to my initial comment, we had a pleasant evening with generally good food. The waiting staff were attentive and we enjoyed ourselves. Would we recommend it or return, I would say not. It was just a strange welcome with issues that whilst not show stopping, were not what we would expect from an establishment of this type and didn't; for us, live up to the reputation. This was more like a pub experience in a restaurant.

This was a gifted experience bought for me through Groupon. I booked a week in advance over the phone and spoke with a very grumpy male receptionist. At points he was really rather rude to me and it left me a bit apprehensive as to what we should expect of the venue. Luckily we were very impressed and I quickly forgot about the gruff tone held by the reception staff member! The waiter sat us at our table and promptly brought out tea along with the food, presented on a delicate tiered cake stand. The presentation was very pretty and the food was lovely- very fresh and there was plenty of it!! The waiter checked on us again to make sure everything was up to standard and he brought us more tea. The room was beautiful, with the backdrop of a gorgeous, quintessential stained glass window. I would fully recommend this hotels’ restaurant.

We have stayed and eaten at this hotel before and loved it but it seems with new owners standards have plummeted. Being able to get a room and a table for dinner at short notice should have been a clue. On arrival we discovered that the room we had been allocated was up three flights of stairs in the loft. The man who booked us in couldn't be bothered to show the way, instead he shouted for the cleaner to come down and lead the way. With two heavy suitcases to get to the room, and no offer of assistance with our bags,we decided to ask for something on a lower floor. However we only managed this after standing at the desk in the front hall that was reception, apparently, the man who checked us in was nowhere to be seen and only reappeared after my husband yelled hello a few times. For a 20 pounds we were given a room up only one flight of stairs. A huge improvement, or not. The room was filthy. One of the glasses hadn't been washed and had what looked like red wine in the bottom, the stool was stained, the light fitting hasn't seen a duster for a very long time, the shower was full of mold and the throw on the bottom of the bed had some nasty stains. Despite this we went to dinner expecting the previous quality meal. As we were checking out we were told the owner has just changed from fancy dining to bistro meals which explains the menu but not the quality or the service. The waiter was missing for most of the evening. When we ordered wine from the wine list he brought out and poured some cheap plonk that wasn't what we ordered. He said the one on the wine list wasn't avaliable so he gave us an alternative Aussie shiraz, admitting he knew nothing about wine. The alternative was not the same quality, but was the same price, as what we ordered. We complained and he took it back and we ordered something else. The steak and ale pie was really salty and the sticky toffee pudding was cold. I refused to even try a cooked breakfast after noticing the outside of my husband's cereal bowl had dried weetabix stuck to it. He braved a full English and says it wasn't the worst breakfast he's ever had. Overall the staff were missing in action, the waiter appeared to not want to be there, and by the time the meal was over neither did I, and the room was just filthy. Not somewhere I plan to visit again.

Having had a couple of good previous experiences we rebooked. Lovely well situated building steeped in history. Wrap round garden frames the restaurant views. Service was prompt and friendly. The makeup of the sandwiches and cakes seems less grand than previously experienced but enjoyable all the same. We were given a voucher from friends for a present and chose Langtry Manor as it looked like it offered a good afternoon tea. We did explain when we booked that one of us had a gluten intolerance and that egg in a sandwich was also to be avoided. The sandwiches were gluten free and egg free but the range of gluten free cake provided was very disappointing and the total lack of a gluten free scone to have with jam and cream made the whole experience lack the special feel of a good afternoon tea. The other person's tea was adequate if not spectacular. There was an extremely limited choice of teas to drink. In fact, having had a number of traditional afternoon teas in a wide variety of locations this was undoubtedly the most limited we had experienced. The hotel is full of character, nice and clean and the area where the tea was served was full of charm. The waiter was very friendly and served us well.

We booked an afternoon 'Edwardian Tea' for four persons. Upon arrival we were greeted with "you booked but you didn't tell us what you wanted". All very embarrassing in front of our guests. We ordered one gluten free option in advance. Whilst there are problems cooking without this ingredient the scones that were served up were like shortbread. Far below the standard we have enjoyed in the past. Poor quality lightweight paper napery was, we felt, cutting a corner too far. To be fair, the standard tea was good and the scones warm. The waiter did not offer a refill of the tea and we departed feeling, somewhat, underwhelmed. The surroundings are beautiful but a stroll in the garden revealed the property to be pretty run-down with blocked gutterings and peeling paint.

We booked weeks in advance and instructed that 2 of our party were gluten-free, when we arrived they advised that they "only do gluten free options for parties that have booked" (although we had) and therefore had limited options for 2 of our party. They also ran out of gluten free bread so we had a little wait for them to collect some more from the shops. They did give us a discount on the tea which was good of them. Other than that it was very nice, beautiful building and interior.

My Father booked here for his 80th Birthday celebrations for 18 elderly people. On checking with the receptionist regarding wheelchair accessibility we were told this was fine as my Husband is in a wheelchair. She stated that their disabled toilet was upstairs but they had no lift! They class themselves as being wheelchair accessible but this just means you can get in through the front door but if you need the toilet there is a major problem. Another one of the guests was in a wheelchair but thankfully she did not require the bathroom as if she had there is no way she could have used the downstairs cloakroom as the door was only about 2.3" wide!! As a result my Husband was unable to go to the afternoon party and my Father consequently cancelled the table he had also booked for the Saturday evening for a family celebration as you cannot be expected to go to a Restaurant and not have access to a disabled toilet - my Husband would not be able to get upstairs as he only has one leg! Now onto the afternoon tea - this was pleasant enough all be it that I felt the food was a little rushed with the scones and fancies coming out to the table only about 10 minutes after the sandwiches. There was a good supply of tea and coffee however. And now to the Birthday Cake which my Father had ordered specially. This was a 2 tier Victorian Sponge but unfortunately it tasted as if it had been cooked in the Victorian Era!! Very stodgy and dry and not worth the £40.00 he paid. We should have gone to Sainsbury and brought a £10.00 birthday cake which was what we then did for the Family Celebration we had on Saturday night at another venue which had very good disabled access and facilities. So just be aware if you are in a wheelchair and are not mobile enough to get upstairs, which is probable, avoid this restaurant.

A warning to anyone thinking of eating here, IT WAS DISGUSTING.The starters looked as though they had been sitting in the fridge for at least 24 hours ,were tiny and tasteless but considering what came next were at least edible. The main courses arrived cold and were returned only to be brought back looking as if they had been scraped onto another plate and microwaved. My turkey Christmas lunch was covered in what closely resembled black tar ( congealed gravy ) and tasted foul.Needless to say this wasn't eaten and my husband also didn't eat his lamb as he said it was foul.We held out some hope for puddings but this also wasn't eaten. The Xmas pudding tasted as if it had neat brandy poured over it and the chocolate fondant tasted unbaked so these also weren't eaten. The manager then tried to charge us £85.00 per head for food we hadn't eaten and threatened to take us to court if we didn't pay.We did pay for all our drinks even allowing £10.00 per glass for the cheap champagne that was suppose to be included in the meal and for the starters that we had eaten so the entire awful experience still cost us £98.00. We would have had a better meal at a pub for a fraction of the price. If you like good food DON'T EVER THINK OF EATING HERE.

My family booked the Langtry Manor Hotel and Restaurant for my Mum's Fathers Wake. The hotel itself is lovely, quaint and very clean and we were warmly welcomed on our arrival. It is a small boutique hotel with lots of character, offering a very pleasant bar and sofa area before heading through to the room we had booked for the wake itself. We had popped into the hotel the day before the funeral to ask if they would make room for a display of lovely pictures we had picked out of my Grandad and the family for the guests to see.We had specified a small room which would comfortably fit 50 people on four round tables of 10. We wanted to make sure the guests weren't lost in a large room. This was perfect, the manager and his staff had displayed our picture boards with lots of room surrounding them for guests to see. The food was great and catered to people younger and older. I myself have Coeliac Disease and they had absolutely no problem catering for my needs. The staff there were fantastic. The member who stood out in particular was Callum. He was friendly, approachable and attentive to our needs. As we left, we thanked the manager and his team for their help and understanding during this difficult time. The day was perfect and I would highly recommend this venue for future events.

The hotel bar did not have beer on tap and every time you ordered wine or prosecco they had to go off to get a bottle from another storeroom. The room was laid out for 50People and was rather cramped. When the food arrived it wasn't worth the wait. The fries were dry, the chicken skewers pink, spring rolls over cooked and all in all not appealing or tasty. The same can be said about the puddings, not appetising and looking like they had seen better days. The one member of staff that was working was doing a good job particularly as he was the only one around to serve and help us.Not somewhere I would recommend based on this experience

First time we have been here and thought we would treat ourselves to Afternoon Tea. We were greeted by a very friendly young lady at the desk and were shown into a Lounge area with a Bar. 4 tables were laid up for tea, all with nice white starched Tablecloths but Paper Napkins, yuk!! Tables looked very bare and perhaps could have done with just a small flower in the middle to brighten it up. Crockery very clean but very cheap looking, typical hotel crockery, shame, why not invest in nice china just for the Afternoon teas. We were bought a pot of Tea, my Husband asked for Assam but they only had normal tea which was like dish water and fruit teas. We expected a 3 tier Plate system for the Food but were just brought out a long plate with Sandwiches, which there were 3 types, they were very fresh but could have been made nicer to look at. We ate these and then sat and waited and waited then eventually a 2 tier plate was brought out with hot scones which were lovely and Jam, clotted cream, a Lemon Posset for my Husband and a small trifle for me, there were small fancy cakes which were very nice. The Afternoon Tea was on the whole very good and fresh but it just lacked the traditional tea look. One thing which annoyed us was the room had the main thoroughfare for everyone in the hotel to walk through, a bit noisy and we felt a bit uncomfortable sat there with everyone watching us eat our tea. Not sure we would go there again but the hotel on the whole was quite Grand, the part we could see anyway, just a little jaded.

Escorted to our table in what can only be described as a beautiful dining rooms from times past..but beautiful to the eye and a QWow to behold..Picutres of Lilley and her Prince looked down upon the diners to remind us of how Langtry's was born... Both beautiful portraitsthat captured the moment of their time and status..Warm bread roles (delicious) were offered and a variety of flavours where offered... again delicious .. Water was offered with ice.. and our porder taken.. The main meals were simply delicious .. 5 star.. and more than an adequate size for our appetites. The choices of both mains and deserts whilst limited offered reasonable choice.. And both the fish and Rissoto were excellent.. simply superb !Desserts were offered and we accepted.. again choice was limited but the desserts were both mouth watering , tasty and delicious..In summary,,, Wonderful staff, attentive yet discreet.. food both quality and taste outstanding..Surroundings were a real experience to behold.. with classical music to sooth the foodies brow,,,The staff .. 5 stars and more..

We had booked an Afternoon tea and arrived at the appointed time. The Receptionist was on the phone and totally ignored us. We wondered arround but there was no one else about. Finally the receptionist came off the phone - no apology and booked us in. We were told to go to the lounge where our table was laid up. There was another table for 4 next door but no one at the table. Finally the waiter arrived and indicated that we had a table in the the main restaurant. He did not show us were it was so again after looking round with no one else in the restaurant found a table which had cups and plates laid up.We were asked if we wished tea or coffee and the tea duly arrived, followed by the sandwiches and cakes. I was expecting the tea to be served in china cups but the cups were very thick pottery very uninspiring. The napkins were thin paper type not what you expect from this high class hotel. The scones, jam and cream were very good but the other cakes appeared to be not fresh and shop bought. The waiter never appeared again to ask if we wished any more tea as was promised when it was first brought to the table.Someone on the only other table being used went off to find the waiter and a little later he appeared but did not come to our table and we had to request further service. Finally we got up to leave no one about and that was that - truly a disappointing experience.

We purchased a voucher from Groupon and visited here midweek for the afternoon tea. Lovely finger sandwiches (salmon, egg mayo, ham, cheese & pickle, brie & cranberry, chicken mayo) which were plentiful. The cakes were really lovely too but the highlight was a freshly baked scones (plain and fruited ones available) which were still warm on arrival to our table. The clotted cream was just gorgeous and we were so full we had to bring a couple of the little cakes home with us. The restaurant was immaculate, the gentle music just perfect and all round a great afternoon. The highlight really was the service from the staff which was friendly, welcoming and attentive. The server for the cream day was lovely and he was always checking if we needed more tea or coffee (we had two pots each at no extra cost). Best cream tea in Bournemouth! We will be going back and taking people with us!

Cannot express how disappointed I was. Took my mum for afternoon tea. Awful experience. Sandwiches were tasteless, scones were small, apart from that we had a few cakes cut into fairly small pieces. No macaroons, although our neighbouring table had macaroons and eclairs. Tables very close together, we almost sat on each other's lap. No atmosphere at all. Terribly unimpressed.

We booked afternoon tea for two expecting a lovely Edwardian tea in this lovely restaurant. Instead we were given a table in the bar area outside of the main restaurant. 4 tables were there with very little space between each one. To make matters even worse right behind my chair were 4 children being occupied whilst family members were at a function. Conversation was impossible and the ambience was zero This was for a special occasion for my husbands birthday so even more disapointing for him. We have a family wedding planned for next year and wanted to assess Lilly Langtry with a view to holding the wedding reception there, obviously after being treated as a second class citizen for Afternoon Tea this venue is now firmly off the list to be ever visited again. We were not asked if we would like to order a glass of champagne with our tea,,surprised we were not given a choice of tea from a printed selection and last but by no means least, Bone china cups should be served with tea not thick white pottery type ones.

The Edwardian Afternoon Tea was supposed to be a real treat for our party of 5 who all have birthdays around this time. The finger sandwiches, scones & lemon posset were lovely but the other cakes were a bit dry & looked shop bought. What really let the place down was the temperature of the room - we were freezing cold! I wouldn't recommend going in the winter months as the rooms do have high ceilings & the heating just isn't adequate on a cold day. It needs a roaring fire in the fireplace, not a tiny electric heater that wasn't even switched on when we arrived!

I took my partner to Langtry Manor for her birthday as we had been before 6 years ago and enjoyed a stunning meal. How things have changed. The food was what you would typically find in the average pub and was certainly nothing special, very poor value for money. It also did not help that the heating was not working in an old building on a cold night. unfortunately Langtry Manor did not live up to the expectations we had from our previous visit, my partner's prawn cocktail and chicken supreme were straight from the 1970s and my asparagus starter (1 spear, Parma ham and a poached egg) and sea bass main were very plain and quite tasteless. With so many good places to eat exciting food without spending a fortune in the area this was a major disappointment. Service was pleasant from the 2 staff that appeared to be running everything. Needless to say there will not be a third visit.

Myself and a friend went yesterday for an afternoon tea which was bought as a gift by my two daughters. When I booked I made the Hotel aware that I had a strawberry allergy, but I was fine with any other berries. When we arrived we were served scones as part of the afternoon tea only to be told that the only jam they had was strawberry, and instead offered me a pot of marmalade as a substitute! Who on earth has scones with marmalade? I was very disappointed that they hadn't organised an alternative jam to strawberry - I would have eaten any other type of jam! After being reassured that everything served was free of strawberries, I then had a pot of "berry" compote covered with cream which when questioned, could not be guaranteed of being free of strawberries. This is just dangerous and I could have ended up in hospital. This was supposed to have been a treat out with my best friend paid for by my 2 young daughters and instead turned into a disappointing and frustrating visit. We weren't even blown away by the rest of the food - definitely would not visit again I am sorry to say. Get your act together about allergies before you hurt or kill someone!

We had booked for dinner, having been several times before. When we arrived, we were greeted with ‘Good Afternoon’ - it was 6:45pm!No-one took our coats and we were just pointed towards the lounge. After a while, we were asked if anyone was seeing to us, which they weren’t.Eventually, a waitress took our drinks order and gave us the menus. She said the ‘Catch of the Day’ was salmon.Three of us ordered this, to then be told by the waitress that there was only ONE portion! Bear in mind this was 7p.m., the restaurant only starts serving at this time, and there were no other diners! What restaurant only buys one piece of fish?We asked to see the manager but had to wait; there was no sense of urgency! We said we were leaving but she tried to persuade us to stay, saying they were going to the fishmonger to buy more salmon. To our knowledge, the only place open at that time of day was Asda! The journey would have taken at least ½ hour, then there would be the cooking time, so we would have been waiting at least an hour to eat, always assuming they actually had salmon! We did leave, and will not be returning! VERY disappointed, having previously enjoyed dining there.

I highly recommend the afternoon tea at Langtry Manor. 4 generations of us met there for tea. The food was of a really high standard and the room we ate it in was lovely. There was a very good plentiful selection of sandwiches and the cakes and lemon posset were delicious. For both the quantity and quality of the food, the price of £14.50 was extremely good. The only improvement I could suggest is increase the price slightly, but then offer a box to bring leftover cakes home, (as we have had at some other hotels), as we had quite a few cakes and sandwiches left.We chose this hotel, as it has flat access from the car-park and to the ladies' toilet, which was needed for my 96 year old grandmother (the gentlemen's is on the 1st floor though). Many of the Bournemouth hotels seemed to have steps
