Lancers in Doncaster

Really loved this small family restaurant. Food was delicious and a broad variety of dishes available. Great service from the young staff who waited our table.

I wish I’d read these reviews before booking. I booked this restaurant for myself and 6 friends for a Christmas get together, on the recommendation of a friend. We usually visit Dower house over the road, but we’re happy to get in here at relatively short notice. We arrived and staff were attentive enough, general quality of food was ok. The prices were not competitive with other Indians in the area and the quality didn’t warrant the price paid. £7.50 for a pint of Cobra and a minimum of £16.50 for a curry (vegetarian options cheaper), this is before you factor in rice/naans. My main gripe was the quality of my dish. I asked for a recommendation from the waiter who was more than happy to offer one. I specified spicy but not “blow your head off spicy”, Blow your head off” is exactly what I got. I ate one of the chilli’s in the dish and it was extremely hot. I finished the rest of my beer (£7.50 a pint remember), and had to visit the bar for a large water. I told the bar man and he said it must be one of those little green chilli’s, sometimes they’re mild and other times they’re very hot. When the waiter asked at the end of the meal if everything was ok, I explained about my dish (90% of it still in the bowl), he told me the green chilli’s were for garnish only. After that mouthful I ate very little, there was no offer to take anything off the bill. Our bill came to approximately £50/head (£15 of this was 2 beers each). I felt responsible that I’d brought my friends and probably let them down with my choice. Cheaper and better options nearby.

Average food. Grossly overpriced. Staff were friendly but food was oily and ridiculously overpriced for what was served.

Had a chicken Ceylon in there last night, absolutely delicious, been eating currys for 50 years, last night's meal is in my top 5 of all time. Fantastic.

Very disappointing. All 6 meals were tasteless from pickle tray to mains. Chicken was dry. Very overpriced and staff not very friendly. Worse Indian we've had. Won't be returning

Ok, so alittle tricky with this one. Food was good, not poor but not great for what you pay. Overall the prices are very expensive. Easily a few pound per dish extra. Drinks were very overpriced. Seating area feels cramped, no big Indian appeal to the place. Chilly, you kinda expect to have a warm comfy feeling to an Indian Restaurant, have a nice smell of Indian food flooding the place... None of that unfortunately. Would I visit again? Maybe.. but the prices would need to be lowered. Expect to easily have over a £100+ bill for the basics of meals and drinks for 4 people. Wheelchair accessible... 100% NOT. As soon as you enter, steps! Toilets are up a flight of stairs, very difficult with anyone that may struggle with steps.

Absolutely disgusting! Staters came and were lukewarm. Mains and sides came and were freezing! Staff couldn’t care less! The only good we tasted that was of any reasonable taste was the popadoms! Staff weren’t seemed to be bothered at the fact the mains and sides were freezing cold! Save your money and go somewhere else!

Always go here and it’s located in a beautiful part of Bawtry, staff are always so attentive and certainly look after you. The food is some of the best Indian food I have eaten. They go out of there way to make sure you have a brilliant meal and even takeaway any you can’t fit in! Can’t recommend this place enough!

I've had takeaways from Lancers before and enjoyed them, but was looking forward to having a meal at the restaurant. I had friends staying who took me for a meal there and it was, as expected, excellent. My friends were from West Sussex, so had not been here before, and they also really enjoyed their meal. I'm a creature of habit, so had a dish that I often have, and it was absolutely delicious. I also loved their onion bhajis which were lovely. The service was good and I'll definitely be back.

Food very good service amazing the young girl is so very pleasant and friendly a pleasure to eat here if its only for the service 10 out of 10 to staff she made our night will visit again soon

We visited Lancers for our wedding anniversary and it was as good as we remembered. We use to visit regularly in years gone by. Owners son serving us was pleasant. He wasn’t born when we first started going! Owner came from kitchen to greet us too. Great service, outstanding food. Can’t wait to return.

Oops forget to take photos it was so nice. We chose chicken passandra, butter chicken, keema nan, mushroom pilau rice and egg and mushroom basmati rice. Had poppadoms and pickle tray for starter. It was lovely. Even had some leftovers to take home there was so much food. Would recommend.

Husband ordered a take-a-way ( Birthday treat) had many many meals from Lancers always hit and miss. Tonight straight in the bin, both meals taste of plastic. Husband had a Lamb Balti the meat he could not even bite into. I had a Chicken Korma was awful no taste at all . Onion Bahji are normally the best in Doncaster tonight again no taste in them. Will definitely be the very last time we come here. Do not know wether its changed owners but something is so wrong the food was not edible . Not cheap either to put straight in the bin .

I had a takeaway with my family for my birthday - the second one I'd had from Lancers. Both were absolutely delicious. Most importantly, unlike at the Dower House a few months ago, they had no problems ensuring that the pepper allergy suffered by half of us was catered for. Another family member's dairy allergy was also catered for. The chicken tikka masala was absolutely delicious, one of the best I've had - and I have been to many Indian restaurants all over the country. I'm now looking forward to trying the actual restaurant when I get the chance. Highly recommended!

We had a takeaway from here. All I can say is the food rating answers all my questions I have about this establishment I will always check the ratings in future prior to eating anywhere. An awful experience. Bawtry deserves better!

went for the first time last night to celebrate my birthday. The decor is charming and bright but not in your face like a lot of Indian restaurants can be. The menu was very extensive , so we had plenty of choice. The service was pleasant and efficient. The food was top class and with good helpings.

I would not recommend. The food rating from October 2021 tells the whole story.

You get fairly decent portion sizes for the price but the meat was fairly dry and quite tough, sorted of tasted like it had been microwaved or cooked before and just warmed up in the sauce.

Decide to try this restaurant as had been very disappointed with the Dower House. The meal we had was excellent and the service welcoming and friendly. We will definitely be back there soon.

The meal starters were ok but the main courses were poor and not very hot regarding the meals actual temperature . Not really impressed overall with my visit, the service was ok but the meals were just about standard. The restaurant is in need of central heating as the portable heaters do not set a good standard. The toilets need to be refurbished to a higher standard considering it’s an eating establishment.

Flavours are great. I ordered a hot dish and got a mild curry, nice flavours but also chicken (was meant to be a lamb dish). Onion bhajis were good if slightly different. Decent Cobra beer on draft. Overall just a 4

Paid over the price mediocre food and ended up sitting next to two lots of drunken tables. I wouldn't mind but this was 7pm and I was with family. They moved us to three different tables, obviously more concerned about making quick cash that satisfying a customer over rude foul mouthed old aged pensioners. I won't go again.

Still the best Indian restaurant in Bawtry. It’s a very traditional Indian restaurant so don’t expect smoked glass and granite surfaces, but if you want a very nice meal, I’ve cold beer and a decent price, look no further. Staff always on hand to adapt some dishes to taste.

Absolutely outstanding food. Lancers is my favourite all-time curry house. While we can't go in and eat due to covid restrictions, at least they are still open for takeaway. Be sure to try the hot meat puri starter (not for the faint-hearted!) and the chicken aromatic special main - fantastic! 100% recommended and a great bunch of guys too.

Really tasty food, great service and the guys kindly double checked all ingredients for us as we've advised we're vegan - would definitely recommend and we'll be back again!

Only eaten in here a handful of times, new renovations look lovely, me and my partney get take out from here every week and let me tell you we love a take out and ive eaten a lot of curry in a lot of places and this place is head and shoulders above the rest. I drave past literally 10 other indian take aways and 12 miles to eat here.

Came for food was welcomed buy happy, understanding and very friendly staff. The food was perfect the drinks came quick and we all enjoyed our experience. I would 100% recommend this place for a quiet meal or a party booking as they accommodate all eventuality.

I have been to this restaurant a number of times in its 20 years existence and I have to say as an overall experience this was the worst. The starters were really good nothing to complain about but the main courses were just bizarre. My wife had a Chicken Pathia which she sent back as it had no heat or flavour to it and was sweet ? When it eventually came back my wife decided to have it bagged to take home and it still lurks in the fridge as I write this review. I had the North Indian Garlic which was fine, until about 0200 this morning when it started....I haven't been this ill from eating a curry in a very long time. Not the best experience. I will not be going back..... EVER!!!!!!

After a night out in Bawtry we originally tried to get a table at the Dower House but were told they were about to close. We walked across the road to Lancers who were also about to close but they seated us anyway. The staff could not have been more helpful and the food was excellent. Have just started using this restaurant after moving to Bawtry and have to say it's absolutely amazing. on arrival we were given the tabel we wanted at the front of the restaurant so we could look out through the window and we were served drinks immediately didn't have to wait at all fast service placed our order and popadoms arrived in minutes. staff were attentive and kept filling our glasses always smiling and even asked if we wanted our main course now or if we wanted a break.... i have never been asked that! soft music played in the background.

What a night had an absolutely fantastic meal tonight with my team here. Was recommended by a friend and it's brilliant food was incredible would recommend this place due to the outstanding service and incredible food. The staff are amazing made it that extra bit special by being so polite and helpful, not rushing us, and delivering an all round great experience! Visited bawtry earlier this evening with my partner, we visit and eat at many different restaurant's regularly. This is the best Indian food we have ever eaten. Service from the staff was fantastic all very polite, the food was outstanding fresh and full of flavour. 5 star rating from us both definitely coming back.

The last time I visited this restaurant was in 2007.Ok the reason I haven’t visited again,until a few days ago was,for the simple reason,I don’t except staff from this establishment to pop into the local COOP and buy up all the Sharwoods cook in sauces!!I myself witnessed this,and was dumbfounded!

The whole experience from entering to a warm welcome with smiles was exceptional the food was beautifully cooked and the service was amazing. Will defiantly be returning!

We went to lancers with another couple. We booked the night before and Rahman had no trouble fitting us in at such short notice even though when we arrived the restaurant was busy. The text message confirmation was a nice touch.

Won’t win any great culinary awards and wish it didn’t use tinned mushrooms... but lovely clean curry house, well cooked meals with fabulous staff ... whether eating in or takeaways, great food, reasonably priced.

We arrived here tonight 4th November with a friend telling her how excellent this restaurant is. We arrived at 6.45pm not many people in, we were shown to our table down at the bottom of the restaurant. We usually are at the top near the bar. The LED lights in the ceiling were too bright, very cold in the restaurant couldn’t get warm all through the evening. Asked the waiter why so cold, he pointed to the air con in the ceiling that was on. He didn’t switch it off for us. Then all of a sudden the waiter who was serving us, at the top of his voice started shouting out the orders down to the kitchen. Not impressed our guest also wasn’t impressed. Then I know this can’t be helped but six young customers sat near to us, shouted all through their meal and ate like pigs. You should have seen the tablecover after they left. Not a good experience tonight. Food ok. Sorry after over 20 years of coming into Lancers we won’t be back.

We really enjoy the quality food at Lancers. There is an extensive range of dishes on the menu - from familiar to much less familiar. The staff are always friendly and the food is prepared on time. It is our default restaurant for Indian takeaway.

The psanda with king prawns is the best i've ever had, could even be my favourite meal. A very good indian though all I have is this psanda, been there at least a dozen times. Very cool waiters and owner Rahman is very nice welcoming everyone who comes in.

Whilst I have reviewed previously I feel that I need to do it once again. Having visited yesterday evening with family and trying a new dish I will say from my own opinion that this is the best Indian I have ever had. I have moved up and down the country and tried many Indian restaurants but Lancers Bawtry wins hands down. I am never disappointed with the food or the great service

We tried a meal from here last night, the madras was really nice , the chicken Bhuna wasn’t nice , the rice was nice, the tarka dall was lovely one staff member wasn’t very warm or friendly, the other man was , hopefully the non friendly one isn’t the chef

Here for a birthday party. We were a large party. We had lots of lovely dishes, all served hot, all served together. Fabulous food, great service and nothing was too much trouble to the lovely staff. Consistently good.

first visit to lancers, it was cold inside I have to say it was ok, BUT. yes there's always a but, onion bhajis good, meat samosa good but very small, raita was tasteless (try natural yohgurt and mint sauce) home made is best, the mains were good, garlic naan was a tortilla wrap, he said the tandoor was not working, so how did we get tikka jalfrazi and tikka karai,and another customer get a naan bread after us, £8,30 for 1 half Cobra, 2 small coke's, the coke was full of ice both times, turnpike charge £5.05p, 2 tins of 50p coke would have been better quality bar a distance way below the £5,20 you charge, at £47 it's by far the most I have paid, zara's was £44 with an extra half beer, Ruchi's takeaway £20 (no beer) Neela's £36 sadly closed now, but we never got the 20% discount you advertise in the Eastside mag. until I ask at the till and got £7 off not the £9,48 I should have got, a voucher was in the last edition but you also have an advert in this latest edition and no voucher but still say 20% off until Sunday 11th,if you have a deal on its for every one and not just for the postcode lottery of the few, and no I don't live local, but I still get the mag, we do like to eat out but sadly won't be back

We called late on a Saturday evening, to book in a table for 5. Lancers was very accommodating, given the late notice and our table was ready when we arrived. The pickle tray was fantastic! there’s a lovely jam type dip which was super nice. Service was a little bit slow, we didn’t get our mains until an hour and 15 after we’d sat down (and we didn’t have any starters!) We found the staff slightly strange and a little bit aggressive, but nice enough. I had the chicken kurma, the sauce was lovely but the chicken was a little bit dry. My partner has the lamb rogan josh, which was delicious!

Frequent this restaurant regularly so went in on a Sunday night to take advantage of the 20% off deal. The food was good although the restaurant itself was freezing. One couple even sat with their coats on! When the bill arrived they hadn't deducted the 20% and when we questioned why we're told 'if you don't have a voucher you don't get the discount '. Doesn't say that on the banner outside? A pile of vouchers behind the bar but no, if you haven't got one on you you don't get the discount!! Shocking service for regular customers!

The Restaurant was plesent enough and the staff were very welcoming, The food was middle of the road, so we will not be going back, there are lots of other Indian Restaurants that better.

Not the busiest night of the week but enough people to give a good atmosphere. Good swift service with the food coming very quickly after being ordered. The pickle tray accompanying the popadoms were disappointing. They were a bit bland and a runny texture.

Had the pleasure of experience the new menu which had lots of the old favourites plus some fabulous new dishes portions are good size the decoration is lovely only negative is the constant buzzing of a bell as food is ready it was really intrusive and we don't remember it being present on previous visits

This is my Favourite Indian restaurant in the area.The food is top class and plentiful and the staff are friendly and attentive.I can't understand the bad reviews on here, I am a hobby Curry cook and have eaten Indian food all over the world. Lancers is easily in my top 20 in the UK.

We began our meal with poppadoms and a pickle tray. The mango chutney was a bit runny and the raita lacked flavour but the other pickles were tasty.We then had huge mixed kebabs which were practically overflowing on the plate. It consisted of the largest onion bhaji I've ever seen which was crisp and tasty, a flavoursome lamb kebab and a vegetable pakora. We next enjoyed a delicious Lancers special, mushroom rice and an excellent keema naan.The orange slices at the end served along with the hot towels was a nice way to finish a very good Indian meal.
